Metra 82-7802C

Metra's 82-7802C brackets will allow you to install select 6-1/2"" speakers in the factory speaker openings of select 1998-91 Honda CRX models. Please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to confirm that these adapters are compatible with your vehicle. Warranty: 60 days.

Important Note: Some 6-1/2" speakers use a larger frame and require a larger cutout. We call these 6-3/4" speakers, and they won't fit in this bracket. This bracket will only work with speakers that require a cutout diameter of 5-1/8" or less.

Plastic now?

Written by: JonGP3 from Texas on November 4, 2015

1988 Honda CRX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The picture shows metal brackets but I received plastic. I'm honestly glad they were plastic I had planed to use the metal ones as templates to build a plastic one. Plastic is easier to work with as I had to widen the hole to fit my Polk db651 speakers. I also had to mount them on the back of the bracket as if you front mount them the tweeter would hit the speaker grill.

Pros: Easy to work with plastic. Didn't have to trim to make them fit. Did have to trim the hole to make 6" 3/4 speakers work but I expected that.

Cons: Both sides are not the same texture. Because they cut the bracket out of the same template for each side one side is textured and the other side is smooth. If you don't plan to put your speaker grills back on that could be a problem as they will look weird.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great fit and price for my 91 crx rear speakers. The only reason i gave it four stars is because when installed properly one side is textured and the other is not. This won't be a big deal for most people that have rear interior, but seeing as how mine is stripped.. It looks a little off.

Pros: Good fit Great price

Cons: Passenger side is smooth and driver side is textured

I'm not meaning to look a gift horse in the mouth - these pieces are worth every penny I paid for them and then some. I just wish they had been made out of plastic that was a smidge thicker and less flexible. But thank you for including them - as I mentioned, even though someone had previously installed aftermarket speakers in this car, the pieces in it were not quite the right size for these 6 3/4" speakers, and based on your profit margin for this piece, I don't fault you for using the least expensive materials possible. These will probably make excellent templates for the bits I plan to make out of plywood...

Pros: Free and functional (typically you would have to choose between the two).

Cons: They were a bit flimsy. The in which car I was installing them had some light stamped steel pieces almost identical (but for a smaller speaker), and these are a flexible plastic.

Mounting the speakers to these adapters proved to be quite difficult. The instructions are very vague, and were pretty much useless. I also called tech support, and got no more from them than I did from the instructions. I had to use what is referred to as the speed clip. Ironically there is absolutely no speed in using these whatsoever. I spent well over an hour just trying to mount the speaker to the adapter. One set of instructions said mount the speaker behind the adapter, and the other set said to mount the speaker in front of the adapter. I had to drill the hole wider in the speed clip in order to thread the screw into it. Luckily I am somewhat mechanically inclined. If you're not, I caution you on trying to do this yourself. Crutchfield needs more specific instructions related to the use of speed clips.

Works fine with a simple mod

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These don't 'exactly' line up with the polk speakers I bought (db 651), as they are slightly
larger than the speakers. This meant that the small metal speed fasteners used to
secure the speaker to the bracket were not that secure (as they were only partially
contacting the bracket itself in order to fit all the way around). This would not be a
problem except the speaker MUST go onto the back of the bracket (or the grill won't fit
over it), and the speaker holes themselves are not threaded and are slightly larger than
the screw they supply, so there is no way to 'tighten' them to anything. I fixed this by
installing a couple of bolts so the speaker wouldn't back off the screws through vibration.
Although this works, it is a poor design, and I am not pleased at the amount of 'touching'
that cannot be avoided between the attachment points and the speaker itself (even with
the rubber gasket in place as protection). I feel like it may be slightly dampening the
sound. However, the cutout 'technically' does the job, and although it took me a while to
figure out how to adequately install the first speaker, the second went a lot faster.
