Once I got it figured out with the vague instructions, and then cut the rear tabs off, it fit just fine. Tech support came up with that idea, wasn't in the instructions.
Pros: Fits good
Cons: Vague instructions.
Very good product
Pros: Followed directions fit nice
Good set up
Pros: Good product
After modifying the plate by removing the rear tabs it worked and fit perfectly.
Pros: Served it's purpose.
The face plate of this kit allows the head unit to fit flush with the face plate at the top of the radio, but has a 1/16 offset at the bottom of the head unit. Therefore, the head unit is at a slight angle inside the face plate making it not flush. I would buy another brand of kit.
Cons: Cheap plastic and not a flush fit allowed by design.
It is simply a gap filler for your dash. It does what it sets out to do. One small complaint is there is a seam in the front, center of the top edge that is somewhat noticeable. I had to install it on my head unit twice (my fault) because I didn't notice I needed to cut the back mounting brackets off which was difficult to do until I got my wire cutter out and snipped them off. The bracket seems sturdy and the holes lined up like they should. Another complaint is that it does not sit quite flush with the dash. It needs to be a bit thicker on top or some kind of shim in the top screws because it sits back a small amount, just enough to leave a small gap. There was spacers included I will need to open my dash back up and see if I can insert them.
Pros: It works
Cons: Does not mount flush with the dash. I will need to open it back up and see if I can get the spacers to work. The back brackets should be easier to cut off/remove or have the option to buy one without them.
Quality adapter. Following instruction made for a simple, professional looking install
Pros: Ease of install
The instructions told me not to remove the rear tabs. But I had to cut them off in order to get the stereo to fit into the dash.
Cons: Rear tabs hard to remove
Looks great. Can't even tell it's an aftermarket install
Pros: Simple to work with
This Metra adapter does fit in the F150 if you can cut the rear tabs. I did so with some side cutters that didn't do a great job, so I ended up feeding the radio with attached bracket through the bottom of the dash opening (HVAC controls area). I also did not need the spacers that the instructions said to add to the front tabs.
Pros: Looks nice installed
Cons: Hard to cut the rear tabs good enough
Not a fan of this. I'm kind of disappointed with this mess. Extensive grinding was required around the perimeter to fit my Kenwood double din head unit and to top it all off it sticks out about 3/8 inch in my super duty ford truck. Made in usa???? Hah no wonder their jobs are shipped overseas! Look elsewhere if there is any other options.
Pros: None that I can think of. Unnecessarily aggravating.
Cons: This junk used to be free with purchase, now they make you pay for this lousy engineered stuff. What up Crutchfield?Crutchfield response on October 14, 2015 After reading this review, our Vehicle Research team will reevaluate this installation kit. Due to several factors, we've had to adjust ways we offer installation gear and tools for mobile gear to our customers. We realize this is a change to previous offers, and we listen to all the feedback our customers provide. We'll certainly keep comments like these in mind as these offers continue to evolve.
I don't think this is the case for a Ford F250 super duty. I did some modifications to make it fit.
Cons: it did not fit perfect
This is a very good product. It was easy to use, honestly, I don't know how good the instructions were because I didn't read them. It fit perfectly in my dash and made a very clean install.
Pros: Finished product looks great!
Cons: A few extra steps are needed using the supplied spacers behind the mounting holes to level the mount up with the dash panel and cutting off the rear mounting brackets (which I did glance and see in the instructions), but that's all part of using a "universal" kit.
Easy to use and looks great too.
The instructions weren't very good
Pros: It is holding my deck in place well enough?
Cons: The instructions weren't very clear and the housing was molded inaccurate for the opening of the stock stereo but with some modification I got it to work
Fit perfectly. Looks OEM!
Had to trim back piece of the bracket. Doesn't fit otherwise. Looks good to anyone that gets into truck but because I installed it I see the issue. I had a friend look at it too and he agrees not much could be done. I would use again.
Pros: Looks good with some modifying not perfect. Most people wouldn't see an issue with it.
Cons: Most wouldn't notice it's not totally straight in my truck this is why they call it universal
Used this dash kit on a Kenwood Excelon DDX492. I installed it in a 2004 Ford F150 Lariat. Perfect fit with no problems.
