Metra 70-5521 Receiver Wiring Harness

Installation Note: This harness uses your factory amplifier; your new stereo must have one pair of preamp outputs to connect this harness.

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • dimmer

Cons: Did not wire itself

Dont be confused with "remote control" wire and "remote" wire. They're both blue. Also I'm not sure what to do with the harness with the RCAs..

Pros: Colors matched up well for me. Wires come stripped.

Cons: Not 100% clear instructions

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Everything was going great until I got to the small wiring harness for Mach sub system. There was no detail on the package on how to wire. After contacting Crutchfield support Rudy helped me out with both Blu/Wht wires going to Blu/Wht Amp turn on wire of after market head end unit and plugging the white RCA into the Sub Out of the same unit.

Pros: Easy color matching

Cons: Missing wiring notes for small Mach sub wiring harness

Written By Samone, Pataskala, Ohio on Tuesday, January 06, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the most part this product works fine.

Pros: Easy to hook up. I required an additional product to hook this up that got a little tricky but the Crutchfield tech support guy made it easy.

Cons: I bought a JVC receiver along with this product that is supposed to be in tune with the headlights for brightness but it doesn't work... as a matter of fact it doesn't light up at all when radio is off. The orange orange/white wire is suppose to control the lighting and dimmer which is hooked up but doesn't work.

Worked for my 207 Mustang with Shaker 500

Written By Adrian, Mission Viejo, CA on Sunday, October 05, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This worked in my 2007 Mustang with Shaker 500. It was a bit difficult to get all the connections right. I would definitely recommend getting the crimp caps from Crutchfield because I couldn't find them anywhere; not even radio shack. Although I ended up using 18-22 gauge butt caps. You'll want a good crimp tool as well.

Pros: Worked for my stereo

Cons: The harness had an extra wire that wasn't on the instructions. I called and customer service/ tech support was very helpful. I ended up taping the extra wire off. Also if you get the voltage converter it's a bit weird to set up. The instructions are accurate and I got it right but had to call customer service again because it just didn't seem right but it was.

06 Mustang GT Shaker500

Written By Dwayne, Swanton, MD on Monday, August 11, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I didn't have have to splice anything into the stock amps so that was awesome. I was a little confused because I had a 3rd connector that didn't seem to plug in to anything that originally plugged into my stock stereo, but the Crutchfield rep verified that I didn't need to plug it into anything. Seems to work okay.

Pros: Easy to install.

Cons: Crutchfield claims this and other items are "free" with order, but they're really not free. They inflate the price if the stereos to cover the cost of these "free" items and their "free" shipping. Nothing is free. You're still paying for this.

Harness worked great, just don't understand why all the pins needed were not installed in the connector. I had to splice into 2 other wires to in the factory harness for the steering wheel controls that I felt should have been pinned in the connector.

Pros: Fit up perfect

Cons: Not all terminal points have pins inserted for costumer use.

Cons: No reverse or parking brake connections.

Written By John W, Massapequa Park, NY on Saturday, May 04, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This harness enabled me to make all of my speaker and other wiring connections on my dining room table before disassembling my dashboard. Once the old unit was removed this harness just plugged right in and worked almost perfectly. I say almost because the only stock feature that does not work for some reason is the dimmer control. But since I installed a DVD player with a full glass touch screen I don't really see this as a problem for me.

Pros: makes wiring the new head unit a simple task as long as you stay neat and organized while making connections.

Cons: No dimmer control.

The wire harness that was included from Crutchfield was great. It was easy to follow with the color coordinated wires. They even sent me the extra cable for the factory sub! Make sure to double check all connections before sliding the unit back in the dash. Otherwise, easy.

Cons: Limited instructions, especially for the sub. If you have never put in a stereo, get some help.

Plug-and-Play is the Word, 2005 Mustang Convert Shaker 500

Written By RandyD, Arlington, TX on Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Make sure you have plenty of wire-to-wire connectors, a good crimping tool, and you're good to go. To connect the wire harnesses to the radio, color goes to color. It's that simple. Then, it's plug into the empty car harness. If I remember correctly you'll end up with an empty plug on the car harness that accommodates things such as speed sensitive sound increase/reduce and dim control to the HU display. You'll probably lose both of these functions with a new HU.

