All things considered, this is fine, but a couple things irked me. First of all, this has no texture like the factory unit. Not the end of the world though, but I did like the stock texture. The main issue is the holes for the climate control buttons aren't quite right. My buttons jammed when I first put this in. Trying to free them ended up dinging up the surround and the buttons, which annoys me. Ended up having to loosen the screws securing the whole climate control unit to have a bit of give and allow the buttons to travel, but they are still a little sticky.
Pros: A lot easier than cutting up the stock unit
Cons: Different texture/finish to stock unit; doesn't fit climate control buttons properly; doesn't have all the same clips as the stock unit
Looks just like my old one, just newer looking. Fits in place perfectly. Same build quality as the original.
Perfect color, texture is different than the stock one but not an issue. Have not installed it yet as I am waiting for my stereo to come in, only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.
Pros: Color and apparent fit
Cons: Different texture than stock.
Great product, 1/2 price is amazing.
Pros: Great deal , 1/2 price is best.
Not having installed an aftermarket head unit, I learned a couple of things. My replacement head unit, a relatively inexpensive Pioneer, comes with a "cage" already installed over the chassis. Not realizing this and trying to follow the instructions, I was trying to use the plastic things that come with this to attach to the head unit before inserting. Of course it didn't fit and I was a little puzzled until I looked a little closer at the head unit and realized what the directions were describing. I literally didn't use any of the "additional" stuff that came with this piece. Just the main big piece and the little cubby piece. I just fit the head unit into the top open bay and four metal locking tabs secured it perfectly. Also, if you have the stock "non Rockford Fosgate" stereo in the Xterra, do youself a favor and take the A/C vents off using the four easily engaged release tabs. It'll make getting the stock unit out easier.
Pros: Does exactly what it needs to do at a great price
Cons: not a thing
This has been a long time coming, but was worth the wait. Got the kit and a perfect fit
Pros: Easy instruction
Used this dash kit on my 09 Frontier a few years ago and recently installed it on my '12 Frontier. Perfect fit each time and very easy to work with. Only small issue I had both times was cutting out the divider in the middle to make it a Double Din opening. Other than that its a nice product and fits well.
Pros: Fits perfectly and easy to reassemble A/C unit and new HU into the kit.
Cons: cutting out the divider to make it double-din is a little tricky... maybe its just me.
Fits perfectly on 2011 Xterra, tight fit with no gaps and operates nicely. Color is off and didn't match interior.
Pros: Good fit
It's a great fit to my 2011 Nissan Xterra, color didn't match exactly to the stock one, better order black even though dash is grey. Overall looks good in my car with new double din from Pioneer.
The kit was really clear and went in no problem, even for a guy like me with 5 thumbs per hand. The instructions were really clear and helped immensely.
Pros: Clear instructions! Great for a seat-of-the-pants operator like I tend to be.
The Crutchfield directions were better than the manufacturers.
I mounted a double DIN unit using this installation kit in my 2012 Nissan Xterra; As several others mentioned, the color matches quite well however the kit has a smooth finish as opposed to the textured OEM finish. Personally I don't have a real issue with this however some people might. Also, the small frame that snaps into the double DIN opening isn't totally secure - hasn't fallen out however you can tell it is not a perfect fit.
The unit I mounted however seems pretty secure and the overall look and feel is quite good imho.
Pros: - Easy to install - Double DIN unit well secured - Overall fit and finish quite good.
Cons: - Factory OEM finish not precise - Thin plastic snap-in frame for double DIN opening not a perfectly snug fit
Overall the unit is pretty nice....stereo unit fit nicely and seems secure, the finish is not like the factory finish (not that big a deal)....but the ventilation control buttons seem a little tight...like they don't let the buttons operate properly....I'm going to take another look to see if there is anything that can be done with that...came free with the stereo...not sure if there are better options, but all in all, not bad.
Fit perfect. Exactly what I wanted
Pros: Looks and price
Cons: Nothing bad about it.
These Metra's always seem to deliver with factory screw placement, fit, and finish. I wasn't sure about the change in colour on mine (from charcoal to light grey), but it worked nicely in my 2012 frontier.
Pros: Exactly like factory fit, finish, and feel.
Cons: It has 2 less anchor points than the factory and causes the screw on the very top to vibrate the dash trey. Will be installing a nylon washer to see if that will rectify the problem.