Pros: Nice fit for my truck.
The dash kit fits the radio nicely but there is nothing in the instructions about removing the rear mounting tabs. They have to be removed to even get the radio in the dash.
Pros: ease of mounting on the radio
Cons: no mention of tab removal
Pros: Got the job done
Cons: Instructions were a little difficult to understand.
Directions are horrible. My suggestion is to read over them to get an overview, then throw them in the trash. Don't refer back to them. Use your intuition and common sense to get the best possible fit for your application. There will be some trial and error, but if you stick with it, eventually, it will fit great and look great.
Pros: End product looks great and fits great.
Cons: Directions are garbage. Will take some patience to get it installed perfectly.Crutchfield response on May 6, 2015 Remember, when you purchase from Crutchfield, you also get our free tech support service to help with any problem or question that comes up when installing or using that product - anything from installation and hook up, to setting the clock.
Had a bit of trouble putting it in place. Ended up breaking off a clip to fit it in place
Pros: Holds stereo just fine. Stable with no movement.
Cons: Broke a clip
This is the right tool for the right application. Made the install seamless and easy.
Pros: Exactly what I needed
I bought this installation kit to install a Double Din head unit in my 05 F150 to replace the factory unit. The kit was relatively easy enough to assemble. I did not need the spacers behind the 4 mounting holes as the instructions indicated that I would and when I went to install the screws into the side of the stereo, none of the holes would line up properly with the holes on the installation kit. There is a ridge on the back edge of the kit that prevented the stereo from seating properly into the opening of the kit. With the help of a Dremel tool, I was able to remove the ridge to allow the stereo to seat properly, thereby allowing the screw holes to line up. With the exception of this modification, it is a decent kit. If you have a little bit of time and ingenuity, you can make it work. Not quite the plug and play that I would have expected.
Pros: Easy to assemble, inexpensive
Cons: Modifications necessary to provide better fitment of the stereo.
Opening in the faceplate is too large for Pioneer double din radios. Installed gasket pieces to sides of radio for tight fit and to keep radio centered on faceplate. Four of the eight side mount screw holes did not align up with the mounting holes in radio. Had to file out 4 holes to place screws in. Haven't installed it in my 2008 Ford F-150 truck yet. Don' know if there will be more challenges. Overall this product does not fit good without doing modifications. Maybe this is why they include them for free with a radio purchase.
Pros: Looks good
Cons: Poor fit
Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS radio was lightly smaller than opening, didn't fit evenly without a couple of homemade spacers. (earlier Sony fit like a glove). As others note, instructions unclear about need to remove rear tabs. Yount mount the HU, then find out that tabs have to be removed.
Pros: Looks good. Matched dash when installed
Cons: Unclear instructions
It fits but not great the instructions were kinda vague and it just doesn't seem as nice as many of the others that I have gotten from Crutchfield.
Pros: It holds the unit ok
Cons: It has a lot of gaps cheesy feel to the plastic, the instructions should be taken out of every package and thrown away.
The finished product looks awesome. With that being said, there were a few issues. The instructions were, well, let's say vague. Vague should cover it in a PC sort of a way. If you are using it for a vehicle that isn't listed in the instructions be prepared to get a little creative and do some thinking. I eventually had to put the old radio next to the new one to figure out how to get it mounted properly. The other issue was that the plastic on the bracket is heavy and thick. Now this is a good thing because it makes it stronger. The bad thing about it is the mounting screws that came with the radio weren't long enough to get thru the thickness of plastic. A quick trip to the hardware store solved the issue but it was just one more thing that needed to be improvised.
Pros: Looks awesome and is good heavy gage plastic.
Cons: The instructions are useless. The plastic may be too thick for the mounting screws provided with your radio.
Purchased this product from my 2008 F350 in conjunction with a Jensen V7020 head unit. The supplied directions are horrible so you'll need to apply some thought. The directions tell you not to cut the rear tabs off but it was obvious that the trim plate wouldn't fit. But once I sorted the directions out the product looks great.
Pros: Looks great and fits great
Cons: Directions are horrible
It fits good with lots of modifications. You have to cut off pieces to make it work with 2008 F250.
Pros: Fits good.
