Installation Note: This harness uses your factory amplifier; your new stereo must have one pair of preamp outputs to connect this harness.
This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.
First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.
Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.
Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.
Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.
As others have said, it doesn't work with the Mustang GT MACH 460 (2003). The power cuts out, the speakers randomly cut out. If you wiggle the connector, it cuts out. I've been fighting it for over a year. What's really bad is that this is the wiring that is recommended for my car, but it is terrible.
Pros: It sometimes allows me to listen to music.
Cons: It sometimes doesn't allow me to listen to music.Crutchfield response on September 8, 2015 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
Product fit well and worked great
Worked exactly as I needed.
Pros: Worked exactly as needed
Loved the product. Easy.ish install. Had an issue installing the built in amp. Going to have to reinstall later. All parts are there, just less than clear instructions.
Pros: All in one connectivity.
Cons: If wiring in built in amp, requires searching for install.
This harness makes the Mach Audio on my 02 Mustang work perfectly. Just wire as instructed and you're aftermarket head unit works fine.
Pros: Works perfectly.
The larger connector worked perfectly. The smaller did not. Same problem as other reviewrs with Mustang - the pin rows are too far apart on the subwoofer mating plug., with the pins lining up with the release notches rather than with the sockets for the pins.
Hoping to find another shell and transfer over, or a product that will work.
Pros: Large connector works correctly for application
Cons: subwoofer connector does not work right for application.Crutchfield response on September 3, 2014 After seeing some of these reviews, we took a hard look at this harness. We have switched to a different harness for these cars, one that matches up better. We're also talking to Metra (the manufacturer of this harness) to share this input with them, so they can either fix the design problem or change the list of vehicles it works with. Thanks for all the feedback.
Makes install a fool proof job and quick
The only way you could have made the installation of my new car receiver any easier would have been if you installed it for me! It worked perfect right out of the box.
Pros: Ease of installation
Just follow the crutchfield supplied instructions and everything is incredibly simple and works great.
Instructions easy to follow. Installation was successful. Results very satisfying.
I used this wire harness to put in my Sony receiver in my 2003 Mustang and it worked as advertised. I am very happy with it.
Pros: quick and easy
Great product worked great.
Pros: Very easy to use.
Very Good item.. My receiver sounds and function awesome with this wire harness .
Fit my original cable harness connectors perfectly. The new wiring matched the wiring from my new Sony head unit exactly which made wiring very easy. Instructions were clear and easy to follow.
Pros: Good fit to original connectors. Wiring colours matched new stereo system for easy install. Good, clear instructions.
I had a few wires that were unneeded but I got confused. Called tech support from Crutchfield and they walked me through it very awesome of them.
Pros: Only wires that will work with the mustangs with mach 460! And it was free with my purchase!
Harness worked like a charm, allowing me to integrate my deck into the Mach 460 speaker/amp system in my Mustang.
Pros: Clear instructions were quite helpful.
Cons: Would have been nice if the two amp ground leads had been terminated in ring connectors, since the instructions call for them to be grounded to the deck.
Setup for a 01 mustang Mach 1
Pros: Helped connect any aftermarket radio to and a Mac on system. No trouble just take you're time
Cons: Non what's so ever
easy to install with the instructions provided....works great
Pros: easy to install
Very easy to connect and wire to the factory harness. I took my time and trimmed and soldered all the connections for a clean and professional install.
It did exactly what it was supposed to do.
Pros: Free Worked
Great product and delivery time thanks.
Pros: Correct harness ordered three other places every time wrong product was delivered.
First time installing a CD player in my car, but it was easy as pie. This Metra kit worked PERFECTLY on my car and works superbly. Instillation can be a little tricky but customer service was off the charts awesome and clears everything up. All in all, great product. Works perfect.
The wiring kit was easy to understand and was very accurate. No issues whatsoever.
Easy to figure it out !
Pros: Easy and simple
Cons: Not level correctly
The wiring harness for the 2002 Mustang worked like a charm and the wire colors actually matched all the colors of the corresponding receiver colors which made it easy to double check against the wiring schematic provided by the receiver manufacturer and Crutchfield. I had only one question for Tech Support relative to an unused connector in the car that didn't connect to the new harness. He quickly related that it was not needed and he was right. All functons of the new receiver worked the first time without a hitch with this wiring harness. I soldered all the wiring connections and used heat shrink tubing and finally taped the loose wires of the harness together to make a really neat job and it all fit perfectly.
Pros: Connectors fit the car's wiring harness and the receiver's connectors, wiring schematics were easy to read, permitted doing all the soldering of the wires on the bench rather than in the car, and Tech Support was fast and accurate.
