bracket is really bad, too universal and very loose around head unit.

Pros: It did eventually fit after modification that was not shown.

Cons: -vague install instructions, even on factory website for this application. -In fact , what was printed ended up being wrong, you need to remount to the 4 front mounting tabs in the factory holes , also take off all the head unit brackets on the Blaupunkt -Next, break off the 2 back plastic bracket tabs so it will fit in the hole, break off the lower tabs that keep the bracket from mounting flush , then trial fit to make it sit flush in the factory trim before you reattach the face plate.

Only gave it 2 stars because I had to go and purchase a 8x4mm screw, cut the head off and use nuts and washers to attach to the stereo to get it to stay in the dash. I was only able to use the front mounting faceplate. Instructions were lousy, my vehicle was not even mentioned. Also had to use a grinder to shave off a portion of the sleeve front so it would fit in the faceplate. Should have taken me 20 minutes to install, took 2 hours and additional hardware.

Written by: ttab from Barnegat, NJ on April 30, 2016

2011 Ford E Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty simple ... had a little help from Crutchfield support just to be sure ... the 4 mounting screws supplied to hold the bracket to the chassis were too short.. And are the wrong diameter and thread. The originasl are metric and the kit supplies U.S. thread screws. The supplied and necessary shims (4) would be easier to install if they has a self stick surface. Mounting in the Econoline requires the shims and longer and proper thread screws than those supplied.

Pros: fairly simple

Cons: shims should have self stick to hold in place when installing ... Screws to mount are too short and are a different diameter and thread than the originals.

This did fit, after some modifications. The instructions said to use spacers that caused the screws to be too short. Additionally, some tabs interfered with metal inside the dash and had to be torn off.

Pros: It eventually worked.

Cons: I had to ignore the instructions and modify the part to make it fit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The dash kit fits decently, however, the included instructions for my vehicle (2012 Ford F-250) were not correct. I ended fitting it myself, without the use of the manufacturer instructions and only had to trim off the back "U-hook" looking brackets. Once trimmed and in the dash, the top two screws line up perfectly, but the mounting pegs at the bottom create a separation the the included spacers aren't the right size for. Overall, it works, it looks decent, but is it truly custom? No. I don't think so. there was way too much modification needed to make this vehicle specific dash kit fit perfectly to call it vehicle specific.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Metra Dash Kit works great and is easy to install ... once the 4 large mounting tabs are cut-off. The tabs only work for 4 of the many Ford models. The rest require that the tabs be cut-off. Doing so was not an easy task whatsoever! This made the receiver installation project difficult because it required a table vise and hack saw to be able to cut the tabs flush enough to the surface of the brackets allow the unit to slide into the dash opening. There should be an easier way to remove the tabs or optional side brackets without the rear tabs. If I hadn't had the table vise and hacksaw, I would have not been able to install this kit. Most of the auto in-dash products sold by Crutchfield boast not needing any special tools but this kit is a major exception and very disappointing!

Pros: Fits well Simple instructions.

Cons: Mounting tabs in back very difficult to remove

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The face plate of this kit allows the head unit to fit flush with the face plate at the top of the radio, but has a 1/16 offset at the bottom of the head unit. Therefore, the head unit is at a slight angle inside the face plate making it not flush. I would buy another brand of kit.

Pros: None

Cons: Cheap plastic and not a flush fit allowed by design.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It is simply a gap filler for your dash. It does what it sets out to do. One small complaint is there is a seam in the front, center of the top edge that is somewhat noticeable. I had to install it on my head unit twice (my fault) because I didn't notice I needed to cut the back mounting brackets off which was difficult to do until I got my wire cutter out and snipped them off. The bracket seems sturdy and the holes lined up like they should. Another complaint is that it does not sit quite flush with the dash. It needs to be a bit thicker on top or some kind of shim in the top screws because it sits back a small amount, just enough to leave a small gap. There was spacers included I will need to open my dash back up and see if I can insert them.

Pros: It works

Cons: Does not mount flush with the dash. I will need to open it back up and see if I can get the spacers to work. The back brackets should be easier to cut off/remove or have the option to buy one without them.