Cons: Modifications necessary to make it work.
Directions were a lil vague , once I figured the cage around the kenwood radio needed removed and the plastic mounts on the kit needed removed install went rather quick. Grinded the back plastic tabs of with hand grinder It slid right in
Pros: Good fit. Looks nice when complete
Cons: Could use a lil better of directions to take out some of the guess work out. My 20 minute install could of taken less time . If the directions said which model vehicle needed tabs removed instead of bolting and u bolting then revolting together
As others have mentioned in their reviews, this product gets the job done and looks nice, but the instructions are a little vague in telling you that you might need to modify the side mounting brackets in order to get the assembly to fit into your dash. We installed into a 2009 Ford Fusion and couldn't figure out how to get stereo and dash kit to fit when all assembled. We had a professional finally do the install and he explained as others have mentioned that you have to trim the tabs off on the side brackets. Metra should mention something in their instructions for first time installers that there may need to be some modification if it's not a drop in fit for your vehicle!
Pros: Looks nice and performs as you would expect it to.
Cons: Could use a little more clarity in the instructions about modifying the bracket to fit different vehicles.
End result looks great. I had to realign the radio a few times to make all the edges line up correctly and look acceptable (I'm OCD) with the factory trim, but the end result looks great! Watch the "spacers" if you must use them, they may fall off during the last phase of the install. I'm just saying. Haha.
Pros: Nice look. Does what it is supposed to do. Looks great in my 2004 F150.
Cons: It's not as simple as some people seem to want it to be. You have to be patient and work with it a little to make it perfect.
Used this with a Kenwood DDX492 installation in a 2007 Ford F150. The end product looks like it came from the factory and fits perfectly. The instructions were a little vague for my application and took a few minutes to figure it out, but when I did, the install was a breeze. The part that was not clear is you don't use the cage or the front trim that comes with the receiver and you need to screw this bracket directly into the sides of the receiver.
Pros: Perfect fit and works for my F150!
Cons: Instructions not clear, very generic for every application.
At first I thought this trim was plug and play for my 2005 f150. After doing some research I had to trim the rear 4 tabs (meant for other ford models) for the trim to fit. The instructions are pretty vague but its quite easy to see what you have to do in order for it to work. I used a bench grinder to remove the tabs carefully.
Pros: Works, looks nice, little to no gap on dash trim
Cons: Vague, unclear instructions, trimming
Fit was perfect to factory mounts. Only downside was for my vehicle I had to cut off the rear mounting tabs. Literally used a hacksaw then filed it down smooth.
Pros: Easy install
Cons: Have to cut off back tabs.
This kit made my job job about 3 times longer than it should take. The side pieces needed some serious modification for them to fit flush against the sides of my Blaupunkt double din and yhe front top panel is slightly too thin to fit flush the way the factory stereo looked...
Pros: It was free and there is no way i could have completed insrallation without it.
Cons: It didnt fut the way it should and required modification.
Fit my JVC head unit very well. Instructions were not very clear and I had to cut a few tabs off the back to get it to fit in my 05 F-150
good solid support, instructions not completely accurate
Pros: solid support for receiver
Cons: inaccurate instructions
This is the second one of this exact install kit I own. The first one I got from a local tag store when I bought my first head unit. I had resold it and purchased my new head unit which came with this kit. As other reviewers have stated, the instructions are lacking. They are vague and not totally correct. It said I needed spacers, which I knew I didn't from the previous install. You do have to slice off the rear mounting tabs for the 04 F150 XLT. Mounting holes could be aligned better. I had to further mod the trim plate to flush my new head unit to the dash. This may be an issue with the design of my head unit? Take your time when assembling this kit. The mounting tabs only go on one way to the face trim plate. I would of liked to see this with a smooth satin finish to match the interior of my F150 but not a big deal. 4 stars for the lacking detail in the instructions. Overall good product.
Pros: Simple, fits, free with my purchase.
Cons: Lacking instructions, textured trim
Thank you Crutchfield for providing the perfect Dash kit to fit my vehicle, @ no extra cost. This kit fit my truck and made my install look clean & professional.
Pros: Included FREE with purchase of Head Unit.
