Metra 70-9195 Receiver Wiring Harness

Overview

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-9195 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna/amp remote turn-on
  • illumination
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

This worked out great! It really simplified the wiring task, and tucked nicely into the dash behind the head unit.

I got a wording harness for my 95 318 is. Instolation was super easy, Crutchfield is great at making insulation instructions. It took me about an hour to install my new deck and I didn't have to splice wires. BMWs have a problem and won't start if u splice the wrong wires. I didn't have to worry because I went through Crutchfield!

Pros: Easy instolation Quick shipping Grate products

Cons: To much packing material

Product would be a 5/5 but the striped blue wire needed to be attached to the solid blue on the harness. Apparently this is a common problem since the tech knew exactly what to do almost before I asked the question. Crutchfield, please update the install direction sheet!!

Pros: easy install

Cons: instructions not accurate by 1 connnection

Crutchfield response on June 11, 2014 As the instructions suggest, the blue wire on the harness is used for a variety of accessory connections that require a turn-on signal, like a power antenna or amplifier. But whenever you're in doubt, calling Crutchfield tech support is the right thing to do!

Just solder the wires to any aftermarket radio adapter and presto, it mates with the BMW plug.

Pros: Works like a charm. No cutting into your BMW wire harness

Cons: If you have a BMW plug with the business plug attached to the side, you have to shave off a little piece of the BMW Receiver harness plug to make it fit correctly.

Written by: Jon P from Potomac MD on September 23, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was very easy to match up the wiring on the replacement unit I bought. Note: you need to wire up the blue wire to get the power antenna working (some reviews are saying radio reception is poor). The harness connector is very big and was very tight on my installation. I had to remove the sub frame to route some of the wiring below the unit to make it all fit. You will need splicing hardware - the only thing Crutchfield didn't supply - if you are not planing on soldering the wires.

Pros: Easy to wire up harness to new unit wiring New unit is working without any issues/interference

Cons: Block Connector could have been smaller to aid installation in tight area behind new unit

Had to modify this...really?

Written by: MattN from Cameron, NC on January 19, 2013

2003 BMW 3 Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Since I had to modify it, I'm only giving it one star. I put a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X696 in my 2003 BMW 325i (E46) along with the Axxess ASWC steering wheel control adapter. The BMW harness adapter doesn't have all the pins that are needed to connect everything. Luckily, there was one pin left over that I didn't use (orange one). I had to pull it out of its slot with a jeweler's screwdriver and put it into the one I needed it in. The molex-type connector used is not the same that's used in computers. I soldered the wires to make straight connections, but I wish I would've done that differently Lining up the ends and twisting them together before soldiering would make it easier to fit all the wires and adapters in the small DIN slot. I chose the solder (63/37) option to reduce signal loss.

Pros: Good pin-out diagram

Cons: Not all pins are there. Had to modify.

2002 BMW 3 Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great for connecting the main wires, but I have no idea why they got cheap and didn't include pins for ALL radio connections. I want to mount a steering wheel control and I either have to buy another adapter and extract pins from it, or cut into my factory harness. Bad cost cutting measure. Of course, if you don't care to add other accessories or tap into the other connections on the factory radio you don't care about my issue and it works 100%

Pros: easy install, reasonable quality

Cons: doesn't include all potential pins, just the main power / speaker connectors. no steering wheel adapter pin.

It works perfectly. I have a 1995 BMW 325i with the 10 speaker HK system and it used to have the factory Alpine stereo. I was able to solder the adapter to my new Kenwood wire harness and everything works perfectly.

Pros: Most of the wires are color matched for ease while soldering.

Cons: The blue/white striped wire from the BMW harness must be connected to the blue solid wire on the new stereo harness. This will tell the amp to turn on and will give you sound. If this is not done, you won't get sound.

I like aftermarket wiring harnesses that require no modification of the factory wiring harness. Nice, clean install. I chose to solder the wiring verses crimping but that's just personal preference. NOTE: The BLUE wire on the adapter harness needs to be connected to amplifier remote lead in order to work Most BMW's have a built in amp which needs to be told to turn on. NOTE: Blue wire on the adaptor harness needs to be connected to amplifier remote turn on lead in order to work! Your Beemer has a built in amp which needs to be told to turn on. Those reviewers who indicated that they only got power but no sound likely missed this step. But no sound.one call to cusromer service and everything worked like a charm. Thanks guys!

Pros: Works on 92 BMW 535i without the pacsome and Kenwood Kdc x395 using stock amp and speakers.

