This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.
First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.
Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and it also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.
Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.
Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.
Wiring harness was as expected, but between this and head unit instructions, it was not as easy as it should have been.
Pros: as expected
Cons: minimal instructions
Installer had no problem and from look of it wires look durable and reliable
Easy to use and good instructions!
Pros: Plugs right into your car and you splice to the stereo harness easily.
Nice and easy to install
Pros: Easy and colors matched up nice with factory harness
installed on 06 mazda mx5 with axxess steering wheel adapter to Pioneer FH-X720BT. did not add amp or other speakers. I did have to move the blue and blue/white wires over to the 1N and !P positions to which one went to the white and green on the axxess and the 1p to the grounds that the axxess and the radio used. otherwise a flawless installation with easy color matching.
Pros: perfect color matching other than mentioned wire exchange. precut wires make for quick install. perfect fit for my mazda mx5 nc
Cons: had to move to wires that it could have come preinstalled with but move was simple and took 2mins max.
Nice harness, wire colors match perfectly with a Pioneer receiver. Took some time to figure out the steering wheel control wiring. As much the fault of the wheel control instructions, but something Metra can keep in mind for the next generation of harnesses.
Pros: Easy, straightforward install.
Cons: The only con is, it would be nice if it included pigtails for the steering wheel control adaptor inputs.
The harness was fine - nothing special about it - it worked as expected. Would have liked to have seen some additional options so we didn't have to "tap in" to a few of the lines manually.
Pros: The lines were color coded and labelled appropriately. Some of the lines we weren't going to need were already marked with tape.
Cons: We did have to use "t-taps" to splice into the existing steering wheel lines. While easy enough to do, it was something we had to learn about first with the Crutchfield Representative and stop the project to go purchase additional parts at the hardware store. It was very straightforward to accomplish the install, but I think the kit should have come with these extra pieces. We lost time having to research and buy additional parts.
I had to tap into the wiring harness in order to get to the steering wheel control signals. The addition of two wires on the metra harness would have saved much time. Email to metra tech support were unanswered.
Made the install super easy. Worked like I expected.
Pros: All good
Harness made installation easy.
Pros: Very easy to make all Connections bench then install
Was exactly what I was looking for, had the wiring diagram on the packaging, and helped with a clean and simple install.
Great product It,s dummy proof, all wires are labeled easy to follow instructions
Pros: Great product at a great price
Cons: Wish it came with butt connectors to help on installation for a more pro like install.
made installation easy
Pros: easy install
Cons: would have been nice if all wires were there for steering wheel control
Pros: Fits the wiring of my Mazda 2 just like an original manufacturer part
With one exception, this adapter was exactly what I needed to install a new head unit in my MX5. The adapter is very well built, and allowed east integration without having to cut any wires. The miss is that two pins necessary to use the steering wheel adapter were missing. There were open holes for the pins, but the pins were not included. There were also no instructions included about what to do to correct the problem. I called Crutchfield tech support, who were great with telling me which pins to move, and how to move them. These instructions should be included with the adapter.
Pros: Ease of install
Cons: Missing pins for my installation. Instructions lacking.
First one did not work and returned for a new one. Once I received the new one, the installation worked out well. My steering wheel controls all working fine now.
Pros: Works well.
Cons: Instructions on wiring could be better explained or illustrated...Tricky to program.
What can I say, it connected to my 2001 Mazda Proteges dash harness easy as pie and worked.
Pros: No problems
Was easy and quick. I solder the harness and had no issues
Easy to install and program. Works flawlessly
Simple way to keep the cars wiring intact.
Pros: All wiring colors matched the Pioneer head unit wiring colors.
Cons: The ONLY con is, it would be nice if it included pins, and pigtails, for the steering wheel control adaptor inputs.
My son wanted a new radio for his 2003 Mazda. I Told him I Will do it for you. Its bin a long time since I put a radio in. I mean a long time like when you had to cut the wire harness and try to match the wires. And hope all 4 speakers are working.
Pros: This item was so easy to hook up.It made me look so good to my son .Now I can order a radio for my Ford Escape.Thank you Crutchfield
Used this to install a new head unit in my wife's 02 Mazda Protege 5. All the colors matched the head unit wire colors, so it was really easy to figure out what wires to connect. Only way to improve this would be to pre-strip, or at least pre-score, the wire insulation.
Easy enough to solder connections to the aftermarket harness. Solid connection to the factory harness as well.
Made radio installation a breeze.
Pros: easy installation
Quick and easy ordering and receiving of product. I had to modify it to use Bose amp and speakers, works like a dream very good fit.
Pros: Great fit
Cons: No Bose amp contact
All fit perfectly. Very good!
Pros: Easy to undernstand instructions
Metra neglected to include the two wires used for steering wheel control. Had they been there, you could solder all splices to this harness on the workbench. But as is, you need to splice into the car harness in place. This is not an insignificant pain as there is very little slack for splicing. The whole point of a harness adapter is to circumvent any need to cut into the car wiring itself. Had Metra included those two wires, this would be a 5-star product. Without them it's 2-stars.