For the most part, this dash kit was exactly what we needed. It fit the stereo perfectly, but had mounting tabs on the back side of if that wouldn't allow the kit to go into the dash. They had to be cut off. The screws also weren't long enough to mount the kit to the dash, so we opted for self-tappers that we had on hand. But overall, good quality and the right fit for the truck and stereo.
Pros: Good quality, sturdy, fast shipping, good price.
Cons: Awkwardly placed mounting tabs, screws too short.
Worked great easy install
This kit didn't work well with the radio I bought. I did make it work but it took some modification.
The mount kit works good in my van had to spacer it out 1/8 of inch so it would protrude thru opening in dash. also required metric thread screws from hardware store. screw supplied were not metric thread.
Cons: Instructions were a bit laxed. You will have to cut off secondary rearward mount ear on Eseries Van.
Unit came with radio free. There were noticeable gaps between the radio and the dash kit. The spacer would fall out during installation
Shipped with purchase of Blaupunkt NJ 220. The frame fits the head unit, but the side brackets do not fit flush due to the design of the case and can not be used. Had to glue frame to receiver.
Pros: Good color match with receiver and installation looks original in Mercury Milan.
Cons: See above. Do not recommend for this receiver.
Not a good fit. The bezel sits back from the dash faceplate enough to be a problem, looks cheesy. Had to make modifications to the side brackets to make it fit into the hole. Figured out how to get it to this point. Needs thicker spacers to set the bezel out further. Or better yet, just make one that actually fits so I don't have to go to all this trouble.
Pros: Gave me something to tinker with in the garage.
Cons: Eventually finished up.
I had to make this work for my deck. It is plastic and said to use the screws that came with my deck. Unfortunately since the plastic had to be so thick for strength I assume the screws were too short and I had to find some that would work. I would expect better from Crutchfield but it was free after all!
Pros: Fit my dash.
Cons: Plastic. Did not include correct screws. A slight reveal between the trim and the bottom of the deck.
Fit perfect but directions little unclear.
Pros: Fit perfect. Simple install
Cons: Bracket spacers and installation directions lil unclear and confusing
Easy to install. Looks like an original factory install. Very happy
Absolutly no vehicle specific instructions not too hard to figure out though
Cons: Not enough screws
Pros: Looks great, perfect fit
Cons: If you don't need the rear mounting bracket, it won't fit through the dash. Due to the shape, not the easiest thing to cut off.
The instructions were a little hard to follow so I tried a few different ways till I got it to fit. It looks great.
Pros: Great fit. Looks like it came from the factory.
Cons: Instructions could use some fine tuning.
This kit was a perfect fit for my 2005 f-150. Very easy to install and the final appearance made it look as if it had been installed by the factory, no extra gaps around the sides or top and bottom. Thank to crutchfield for this great product.
Pros: Perfect fit
Works well but the instructions are difficult to interpret.
Ok, wish it wouldn't look so cheap. Instructions called for spacers on my setup, had to take them out. All in all not bad.
Pros: pro fit
fits 2008 f150 dash perfect, makes jvc look factory installed
Pros: solid product
simple had to take back tabs off,my suggestion don't brake them use a hack saw cleaner and no worries of braking something you don't need too.
Pros: simple took about 50 minutes by time done with wiring bracket and setting up the radio in my f150 supercrew
Cons: none worked as it said if you can read blue prints.
Looks great but had to do my own modify to get it to fit in my 08 f350 other than that does the job
Pros: Looks good
Cons: Had to modify to get it to fit and wasn't something that was recommend to modify but works for me
Pros: Got with purchase, show I paid for it some how haha
Cons: plastic, direction not clear on some steps,
Was able to use the side mounts to hold the new double Din M1 Eonon radio, could not use the face plate as it was to narrow as the new radio had to knobs at the botton right and left sides, just used the side mounts to mount the radio into the dash.
Pros: Looks same as OEM radio
Overall I'm pleased with the turnout of the install kit. The instructions mention removing the rear tabs but the picture points to the guide pins. I removed the pins and only after spending too much time trying to decipher the instructions I removed the tabs so the kit would work.
Pros: It is a nice product and makes installing an aftermarket stereo easier with nice end results.