It looks good in the dash with a double din. I have a Nissan Frontier. It doesn't have the textured finish like the factory but once I got it in it didn't bother me as much as I though it would. The small trim around the radio face could be better, it fits a little lose. It certainly makes the radio look like it fits in my truck better than previous aftermarket installs I've had.
Pros: Easy to use Looks good
Cons: small trim a little lose and no texture
First rate installation kit. Everything came together easily. If the wiring harness instructions were clearer (separate review) this could have been a 20 min installation
Good overall. Did not have same texture as OEM panel, but made of nice material and still blends in well. The single DIN ISO mounting brackets did not snap in as positively as I would have liked. It tried to pop out twice before I got it mounted to the vehicle. Using the radio bracket instead might have actually been more secure. A metal strap to mount the rear of the chassis to the dash frame was not mentioned in the instructions, but might be a good idea on the ISO mount.
Pros: Nice appearance & fit, decent instructions, well made overall.
Cons: Single DIN ISO mount could be stouter.
I've used many dash kits from Crutchfield over the years and every one of them fits the vehicle perfectly. They always come with very clear instructions as well. This goes for the wiring adapter kits as well.
Pros: Fits perfectly Color matches decor of the vehicle Well written and illustrated instructions
Great piece. Solid build and the matte black finish looks great with the rest of the dash.
Pros: Fits perfectly into the dash, very easy installation.
Cons: The piece that snaps in around the face of the headunit doesn't seem to snap all the way into place. It is secure, but doesn't look flush all the way around.
Blends right into the dash to look just like the factory version.
Perfect fit and secure mount of head unit
This thing was much better than i expected. The quality of the product was superb. It looks as good or better than my factory dash. It was easy to use and sturdy.
Pros: High Quality Easy to install
Product fits vehicle properly. Seems a bit flimsy compared to the factory part, and also the recommended color is a quite a bit lighter than the factory color. Not a huge issue, but probably a little bit more effort could have been done to find a closer (darker) color. Other than that, no complaints.
Pros: fits properly, easy to install
Cons: flimsy, grey color is not as dark as the factory Xterra interior.
Everything we have gotten from crutchfield has been just perfect! We ordered a wrong part to install my new radio but one email and they sent us what we needed fast! I've been telling everyone to use them!
no factory texture, but color matches well... and fit was good.
Pros: looks good
Cons: no texture
This kit made upgrading my Nissan Frontier's factory system super easy. The instructions from Crutchfield guided me through the process and the final result looks like factory quality.
Pros: Great look and fit A breeze to install
Santa used this kit to install my new pioneer double DIN unit for Christmas in my Xterra, custom but stock look! I love it!
Dash kit is worth every cent. Easy install and easily understood instructions.
Pros: Easy install, Instructions very detailed
This dash kit is great. Perfect fit, and doesn't look like some of the cheep, cheesy ones out there.
Pros: Fit and finish.
This new facade for the GPS Receiver complements the decor of my vehicle.
Pros: Perfect fit for the new installation and esthetically pleasing.
I thought it was going to be very cheaply made and fitment would be way off from the reviews. Everything fit perfect from the climate controls down to the panel. You just have to align the spacing left to right on the panel before you screw it down.
Pros: Great product, even though it's a smooth flat black. It's not noticeable.
Cons: No texture like the oem Frontier panel.
The metra dash kit for nissan xterra and frontier models is awesome. Very easy to install and has the look that it belongs as part of the cars interior.
Pros: Very easy to install. Took very little time.
Cons: No cons really
excellent fit and looks great
Pros: great product looks factory made
This mount kit has a different finish than the existing dash, it's smooth instead of the textured existing, nothing major just a personal preference, the real issue with the kit is the double din trim plate, it did not fit for me and constantly pops off, without it I have a nice gap.
Pros: It works
Cons: Does not match existing texture and double din trim plate fits poorly.
If you are taking the stock head unit out of most vehicles, a standard double or single din unit won't fit without this adaptor. Looks great!
Pros: Great Looks & Fit. Simple to use. And Crutchfield included it free with the head unit. Can't beat that.
The installment off without a hitch and I love the look of the new housing
Pros: Fits like a glove
This part does not fit the 2012 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab "S" model.