Cons: Needed to call Tech Support to assure myself that one connector from the car's harness wasn't needed.
Harnesses worked great with my 2003 Mustang Convertible and the JVC KW-HDR720 I was adding. My stock radio had 3 harnesses connected to it. This kit only comes with 2. Doesn't seem to be an issue as the JVC is using all 8 speakers (4 tweeters and 4 large). Wire colors matched perfectly with my JVC's wires.
One tip -- The instructions specify plugging the RCA plugs on the second harness into the subwoofer RCA jacks on the stereo. On the JVC, that resulted in "dull" sounds. I tried plugging them into the "Front" line-out jacks instead and the sound came alive! Much better frequency response and fuller sound. Bass is pretty good as well. The JVC KW-HDR720 has 3 sets of RCA jacks on the rear of the unit -- Subwoofer, Front, and Rear. For me, the Front ones worked better.
For reference, my Mustang doesn't have the tweeter amp under the factory radio...they were driven off the factory radio and are now driven by the JVC (what you'd probably want anyway). I'm assuming the large speakers (2 front, 2 rear) are driven off 2 amps behind the back seat -- I never looked for those. Those seem to work well with the JVC utilizing the tip I gave above.
Pros: Wire colors match my JVC stereo's wire colors
Cons: Instructions specify using the RCA plugs in the subwoofer jack -- I got better sound by using the Front line-out jack
Wiring harness worked fine. This was my first radio de-install and new intstall. Two calls to tech support one for mounting kit, the other for wiring got me back on track, There was nothing on the wiring sheet explaining where to put the blue/white Amplifier turn-on wires.
Pros: tech support was great.
Cons: wiring layout leaves a lot to be desired
Overall the instructions were really pretty good. Pretty much all the wires on the Harness from the Pioneer deck matched the new Mustang harness. The colors even matched, even though the instructions said they may not. The only exception is that my stock stereo had 3 separate harnesses and the wiring sheet said nothing about that. It would have been better if there was a note on the sheet explaining that the 2 new harnesses would replace the 3 from the stock deck. My call to Crutchfield took care of that question. Oh yeah, there was nothing on the wiring sheet explaining where to put the blue/white Amplifier turn-on wires. Another call to Crutchfield was needed for that.
Pros: Overall the instructions were very helpful. Just a few minor additions to the instruction sheet would make these perfect.
Cons: Just as I mentioned above, If there were a few changes to the sheets explaining the Amp turn-on wires and the 2 harnesses would replace the 3 then these would be perfect.
As always with Crutchfield the wiring harness was perfect. Saves so much time and makes the job so much easier.
This Kit "WILL NOT" work on 03 Ford Mustang Cobra with a MACH 460 System!!!
Pros: The 16 pin connector worked OK!
Cons: The MALE 8 pin connector would not connect to the FORD FEMALE 8 pin harness connector on my 03 Ford Mustang Cobra, Ford/Visteon CD6 Audiophile Mach 460 System; Ford P/N: 2R3T-18C815-AA.. The Connector is TOO BIG, and the two rows of 4 male pins are TOO CLOUSE and WILL NOT mate-up to the Ford female 8 pin connector. I went to about 10 different installers, and they ALL had the SAME CONNECTOR PROBLEM. I also took my radio with me TOO!!!
All I can say is, I questioned whether this would work with the '03 Ford Mustang Mach 1000 stereo system and all of the factory amplifiers, but it did! So far so good, plug and play!
Pros: Works with Ford Mach 1000 stereo system.
Harness worked exactly like it should. Read other reviews saying it wouldnt work w/MACH 460. Mine worked. White plug a little tricky @ first just have to line pins up and really push on it.
Pros: Whole lot easier than hard wiring new headunit.
The wiring harness is an excellent alternative to hard wiring the unit. The JVC KW-500 radio has about the same approach that the Crutchfield instructions use. If you have any type of wiring expierence, you should not have any problems. I noticed in the JVC instructions that it will warn you when you turn it on the first time if you have a wiring error. I cannot verify this because I got it right the first time. I did check to see if the plugs fit before I started wiring it up.
Pros: excellent product
Cons: May need more instruction if you have never wired anything like this before.
Like other reviewers here, upon arrival, I noticed one harness (amp ground/power to RCA) doesn't fit my 2001 Mustang GT Convertible with MACH 460. The adapter is too small, and the factory jack is too large. I called support (very helpful) and they sent me the correct part #120705701 that day. They should offer a harness set that combines both of these parts to fit the Mustang correctly.