This Metra adapter does fit in the F150 if you can cut the rear tabs. I did so with some side cutters that didn't do a great job, so I ended up feeding the radio with attached bracket through the bottom of the dash opening (HVAC controls area). I also did not need the spacers that the instructions said to add to the front tabs.

Pros: Looks nice installed

Cons: Hard to cut the rear tabs good enough

Not a fan of this. I'm kind of disappointed with this mess. Extensive grinding was required around the perimeter to fit my Kenwood double din head unit and to top it all off it sticks out about 3/8 inch in my super duty ford truck. Made in usa???? Hah no wonder their jobs are shipped overseas! Look elsewhere if there is any other options.

Pros: None that I can think of. Unnecessarily aggravating.

Cons: This junk used to be free with purchase, now they make you pay for this lousy engineered stuff. What up Crutchfield?

This is a very good product. It was easy to use, honestly, I don't know how good the instructions were because I didn't read them. It fit perfectly in my dash and made a very clean install.

Pros: Finished product looks great!

Cons: A few extra steps are needed using the supplied spacers behind the mounting holes to level the mount up with the dash panel and cutting off the rear mounting brackets (which I did glance and see in the instructions), but that's all part of using a "universal" kit.

2005 Ford F-150
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this installation kit to install a Double Din head unit in my 05 F150 to replace the factory unit. The kit was relatively easy enough to assemble. I did not need the spacers behind the 4 mounting holes as the instructions indicated that I would and when I went to install the screws into the side of the stereo, none of the holes would line up properly with the holes on the installation kit. There is a ridge on the back edge of the kit that prevented the stereo from seating properly into the opening of the kit. With the help of a Dremel tool, I was able to remove the ridge to allow the stereo to seat properly, thereby allowing the screw holes to line up. With the exception of this modification, it is a decent kit. If you have a little bit of time and ingenuity, you can make it work. Not quite the plug and play that I would have expected.

Pros: Easy to assemble, inexpensive

Cons: Modifications necessary to provide better fitment of the stereo.

Opening in the faceplate is too large for Pioneer double din radios. Installed gasket pieces to sides of radio for tight fit and to keep radio centered on faceplate. Four of the eight side mount screw holes did not align up with the mounting holes in radio. Had to file out 4 holes to place screws in. Haven't installed it in my 2008 Ford F-150 truck yet. Don' know if there will be more challenges. Overall this product does not fit good without doing modifications. Maybe this is why they include them for free with a radio purchase.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The finished product looks awesome. With that being said, there were a few issues. The instructions were, well, let's say vague. Vague should cover it in a PC sort of a way. If you are using it for a vehicle that isn't listed in the instructions be prepared to get a little creative and do some thinking. I eventually had to put the old radio next to the new one to figure out how to get it mounted properly. The other issue was that the plastic on the bracket is heavy and thick. Now this is a good thing because it makes it stronger. The bad thing about it is the mounting screws that came with the radio weren't long enough to get thru the thickness of plastic. A quick trip to the hardware store solved the issue but it was just one more thing that needed to be improvised.

Pros: Looks awesome and is good heavy gage plastic.

Cons: The instructions are useless. The plastic may be too thick for the mounting screws provided with your radio.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As others have mentioned in their reviews, this product gets the job done and looks nice, but the instructions are a little vague in telling you that you might need to modify the side mounting brackets in order to get the assembly to fit into your dash. We installed into a 2009 Ford Fusion and couldn't figure out how to get stereo and dash kit to fit when all assembled. We had a professional finally do the install and he explained as others have mentioned that you have to trim the tabs off on the side brackets. Metra should mention something in their instructions for first time installers that there may need to be some modification if it's not a drop in fit for your vehicle!

Pros: Looks nice and performs as you would expect it to.

Cons: Could use a little more clarity in the instructions about modifying the bracket to fit different vehicles.

End result looks great. I had to realign the radio a few times to make all the edges line up correctly and look acceptable (I'm OCD) with the factory trim, but the end result looks great! Watch the "spacers" if you must use them, they may fall off during the last phase of the install. I'm just saying. Haha.