Pros: Might be great fit for the SL model of the truck.
Cons: Wrong part for the "S" (or base model) truck.
excellent fit and color, looks seamless, very pleased with it
Pros: perfect fit and free
Fit is nowhere as close as factory. Does not fit centered, gap on right side big enough to have to put black tape on the inside to hide it. Otherwise, installation was straightforward.
Pros: Simple Double Din install.
Cons: Tolerances could be improved.
Changed out the factory radio in my 2009 Suzuki Equator. This kit fit extremely well and the directions were on the mark. No problem going from a double din to a single din mount. Extra storage pocket included is nice place to store my iphone while playing through the new stereo. The grey color is lighter than original, but does not stand out or look ugly. Got used to it very quickly. Other than color variance, this scores a 5 to me.
Pros: Excellent fit, with great instructions.
Cons: Very minor, but neither color option is an exact match.
Easy to use
Pros: Looks great
This dash kit was a breeeeze to install. 5 star product!
Pros: Easy to work with
Initially installed this with my AVH-P8400BH, and immediately ordered a different brand (carries other products by this company, but not the dash kit...so left the name out). The trim ring provided with this kit was bowed due to being so thin, and when installed, still left substantial gaps around the chassis/face of the receiver. The mounting did not have any attach points back to the dash, so it depends on the dash pop-tabs for stability and security (unlike the 'other brand' that screws in to the factory dash mounts). The plastic mounting plates (that hold the receiver to the fascia) are flimsy, and the only things holding the receiver into position (vibration is a certainty). Pretty consistent to what I've read on other forums/sites. Gave it 1 star since it was included with my receiver purchase.
The 'other brand' is nearly a perfect mounting match. Was almost able to use the factory metal receiver mounts, but ended up using the plastic ones included with their kit. Seems to hold the receiver stable, and rock solid mounting to dash. Am happy with the new kit.
Cons: Flimsy construction, lacks secure mounting to the vehicle dash, lacks secure mounting of receiver
Perfect fit and easy to use
Cons: Gray was to much of a primer color
Item fit well in place of stock dash kit. The trim around my stereo 'Alpine iDA-X3055' did not fit tight though and had gaps that I can see.
Cons: Trim around head unit does not fit tight.
If you have a grey interior on your car, get a black trim kit, it will look better. I bought both and grey never seems to match right but black will go with anything. I ended up keeping the black and returning the grey kit. I just wish they would be able to match the facytory look to include the dimples. I even thought about attempting to dremel my factory panel and try to rig my new head unit to work with it. Oh well, black does look decent enough. Get black.
Pros: Black looks good but not as good as factory.
Cons: Doesn't look as good as factory. Grey never matches right, get black.
Easy to install. Quality is pretty good.
Pros: Easy to install.
Cons: Quality is pretty good. Missing some of the slots that the oem part uses to attach to the dash, so there are some squeeks and rattles. The pocket below the reciever (single din) is a little warped or bowed. I plan to use a heat gun to bow it the opposite way and may do some hot gluing where it won't show.
Pros: Perfect fit
i'm pretty ambivalent about this kit, which came with am DD size JVC head unit from Crutchfield. The kit is simple, and I thought the plastic was thick and durable. Mounted fine in the original factory opening, and I had no issue remounting the HVAC controls back in the unit. I mounted my radio using the side plastic supports that came with this kit, and the radio is very firmly attached to the dash.
So, what's not to like. My issues were:
- The instructions really leave something to be desired. It goes through how you remove the factory radio from the original frame, but if you use the plastic brackets to support the new radio (which I think you have to... the brackets mount to the black trim using screw points that don't exist on this casting), then you don't need to take the original radio out of the original frame. - The texture of the plastic does not match the original - the original has a "weave" pattern to it, some say carbon fiber look. This is matte plastic. It matches the dash, something I worried about, but does not pop. - I'm stuck with a gap at the top and bottom of my radio where I can see into the dash when the sun is at my back. Not much, but enough to annoy me. Haven't figured out how to fix this one. The trim bezel for the radio won't work, since I'd have to had used the whole radio mounting ring, which from what I can tell won't fit in this casting.
I'm not disappointed enough to redo it, but wish there were a better option.
Pros: Reasonably strong, everything fits (except as noted below), color matches original piece. No concern radio will fall out now that it's installed.