Cons: The instructions really need to be proofed and corrected for clarity. In my case they only confused me and added time to the install.
Pros: Good look fits good
Perfect it fit nice in the stock area
Pros: In exspensive
This kit is WAY too generic and required quite a bit of modification to get it to fit in the dash. The instructions are completely useless as it fails to mention that you have to use the spacers, so I had to take all back out after putting everything back together.
Pros: Can't find one!
Cons: Bad instructions, too many modifications to make fit properly
It works but the instructions could be much better.
Would have given this a 5 star rating but the instructions were for several different cars/trucks and were a little hard to follow but not totally useless. It made the radio fit just like a factory unit.
Pros: Fit of product
Cons: Instructions a little hard to follow due to covering several cars.
The receiver kit works well, but you need to cut the ears off the back of the unit. If you don't you need to remove the entire dash off a Ford F150.
Pros: works well
Cons: modification needed
Lifesaver for the DIY stereo installer. Had to make two minor alterations to allow a perfect fit. Awesome addition to the purchase of his new sound system. 2005 Ford F150
Pros: Ease of use, technical assistance was great,
It does it's job. Other than that it's okay
Pros: It's a tight fit and it holds my head unit perfectly
Cons: I had to shave the back two prongs off to get the fit in my truck
Very easy to install.
Pros: perfect fit.
This unit was on backorder, so I had to wait for it. Once it arrived, the direction that came with it were pretty confusing, but a call to Crutchfield cleared everything up. Still required cutting the rear tabs off the bracket, and to get it to fit in the dash properly, it required using two of the four supplied spacers. Looks great now that it's in, but was the most frustrating part of the install (I installed a receiver, SiriusXM radio and steering wheel control adapter).
Pros: fits nicely once it's in.
Cons: Directions are poor, and it required cutting off the rear tabs, and a lot of dry-fitting, before the fit was right.
Flimsy, but worked. We will see how long it lasts. Instructions are unclear
Cons: Cheap Workmanship Instructions
A little more direction about the large brackets on the back would have been helpful. After I understood that, it fit great.
is not strong enough to support the pioneer stereo
I ordered a new stereo for my husband's birthday...with the help of the cruthfield rep, we got all the parts I needed so my husband could install it! He was very surprised and is very happy with his new stereo!
Pros: Lots of freebies and friendly, helpful, knowledgeable associates!
Overall it was a good, easy clean fit with my Pioneer AVH-X4500BT in my 07 F150. My only complaint really is the four tabs that take the scews to mount the deck. They are made out of plastic and if you don't need the spacers, but still have to tighten it down, they flex and look like they're are going to break. I wish they were beefier and allowed you to notch them out for depth fit or were thin but made from aluminium so that they could be tightened down as needed but are less likely to break. Overall, good fit though fortunately and great help from Crutchfield with the MasterSheet! You have to be an idiot not to be able to do most of the job. Wiring takes a little more care but doable with Crutchfield help.
Pros: Great fit
Cons: Four mounting tabs made of plastic
Great product from Metra!!! Worked very well for my 2005 F-150!! Easy installation in place of the factory head unit!
Looks perfect in my dash !!!! '05 F-150
Use the Metra 95-5812 in dash receiver kit to install my new double din Sony head unit into my 06 Ford F150. Everything was fine until attaching the head unit to the receiver kit. Only one hole lined up so I had to modify it. Also when placing it into the dash it would not fit. I had to cut off the back tabs on both sides to give it enough clearance to be installed.
Pros: Looks great
Cons: Poor instructions, poor fit
This is an awesome piece of NECESSARY accessory needed to install my after market radio. It custom fit my vehicle perfectly and the instructions were easy and simple to follow.
Pros: "FREE", did I say "FREE" well how much less expensive can that get? It fit my vehicle perfectly following the simple, easy instructions.
Looked like factory installed at end. Took some work to make it fit.
Pros: Made radio look factory installed.
Cons: Would not fit. Had to cut out some tabs so I could get it in. Screws were hard to align but managed. No problem if you know what you're doing.
Product looks great and allowed the new DVD Receiver to be installed in minutes. Looks like it came from the factory.
Pros: Ease of installation.
Directions a bit weak, but anyone with a little sense can figure it out.