I love this product. I chatted online and they were able to find me this to install my new radio. It was fast and easy to install with this.
Pros: Fast Easy
Cons: Nothing bad
Got everything I needed on Crutchfield. It all works great!
Pros: Fit perfect and even included full wire diagram for harness
Crutchfield provides excellent products and services. When I called for additonal help, they responded quickly and accurately.
Even I could do it! Straightforward, quick, and easy using provided instructions.
Very straight forward.....no problems
missing pins for steering wheel controls
This harness was included in Crutchfield's supposedly complete solution to add a new head unit to my 2004 Mazda3. When I went to do the install I was dismayed to learn that the harness did not have 2 pins needed to connect the steering wheel controls adapter. When I called Crutchfield they told me I needed to "hardwire" (as in hack into my factory wiring harness) the steering wheel control adapter. After I called to RMA the radio and everything else Crutchfield sent me a second wiring harness which I was able to cannibalize to the harness the pins I needed..
While I am satisfied that Crutchfield ultimately helped me solve this problem they should not have sold an incomplete solution to begin with and Metra should stop cheaping out and include the pins people need to use.
Pros: Not that difficult to remove pins from a "donor" harness to build a complete harness.
Cons: Missing pins.
no pin out for steering wheel controls, other then that good product
Provides easy hook up for basic install but was missing 2 wires to hook up the steering wheel controls.
Pros: Great quality
Cons: does not have wires to connect the OEM steering wheel control!
I had to purchase a second harness in order to get the steering wheel controls in my 2009 Mazda MX5 w/o Bose to work with my Alpine ILX-007. There are two missing pins. I purchased a second harness and had to carefully remove the pins in order to install them in the 1N and 1P locations. There were many people reporting the same issue on the Miata forums so I was lucky to have had some outside guidance.
Pros: Most of it there. The quality of the harness, wires and pins are very good.
Cons: Had to buy a second harness to add pins for steering wheel controls.
Made installation a breeze.
Excellent installation kit. Fit the factory harness perfectly
This Metra harness fit seamlessly mated my new Kenwood head unit to my 2007 Mazda 3. The harness included 2 connectors (powered antenna and remote amp) that were not being used. I was able to re-pin the unused wires to other places on the harness for connecting my new PAC-SWI-RC steering wheel control which prevented me from splicing into the factory wires which I was trying to avoid at all costs. This is a great harness, I would not hesitate to buy another when the need comes.
Pros: fits perfect, extra wires (in my case)
Look, you need it. On my car, 2 of the pins that connected to the Axxess box and the antenna power were incorrect. After not getting this to work and a call to Crutchfield not helping, I noticed the wire mismatch when snapping the shells together. Took a few minutes to swap pins. It all worked fine. Cost me some head angling over two evenings. :-(
Pros: You need it
Cons: You need it to be correct
It works. Hooray.
Sadly, the manufacturer cheaped out with the harness. Only about half of the wires on the stock harness are filled. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they didn't include the pins and wires for the steering wheel radio controls!
So I had to move the amp connections over to the steering wheel radio pins (because I don't have an amp and had the non-bose radio). It was a pain pushing the pins out and then plugging them into the correct spots. Another $0.25 of wires and pins would have made this so much easier.
I have a 2008 Mazda Miata, non-Bose radio and steering wheel radio controls.
Pros: Don't have to cut into the stock harness. Plugs in perfectly. Colors on wires are industry standard.
Cons: Not all pin spots filled. Need to modify the wiring so it'll work with the steering wheel controls or cut into the car radio harness.
My first time wiring a aftermarket radio and it was really simple u just matched the colors and u can put your stock radio back in whenever u want too.
Pros: Very easy and simple u don't really need the instructions.
Cons: the should make it a double way adapter.
Does the job well.
Pros: Works great, easy and quick install.
Simple wire harness
Pros: Easy set up and installion.
The harness fits a Miata but 2 of the pins don't have or match the factory harness, hence you need to bypass the harness union...not good as they don't tell you this!
Easy and best way to use the current wiring even with factory amp and sub woofer.
Pros: Easy and simply
Took me 15 minutes to wire this harness up to my Kenwood stereo. Didn't really need the directions as the color codings were pretty much dead on. It even works with the dimmer in my car. Great product.
Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.
Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.
Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

I chose this because it was needed for the stereo head unit that I purchased. [ Blake Jan 14, 2016 ]
These have worked great in the past. This one will be my 4th or 5th through Crutchfield. I have only had 1 install issue, and they had me on the right track in minutes. Takes some time, but, is easy. Do a good solder, use shrink tube, and you will look like a pro. Beats the heck out of rewiring the entire system. [ Earl Dec 15, 2015 ]
It's we what I needed to install the stereo, plus it was free [ Terry Dec 10, 2015 ]
