The mounting kit worked perfect for my wife's 2006 Focus install of a single DIN Pioneer headunit. Gave 4 stars because of the directions.

Pros: Worked as intended. No Surprises.

Cons: The instructions are less than stellar. It is not really complicated once you sit down and start working so it was not that big of a deal.

Worked great, first time.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This adapter worked great in my 2005 Focus. I had a little trouble mounting the DIN bracket, as the picture in the instructions was pretty small, but once you slide it in, it was pretty clear which pins needed to be bent to hold it in place. I was a bit worried putting it in that I would mount it to find that it would be off-center enough that the trim panel for the heater controls wouldn't fit, but they use genius method of pins into mounting holes to get in exactly the right spot. Sweet!

Pros: Easy to use; thorough instructions; good fit; adds a little sunglass holder pocket, vs the (huge) factory radio.

Cons: Pics in the instructions could have been larger/sharper, but the descriptions helped fill in.

Alterations to fit 2007 Focus

The fit and finish on this product isn't the greatest. In order to actually fit in the dash of my 2007 Focus, I had to cut the plastic brackets down a bit. Other than that, it fit as-expected.

Pros: Had everything needed for the installation.

Cons: Had to be altered a bit in order to actually fit.

The adapter was easy to install, and the finished product looks good. Neither the radio nor the Installation kit came with the #10-32 screws needed to mount the adapter brackets to the radio. Fortunately, standard #10-32 ground screws common to electrical devices worked just fine.

Pros: Installation was easy, and the finished product looks good.

Cons: The directions were a bit vague and may make installation by a novice more difficult than necessary.

The unit fits well int he Ford F250 we bought it for but there are no reliefs in the sides for the deck removal tools so it's pretty difficult to get the stereo out of the adapter once installed.

Pros: Fits dash well, easy install.

Cons: Hard to remove deck once installed as deck removal tools don't fit between the deck and the adapter.

This installation kit worked out fine. After figuring out that there were parts for two different types of install, and picking one, I found the install easy, and it looks fine installed in my Focus. I used it to install a Pioneer DEH-X5500HD in a 2007 Focus wagon.

Pros: Fits the car and radio just fine.

Cons: Intall instructions are a bit hard to read, and not as clear as I would have wanted for the two install options.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's cheap, but it works. It's all plastic, unlike the heavy aluminum mounting bracket of the original Ford/Delco radio. Unfortunately, you have to use the snap-in bezel that came with it, which was not a perfect fit, and I had to sand the plastic a little to get it to snap in perfectly. Also, unfortunately, the bezel that came with my new car stereo, which was better looking, would not fit and had to be removed. Also, you have to use the side rails to put it all together, but neither this kit nor the new car stereo came with the necessary screws to attach them. Other than that, it works, and fills the old hole nicely.

Pros: It works, fills the old hole nicely.

Cons: It's kinda cheap, no screws to mount the side rails.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This should have been a 20 minute mounting job except that a crucial piece of instruction did not get included. I was leery of the plastic mounting brackets, but once everything was put together and installed it seems to be secure and solid enough. This is a good thing since there are not a whole lot of options available in the way of mounting kits. Once in the dash, it is functional, bland and looks a bit generic and plastic, but still quite acceptable. Time will tell of the plastic screw mounts will hold up to the rigors of automotive use.

Pros: Fits Easy to assemble, if all the instructions are included.

Cons: All plastic, including screw mounts Does nothing to enhance the dash or receiver's appearance

I was disappointed that I could not chose if the storage area could be on the top or the bottom when installed. I would have liked to have it at the top but does look good with it below. I also was not happy with the way the radio mounted. It sat back too far in the mount and looked "goofy". I took alot of time to modife the filler plate provided to get the radio mount to fit inside it and sit flush.

My application was an F-350. This part can't be the best available unless everything has gotten this cheap. The plastic is too flimsy and the opening is not filled by the part. There is 2-3mm around the entire part that allows the flimsy plastic to oscillate and make the radio display unreadable. I have another of this same part that was bought from crutchfield about 8 years ago and that one is solid. But - it's going in another vehicle.

The dash kit fits the dash quite well. It is flush and looks good, however, the Alpine HU fit was a bit different. I toyed with this and could not make it any better but the HU is recessed slightly, not flush at all. Not a drastic problem but the fit as far as the HU being flush with the dash kit is a tad annoying.

It's Good In My '05 Focus

Written by: Kristine from Central Jersey on November 4, 2008

So I got this free with my radio order. It's pretty flush in my car; a little tiny bit crooked but on my own fault. I don't get any vibrations or movement like others have experienced; I bent a whole bunch of those tabs back! I also didn't need the brackets to install it (they wouldn't possibly fit!). It was my first install and I'm pleased with this kit.

Nice fit

Written by: Michael from Littlefield, Tx on May 9, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit looks good
and works great for
a 07 F250 with an
alpine 9855 head
unit. I agree with
some of the other
reviewers about the
head unit not
feeling very secure
in the
adapter/bracket.

My solution:
1. Secure the head
unit brackets to the
head unit like
normal.
2. Slide the head
unit in the main
bracket, doing a dry
fit making sure that
the head unit sits
correctly in the
main bracket.
3. I took an awl
(like the ones on a
swiss army knife you
could also use
a drill but, be
careful not to split
the plastic) and
drilled a hole in
the side
of the main bracket
(the part that
attaches to the
dash) in line with
one
of the screws that
was attaching the
head unit bracket to
the head unit.
I then took the
head unit out and
removed the screw
that i had drilled a
hole for. I slid
the head unit back
in the main bracket.
5. Last I took some
washers to fill the
gap between the main
bracket and
the head unit
bracket. I found
some longer screws
(make sure they
are not too long
cause you can break
your head unit) and
put this screw
though the main
bracket hole I
drilled, though the
washers, though the
head unit bracket,
and in to the head
unit making it all
one piece.

I did this for both
sides of the
bracket.
This makes it attach
like the factory
unit and is very
secure.

I wish i could
attach a picture,
cause it would be
worth a thousand
words.
I'm not sure if this
will work for other
vehicles, but it
should work for all
F250s like the 07
model.

I have to agree with the fact that it needs to be better anchored or more sturdy. Rough gravel road really makes it shake and rattle. Nice fit easy install. Going to see if I can beef it up a little bit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Receiver kit does fit, however it needs to have better anchors (possibly metal) to hold it in place with the truck screw holes. It shakes a lot going over rough terrain while the factory radio did not. Also, this kit needs to be reversible, so that you can put the radio on the bottom and the pocket on top. I believe that would solve most of the vibration.

Does Just What it Says It Will Do

Written by: Larry from Yarmouth, Maine on November 24, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit fit perfectly and, as is usual with Crutchfield products, it took longer to unpack it than install it. The only concern I have is that the built-in Family Entertainment System (rear seat DVD player) no longer functions with this kit. I called technical support which told me there was no way to connect the FES to the new radio with that kit and no other kits were available. I was able to wire around the radio to get the wireless headphones working with the DVD player, but it no longer plays through the stereo. Bottom line: think twice about changing the radio if you have a Ford Family Entertainment System.
