About the Metra 70-8114 Steering Wheel Control Harness

John Pollard

Metra 70-8114 Steering Wheel Control Harness

Metra's 70-8114 harness allows you to connect the steering wheel audio controls in 2003-15 Toyota-built vehicles (if equipped) to a new car stereo without having to splice into your factory wiring.

Metra 70-8114 Steering Wheel Control Harness

Metra's 70-8114 harness allows you to connect the steering wheel audio controls in 2003-15 Toyota-built vehicles (if equipped) to a new car stereo without having to splice into your factory wiring.

To use this harness, you'll need the Axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel control interface (sold separately) and a compatible aftermarket radio (won't work with Parrot, Rosen, or Car Show radios). You'll also need a vehicle-specific wiring harness to install your aftermarket stereo. We'll show you the correct harness when you enter your vehicle information into our online vehicle selector.

Once you've connected this harness to your new receiver's rear RCA auxiliary input, you'll also be able to use the handy auxiliary input in your Toyota. This adapter will work with any 2003-up Toyota, Lexus, and Scion vehicle equipped with steering wheel audio controls. Warranty: 1 year.

Important note: The aftermarket radio you install must have a rear RCA auxiliary input if you wish to retain your factory auxiliary input.

Will this work for my 2012 Toyota Tundra, and do I need the adapter? I already have the aftermarket stereo installed and the harness

This harness does work in 2012 Tundra pickups, but is not always needed. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to discuss the specifics on your Tundra as well as the radio and wiring harness you have now to check if this as well as other parts help with the installation of it.

Q
Can you use this along with a crutchfield harness for aftermarket head units? Instructions for both this harness and the stereo harness say to connect to the factory (20 pin) connector in the car - but how can you clip two harnesses into a single factory connector (without having to splice wires, as advertised)??
jonathan w  Nov 30, 2018

A
The Metra 70-8113 wire harness connects to the original factory connector (the one that disconnects from the original stereo chassis) in compatible vehicles and provides the leads for connection to an aftermarket stereo's harness (packaged with the aftermarket stereo). This harness also provides RCA connections for attaching to the aftermarket stereo's pre-amp outputs to the factory amplifier in compatible vehicles. For additional assistance and personalized recommendations, feel free to contact us directly by phone or through our online chat service: https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

I have a 2005 Toyota prius and in order to get the temperature control screen I would need to put a resistor. Will this eliminate the need for the resistor?

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss specifics with your vehicle's factory system. They can cover all your questions in greater detail to ensure you have the right part(s) for your installation.

Q
What are the aux wires on this for? Do they need to be used? Have a double din bluetooth head unit with aux outs, but no amplifier. Are the aux plugs unnecessary ?

A
The 3.5mm (male) connection in the Metra 70-8114 harness is the steering wheel control output--it would plug directly into your aftermarket receiver's 3.5mm (female) steering wheel control input. For more details or to discuss further, please contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Thank you! :)

Q
Can this be used without the Axxess ASWC-1 and how would you go about doing so? Please don't just say no so I spend more money and buy it as I just don't have $70 to spend. I have an aftermarket Sony DSX-A400BT, Toyota Camry 2005. Do you need to know the Wiring harness I used to put it in? Should be irrelevant?
conor  Sep 11, 2017

A
The Metra 70-8114 harness cannot be used without the Axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel control adapter. It's designed to simplify the installation of the Axxess ASWC-1 adapter in select 2003-up Toyota vehicles, including the '05 Camry. For more details or to discuss further, please feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat.

Thanks for your question. Looking at both harnesses you should be covered to get something in the 14 to 18 gauge range. Hope this helps.
