You bought a 2010-up Camaro — great car, but its console makes it impossible to upgrade the factory radio. The Metra 99-3010 dash and wiring kit allows you to install an aftermarket single- or double-DIN receiver in the Camaro's dash panel, while maintaining all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning controls. You'll also retain use of the Onstar® system.

The kit features blue LED-illuminated, soft-touch buttons that let you access all climate controls found in the Camaro, and it's a perfect match for the color, texture, and contours of your dash. The Camaro's heated seats, hazard lights, lock and unlock controls are also retained. Warranty: 1 year.

Installation Note: If you plan on keeping the GM satellite radio tuner and your Camaro does not have a Driver Information Center screen, you'll need to buy a separate dash-mount screen to display satellite radio and iPod info.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's been 5 days since the install, no problems and everything works as described. The connections all work great if you follow the directions. Don't understand all the negative reviews, the manufacture either upgraded their product or the people installing didn't read or follow the instructions. The instructions are a little confusing at times but make sense if your read them a couple of times. With this install kit you retain your outside temperature display which was a huge feature, since I don't have the heads up display.

Pros: Temperature display is retained, Connectors all plug and play, Retains all OnStar features

Cons: Only uses the driverside front speaker for the door chimes and OnStar volume, The original radio used all four speakers. Install instructions can be a little confusing but not that bad.

If you're OCD like I am you will not enjoy this kit

Written by: Mike from Hampton, VA on July 28, 2013

I bought this kit because I wanted to give my car a better look, that did NOT happen. Let me tell you why.

For one, the Metra dash kit has only one LED light color which is a total miss match. It emits a blue LED light where as the rest of the car emits turquoise. That may not be a big deal to you but I like uniformity, and two different colors shining in my face takes away from my driving experience. And from what I've researched, all Camaro's interior light is the same. Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe you can buy something to change the color to fit the kit, my point is you shouldn't HAVE to.

Secondly, the steering wheels controls don't work with it unless you want to pay more for a device that is not included. Total bull.

Thirdly, it looks hideous in my opinion. If you were to buy any kind of receiver or dash radio it'll all protrude out and look like nothing belongs at all. On top of that, unlike the factory model, if you're driving and need to adjust the AC you have to take your eyes off the road and look at what you're about to press. I can send off a complete text without ever looking at my phone better than I can navigate through the dash's buttons (although I don't condone such a thing).

Basically this kit is not an upgrade from the factory model. I returned it after having it for a week and the ppl that installed it were upset for me that I didn't like it for these reasons and I felt bad I wasted their time, but regardless I couldn't enjoy my car with this kit.

Pros: It fits my 2012 Camaro and it works. That's about it.

Cons: The Blue LED light is a mismatch from the rest of the car. The steering wheel functions do not work without a third party adapter. Is a downgrade from the factory kit and looks horrible compared to other kits for this car that are either sold out, discontinued or on back order. Should be cheaper than it's actually worth.

Crutchfield response on May 14, 2015 Instructions for changing the display backlight color are on the last page of the included owners manual.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So, the bad parts first... Unfortunately, this was a let down and has delayed / complicated my stereo installation. Part of this falls upon the kit's shoulders and part of this in the retailer's shoulders. Apparently, the manufacture updated this kit from an earlier production version. This now requires additional parts to be purchased.

1: You will not retain steering wheel controls without purchasing the Axxess ASWC-1. The new kit has capacity to integrate to this module. Crutchfield didn't catch this with their "you will need this installation gear". :( Plus eighty dollars to your bill...

2: Several vehicle configuration options were set through the OEM radio. The manual tells you that purchasing Axxess XIA-LCD will allow you to access those functions. There is a port on the Metra module to plug this unit into. plus seventy dollars to your bill...

3: Want to use an external amp with your new head unit's pre-outs? No obvious connections or adapters are provided. Go fish.

So, that was the bad and now the good: This kit works. It does what it says it will do and retain OEM features as long as you just replace the headunit, keep the bad factory amp (if you have the BostonAcoustics) AND buy the add-on products.

Of the people I have talked to that have this as well as a competing kit, this is without long-term operational issues while the other major competitor is not.

Pros: Retains factory functionality and features, with additional module purchases. Good fit & finish. Does not mess up the other functions of the car, such as remote's range or ability to do remote start, etc. Of the owners I have surveyed, none have experienced anything ceasing to work. Installation instructions are fairly good, except stating that the relay has nothing else to plug into and is there to make the "blinker clicking sound"

Cons: Does not allow easy integration of functionality with an after-market amp. Does not include all required parts to retain all functionality, nor is this clearly stated until reading the installation manual.

Great product

METRA Camaro Kit

Written by: JimC from Virginia Beach on October 14, 2012

2011 Chevrolet Camaro

I would give it a zero but that is not one of the choices. As for the fit and look it is okay, but the operation is very bad. Following the directions given for the install when it says the pink wire is not used (wrong) after a call to METRA tech line I was told to hook it up to get the air from the fan to blow to the desired location. Also after calls to Crutchfield and then METRA tech support and going through several tries to reset the interface METRA then told me that the steering wheel controls will not work for Newer Kenwood models. At this time the interface has shut down my front and rear deck speakers and all that is working is my subs in the trunk. The head unit is still functioning. Also the LCD display has stopped displaying the seat heat and rear defrost. this is my fourth try to get one of these to work in my vehicle (2011 Camaro SS). Don't buy this product or take it for free until they get thier TECHNICAL bugs fixed.