Pros: nice fit
Cons: directions need help
Pros: Perfect fit
This is the reason I purchased my receiver from Crutchfield the installation kit is Free I checked other places online it was about $16 thanks Crutchfield.
Pros: Looks better than factory
The mounting bracket / faceplate trim fit my new head unit great, BUT the kit did not come with screws to attach it to the unit, just screws to mount the assembly into the dash, so I had to in search of some. Good thing they're cheap and fairly easy to find. PLUS I had to trim some un-needed tabs off the sides of the mounting bracket just so I could get the assembly into the dash, good thing it was plastic. The faceplate trim is a very shiny black, the finish in the dash area of my truck is matte, if I had more time, and patience, I would have painted it to match better, but the face of my new head unit is shiny black too, so it's a minor nag. It came free with my new head unit, so I guess I can't complain too much.
Pros: It was free.
Cons: No screws to attach it to the head unit. Extra un-needed tabs had to cut off the sides of the mounting bracket.
Came with Pioneer unit I ordered and was fairly easy to install. The only thing I had to do was trim the ears on the sides off and screw them to the radio.
The perfect kit!!!
Pros: perfect fit!
Pros: It fits
Fit my 2008 Ford F150 double-din perfectly . No gap , no cutting
Directions were not great. Said I didn't need to cut the tabs, but after struggling, I realized I needed to. Self explanatory during the install, but it's unnerving to cut something when the directions say not too.
Pros: Clean install
Cons: Directions stink.
Not bad, it did the job. I had to make a few minor modifications to get it to fit into the dash. Which literally took seconds. But, it supports the stereo fine.
Pros: Fits the stereo fine
Cons: Had to make modifications to fit
Nice fit. Very secure.
Pros: Holds the radio nicely.
Cons: Instructions could be better.
Perfect fit, easy install. Thanks Crutchfield!
This product fits my vehicle correctly. I had no trouble installing it and it looks great
Pros: Perfect fit, looks good.
Flimsy. VERY POOR instructions. Did not fit the JVC KWR800BT CD Receiver into the dash of my '06 Ford Fusion very well. I had to settle for gaps around both sides and at the bottom. But hey, it's a freebie, what do you expect?
Pros: It worked....
Cons: Cheap quality. Poor instructions.
A little on the cheap and flimsy side but I must say it works perfectly! After a couple weeks of off roading the radio still fits perfectly in my dash and looks like a factory install.
Pros: Easy to install, great alignment with factory edges
Cons: Holding it in your hands it seems cheap and flimsy.
This product is real easy to install I would recommend it .. Just takes a few minutes to put together .
Fits like a glove
The kit looks like it is a factory product after it is installed. The installation was more difficult than I thought it would be, though. I found the instructions were poorly written. The instructions for my 2004 F150 consisted of two pages with many other pages for other vehicles. The illustrations were not very descriptive so it took several hours to figure out how to install my receiver with the kit. I am fairly experienced with electronics and packaging but have not installed many car receivers.
Pros: It looks great after installation is complete
Cons: Poor directions
Look and fit
Pros: Looks and fit like a glove
Had to cut the back tabs. Other that that great fit.
Looks great now that it is installed. Good fit around the radio and in the dash.
Pros: Looks like a factory installed radio. Does what it is supposed to do!
Cons: Holes did not line up well. Had to trim and adapt with poorly written instructions. Not terribly difficult, but not a quick fit, either.
Easy to install...but I wish the directions were written in ENGLISH. Also, information about removing the back two tabs would have been helpful.
Pros: Easy to install after speaking with rep.
Cons: Directions were unclear...tabs should have more easly come off without cutters
Clean look and very easy to install!!! Simple Simple
Pros: Easy to use!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clean Look!!!!!!!!!!
This kit came close, but found myself sorely tempted to trim the opening a bit, to make it a more "perfect" fit...chose not to for fear of doing structural damage. It does the job, just not quite as clean as you would like.
Holes didn't all line up so I'm a little concerned about how long it will stay secured on my 4x4 truck when I go fishing in the Sierra's this spring
The kit does work for the intended purpose but did need a few alterations that weren't noted in the instructions.
Pros: Does what is intended
Cons: Needs better fit and finish.
