Overview

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-1858 receiver wiring harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna turn-on
  • dimmer
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Very easy to use.

Solid built harness. I have purchased a couple with loose pins and also really short wires. This worked great for my installation. Saves a lot of time as usual, I love these harnesses. I remember the days of searching and testing wires just to install a new head unit. Anyone who has really appreciate a vehicle specific wiring harness! I have butt crimped and also soldered these harnesses before. While most of the crimped ones were okay I have had some fail. I have never had a soldered one let me down. It's the only way to go for a trouble free installation.

Pros: Great quality

connector was perfect fit. heavy 20awg. leads.

Pros: Exact fit connector. matched my OEM stereo connector breakout.

Cons: It is referred to as a GM-21 (position) connector. However it only comes with 16 leads and does not include the 5 additional pins to create leads in the available pin positions. I still had to splice in my OEM side of my harness in 3 places specifically related pin positions on this connector.

Yes this is just a wire harness adapter - so not a high value product. But now I have a pro install that works great. The fact that the installation extras including instructions are included make Crutchfield special. You can find this stuff cheaper, but it sure is nice to have it included in your order. Crutchfield install extras, instructions and customer support are worth a premium

Pros: Pro install that works great

Cons: none

2001 Chevrolet Tahoe
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall a very good harness. Colors matched the factory harness which made for a quick and easy install. After install the Sony head unit seemed to be working as it should, however, there was no sound coming from any speaker. Several online videos and forums later I identified that the pink wire on the unused factory harness needed power. This required splicing a second wire onto the blue remote power wire from the head unit, cutting the pink wire from the factory harness, and wiring themy together. I expected a 'plug and play' situation and had to do additional wiring. Basically, from what I read, the factory amp needs power in order for the speakers to produce sound.

Pros: Came free with head unit, colors matched the factory harness

Cons: Additional wiring required

This harness was a snap to connect to my receiver's harness and the oem harness. The ends of the wires are prespliced, so it speeds up the process to connect the wires to the receiver's harness. Definitely a must, so that you're not strugling with cutting the wires from thr oem harness.

Pros: Prespliced wires. Plug n play.

A must-have item on my list. Makes hooking up non-factory radios a snap compared to the days of cutting out the old harness & trying to make it up in the confined space of the dashboard. Download the free the wiring diagram & it goes together in a pinch.

Pros: Mates after-market radios to factory harnesses.

Cons: Pending on how much room the radio pocket has the extra wiring can be tricky to get crammed back in there.

94" Chevy K1500 Easy installation.... other than having to connect the wires it was pretty much a plug n play.... I sat at my kitchen table and connected the wiring harness and stereo harness together. Took it out and plug it into the truck harness and then plug it into the back of the stereo... It was that easy... The wire harness color code and what it went to was on the Metra 70-1858 Receiver Wiring Harness bag and I just used the stereo book to match up the wires. Never had to download the instructions from Crutchfield which I did not know about until after I was done.

I bought a new wire striper and did not need for this it was so simple to use. I wish they told you what wires you did not need for your vehicle. The orange and the 2 blue wires had me scratching my head and I called Crutchfield tech and they helped me through my dilemma.

Pros: very easy to use

Cons: does not tell you what wires are not going to be used.

Pros: Easy to match up after market radio and harness wiring. Fits OEM connector exactly.

Cons: Hooking up wiring from new radio to harness would be difficult for someone who's color blind. I'm not, so it wasn't an issue.

Get your wiring done in the AC at the workbench (or kitchen counter, or TV chair, or ...) rather than in the heat, contorting yourself to work under the dash. Made the most maddening part of the install (faulty factory radio to an Alpine) much simpler. First time I've used in adapter in maybe a half-dozen radio swaps. Now a must. Love it!

Blue and blue/white wires reversed

Written by: Razor from Philadelphia, PA on June 30, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product, except the blue and blue/white wires are reversed - not sure if that's the harness manufacturer or Alpine's error. The only output to the speakers was from the tuner. After racking my brain, I called Alpine and immediately the rep said "swap the blue and Blue/white wires and that will fix your problem." He was right, but there was no documentation included with the harness or stereo. If I hadn't called Alpine, who knows how long I would have continued to troubleshoot - especially since everything had been connected properly according to color codes!

Pros: Except for reversed wires, it's a good harness.

Cons: NO documentation was included with the harness or stereo to let you know that the blue and blue/white wires were reversed during the manufacturing process.
