About the Metra 70-8112 Receiver Wiring Harness

Metra 70-8112 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-8112 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Installation Note: This harness uses your factory amplifier; your new stereo must have two pairs of preamp outputs to connect this harness.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Features

Metra Wiring Harness: Metra wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Metra wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Metra wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Metra wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

Wire Code Chart:

Wire Color Function
Red +12 Volt Accessory

Factory Amp Note: This harness includes RCA connections (instead of speaker wire leads) to connect the aftermarket head unit's preamp outputs to your vehicle's factory amp. Your aftermarket head unit must be equipped with front & rear preamp outputs.

Q
I have a 1994 Toyota celica gt and am trying to install my kenwood double din but none of the wiring diagrams I've seen match what I have. Can someone please help me out?

Does your car have an ampifier? This harness 70-8112 will route audio from the low-level Head Unit outputs into the amplifier. No amplifier? You need 70-1761Toyota / Scion / Subaru 1987-Up Harness, to drive your speakers directly from the HU.

This one actually runs to the factory amplifier and supports the premium sound system in your Avalon. It should work perfectly. I had the same concerns about my 97 and it works great. Hope this helps

This harness is used to install a new radio into a '98 Avalon that has 7 speakers in it. There is an amp in the vehicle that powers the speakers and get 4 channel preamp audio from the radio. The RCA connections on this harness is meant to plug into front and rear preamp outputs on the new radio My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

I have the same 7 speaker system on the 98 XLS. I have not yet upgraded my Avalon, even though I purchased everything to do it in Feb. 2017. This is my take on that, even though I have not looked at the wire harness my assumption is that the Front Door Tweeters split off from the bottom speakers and that the Back Bass Speaker on the back shelf running under the center brake light is a "Phantom" Speaker running from the Rear Door Speakers via their wiring harness. This design was used years ago. I do have the Electrical Workshop Manual and will try to see if I am even close on all this. Things move at the speed of Bob and I have been addressing the Speedo issue as both the Avalon and Lexus models have an electrical bridge that cause it to fail intermittently or permanently. Good luck with it all. I will try to update this later when I have more... BobD.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
I have a sony HU with only one set of outputs. Is there a connector I can get that will fit with this idea?

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: He'll need a receiver with a 4 channel pre-amp output to use that harness. The RCA connections go to the factory amp and each RCA connection represents a speaker. If he doesn't connect two then he won't be able to use those speakers. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
