Tight squeeze but works great

Written by: Sea-air-uh from West Virginia on June 8, 2016

1999 Chevrolet Suburban
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's awesome to have storage instead of that CD player. For some reason the front faceplate comes off of this? No idea why, but it's not an issue once the dash bezel is back on. And it's a pain to slid this in. The fit is tight, and the bottom hit on part of my kick panel, but once I wiggled this around to get it in it was all good. Make sure you don't need to take this out once you put it in, because it's probably not coming out without braking

Pros: Handy to have, looks ok

Cons: Tight fit, holes in the back should be optional

Worked perfect

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very, very tight fit - I called the support phone number because I thought for sure it was the wrong piece. However, the gentleman on the phone assured me that it would fit, so we manhandled it into place finally. We did cover the holes in the back of the pocket so things wouldn't fall through the back. I love having a spot for my phone and other assorted stuff, and it looks like it is original to the truck. As others have noted, the front face plate is flimsy and wants to come off, but does snap back into place pretty easily. Overall, I love it!

Pros: Great spot for phone, etc; looks original

Cons: Hard to get into place.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fairly stiff. Takes a lot of pressure to get it to snap in. But fits nice. Great little storage cubby.

Pros: Fits. Great place to put cell phone. Looks factory.

Cons: Little holes in the back. I don't put anything small enough that might fall through. But I'm sure change would. Or other small items.

Works in a 2001 Tahoe to delete factory tape player

Written by: Joe231 from eagle river, AK on March 5, 2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in my 2001 Tahoe to delete the factory tape player. Very easy to install and adds a much needed storage pocket.

Pros: Easy to install, fits well

Cons: Shiny plastic looks cheap, textured plastic would be much better

Its a good way to fill a hole in your dash

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This filled the hole in my dash when I removed the remote CD player. It is useful for holding small objects, but not real tiny ones.

Pros: Fit was good.

Cons: The little trim piece on the front didn't want to stay in place completely until dash was reinstalled.

Really had to muscle that pocket into the pre-existing space. (pushed very hard) And the little front closure flap was quite flimsy. That being said, it worked. Never coming out tough.

Pros: Free.

Cons: Tight fit.

The little cubby that could

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

With the elimination of the CD player this little cubby/storage fills in nicely, besides what else are you gonna put in the empty hole that works this well for under $15?

Pros: Price, fits perfectly, easy to install

Cons: The six slots/holes in the cubby seem a little strange and unnecessary but are easily covered with some electrical tape for a sealed storage area.

Installed in a '02 Suburban

Written by: Tony from Chicago, Illinois on January 30, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I took a gamble and bought this. It states it won't fit my car but it fit it perfectly a 02 Suburban. It replaced the tape deck player. One thing that happened was that my music stopped playing when I disconnected the tape player. I figured it was just making a circuit. I called tech but they didn't have an answer for me. I figured out that if you connect the 2 outside wires on the connector that plugged into the tape deck it completed the circuit and the music came back on. In my car it was orange and pink IIRC. I had alot of wires going thru my head on the install.

Pros: Perfect fit holesin the back if you want to run wiring through.

Cons: None,, if you don't plany on running wiring through the holes just tape them up before you install it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

it worked as replacing the stock CD player

Pros: the pros on this would be that an exact fit although a bit tough to get in and it has slotted holes in the back so you can run wiring through from your stereo plastic is soft so you can easily make the hole bigger if necessary

Cons: I guess the cons would be that if you're using this as a trade for small items they would fall through in the back not exactly sure what the front little flimsy pieces for it is removable I took mine off and also is a very very tight fit had to argue with it a bit to get it in but did work

I had this installed to replace where my cd receiver was in my stock stereo system. Had a new Pioneer stereo installed and love the extra storage space this provides. I use it to store the remote, sunglasses, business cards, whatever you need.

Pros: Easy to install, lots of storage

Cons: none

2002 Chevrolet Tahoe
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not much to say here. If you have a 00-02 Tahoe that came with a tape deck, then this product will replace it and give you a cubby for storage. Crutchfield says this item is not compatible but it is. And if you purchase it with other qualifying items, then you get a 50% discount.

Pros: It does what it says. Provides additional storage room.

Cons: Almost didn't purchase it from Crutchfield because it says it is not compatible with my 02 Tahoe. Not true.

Crutchfield response on June 10, 2014 According to the manufacturer, that pocket isn't listed as fitting the 2002 Tahoe. They only list it fitting up to the 2000 model. We're very happy to hear that Dan found it to be an easy solution!

We installed an after market stereo and had this factory CD player taking up space.now we have a cubby hole where that used to be.and we love it.

Pros: Looks great.

Cons: Was very hard to push in place, like it was a bit to big.hope I never have to take it out as I will have to cut it.

This kit was a perfect fit for my Suburban! Installation was very quick and easy, plus it looks great. This pocket is really handy for my cell phone, flash drives, and mp3 player. I also drilled a hole in the back of it and routed my usb input through it. Really does make most of that otherwise wasted space.

Pros: Looks great, very handy, easy to install, makes use of wasted space

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Actually didn't really need this. I wasn't sure what is was for until I got it. I already have the factory pocket where a cd player or cassette player would go. The factory one has some kind of soft lining on it, and the replacement is just plain plastic. That is why it lost a star. Otherwise, I never used it.