Cons: Gap around radio is annoying, wish it was textured like the original. Concerned it'll show fingerprints like crazy.
The kit fit my truck as good as the factory one. With this kit my new receiver looks factory built.
Pros: The design and color
I read the reviews on this dash kit before ordering my receiver and figured its free and if it doesn't work out I'll buy one of the other dash kits. Man was I pleasantly surprised! Everything went together real smooth and tight. Alignment was spot on, no complaints, and the thing is strong. I mounted a DD chassis in the unit. Yes, it is smooth and not textured like the OEM piece, but it looks great in my truck and I'm very meticulous when it comes to upgrades and mods on my Frontier.
Pros: Strong Alignment is spot on Excellent color match to OEM black
Cons: Not textured, but not a show stopper for me
Not nearly what the original looked like,,
Pros: easy instal
Cons: plain no texture
It works, but not very high quality. Let me start by giving kudos to Crutchfield as the first one I rec'd was defective (incomplete mold) and they replaced it for free and over-nighted the replacement. The unit itself is not much to brag about. It fit the dash poorly and I filled the gaps with black adhesive backed felt (I used it to line the storage box beneath the radio too). I also found the plastic clips that held the radio in place to be very weak and would allow the radio to shift forward. I disassembled the kit and riveted the plastic pieces together to stop the movement. If another choice of Install Kit were available, I would have chosen it.
Pros: Holds radio in place.
Cons: Looks cheap, fits poorly.
Everything fit well except the trim ring for the DD unit. I was concerned about the fact that the unit would not mount to the metal like the factory one did but it is surprisingly secure in this mount. The wiring harness provided by Crutchfield has no ground (black wire says subaru only) the factory unit grounds by the attachments to the metal so you will need to run. A ground wire but the screws that are removed from the metal support will easily hold a ring terminal so it isn't that big of a deal.
Pros: It fits and looks good minus the trim ring for head unit
Cons: DD trim ring could fit better.
The dash kit was very hard to put together but fits perfect and looks so nice with Kenwood DNX6990HD. I love it!!!!! holds very good. I had to cut out the double din stick to put big screen radio in.
I must admit I was pretty skeptical when I pulled this out of the box as it had a lot of plastic (and actually, the stereo is held in place with plastic brackets unlike the OEM stereo which uses metal brackets. I happy to say it is surprisingly sturdy. No squeaks or rattles although winter and colder weather may bring those out? Kit looks very good and fits perfectly.
Pros: Easy to install, looks good
Cons: Plastic brackets that hold stereo in place rather than metal
Thin plastic, warped edges, no place for the factory supports. It did the job but barely, had to file back some of the button holes so them buttons could move freely, have gaps between the trim and the kit, and the single din storage pocket is bowed on all four sides. It went in, it holds my radio, but it screams cheap after market.
Pros: It held the radio
Cons: Had to cut to fit, improvise support brackets, and has a cheap/flimsy look and feel
I bought this for my 2012 Xterra. I found that the color no where near matches the gray in the dash, which is extremely dark. This is more of a medium gray. Black would be closer in color to the existing dash trim, so I'm going to buy one of those to see if it looks better.
Pros: It seems to fit correctly.
Cons: The surface scratches very easily. The surface of the factory trim is extremely rugged; there is no comparison between the two. The whole thing seems to be pretty flimsy, but that is par for the course for these things so I don't know if I'd say it is worse that usual.
The front bezel fit into the factory dash easily. Was a little worried about the left and right sides as I could see a crack of light from the back. Once in place how ever it was perfect Did not show at all.
My truck only uses two of the three switch locations on the bottom portion that is just above the two knob holes. The reason I mention these is because I had to shave these around the edges a bit because depressing the switch would cause it to jam in the down position. I just scraped the edges of the switch hole with a knife, scrap mind not slice. After a few tries the hole was ok with the switch, after depressing it would spring back up.
I used a 1 din receiver and it had some play when using the sleeve that came with the radio. I solved this by wedging and gluing 2 nails onto the top of the sleeve that just happened to fit the gap perfectly. The bezel always hid the gap , I just didn't want the play.
Bezel is a matt black job, not as nice as the one that came with it , but servicable.
