Very simple install - but 2 of the 4 connectors I used failed to work. Upon trying to snap the plugs in, one of the wires pushed out rendering the plug useless. I tried to reseat but that didn't work. Disappointing as a 5 second job turned into a 10 minute splice fix.

Pros: intended purpose is good

Cons: appear to be cheaply made

i am right in the middle of replacing all 4 speakers in my ford f250 and felt I needed to stop and get on my computer so no one else needs to go thru this anguish . you would think with such a simple adapter , " what could go wrong" . the black wire on 2 of the 3 plugs gets pushed out when you plug them together , and usually there is a small lock tab on the metal pin . but not on these . if you make the mistake of ordering these and cannot return them , or like me don't want to waste the time , make sure you hold the black wire with a pair of long nose pliers and push on them when pushing the plug together .

Pigtail adapters

Written by: Gerald from Spring, Texas on July 25, 2014

First time trying to install my new speakers on my 1999 Ford F150. The pig tail adapter connection failed to do the job intended. Fit was poor and terminal ends were different than what was on the trucks original size. Connection never snapped into place. Attempting to make it work resulted in the wires sliding out of the connection. Then was unable to make the wires lock back into place again inside the connector. Poor design.

Pros:

Cons: Adapter would not fit into the plug in on my truck. Pushed out the wiring connector from the adapter. No longer able to get the wiring ends to snap back into place inside the connector. This connection is useless. Will have to solder connection now.

Got the wire adapters free with a speaker purchase which was awesome, but honestly I would have bought them any way as I do not like hacking up my oem wiring. Installation was a bit annoying as the plug to connect to the oem wires was not the best. The pins inside the metra adapter wanted to pop out of the back of the plug. So to fix that I wrapped the metra adapter with electrical tape from the connector down to the wires to hold it all together. In the end Im glad that I did not pay money for them, but for the price of free its hard to be to angry.

Pros: Glad I did not have to cut oem wire harness Free! free! free! Who doesn't like free

Cons: Wires want to come out of the connector. Annoying..........yes, end of the world.........no.

Cons: They did not fit properly on the front speakers.

I replaced all four door speakers in my truck. These were provided by Crutchfield at no charge. Plugging them into the factory connector took a bit of force. Other than that they work great. Also I am not sure about other Ford trucks but on mine these added about six inches to the wiring harness which allowed them to get caught in the power window regulator. Be sure to secure them out of the way before putting the door panel back on.

I was able to swap out 4 stock speakers in a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer in less than 2 hours. So easy and straight forward instructions.

Pros: Push on clips at the end of the wires are sized to fit the + and - on the speakers so you can't make a mistake of plugging them in incorrectly.

Cons: Wires are a tad long. Could be shortened by about 2". This isn't really a "con". It might be done for installations on other vehicles.

A perfect fit when I upgraded the speakers in a 2000 Ford Ranger. The only downside is the female disconnects are too small for Rockford Fosgate speakers, so I had to trim them off and put on larger ones. I knew that was the case before I started the job, thanks to the product description provided by Crutchfield. A quick fix for very little money. They did snap right into the existing wiring harnesses in the truck making the speaker swap a breeze.

Pros: Perfect fit for the existing wiring harnesses.

Cons: Had to replace the female disconnects with larger ones to fit the Rockford Fosgate speakers I used.

Fortunately Crutchfield included these wire adapters for me to install my new speakers into my 2004 F250. Ford in their infinite wisdom use proprietary (i.e. non-standard) plugs for the speaker wires, requiring the installer to cut the plug off and solder blade connectors to make it standard, to fit new speakers. I didn't have to do this thanks to these wire adapters. It saved a lot of time for my installation. Thanks Crutchfield!

Ok, I had 4 of these packs for a 2004 Ford F-250. They did fit ok. However, one of the pins (it is a special Molex connector) backed out of the pin retaining device. Turns out the plastic retaining device is cheaply made and sometimes fails. This SHOULD be tested somehow by a quality control tech at the manufacturer. And I also see that I am not the only reviewer to experience this.

Pros:

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speaker wiring adapters are very cheaply made and didn't fit on my factory speaker wiring harness very well. When I tried to plug the adapter into the factory harness it pushed both pins out through the connector on the adapter on all 4 speakers, and I was being slow and gentle trying to prevent that from happening after the first one popped both pins out. I ended up having to cut the connectors off and hard wire the adapter to the existing wiring harness to get them to work. Was not impressed at all by these adapters.

Pros:

Cons: cheaply made, pins pop out the back side of the connector when you try to plug them into the factory harness.

Reason for my order... upgrading my sister's car with what I have & it beats cutting, stripping, twisting, soldering, & either heat shrink or electrical tape insulation. These things fit great onto the little plug on the in-door wiring harness... which on my truck isn't hooked up to anything because it doesn't have premium sound, so I wound up clipping the factory speaker terminals (which I need to send pics of to Crutchfield) off the wires and soldering/shrinkwrapping the harnesses that came with my new speakers instead (saved these for another day, another vehicle). Very cool that they're provided free of charge by Crutchfield, but as far as being universal fit for modern-era Ford vehicles, they're not.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked great for my 2005 F-150, plugged in just as if OEM. The only issue I had was plugging other end into my speakers. Had to splice different clips on the ends. The ones that were on there didn't work with my speakers. But really a non-issue.

Metra 71-048 Speaker Wiring Adapters

2000 Ford Focus ZX3

I used these for installing some Pioneer 6x8 4-way speakers in my 2000 Ford Focus ZX3. They worked great, not a single problem. The only complaint I could have is that it left a lot of extra speaker wire dangling around which can cause rattles or interfere with the windows. Of course you can always tape or tie it down. Great product!

This equipment made swapping my old speakers really easy. Snap the harness into the factory wiring, push the leads onto the new speakers and you're ready to go. Thanks Crutchfield for including this for free - and your directions and diagrams were perfect!

These sell themselves! Aside from making sure you tie strap the excess wiring so your window regulators don't tangle or make sound! easy! easy! EASY! thats all i can say about these!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Thanks to Crutchfield for including these Ford Wire Harnesses! Made the installion of the speakers extremely easy. I was impressed that the end of the harness that connected to the existing connector had all the right stuff for locking the two connectors together. I had one very minor problem which for me was easy to fix. I replaced all four of my speakers in my truck. Two of the harnesses needed some attention. On the end that connected to the speaker, the larger of the two connections were very lose on two out of the four harnesses. I just took some channel locks and squeesed the connectors until they made a tight fit on the speaker. Like I said, that was a very minor problem and easy to fix. Great job Crutchfield and keep up the good work. This was my second dealings with you, bought a radio on my first dealing, and I will be back again. Enjoyed the friendly service I got from everyone I have come in contact with at Crutchfield so far.

1999 Ford F-350
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I hate to say "bad things" about these speaker harnesses - I'm sure they work fine - they just didn't fit my 1999 Ford F350. This is the 8th stereo I've installed from Crutchfield, and the first time the harnesses did not fit. I don't know if it was just a processing error or what - every other one I've gotten has worked fine (and these harnesses and the way they make the install so easy is the major reason I get stuff from Crutchfield). Anyway - I think this was just one of those "blips" that happen from time to time.