This harness seems somewhat of a "universal" unit since I didn't use all the leads on my '97 BMW 318ti. I thought this plug would make a plug and play system for me but it didn't work, the only matching pins were power and ground, I've cut and spliced everything else plus I've now lost the factory amp I was trying to use!

1994 BMW 325IS
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This adapter is an exact match for the factory E36(94 325is) plug, and exactly matched the wiring colors from the head unit that I bought (pioneer DEH-2200UB). I soldered and shrink wrapped the connections between the two harnesses which took longer than the actual unit installation itself. The adapter snaps into the factory connection and has the same pins on the side so you can just slide the locking cover forward and the adapter is locked in there. It is a bulky connection between the factory and this adapter and I had to lightly push them back behind the support bracket in the back with a wooden dowel, but that only took a second and it was installed.

Nice clean way to connect a new head unit to the BMW E36. Used a terminal strip to connect to the Alpine harness so it was easier to change any connections (which I ended up having to do). I had to change the blue wire and connect the blue 'striped' wire.

I had to use a knife to cutoff the nubs on each corner of the black plastic adapter, else it wouldn't fit. I bought for a BMW 528i Production Mo/Yr 02/2000. Works as advertised after modifying for fit.

1997 BMW 318TI
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Does EXACTLY what it is supposed to do. Only issue is space behind the radio. (See Tim, Cocoa, FL- 318ti) It is really cramped behind there. I have been able to get it to fit, but it takes a lot of patience an playing to get it in there. You would probably be better off to cut the factory connector off and splice it in directly. Issue is not with Crutchfield's product, but with the bulky BMW connector. It is meant to fit right on the back of the factory radio and when it is tucked behind the radio, the space problem becomes an issue.

BMW Stereo Connector

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered this stereo connector so I could replace the factory head unit with an aftermarket JVC. The new connector wired up the JVC without a hitch. All of the color coded wires matched up exactly so it was a breeze. The new stereo did not want to fit into the dash with the new plug but all I had to do was cut the plastic piece that was in the dash. This was the plastic piece that was verticle where the old unit's bolt would fit into a hole for security. A little saw cut through the plastic like hot butter and it was done. The new unit turned right on and was wired up to the speakers, power, etc just like a factory install. Great connector for the job.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This item is all you need for a 1994 BMW to hook-up to the standard factory remote amplifier system, when replacing the factory dash receiver with a newer aftermarket receiver, in my case a Kenwood . I didn't need the recommended signal interface unit, only this harness, as other owners have also stated for their BMW's, so it *might* be universally true. A few minutes soldering (inside the house, rather than under the dash) are all that is required, and you'll want to have some heat-shrink tubing on-hand for a top-notch installation. Though you could use wire nuts (blech) or crimp-butt connectors (ok). All the wire colors happened to match-up to my Kenwood, a nice plus.

This is a great help. However, while intuitively, one would expect to match color for color, that wasn't the case with my BMW. That said, as soon as I called Crutchfield tech support, they knew what the problem was and gave me the fix. Thanks, Steve

1995 BMW 318TI

The plug worked, as far as, the radio powered up and all the functions worked before I tried to put it in the dash. However, with my type of car, the BMW 318 ti, there was not enough space for the large harness plug to fit in the dash behind the radio. I could not push the radio all the way in. I ended up cutting the plug off, but I used it to match up to the wires and crimped them directly to the radio wires.

1989 BMW 525I
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We purchased this item to install our new cd player into our 1989 BMW but found out that it did not work for us. We found out that the factory radio had pre 17-pin connectors (wires) attached to it. The plug is meant for BMW cars from years 1990 to 2002. I went on the Internet and found out which wires from the car go with the wires that lead up to the radio. I simply used the connector that came with the new radio and cut the wires from the car then matched them up with bullet connectors. The cd player works great without any additional things to buy. I sent back the wire harness to Crutchfield.

Worked great easy to install. I put it in a 2000 BMW 323I and you should note that you need to hook the blue wire to the blue and white amp turn on wire not the blue auto antenna lead. I put in a Clarion DXZ785usb

Works great, all colors match up ALMOST perfectly. But not exactly. The only problem I had was with the stereo harness which I had to pull some clips off of to get this to fit. All in all it works great though.

Worked great. Colors matched well. I had some extra wires on the receiver that were not used, but I simply cut them off. If I had to do it over I would have shortened the wires on this harness so I did not have to stuff that much wire into the dash.

You'll need to be able to either crimp or solder about 10-15 wires between the two plugs but every wire color was correct so matching up the wires was a breeze. This really helped installation a LOT. I shudder to think of trying to cut the factory harness plug off and solder all of those wires... thanks Crutchfield!

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.
