Q
Just to clarify, this harness will allow me to install an aftermarket radio, and the head unit and speakers will work, the signal just wonâ??t run through the factory amp? I want to confirm I wonâ??t need any other harness. Thanks.

Greetings John. Thank you for your question. This harness will bypass the factory amplifier in select Toyota vehicles. With this harness you would be using the built in amplifier of the new stereo.

Q
I have installed an aftermarket dd and I used a harness to keep the oem jbl Amp but now having issues with no sound so I believe I need to bypass the amp. Question is" would the bypass run from the current harness"?
rocka  Aug 03, 2022

A
That's a good question, Robyn. This harness is used to run from your new radio to the amp location, if you have a vehicle type and years this Metra 70-8117 supports. This will delete that amp and use the amp in your new radio, and this is definitely the move if the OEM JBL amp is having issues. I would also check that your JBL amp's turn on wire is connected, on some installs you need to connect that to the new radio like with an aftermarket amp install! If the JBL amp truly is bad this harness is the way to go. I hope this helps!

Q
I assume the larger 20 pin connector plugs into the factory amp and then the wires are run up to the head unit where they are tied into the after market stereo wiring harness? Where does the smaller plug go? Does it plug into one of the factory plugs behind the head unit to bring power to the system?

A
Yes to both questions. This way you do not have to splice into the factory harness, just plug this harness into the factory harness and splice into the head unit. It worked perfect on my '03 4Runner with the JBL system. Good luck.
avery  Apr 22, 2015
A
The 20 pin connector in this kit plugs into the harness that you unplug from the factory amplifier. This gives you access to the factory speaker wiring harness with out cutting off the factory 20 pin connector. (bypassing the amplifier) The smaller connector plugs into the factory radio wiring harness and is connected to your aftermarket head unit to provide constant and switched power and ground to it.
