Metra 70-5004C Receiver Wire Harness

For select 1988-97 vehicles

  • Metra 70-5004C Receiver Wire Harness

    Front

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors that you'll use to attach the Crutchfield-supplied harness to your factory harness.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

Note: This includes a "jumper" bypass harness that will route your signal around your factory amplifier. You will need to access your factory amp in order to make the bypass harness connections.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required and sold separately.

A bit of frustration, but overall a great kit!

Written By Tim, Kearney, Husker Nation on Thursday, August 01, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The title says it all.
Pros:
Wiring instructions are very thorough, accurate and helpful. Amplifier bypass harness worked as advertised. Power harness works very well.
Cons:
Speaker harness plug is very touchy and pin push back occurs if not very, very careful and lucky. IMO, the socket to plug fit is too tight. I would recommend any installation to include some dielectric grease on both the pins and sockets. After 5 or 6 attempts, I was successful in being able to seat the plug and socket without pin movement to allow all 4 speakers to function.

1994 Mark VIII JBL Radio

Written By Big_R, Allen, TX on Friday, April 19, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The harness connecting the radio to the car's radio wiring worked well. The harness that was supposed to bypass the amplifier did not work. I specified my vehicle has the JBL system. The amp bypass harness was way off from what was needed. What it needed was to split the from-radio into 2 from-amp connections - 1 for the 4 larger speakers and 1 for the JBL exclusive tweeters.
Pros:
The radio harness works well. The included documentation was good for a non-JBL car.
Cons:
If you have the JBL system, there is not a pre-existing harness to bypass the amp. Either run new wires or spend a couple hours in the trunck splicing and soldering after Google provides the wiring information.

Mates up goof with Ford harness

Written By whipray, florida on Tuesday, December 11, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Stereo harness mated up good. Square speaker harness was a bit difficult. When it finally clicked, the two right rear wires backed out of the fitting. I used needle nose pliers to get them back in and locked up with the female fitting. Tucked it in nicely and out of the way.
Pros:
Easy to wire up Ford reciever harness and wires.
Cons:
Speaker fittings didn't mate up properly. Had to push two wires (right rear +/- ) back in the rear of the fitting after it clicked together.

Makes it easier

Written By Norm, San Jose, CA on Saturday, September 01, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This wiring harness makes installation a lot easier. In my boneheaded eagerness to remove the old connectors, I cut some of the wires. I had to solder and shrink-tube them back. This took a lot of extra time. I will leave the factory amp in place, which I believe gives the stereo some extra power.
Pros:
Makes installation a lot easier

I got my new car stereo installed and one of the speakers didn't work. After taking everything completely apart, I found the problem was a backed-out terminal in the Crutchfield jumper harness.

Power & Amp by-pass..Great, Speaker adapter is terrible!

Written By JT, Gatlinburg, TN on Monday, June 20, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently changed out the stock radio in a '94 Ford Explorer and used this harness collection to make the necessary connections. The amp by-pass cable worked perfectly, and the connector for power & accessory controls snapped into the Ford harness with ease. The speaker connector, however, was a 45 minute frustrating curse fest. The problem is weak and poor design of the the eight pin connector. The slightest pressure against the pin(s) sends the pin, with wire connected, straight out the back of the plug. The eight pins in the Crutchfield connector appeared to be in perfect alignment but time and time again 2 or more of the pins would not enter the Ford connector, and those pins would exit the back of the connector while the others would seat. The Ford connector was is perfect condition with no apparent blockages. I eventually got all pins to sync, but now they are so weak in the plastic housing, I have had to use electrical tape to keep them from falling out. Not the seamless professional installation that I anticipated. I will probably have to end up cutting and splicing directly into the Ford speaker harness because I am getting occassional distortion from one of the speakers already.

Metra 70-5004C Receiver Wire Harness

Written By leiisme, Denton, TX on Friday, August 13, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The amplifier bypass was great. The instructions were clear. The speaker and receiver adaptors should have been a simple matter. The instructions of these are not clear and left a lot to be desired. The instructions did not address the two additional wiring harnesses from the factory radio. That created another problem because two of the factory wiring harnesses are interchangeable.

Colorblind wiring

If you are not colorblind, this harness collection is outstanding. If you're colorblind, GOOD LUCK! How about some RF- and RF+ type tab labels on all the wiring?? 67% of the male population is colorblind.

Ford Wiring Harness and connectors

Written By Mark, Somerset, NJ on Saturday, March 15, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We have 2 1992 Lincoln Town Cars in our family. Both still had the original AM FM Cassette players in them. I switched to MP3. The 2 harnesses and instructions made the job easy. I was able to bypass the trunk amp in 60 seconds, and installed my stereo in 5 minutes. Crutchfields harness helped save me hours of time by not rerouting new wires from the doors and rear deck to the stereo. I was able to use all of the OEM Ford wiring. Way to go Crutchfields!! Their customer service adviser (Greg) was fantastic. I highly recommend this kit. Mark B. Somerset, NJ

i have a 92' lincoln. i put the amp bypass plug in and wired the harness i bought from crutchfield to the harness that came with my radio. then i plugged it in and bam i was rollin'. the diagram is very simple and easy to look at. my wires didnt match up on one pair but i used trial and error (took about 10 seconds) to check the positive and negative wires that were backwards. this is a great product.

Ford Receiver Wire Harness - A+

Written By Dustin, Orange, CA on Thursday, September 01, 2005

I bought this harness so that I could replace the factory 1993 Taurus radio/cassette player with the aftermarket CD player I removed from my previous car. Wiring the harness to my CD player took only a half hour sitting at my kitchen table, took it all out to the car and the harness then clicked right into the factory ford harness in the dash! The in-trunk amp bypass harness also clicked in perfectly! The guides that are sent with the harness are great and easy to understand.

I am very satified with this product and purchase.

Be sure to use the factory amp bypass cable..

Written By Palehorse95, Church Hill , TN on Monday, July 18, 2005

This wiring harness was perfect for my 91' lincoln towncar.. In addition to to the normal wiring harness , the towncar needs a bypass cable to bypass the factory amplifier...failing to do so makes for distortion..This kit came with everything needed to do the job.. I am Very pleased !!