UPDATED 10/19: This is an update to my previous review. The guys at METRA TECH have fixed the problem. I have updated the interface with a file from Rob. He and Dave contacted me and gave me the fix and instructions via e-mail and phonecon. All of the SWC operate like OE. The only reason now that I did not give it 5 stars is the wire harness/bundle. It would be nice if it were a bit more compact/organized for more ease in stowage behind the HU. Otherwise it is worth the money and I think you will be pleased with the final product.

Pros: Fit and finish UPDATED 10/19: Works with SWC

Cons: Everything else UPDATED 10/19: Wire Harness

not the best but will do

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If your going to install this unit in your camaro yourself be prepared to spend 2.5+ hours. Can mostly blame Gm for the design of vehicle but this replacement really makes your dash look alot better than the stock radio. only problem is it is not completely flush with the dashboard but not by much. climate control buttons do not feel cheap and the LED display is solid

Pros: replaces that ugly OEM radio that chevy installed. This is a must have if you buy a Camaro

Cons: does not completely line up with dashboard but not by much. not noticeable by quick glance or passenger of vehicle

this is awesome !!

Vehicle Compatibility: The Metra Turbo Kit 2 (99-3010S) is designed specifically for the 2010-up Chevy Camaro (both amplified and non-amplified factory systems). The 99-3010S allows you to replace your GM factory stereo with an aftermarket stereo and retain important factory functions, which otherwise would be lost. Please consult Crutchfield's Vehicle Selector to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Automotive Install Kit w/ Integrated LCD & Climate Control: The installation kit will fit most single-DIN or Double-DIN aftermarket head units (a pocket is included for Single-DIN installations. The kit features high-grade ABS plastic and is contoured to match your vehicle's factory dashboard color and texture. The blue LED illuminated climate control display and soft-touch buttons let you retain full functionality of your vehicle's climate control system. The kits button layout also retains heated seats, hazards lights, and lock and unlock controls.

Radio Replacement Module: The included radio replacement interface module allows the replacement of the factory radio in your 2010-up Chevy Camaro with an aftermarket head unit. This interface module allows you to retain factory features such as OnStar, Bluetooth, steering wheel control (optional interface required), Aux input, and warning chimes. The interface module also provides data bus driven outputs such as retained accessory power (RAP), vehicle speed sensor (VSS), illumination, reverse trigger, and parking brake.

  • Retained Accessory Power (R.A.P.): The ignition power source of most GM vehicles keeps the radio on until one of the doors is opened. This feature is called the R.A.P. (retained accessory power). The 99-3010S is designed to retain this feature.
  • OnStar Compatible: The Metra Turbo Kit 2 (99-3010S) is designed to retain the factory OnStar emergency services system that would normally be lost when your factory radio is replaced by an aftermarket head unit.
  • Warning Chimes: The 99-3010S OEM integration kit retains your vehicle's factory warning chimes.
  • Aux Input: To retain the vehicle's factory Aux input, your aftermarket head unit must have a rear-panel Aux input (male mini to female stereo RCA adapter may be required, sold separately).
  • Bluetooth: The Metra Turbo Kit 2 (99-3010S) retains your factory Bluetooth functionality.
  • Navigation Outputs: The 99-3010S provides a VSS (vehicle speed sense), Parking Brake, Mute, and a Reverse Gear output to make installing an aftermarket Navigation radio simpler and less time consuming.
  • Optional Steering Wheel Control Interface: The included wiring harness features a right-angle 3.5mm connector that lets you keep your GM vehicle's OEM steering wheel controls via the optional Axxess Steering Wheel Control Interface (item number 120ASWC1, sold separately).

Optional Vehicle Customization LCD: The Metra Turbo Kit 2 (99-3010S) allows you to change certain factory vehicle customization items when the Axxess XIA-LCD  is used (120XIALCD, separately).

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

I've had the Metra Kit installed with the Kenwood DNN990 screen since last summer and I haven't had a problem at all with it. I know a few people who have the Scosche kit and they're constantly having problems. Their problems consist of shorten distance on keyless entry, screen freezing, or kit not working. From what I heard, there isn't a fix to any of their problems and this has been going on for a year now. Stay away from it! I prefer the look of the Scosche over the metra kit, but I will take a Metra kit without any problems any day of the week. Also, if you purchase the Metra Kit make sure to get the kit that allows you to use the steering wheel controls. I hope this helps in your decision! [ STANLEY  Jan 09, 2014 ]
Chris, I purchased the metra kit and it had everything you will need to wire your after market radio. In addition it had some cool futures like being able to change the stick man figure to a woman. Trevor [ IRENE  Jan 08, 2014 ]
Christopher, I tried first Scosche GM5201AB because looks nicer than Metra but after too many issues with the firmware and defective parts with Scosche I decided to go with Metra (I tried two units and different issues between them). Metra has been working fine for me for the past 10 months or so. Maybe with some luck you could get the Scosche work for you but if you want to play safe I would recommend Metra. You can adjust the color of the screen to match it to your dashboard (not the blue buttons, they stay the same). I have a 2011 SS Camaro and that was my experience. I hope this helps with your decision and best luck!. [ CESAREO  Jan 08, 2014 ]
I think that the scosche adapter is much better [ KIRK B  Jan 08, 2014 ]
I personally only have experience with the metro kit. At the time, the schoshe was sold out and to be honest, I was gonna buy the schoshe. But nonetheless, I ordered the metro kit and it installed cleanly and works flawlessly. It's been on my 2010 camaro for about 6 months now and is still working great. [ GARY  Jan 08, 2014 ]
