You bought a 2004-up Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable, but its dash design makes it impossible to upgrade the factory radio. Metra's 99-5717 kit allows you to install an aftermarket DIN-sized (2" tall) stereo while maintaining all the original factory controls.
The dash kit is a perfect match for the color, texture, and contours of your vehicle's dash. Please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if this model is compatible with your vehicle. Warranty: 1 year.
Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.
This product was easy to install, came with all necessary fittings, and looks very much like the original equipment. If this is meant for Ford or Mercury, check to see if you need deck pulling tool. Very cheap. Crutchfield rep put them in my cart and I was glad for that.
Pros: Great fit and looks like original. Came with all connections necessary for the switch. Setup was easy as long as you follow directions.
Cons: Nothing negative to say about the item.
Pros: Fits well, works great.
Cons: Would not buy via Crutchfield unless I was installing, as the setup for installation was very difficult.
Easy install. Works great
Pros: Easy Install
Cons: The Dual DC535Bi radio I bought required using DIN mounting which was ok but I would have preferred to use ISO mounting that would have been an exact fit vs having to bend the tabs with the DIN mounting which is harder to get tight. Not sure if the issue is with the mount or the radio I purchased.
Worked very well and it was hard to install. Radio fit well and the beater controls work also
Looks good enough, have had issues with the knobs falling off
Makes installing a head unit in a Taurus easy, only hard part in removing back seat to run wires
I was worried it wouldn't fit but it side and took less time than I thought. Best investment I ever made!
Pros: Comes with everything you need to install. And detailed instructions.
This product fit perfectly. Looks great. Includes everything you need, with complete detailed instructions.
Pros: It has an OEM look, and preserves that factory Airbag light, and Rear window Defroster, controls.
This kit had everything I needed to complete the install in my '05 Taurus. Installation was quick and easy following the master sheet provided by Crutchfield. Only took an hour.
Pros: Everything was there
The kit was complete and had everything I needed to install the stereo. (It looks and sounds great). This was my first time and I do not consider myself mechanically inclined. The kit was great, but my impression is that installing on a Taurus is a little harder than other cars because you have to run the wires from the trunk. But running the wires wasn't as hard as I thought. If I had to do it again, I could probably do it in an hour and a half, but since this was my first try it probably took me about 4 hours including getting online for videos. I also called support one time and they were excellent. The only reason I didn't put 5 stars was because there were several sets of instructions so I got a little confused and the screws that came with it to wedge the face shield were too short. But overall I would say this is very do-able with the kit.
Pros: - complete kit, everything that was needed - everything "fit", the new front panel looks great and the stereo is secure
Cons: - instructions were bare boned, but was able to get through it
It was easy to set up and use! Only issue was that it didn't tell me that I needed an 8 foot long cable for the 2005 Ford Taurus that I own! Apparently the stereo is in the trunk of the car. It took a bit of finagling but we got it all situated! Customer Service Rocked in helping me get it set up.
Pros: Awesome it was all together and clearly labeled
Cons: Not clear that some cars needed 8 feet of cable to be strung through the car to the trunk.
It a good kit
Pros: It lets me remove factory stereo & a good one in !
Cons: For price u would think it wouldn't seem like it was a cheap kit .
fit good, looks good, and with the stereo I bought the price was right, had everything in the box that was needed
Pros: all good
Pros: Easy install, great price
Good product that does everything it's supposed to do!!
Pros: Simple installation!!
Cons: Kind of cheaply built!!
Perfect fit, easy to mount.
Pros: The only way to put aftermarket receiver in 2004 Mercury Sable.
Got this for my 04 Taurus. Wiring from the trunk was a bit tedious, but did it in about 45 minutes. Front kit looks a bit better than the pictures on the internet.
Pros: Was able to do most of the upgrade in my house during the winter Kit fits great
Cons: Couldn't understand the ISO mount, this was my first time
Did and install in my Ford Taurus and all the hookups need to be done in the trunk. This kit had everything required and gave perfect instructions. What I thought was going to be a nightmare of a job took only 90 mins. I would never buy from anywhere else ever again. Everything you need is in the kit.
