Metra 82-5500 Speaker Mounting Brackets

Written By Rixsky, Manassas, VA on Thursday, October 02, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked well to install some 4-inch Kickers into the dash of an '87 Ford Ranger for my son. Only issues were: 1. make sure you align (and ideally mark final orientation with a pencil or marker) of brackets *before* installing the speakers onto the brackets. The holes are Not evenly spaced (by design), so I had to remove a speaker and flip the bracket over, to get it to fit on the first one. 2. the little spring steel clips that come with the bracket are pretty worthless for mounting the speaker to the bracktet. They snap if you try to pre-squeeze them to make it easier for the provided sheet metal screws to go it. Highly recommend going out and just getting getting some regular machine screws and nylon insert lock nuts for mounting the speakers to the brackets.

Pros: Actually provide a way to mount commercially available (and good quality) 4-hole speakers into the goofy 3-hole Ford dash layout on a 27 year old truck.

Cons: Screw clips are worthless, and need to pay close attention to real required hole alignment/fit, before getting too far ahead.

The hole was not big enough for the diamond audio hex driver and the 4 screw holes did not line up with the 4 holes on the driver either. The hardware that came with it only had enough screws and screw clips for 6 of the 8 holes. I didn't try to see if it fit in the car.