Pros: Easy to connect, and, if you have a question, Crutchfield is just a quick phone call away.

Cons: Note sure if it's even possible, but the new harness does not support speed sensitive sound or display dim to the new HU.

Makes installation a breeze.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These two looms are brilliant. It made the installation of the radio very easy. Everything was color coded so there was no reason to test wiring or trace the wiring.

Pros: Color coded and worked first time, no problems

Cons: None.

Good Job!

Doesn't work in the 2004 Town Car Ultimate

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Although the speaker harness does work , the Subwoofer out connecter is not compatible. Unfortunately spend $64.00 including Saturday Delivery. The problem with the RCA conncecter is that there are wires in the connector that connect to nothing on the car side. Pins 1,2,3,4 are populated on the vehical side. Pins 5, 6, 7, 8 are empty. On the aftermarked harness, pins 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 are all populated. Had to buy another amp and subwoofer just to recieve bass.

Pros: Half of the harness works

Cons: The other half doesn't

Works great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

All cable colors correspond to factory cables. It was a bit confusing when connecting to the subwoofer, but only took a few moments to figure it out (for me it was the solid blue wire from the RCA cable connection)

Pros: Simple Straightforward

Could not have been simpler. One-for-one, color matched wiring along with an easy-to-understand 'map' of the wiring.

Pros: ease of use, high-quality materials, perfect match

Cons: None so far

Wire HArness

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great and does what its suppose to do. Only complaint isn't the product fault but the instructions: it took me while to figure out where to connect the Amp turn-on wire. I had to call Crutchfield and they told me to connect it to the power antenna of the receiver. Once i did that it worked perfectly (FORD ESCAPE 2006)

Pros: Easy to use, works great

Cons: none for the product its self but for the instruction didnt explain where to connect Amp turn-on wire

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall good product. My factory unit had additional plugs that were not necessary for the installation of the new unit. It would have been nice for the instructions to note the additional plugs may not be used.

Pros: Made the install easier.

Cons: Had to call the tech line to figure out what to do with the extra plugs from the back of my original unit.

Plug & Play

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This wire harness provided a simple plug and play solution for installing a Clarion CX501 into a 2007 F-150. It requires some technical skills and soldering. The only issue was having to install a voltage reducer into the subwoofer power feed after the new radio caused the factory subwoofer to pop loudly when the radio come on.

Pros: Helps simplify installation without cutting into factory wiring.

Cons: None.

Just one thing...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is nearly a must for installing your stereo because it makes it so much simpler. I have a 2006 F150 King Ranch with sub, but found that I needed to do one additional thing. My Crutchfield advisor mentioned (thanks!) that I needed to add a linear regulator circuit (uA7805) to lower the voltage from my new Sony 770 Nav remote amp signal to my Ford sub amp remote enable. This circuit drops the Sonys 12V output to 5V, was not hard to do, but certainly added some complexity since I needed to build the circuit ( i did it myself since I'm a EE). This is just FYI. Do all the wiring on this cable before you start your installation and it will save lots of time. The Crutchfield tech guys are a big asset because they can look up specific wires from your vehicle and tell you where to tap into them.

Pros: Highly recommended - A real time saver and fits perfectly.

Cons: Two of the wires I needed on this connector were not populated. These were the steering wheel control wires and really should have been there. I just had to tap into these wires on the cars connector (before this one). Not a stopper, just more time consuming.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm an amateur when it comes to cars, but this harness made installing my radio very simple. I was able to easily follow the instructions and everything turned out great...until I turned the sound on. For some reason, the subwoofers won't turn on. I tried disconnecting the plugs, but there was no difference in the sound. Sadly, it makes my music sound hollow, and I'm almost tempted to put my factory radio back in. If it wasn't for that, I would have 5-stared it.

Pros: Super easy even for us n00bs.

Cons: Subwoofers didn't connect.

Makes connections very easy. The only thing I can think of to improve this product would be if it came with solderless connectors.

Pros: Makes connection to vehicle harness very easy. Connection is OEM quality.

Cons: None

This is a must have item for a 2005 Ford F150 Crew Cab with the sub speaker in the back.

Pros: The shipping was fast & it was just plug & play. Very easy to install.

Cons: You will hear a pop when the receiver is turned on. Not sure how to stop the pop sound.
