Factory Tools - made to fit like a GLOVE

Written By Holland, Nevada on Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The only way I know to remove a FORD stereo - fits and works like a GLOVE!

Pros: Free with my stereo purchase - better pricing than AMazoo since it was tossed in with the stereo purchase

Cons: ...too bad you need them

Simple tool for the job

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice to have this product supplied for free with the purchase. Saves me from having to make a special trip to the parts tore for it.

Pros: Easily releases the factory Ford radio.

Cons: My Mercury Grand Marquis radio is mounted on an angle. Therefore the tools release the radio but aren't locked in enough to pull the radio out of the mount.

worked

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked perfectly. It only took a couple of seconds to pop out my old head unit. I don't understand the difficulty some people have with these things. RTFM maybe?

Pros: Nice, shiny, silver color. Easy to use.

Cons: Only had one use, now they sit in the drawer with the other two sets I have. These DO conduct electricity. DO NOT insert these into electrical outlets.

terrible

Written By Sloth, New Hampshire on Thursday, April 30, 2015

these tools are said to aid an easy removal of the POS ford factory radio, they did no such thing. they are indeed neccesary however four not two. I had to rip out my factory radio face plate(not a detachable face) because you need four of these tools in at the same time. maybe it is just my 2001 mazda tribute (if you know about cars you will know ford owned mazda during this period) but these tools are basically useless without al four as you have to physically break off the radio and pry it out without them. Before Buying! Look At Your Stereo, Look For Two Small Holes About 2 Inches Vertical Of Each Other. Then Look Above And Below Them For Another Set, If There Are Four Sets Of Two Holes (16 Holes Total) Then You Need Four Tools.

Pros: worked okay with the flimsy ford clips however useless without the correct amount

Cons: you could use any piece of metal to push into the holes to release the clips, don't buy unless free

Just the right tool

Didn't Work

Written By Glenn, Florida on Sunday, January 18, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The one's I received were not U shaped but were rounded at the bottom and inexplicably angled into a V shape. Not sure why Crutchfield sent me these as part of the install kit when every other picture I've seen of these tools shows them as a true U shape with the ends being parallel - no bending necessary. I had to apply a fair amount of pressure to squeeze the ends together to get them to line up with the holes on either side of the receiver in my 2001 Mazda Protege. I had trouble getting them to lock in place on the right side and they ultimately came out when trying to carefully wiggle the radio out. Being under the tension they were, they sprung forcibly apart back to their V shape scratching the area below the radio in the process. NOT HAPPY! They would not engage anything on the right side no matter what I tried to get them to click into place. Not sure now how to get the receiver out without taking apart many pieces surrounding the radio.

Pros: Great, I assume if they line up as they should.

Cons: Did not work as advertised. Hard to use if you get the V shaped variety.

Crutchfield response on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 The important thing is that the DIN tools are the right shape to fit into the openings on your stereo. There's a trick to using DIN tools. Regardless of the shape or style of tool, you need to insert the tool and press it against the side of the radio. That means pulling the DIN tool on the left toward the steering wheel and the one on the right toward the passenger's door. This will release the clips holding the radio in place. While maintaining that pressure, pull the DIN tools (and the stereo) toward yourself to remove the stereo. Sometimes one side releases before the other. In that case, you can wedge something in place to hold the released side while you focus on the other side.
