Perfect fit for my application. 2001 VW Jetta with monsoon system. Plug and play is very convenient.

Pros: No modification/splicing necessary

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I loved how easy this harness was to use. All you have to do is plug the negative wire into the negative terminal and the positive into the positive terminal. It makes the job so much smoother and was a perfect fit for my speaker connector. Rather than trying to spend the time manually wiring your speaker wires together, go ahead and spend a few extra dollars on these and make the process that much easier.

Pros: Easy to use, self-explanatory, and perfect length.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This harness made installation much easier as I did not have to splice it into the wiring. I did still have to splice the speaker wires themselves together from four to two. The only improvement I can think of would be to make the harness do that installation will be completely plug and play.

Pros: Simple plug and play install on the speaker end.

Cons: Still had to splice speaker wires on the car side to make it work.

1 connector the wrong size

Written by: daveb from portland,or on November 12, 2013

2001 Volkswagen Beetle
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Its a good idea, just needs a tweak and it would be great. The negative (smaller) terminal on both the connectors they gave were too large. Putting them onto the speaker they would fall right off under their own weight. Had to crimp them down with a large pliers while being careful not to mess up the plastic sleeve. This ineviteably made them a bit too tight, and required playing back and forth a minute to get it right. Not the worst thing in in the world, and saved the OEM connector. I cant help but thinking it would just be less time to crimp on a new connector then use these though.

Pros: keeps oem connector

Cons: doesnt fit negative terminal and needs manual adjustment to work.

Kinda Sucked

Written by: Busted Speakers from maryland on October 12, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These adapters may work for some installations, but for the VW component system, they do NOT power the satellite tweeter. VW uses the 2 of the 4 conductors in the terminal for the speaker input and the other two to power the tap to the tweeter. I had to jumper the spare pins in the adapter to get the tweeters to work.

Pros: Free - you need the VW connector to get the component woofer to work.

Cons: Does not power the tweeter on a VW - need to splice or jumper the unused terminals.

2009 Volkswagen Jetta
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These came free with my purchase of some Alpine speakers. I definitely liked not having to cut my factory harness, but the connector terminal for the negative speaker lead was so loose on all 4 of these I used that I had to crimp it a little with pliers to get it to stay snugly. The positive plug was fine, so I am not sure why the other one was so loose.

Fix the problem and these will be perfect.

Pros: Genuine VW plug/harness used, just enough length to reach from plug to speaker, plug & play (no wire swapping).

Cons: Negative terminal plug cheap and loose. Plastic covers popped off the speaker-end terminals sometimes making them a bit difficult to attach sometimes.

Work exactly as advertised. Due to the construction of my Crescendo midbass drivers I am not able to use the spade connectors, but that is only a matter of cutting and stripping the ends. The fit with the factory harness is perfect.

Pros: Perfect fit to factory harness, likely a perfect fit to 99%+ of the speakers on the market.

Cons: None.

probably great if I didnt want to keep the tweets

Written by: Jeremy H from Portland, OR on June 6, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Factory speakers use a coil and a capacitor as a cross over to the tweeters. I wanted to keep this, and ended up cutting the connector, coil, and cap out of the old speakers, I then wired to the ground and the 3rd wire as these adapters for the new speakers. Worked like a charm, not sure why they dont just make an adapter with a cap and a coil as a built in cross over.

Pros: free

Cons: not so usefull as a direct plug in part, OK for parts.

Speaker Wiring Harnesses

Written by: caraddict from Vasking Ridge, NJ on February 17, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Incomplete and unusable. The harness will only work if you are installing a full range (coaxial, etc) speaker. It only has 2 wires feeding the speaker; the OE design 4 wires with the second 2 wires going to the tweeters. I had to cut off the factory plug and run those 2 outputs to an aftermarket crossover, then run new sire to the speaker and a second wire going to the tweeter high in the door. Unless you are just installing coaxial speakers, dbon't bother buying this harness.

Pros: Useless purchase for the Passat, although it might fit other VWs if you just want to drive a single speaker in the door

Cons: Consider your installtion carefully, but for my application It is unusable

Easily connects to factory fitting but the narrow (-?) fitting was loose on the speaker prongs of the Pioneers that I bought (TS-G1644R & TS-G1643R). I took pliers and squeezed fitting a little before slipping onto prong and it now holds tight. Easy fix.

Pros: Attaches to factory hardware easily

This cable did indeed fit the factory connector in my 2001 Beetle but it would be
really nice to have supplied some sticky-back foam to wrap the connector in to
keep it from rattling against the door and panel. The original speaker has the
connector built into the spacer and there is no extra slack in the wiring
harness. I modified the new spacers and epoxied the new harness connectors
to them to resemble the original configuration.

Features

Crutchfield Speaker Harness: Crutchfield speaker harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory speaker plugs when replacing your factory speakers with aftermarket car speakers. The Crutchfield speaker harness features two female quick-slide connectors on one end to attach directly to your new aftermarket car speakers & a proprietary Molex connector on the other end that connects to your vehicle's factory speaker plug.

Quick-Slide Connectors: The Crutchfield speaker harness is equipped with a large (positive) & small (negative) female quick-slide terminal. These quick-slide terminals fit directly onto most aftermarket car stereo speaker terminals (slight crimping may be required). In rare cases that the quick-slide terminals do not fit your car speaker terminals, you will need to solder the Crutchfield speaker harness to your aftermarket speaker's terminals or replace the quick-slide connectors on the Crutchfield speaker harness with the correct size terminal.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Quick-Slide Terminal Measurements: The positive female quick-slide terminal measures 0.205" (inner width), while the negative female quick-slide terminal measures 0.115" (inner width).

1 question already asked

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This speaker harness is not "made" by Crutchfield, it is made by Metra. They no longer actually offer the part however, and don't have a current item/model number for the part. It looks like we have them, simply because we had a large stock and have not sold out of them over time. There's a good chance that we may be one of the only solutions for getting their hands on this piece. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Sep 10, 2014 ]  Staff