Pros: Ease of use Instructions clear Made complicated install easy
This adapter makes it possible to use an aftermarket receiver in a Taurus. Since Ford puts the antenna and radio unit in the trunk the installation is much more lengthy than others but the wiring/dash adapter works well. Now the vehicle has Bluetooth, hands-free calling and great sound.
Pros: Dash adapter fits properly Wiring harness is the proper length Heater and A/C controls fit well Rear defroster control operates normally Passenger air bag light works properly
Cons: Directions could be more detailed including wiring diagrams
Very easy to instal on a 06 taurus fit perfect looks like a lot of wires but it's very easy matching colors nothing else has to be tamper
Have another radio installed in a 2002 Taurus and couldn't get the Metra Kit. Had to settle for the "other" available kit which was far less robust and much cheaper appearance. Easy with a capital E!
Pros: Quick and Dirty!
Installed this into my 2006 Ford Taurus SE, and it fit perfectly.
It had every thing it should have in an adapter kit that is going to get you back to "With Tunes" I only had a one small issue with it; the knobs and area that they are in the vicinity of: the lighted parts, they were only stickers instead of plastic that light could shine through. Much less durable as well as not so desirable. I know if I ever have a problem with it, it will be a thorn in my side. But the rest of it was awesome! I'd say it was set up with options and the right ones too! Overall the stickers haven't been an issue and it is a good product and I'd buy it again, as well as recommend it to someone looking to do the same.
It didn't allow my CD player fit flush in the deck an knobs keep coming off only the fan speed one. Thanks to Crutchfield. Got it at a great price
Pros: Looks nice gets the job done
Cons: Knobs pop off an doesn't allow for my head unit to set flush
The Metra 99-5717C Factory Integration Adapter is well worth the money I spent. It definitely completes my install and gives it that professional look. This was my first time doing anything like this and am very pleased with everything about my purchase. Thank you very much!!
This adapter made replacing the radio in a 2007 Ford Taurus simple.
Other than the passenger airbag off light and the rear defrost button looking cheap the dash kit looks and functions well.
Clear instructions made using this kit easy. You do not need antenna adapter if using the cable that comes with this kit.
Cons: One pin in multi-pin connector pushed out thus making rear window defogger inop. A little troubleshooting found this and easily pushed pin back in place.
Looked somewhat cheap in the box but ok with it installed
The unit comes complete like all the Crutchfield products I've used. The adapter seemed expensive until I opened the package and saw that to accommodate the silliness Ford built into the factory cover, the adapter needed to replace one factor climate control switch, the airbag indicator, the rear defrost switch and provide a face plate for the other two climate controls. That and the long antennae and wire loom to reach the tuner that Ford placed in the trunk.
Pros: Kit is complete and well documented.
Cons: None - then did a good job replacing Ford's silliness.
Product was easy to connect as well as to install, Took abit of Care to enclose all the wiring back into the dash. The arranging of your wiring pack from the rear to the dash takes alittle thought, but after hiding the wires and routing around the Glovebox, it was cool. Great Kit !
Pros: Step by Step Directions, Looks Professional once Installed
Cons: The little Passenger Airbag Sticker looks Cheap, but Hey, its a Great Product overall.
Product looks great in dash. Fits perfectly if installed correctly.
Pros: Easy to install and run wires. First time installing a unit.
Cons: Problems finding ash tray light wire. Ended up connecting orange wire to the red acc wire.
This kit may cost an arm and a leg with getting the head unit, but the price is well worth it, it sits right flush with dash and this is the first time I haven't used the provided head units trim ring but rather the dash kit's trim ring and it looks great
Pros: Flush, not too cheap looking, decently easy to install, just have to remove a few panels to run the wiring, but the wiring was of perfect length
Cons: None, well the rear defroster button looks funky, but I don't care
I was very pleased with the fit and finish of the product. The instructions were excellent and you're left with an installation that just looks great. The install on the Taurus is a bit more complicated than some car due to the need to run wires to the trunk, move the AC controls to the new dash adapter, and splice into an existing wire. However, with the instructions given anyone with some basic tools can do this if you'll read and follow the instructions.