***If you have a '01-'03 Mustang with MACH 460, this harness WILL NOT fit correctly. Only one piece will fit. The other part required is in #120705701 (search this number up top and you'll see what I mean.)***
Pros: One piece (factory reciever harness) fits.
Cons: Other piece (amp power/ground to RCA) doesn't fit.
The harness worked well. I only had one question, and it was easily confirmed by tech support.
I called Crutchfield - who by the way was remarkably helpful - and let them know I saw a different harness kit: Item# 120705701. They mail one out for free and it got here very fast. It took me about 4 weeks to get to trying new harness but Item# 120705701 seems to be PERFECT for my 2003 Mustang convertible. The speakers that are against the windows in front say 'Mach' on them if that helps. Thanks Crutchfield!!!! Top notch support.
Pros: This kit makes it VERY easy to install. I think there was two different harnesses for 2003 Mustangs because the first harness that was sent had one connector that didn't fit quite right. I also saw another user with the same exact issue. Read more in rest of review!!!!
Cons: The one connector that didn't fit quite right.
Very clear direction. Any questions will be answered by tech support for free!!!!!!!
The kit is pretty nice. I've only installed a car stereo once and this makes it pretty easy. I
got stuck powering the Ford Mach-460 subwoofer but one call to Crutchfield got that
straight. There was only 1 small issue with the connections. The white connector did
not really snap-in tightly to the Ford connecter in the car. It kept coming unconnected. I
plugged it in as hard as I could and then wrapped the entire connection tightly with
electrical tape. Everything seesm to work fine but I'll have to run around this summer to
see if it stays connected. I figure it will since I wrapped it so tightly with the tape.
This wiring harness came with my Pioneer DEH-6200BT stereo. The instruction are
very easy to follow. Take your time. Follow the included wiring diagram and
you'll have no problems.
Harness mated with factory unit perfectly, no issues. Only had to call for advice once
since my car didn't have a set of connections this harness accomidated.
In general good, but the instrustions could be better. It wasn't clear on a couple points.
For example, it didn't make it clear that all the power supply lines needed to be together.
Probably should point out specifically which connections were not used.
I have installed car stereo products for a good part of my life and this wiring harness simply will not work. Car was a 2002 Ford mustang gt w/ factory mach 460 system. The factory plug controling the amplifiers WILL not fit into the harness crutchfield provides. It is to large. You can stick the two together, wiggle around the harness and you can hear the amps cut on and off. If you want to rig, do so at your on risk. I can see the harness coming loose over time. I see by reading the feedback here im not the only one with this problem.
This was the easiest install I have ever done. This wiring harness works like a jewel!
2002 Mustang Mach 460 At first I couldn't get the bass and amps to work. Called CF
once and they said to check the wires. Lot's of references on the Net of other people
having the same problem. I accidently found the white connector on the 5519 harness
wouldn't fit tight. The pins on the connector were smaller than the ones on the car's
harness. They are also very easy to bend. I put a wire bundle zip tie between the two as
a quick fix and it now works great. Others have taken the connector completely out and
straight wired the harness. This defeats the whole purpose.
if you can read , and aren't color blind , you can instal this item and it will work great !! instructions are easy and concise ...thanks again CRUTCHFIELD !!,,,also thanks to SCOOTER for finding what i needed ! great support !!
This product works like a charm. The instructions are clear with one exception...what to do with the negative dimmer wire...didn't know if I should ground it or what I called the support folks and was told to just cap it. The display works fine and dims with the headlights on with just the illumination wire connected. This was used on a 03 Mustang that originally had the mach 460 system.
This harness worked perfectly for installation of an aftermarket Sony radio.
Installation did not require any further items. High pass filters
were not needed. I used the sub outputs from the radio. They worked
better than full frequency preamp outputs even though they are mono.
You may want to consider limiting your radio selection to one with a true
subwoofer output for this application.
Fit was good, however came to find out it made my aftermarket system sound like a tin can since my head unit and stock mach amps where at different ohms. Ended up having to bypass my stock amps, install a new one and run new wire. Ford did not make this one easy to replace.
I got one of these with my receiver, but when I went to plug it into my car, one of the prongs broke right off. I emailed crutchfield, and they sent me out a replacement at no cost! 5 stars for customer service, 3 stars for harness...
No problems - worked as expected.
I was pleased with the adapter overall, but I had one disappointment. My only disappointment was that the adapter only has one set of rca outputs . This causes both the door and rear speakers to be on the same channel, which lowers the tuning capability of the system. Other than that the adapter works fine and was easy to install.
Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.
Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.
Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.
