About the Metra 70-5510 Receiver Wiring Harness

Metra 70-5510 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-5510 Receiver Wiring Harness

Installation Note: This harness uses your factory amplifier; your new stereo must have two pairs of preamp outputs to connect this harness.

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Product Research

Features

Metra Wiring Harness: Metra wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Metra wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Metra wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Metra wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicles may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required and sold separately.

Receiver Recommendation: It is recommended that this wiring harness be used with head units that have front and rear RCA line outputs. If this wire harness is intended for use with a radio that does not have front and rear RCA pre-amp outputs (with full range signal), then we recommend purchase of item 142SLC4 ($24.99) as well. If you have questions, please contact a Crutchfield advisor at 1-888-955-6000.

Q
So the rca on the black box just plug into the new aftermarket radio? I've watched several videos and they have them wired between the two harnesses so I wasn't sure

Hey Sheldon, great question. So this harness in particular, those RCAs are tied to the speakers in your system, so you need to ensure that the new radio being installed does in fact have front and rear RCA pre-outs on the back as that is where you will connect those.

Q
I have a 2000 ford mustang with the 460 Mach sound system my 2 big door speakers are not working I have no bass whatsoever. I have an after market stereo and took out the CD player to replace it with a compartment. Will this fix my issue I am having with my door speakers not working at all?

A
This harness would be one of the recommended for solutions for installing an aftermarket radio into your 2000 Ford Mustang. In theory, this should resolve the issue by properly feeding signal into the factory amplifier for your Mach 460 system. This is assuming that the factory amplifier and speakers are in good working order, of course.

Q
Will this harness work even if you don't have a factory amplifier?

I don't think so. I didn't realize my car had factory amps when I bought my stereo, so I ordered the wrong harness originally. If this was the replacement then it is for a car with amps.

I'm pretty sure it will work. My son's car doesn't have one and we used this harness.

The instructions say to use crimp caps or solder them. I soldered and used heat shrink. 18-22 (red) gauge crimp connectors should work also.