Need to file down the bottom of the kit to allow face to be removed.
This was super easy to install in my 2012 F250 SuperDuty. It fits nice and tight, with the black matching radio and bezel alike.
Pros: Perfect fit with the FORD bezel.
Cons: Suggest using dikes or similar heavier duty wire cutters to trim the rear mounting tabs off, rather than the utility knife shown in the instructions.
The receiver kit could not have fit better. Looks like factory installed.
Pros: Excellet kit. Fit perfectly and was easy to install in my 2008 Ford F350 Truck.
this adaptor fits many model cars and is not specfic clear, but tech service is.
Pros: once adapted install is easy
Cons: directions not clear as to what and where to trim, tech service is clear.
The worst part of the install, but eventually worked OK. The worst part was the directions said remove the 2 back tabs, but a nice little arrow poiting to them would have helped! I spent 3 hours working on this thing until I finally got up the nerve to cut off the two huge pieces off the back of the mount! They were not made to come off, so it took some heavy duty cutters. If your installing the radio in a F-150, (mine is an 08) go ahead and cut off what you think they are referring too as tabs! After that it slips right in and almost fits just right.Anyway about it, it sure beat installing a single DIN unit in my truck and eventually made my JVC look great in the dash.
Pros: Allows you to put a double din unit in the big hole in the dash of a F150.
Cons: Kinda cheap and poor instructions. Just do what looks right and it will work.
Directions were easy to understand, kit went in easily and looks great after installation with a Pioneer AVH-4400BH unit. I saw another review saying this kit wouldn't fit, but I had faith in crutchfield and it did fit in my vehicle.
Once I figured out which tabs to remove it was an easy install. Picture wasn't very informative. BUT it did make installing a breeze.
on my 2007 f150, serious mods on kit needed to fit in dash. the kit was free - you get what you pay for
Pros: looks good now
Cons: too much touble to get to fit right
I had to modify this so much to even closely install on my radio, so time comsuming and dont like the end result. i plan on replacing it with a better quality instal kit
Cons: poor instal fit to radio(sides), will have to replace with another product
The product ended up working nicely and looks perfect - this was my first double din install, and the instructions were truly poor - but I figured it out.
The picture should do a better job of showing what tabs need to be cut off for a 2007 F-150. Only 2 holes instead of the recommended 3 on each side would line up - hope this holds the unit secure.
Pros: Free - it came with the unit. It looks factory for my truck.
Cons: Better pictures needed.
Fits my 2005 ford f150 supercrew fx4 like they made it just for my truck. very easy install.
Pros: all good
I had to make several mods to the bracket to fit my dash. The radio doesn't fill the center of this bracket so there is a 1/8 inch gap between the radio and the bezel. Also I had to do some shimming with washers to get the bezel to line up with the dash.
Pros: it holds the radio in place.
Cons: fit & finish is not good.
This kit was used while installing a Clarion CX501 into a 2007 F-150. The kit made the radio installation easy and the finished product looks great. Radio is solid in the dash and looks factory installed.
Pros: Fits perfectly, looks great and holds radio securely.
Too many mods necessary for my application. Doesnt fit evenly in opening. Willing to pay more for better mounting kit.
Cons: Mods necessary
This kit does not fit the Pioneer AVH-3400BH very well. The best way to explain it is if there were a light source inside my dash there would be a lot of light leaking into my cab. There's at least a 1/16" gap all the way around this kit. Kind of makes the allure of buying from Crutchfield for the perks not so great.
The kit and deck did not match up. Had to make some adjustments by cutting some parts off the kit. Very frustrating
Cons: Didnt fit
The kit was too tight of a fit.
Pros: Color matched my interior great
Cons: I could only fit two of the screws to hold the radio into the frame. The whole kit was a little too tight.
It makes my AVH4300DVD installation look like it was installed by a professional. If the AVH4300DVD unit had Ford on it instead of Pioneer the installation would look factory.
Pros: It makes my AVH4300DVD installation look like it was installed by a professional.
Cons: Nothing much to say that is negative except I wish the adjustment slots were a little longer for some very fine tunning. I did my slots as I saw fit with a very small round file.