Pros: Nice look. Does what it is supposed to do. Looks great in my 2004 F150.

Cons: It's not as simple as some people seem to want it to be. You have to be patient and work with it a little to make it perfect.

Used this with a Kenwood DDX492 installation in a 2007 Ford F150. The end product looks like it came from the factory and fits perfectly. The instructions were a little vague for my application and took a few minutes to figure it out, but when I did, the install was a breeze. The part that was not clear is you don't use the cage or the front trim that comes with the receiver and you need to screw this bracket directly into the sides of the receiver.

Pros: Perfect fit and works for my F150!

Cons: Instructions not clear, very generic for every application.

Fit was perfect to factory mounts. Only downside was for my vehicle I had to cut off the rear mounting tabs. Literally used a hacksaw then filed it down smooth.

Pros: Easy install

Cons: Have to cut off back tabs.

This kit made my job job about 3 times longer than it should take. The side pieces needed some serious modification for them to fit flush against the sides of my Blaupunkt double din and yhe front top panel is slightly too thin to fit flush the way the factory stereo looked...

Pros: It was free and there is no way i could have completed insrallation without it.

Cons: It didnt fut the way it should and required modification.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the second one of this exact install kit I own. The first one I got from a local tag store when I bought my first head unit. I had resold it and purchased my new head unit which came with this kit. As other reviewers have stated, the instructions are lacking. They are vague and not totally correct. It said I needed spacers, which I knew I didn't from the previous install. You do have to slice off the rear mounting tabs for the 04 F150 XLT. Mounting holes could be aligned better. I had to further mod the trim plate to flush my new head unit to the dash. This may be an issue with the design of my head unit? Take your time when assembling this kit. The mounting tabs only go on one way to the face trim plate. I would of liked to see this with a smooth satin finish to match the interior of my F150 but not a big deal. 4 stars for the lacking detail in the instructions. Overall good product.

Pros: Simple, fits, free with my purchase.

Cons: Lacking instructions, textured trim

For the most part, this dash kit was exactly what we needed. It fit the stereo perfectly, but had mounting tabs on the back side of if that wouldn't allow the kit to go into the dash. They had to be cut off. The screws also weren't long enough to mount the kit to the dash, so we opted for self-tappers that we had on hand. But overall, good quality and the right fit for the truck and stereo.

Pros: Good quality, sturdy, fast shipping, good price.

Cons: Awkwardly placed mounting tabs, screws too short.

Shipped with purchase of Blaupunkt NJ 220. The frame fits the head unit, but the side brackets do not fit flush due to the design of the case and can not be used. Had to glue frame to receiver.

Pros: Good color match with receiver and installation looks original in Mercury Milan.

Cons: See above. Do not recommend for this receiver.

Not for 2011 F250SD

Written by: Voodooudo from Jacksonville, FL on September 28, 2014

Not a good fit. The bezel sits back from the dash faceplate enough to be a problem, looks cheesy. Had to make modifications to the side brackets to make it fit into the hole. Figured out how to get it to this point. Needs thicker spacers to set the bezel out further. Or better yet, just make one that actually fits so I don't have to go to all this trouble.

Pros: Gave me something to tinker with in the garage.

Cons: Eventually finished up.

I had to make this work for my deck. It is plastic and said to use the screws that came with my deck. Unfortunately since the plastic had to be so thick for strength I assume the screws were too short and I had to find some that would work. I would expect better from Crutchfield but it was free after all!

Pros: Fit my dash.

Cons: Plastic. Did not include correct screws. A slight reveal between the trim and the bottom of the deck.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was on backorder, so I had to wait for it. Once it arrived, the direction that came with it were pretty confusing, but a call to Crutchfield cleared everything up. Still required cutting the rear tabs off the bracket, and to get it to fit in the dash properly, it required using two of the four supplied spacers. Looks great now that it's in, but was the most frustrating part of the install (I installed a receiver, SiriusXM radio and steering wheel control adapter).

Pros: fits nicely once it's in.

Cons: Directions are poor, and it required cutting off the rear tabs, and a lot of dry-fitting, before the fit was right.