Pros: Great solution for upgrading the stereo in the Taurus with a very professional look. Price (particularly if bought with a new head unit) is very reasonable.
Installed pretty easily. Was reasonably priced and fit well in my car
Pros: EAse of installation.
Cons: to light it up, have to splice into another line on my car. this causes shorts and my heater not to work correctly.
Perfect fit. Perfect color. Rear window defrost button is pure square shaped where original was rounded corners & edges. Easy to install.
Pros: Exactly what is needed to retrofit this car's dash from OEM radio to aftermarket 1-Din radios.
Cons: Square cornered rear defrost button (minor appearance)
I have to say for the price its a very cheap looking. But yes it does what it is suppose to do and thats hold you after market radio
I am super picky for starters but isn't that what reviews are for. This product fit my Taurus and functioned properly but it gives off a cheap appearance. I guess for the price its what you could expect where I really didn't want to spend 150 plus dollars like the local car stereo dealerships where offering.
Here are some of the features that I think could be improved:
1. The texture of the material on its face (maybe smooth instead of rough with a higher quality plastic used).
2. The three rotating dials that you remove from the stock unit and place onto this unit drag and they have a lot more wobble. They can pull off a lot easier.
3. The airbag light looks very cheap where you can see that its glued in where the sticker that says airbag is glued on too. I'd remove it but it looks like it's super glued where the plastic will be affected.
5. Defrost button appears to be a really cheap push in unit where a higher quality/tighter rocker switch would have been a huge improvement. I'd pay another 10 bucks for a better switch.
4. The areas that light up around the dials and illustrate more heat, more cool air, fan speed and how the air comes out at you are stickers where the red and blue colors are way off from the stock unit.
Overall it looks like a add on unit and you definitely notice it. On the flip side it does what its supposed to do and at an affordable price.
i installed this on my 2005 taurus se with manual climate controls. this adapter
looks great and is easy to install had a couple of questions just due to the
fact i have little experience in car audio installation but the guys with
crutchfield tech support are great!!! but the unit is very simple!
Just confirming what Brent wrote. I used this item to install a Kenwood unit in my 2005 Taurus SEL with manual climate controls. It works fine! Crutchfield should change database information about the SEL model. They might be losing sales because of it.
[Editor's Note: Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have expanded out database to show w/Automatic Climate Controls and w/o Automatic Climate Controls.]
This adapter works great and wasn't too hard to install, the hardest part for me was pulling out the factory radio (it didn't want to leave)--I would have thought that running the bypass cord would have been the hardest.
Here are some notes about the install that I wasn't aware of:
This kit comes with an 18 foot bypass cord (well it's a series of cords bound together for each of your speakers and antenna) you must run from the trunk to the dash cavity because Ford had the great idea to put the radio in the trunk of the car. Yes, you heard me right, the factory radio you see in the dash is just the control unit and CD drive, this probably explains why iPod radio adapters never worked well in your Taurus despite working in a different car just fine. This process isn't too bad to do, the scuff plates and back seat come out fairly easy.
Also, I suggest you purchase some cable conduit/cable loom to help hide and protect the bypass cord where it gets exposed or possibly abused like in the trunk, under the rear seat and where it comes up from under the front scuff plate to head into the dash (this cable conduit looks like a dryer's drain hose with a slit down the side of it.
I hope by me telling you this removes a surprise from your receiver upgrade project.
This adapter fit perfectly in my 2005 Taurus. The Sony CD player I purchased wasn't easy to get in due to a metal bracket being in the way of the RCA plugs but...nothing a pair of heavy snips couldn't fix.
The description says it doesn't work with the SEL Trim Line but it does. I think if your car has a digital themostat then it doesn't. The easiest stereo install I've done. The worst part was running new speaker wire wich isn't that hard. I bought this with the Kenwood KDC-X692, pioneer 4 way 6x8 and a compact 400 watt rms powered sub. System sounds great.
This product does exactly what it is meant to do. The only problem i had was from Ford and not so much the adapter itself. Ford engineering has got to come up with better designs. Other that that the product was easy to install (once the Ford issue was taken care of) and works great.

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Krissy Feb 23, 2015 ] Staff