This kit was easy to install and it fits great in my dash. Also it has the factory look. Be prepaired to remove the back two clips, this can be done with a knife or hack saw blade.
Pros: The kit fits great in my 2005 Ford F150 Crew Cab
This kit is not well made. I had to make numerous adjustments just to get the radio to "almost" fit. Not pleased.
Ok had a pioneer to use this with all i have to say is bad. didnt fit in truck at all! ty Dremel tool. Like the other guy with the f-150 said had to heavenly modify it to fit. cheesy plastic, works with modification. Overall once together looks good but without modifing it wont fit.
This is an amazingly cheap product that requires significant modification with pliers to even fit into a F-150 and the instructions are basically useless.
Worked like a champ!
The install was very straight forward and simple. But the fit around my Clarion CX501 isn't quite right. The inside of the opening needs to be trimmed to get the fit just right.
the kit overall is just really cheesy. its all cheap plastic and doesnt even have metal mounting brackets, my oem stereo even had that. cant complain too much though because it fit and was free with my reciever.
The install kit fit is just okay. My previous kit i used for my 07 dodge ram had a much cleaner fit and blended into the dash bezel.
Looks great with my Pioneer 4200 dvd player with 2006 F150
had this kit in my truck for about 3 months and the cheap plastic tabs broke off on one side, needs much better support the stereo this is for a truck not a caddy
very easy to install.nice and clean finished look
Works, but not exact, I used on Clarion NX500, does not give OEM look that I was after without excessive modifications, safe to say, I broke the trim ring trying to modify. After purchase of second trim ring, and now with experience of what not to do.. I was able to file down and make fit like it should, not exact but will do.
This kit is a good match for installing the Clarion NX500 into my Ford F150
Installation was smooth & worry free.
Fits great in truck, little hard to figure out which holes to use on JVC radio. Finally
removed sleve adapter and cut tabs off to get it to work. Not very user friendly! Clean
factory plastic look for the money though.
It does what it supposed to do, but it could made a little better. Instcuctions are not as good as expected. They do not mention cutting off the rear tabs. Not crazy about being all plastic worried about long term durability. I did expect better from Crutchfield.
I got this for installation on my '07 F150 SCrew truck to install my Pioneer AVH-P3200BT. The double din brackets have extra tabs in the back that are to used in my truck. They require you to cut them off, but there are no tear-away guide lines molded in them and the instructions had no pictures showing this. So I just had to get my tin snips out and just go for it. It's not a big deal to someone experienced, but for someone who has little or no experience may find this tricky with out the well written instructions. Also, the instructions don't say the spacer tabs are needed for the upper brackets, so after I installed it in my dash and put the surround back on I noticed the spacing wasn't flush. I had to take everything back out and install the spacers.
It looks good, the colors match and the unit fits perfectly but the instructions are lacking. They should have spent less time showing how to disassemble the dash and more time on the installation/modification instructions.
I got one of these mounts with my AVIC Z2 for use in my 2007 F-150
Supercrew. It must have been a predecessor to this one, because it didn't
have the U-shaped pieces that need to be ground off (See Mario's review),
but otherwise exactly the same. After about a year the plastic tabs that
hold it to the truck broke off leaving my unit hanging back in the dashboard.
I just purchased one of these to replace it because I couldn't find anything
made out of metal.
My recommedation if you have a heavy head unit (mine weighs 14lbs) is to
build some type of support for the unit to rest on so all the weight isn't on
This installation fit perfectly. It makes the installation of my Pioneer head unit look stock.
This item work great. Really no issues. Looked like a Factory installed!
I bought this product to use in my 2007 F-150 Supercrew. The double din radio fit in the harness, and the screw holes on the harness line up correctly with the dash.
BUT, if you notice in the picture there are two U-shaped pieces on the harness. (Two on each side actually.) These are wider that the rest of the unit, and I had to take a Dremmel to them in order to make the harness fit back into the dash.
I tried every possible angle and trick I could think of to get the harness and radio in the dash with those U-shaped pieces on there, but it would not go. Seems pointless anyway, because in my dash, there is nothing that those U-shaped pieces could connect to.
So after I cut them off, the harness fit right in, and four screws later, seems like a perfectly good mount.