Overall it was a good, easy clean fit with my Pioneer AVH-X4500BT in my 07 F150. My only complaint really is the four tabs that take the scews to mount the deck. They are made out of plastic and if you don't need the spacers, but still have to tighten it down, they flex and look like they're are going to break. I wish they were beefier and allowed you to notch them out for depth fit or were thin but made from aluminium so that they could be tightened down as needed but are less likely to break. Overall, good fit though fortunately and great help from Crutchfield with the MasterSheet! You have to be an idiot not to be able to do most of the job. Wiring takes a little more care but doable with Crutchfield help.

Pros: Great fit

Cons: Four mounting tabs made of plastic

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The mounting bracket / faceplate trim fit my new head unit great, BUT the kit did not come with screws to attach it to the unit, just screws to mount the assembly into the dash, so I had to in search of some. Good thing they're cheap and fairly easy to find. PLUS I had to trim some un-needed tabs off the sides of the mounting bracket just so I could get the assembly into the dash, good thing it was plastic. The faceplate trim is a very shiny black, the finish in the dash area of my truck is matte, if I had more time, and patience, I would have painted it to match better, but the face of my new head unit is shiny black too, so it's a minor nag. It came free with my new head unit, so I guess I can't complain too much.

Pros: It was free.

Cons: No screws to attach it to the head unit. Extra un-needed tabs had to cut off the sides of the mounting bracket.

The kit looks like it is a factory product after it is installed. The installation was more difficult than I thought it would be, though. I found the instructions were poorly written. The instructions for my 2004 F150 consisted of two pages with many other pages for other vehicles. I am fairly experienced with electronics and packaging but have not installed many car receivers.

Cons: Directions were unclear...tabs should have more easly come off without cutters

This kit came close, but found myself sorely tempted to trim the opening a bit, to make it a more "perfect" fit...chose not to for fear of doing structural damage. It does the job, just not quite as clean as you would like.

This was super easy to install in my 2012 F250 SuperDuty. It fits nice and tight, with the black matching radio and bezel alike.

Pros: Perfect fit with the FORD bezel.

Cons: Suggest using dikes or similar heavier duty wire cutters to trim the rear mounting tabs off, rather than the utility knife shown in the instructions.

Metra 95-5812 Dash Kit

Written by: John H from Corpus Christi TX on November 29, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The worst part of the install, but eventually worked OK. The worst part was the directions said remove the 2 back tabs, but a nice little arrow poiting to them would have helped! I spent 3 hours working on this thing until I finally got up the nerve to cut off the two huge pieces off the back of the mount! They were not made to come off, so it took some heavy duty cutters. If your installing the radio in a F-150, (mine is an 08) go ahead and cut off what you think they are referring too as tabs! After that it slips right in and almost fits just right.Anyway about it, it sure beat installing a single DIN unit in my truck and eventually made my JVC look great in the dash.

Pros: Allows you to put a double din unit in the big hole in the dash of a F150.

Cons: Kinda cheap and poor instructions. Just do what looks right and it will work.

The picture should do a better job of showing what tabs need to be cut off for a 2007 F-150. Only 2 holes instead of the recommended 3 on each side would line up - hope this holds the unit secure.

Pros: Free - it came with the unit. It looks factory for my truck.

I had to make several mods to the bracket to fit my dash. The radio doesn't fill the center of this bracket so there is a 1/8 inch gap between the radio and the bezel. Also I had to do some shimming with washers to get the bezel to line up with the dash.

Pros: it holds the radio in place.

Cons: fit & finish is not good.

This kit does not fit the Pioneer AVH-3400BH very well. The best way to explain it is if there were a light source inside my dash there would be a lot of light leaking into my cab. There's at least a 1/16" gap all the way around this kit. Kind of makes the allure of buying from Crutchfield for the perks not so great.

It makes my AVH4300DVD installation look like it was installed by a professional. If the AVH4300DVD unit had Ford on it instead of Pioneer the installation would look factory.

Pros: It makes my AVH4300DVD installation look like it was installed by a professional.

Cons: Nothing much to say that is negative except I wish the adjustment slots were a little longer for some very fine tunning. I did my slots as I saw fit with a very small round file.
