typical kit

Written By Russ in RI, Johnston, RI on Sunday, November 16, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Everything that I don't like in a kit.

Pros: N/A

Cons: Looks like an after market universal kit. Fitment isn't good, width is too big for factory opening. Had to modify factory faceplate. Everything I excepted in a kit. Had to give 1 star which is unwarranted!!

Great Mount

Written By GeoffB, Bedford, MA on Friday, October 03, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great mount for my new sony radio. The installation was simple and everything fit. The quality is good but not amazing. I had a little trouble getting the spacer brackets to fit in place properly but now that the dash kit is installed everything is tight and snug. The little storage area is a nice upgrade to my formally double thick radio.

Pros: Fits tightly in my Ford fusion. Simple installation and decent quality.

Cons: Directions were a little complicated but made sense after I reviewed them carefully. The spacer brackets didn't fit perfectly into the mounting slots but the end result is still a nice tight attachment to my cars dash.

made the new stereo install super easy.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works well in F 150 truck year 2008

Pros: easy to assemble and in stall. Went in just as instructions showed.

Cons: the whole thing is plastic so the clips that lock the radio in place do not hold all that tight, you could if you have the mind to pull the radio out with not much effort.

Metra Install Kit

Written By AdrianB, Dallas, TX on Thursday, February 13, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Meh. Plastic. It works, though. Lots of parts I did not use, and instructions can be a bit murky. I guess that if your vehicle is not mentioned specifically in the instructions, the bag full of other parts are not required. This is what I found.

Pros: It worked, and radio head end seems to be firmly mounted. Hopefully, it will survive the Texas summer heat.

Cons: A bit generic, and the finish is a bit so-so on a DIN mount.

Worked perfect, very happy with how clean the installation looks. Plastic of this kit is slightly darker than the surrounding plastic of my truck. Also had a bit of a trial and error trying to mount the stereo in it properly, the instructions were not that clear.

Pros: Fits perfectly

Cons: Instructions need some help

Worked OK

Written By RJH, Georgia on Thursday, December 13, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It worked OK and looks good once installed including the added cubbyhole for CD's etc. The instructions could have been MUCH clearer, then I wouldn't have had to contact Crutchfield technical support. My radio (Pioneer DEH4400HD) came with the cage installed and the instructions did not mention having to remove the cage, then installing into the dash kit before sliding the radio into it. I don't install radios for a living and it has been at least 20 years since the last time I installed one. It would be nice to be a little more detailed with the instructions. The kit did arrive with one broken tab, but I SuperGlued it so no worries really.

Pros: Looks good, works good.

Cons: POOR instructions

2011 Ford F450 Super Duty

Written By Stajdanley, Durham, NC on Sunday, July 01, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Received this kit with my JVC KDX50BT radio in order to replace my Double DIN factory AM/FM radio. The included instructions are simple and very easy to follow and the kit fits perfectly into the truck. The only problem I had was with the JVC radio not fitting perfectly into the harness. It is sunken back about a 1/4 of an inch and I can just barely see inside the dash around the edges of the radio head. Not really a big deal, since it is in a work vehicle. If it had been for my personal vehicle, I probably would have rated it a bit lower. I am also not beyond saying that the radio not fitting properly could have been an error on my part.

All in all, this is a solid, well-fitting kit that worked out great in my work truck (2011 Ford F-450 Super Duty).

Pros: Good quality, Fits in dash where Double DIN radio was perfectly, cubby hole under radio is very useful.

Cons: Radio would not install flush with kit.

Sorry looking thing

Written By Danny R, Rockville, MD on Thursday, May 31, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I can't believe Crutchfield would ship something of this low quality with the rest of their outstanding products. The piece "works" well enough, but it just makes the whole center stack look like someone didn't care enough to do the job right. This thing would've gone straight to the trash if I'd have known how it looked once installed. I'll be shopping around for better looking dash/receiver kit. It just sucks that I'm going to have to pull the dash apart again. I absolutely HATE not being able to do something right the first time.

Pros: Free. Worth every penny.

Cons: Ugly. Cheap. Flimsy.

Fits ok, but could be nicer.

Written By fliersrr, Watertown, NY on Saturday, May 26, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Does fit the vehicle, but could be nicer looking and beter made.

Pros: Works.

Cons: Center partition between the radio and the shielf is justone thin piece of plastic that pows down and looks bad. The top and bottom are about 1/4" and work well. Center should have been 1/4" so it would not bow down.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit fits perfect in 2008 F-150 . Looks really good , not cheap looking . Used washers with the screws when installing , so no damage to the hinges . Also , this kit comes with the stereo trim ring . I left the Alpine trim ring on the Alpine stereo , & then installed the kit trim ring over it , and it fits perfectly . This covers any small openings that a few others have complained of .

Cons: none

Don't tighten the screws...

Written By Shane, Southern CA on Monday, September 19, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put this in my 2008 F150 and it looks good enough and fits fine. My only issue is that I like to make sure the screws in my cars are tight so I don't have to listen to rattling, but the plastic for the screw flanges is flimsy enough that they all cracked under the pressure of the screws and this thing will need to be replaced should I ever have to take the radio out again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good but not great - fits properly and does the job, but the look of the part just isn't quite OEM. The plastic isn't quite the same finish as the surrounding dash, and the gap between is a little uneven. It is better than anything I could have come up with myself.

I put this in my 2008 F150 XL. It works, but it's flimsy. The plastic will break easily. The screws sent with it were drill-tipped and long and would've damaged my receiver if I had attempted to use them. Thankfully, the right screws were sent with my receiver.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2007 Ford F150. The kit made it easey for me to install my unit. I did most of it on my kitchen table, went to my garage and switched the units in about 15 minutes. I'm satisfied. I like the extra tray that I use for holding my mp3 player, phone and the rest of my junk.

This one does not fit well.

Written By Ray, Denver, NC on Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit does not work well at all. I have been driving Ford E-250 service vans for a long time and it was a snap to put in a sound system when I got a new van or changed jobs. The older ones Crutchfield had sent along with the head units I purchased worked well. This one is more than to be desired. The unit can never be tight in this product and the plastic surround that completes the install will not fit properly and when you try to rotate the faceplate down to remove the CD disk, the volumne control hits it and you cannot remove the CD. I am very dissapointed in this aftermarket piece.

Does the job

Used on a 2008 F250 SD. Crutchfield did not have a Master sheet for this truck but the instructions provided in the kit did show a small diagram. Nothing hard or complicated. Looks okay in the dash. I like the pocket for CD's.

Not for 2005 F150

Written By Johnie, Comanche, TX on Saturday, April 18, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit doesn't work well with the dash of an F150. I tried mounting it several ways, but the receiver was countersunk and did not look good at all, much less have a factory fit. I will probably end up getting an install kit from the local stereo shop. Worst part is, I could have bought a $99 receiver and been just as happy, but I bought the more expensive one cause it was actually cheaper when you took into account the "free install kit." Bummer.