Pros: Great fit Easy to install
Cons: tight on the buttons causing them to stick Not as nice a finish as the factory bezel
Build quality is very mediocre. I had a very hard time getting one of the brackets to snap on: had to use use epoxy and two clamps to force it into place. It LOOKS decent once it is installed, but the color seems chosen at random. It doesn't match the xterra gray even remotely. Though it does sort of compliment it. What might work better is getting one of these and repainting it. Alternatively, modifying the Nissan radio mount doesn't look too hard for someone who is confident with a dremel. Though I am loathe to hack up actual car pieces irreversibly.
Pros: It holds the head unit. It is cheap. There are no alternatives, so at least you don't feel like you've made a bad choice!
Cons: It is cheap.
Not sure I ordered the correct conversion packet. The face and bracket were wrong. There was nothing special on my buyers paper to show a special readio so I selected stock. The installer did use the wire harnesses which wer4e just fine. The installer adjusted the original harness to accommodate the new radio.
Pros: Radio fit well into the slot.
Cons: Need a better way to visualize the different faces and harness to insure exactness.
Looks great, fits great, easy to install!
Pros: Looks, fit/finish.
Cons: Only one screw secures it to chassis. Original had 3. Still feels very secure....not concerned.
Easy to use and install. Looked great in 2010 frontier. No complaints
Pros: Looks great. No gaps or squeeks like other reviews. Oh did i say it looks great!
Cons: Wish it had factory finish. But it still looks fantastic
Did not get to use it as it did not seem to match 2011 Nissan Frontier dash.Radio fit fine in factory dash.
Pros: Would have been nice if it were for correct year nissan
Cons: Did not match my Nissan Frontier.
The construction and fit of this kit is very good. It is easy to assemble, the radio mounts very securely. Every fit 100%
Pros: Good fit, secure, easy install.
Cons: Color (gray) could be a bit closer to match the Xterra's interior. Could probably be repainted if it is too much of an issue.
I installed this with a single din receiver, using the lower pocket it included. It looks factory and matches up very well with the dash, but the pocket moves around a little on bumpy roads causing an annoying rattling and squeaking noise, other than that, it works and looks great.
Pros: It fits well, looks good, easy to install.
Cons: Some small gaps, pocket doesn't fit very snug, rattles and squeaks.
Fits okay. Needed to trim two of the tabs of the bigger trim ring to make it fit around the cuddy box for a single din receiver. Also, needed to insert a piece of foam between the underside of the receiver and the top of the cuddy box to squelch a few rattles because the plastic has a lot of flex in it.
Trim fit well. Does not have the dimpled surface like the OEM trim but color matches nicely.
The tolerances around the environmental control buttons and dials were a bit to tight, no matter how much I fiddled with moving the control module around from the install. Additionally, the gap is a bit larger than necessary on the sides. The kit worked for the most part, but so far having done this about a dozen times to different cars, this gave the worst end result.
Generally, the trim kit fits well; however, the final piece of trim around the Pioneer GPS Navigation Receiver (AVIC-X930BT) does not fit, will not fit, cannot modified to fit. I called Customer Service and there is no other piece available to fit. Therefore, the installation looks unfinished (because it is). I have no idea what to do, and neither does Crutchfield CS. Anyone else experience this issue and have a suggestion what to do?
Not the best faceplate I've installed...the cover for my 2006 Tacoma was spot on and fit great, I don't have that much confidence in this one.
The climate control buttons are a tight fit and I had to play around with its mounting to get it to fit just right. I also agree with others that I would like to see more mounting brackets because you only use 1 of the 3 stock mounting screws. Also, there's a noticable gap between the bottom of the radio bezel and the top of the storage compartment.
Overall, it is secure and does the job. The paint/finish is not very impressive, but I haven't yet had any paint scraping or smudging issues as others have had.
It does what it is supposed to do, but it's not quite OEM fit and finish. There are some gaps here and there, there are some rattles/squeaks when going over rough roads. Overall, I'm happy with it for the price I paid (free).
I think a lot of the squeaks would be solved if the kit used all the screws that the OEM dash used. When all was said and done, I was left with 4 or 5 screws that wouldn't go anywhere?
The faceplate is missing the 4 screw holes for mounting the metal brackets to hold the HU. So you have to use a mounting sleeve instead of bolt on brackets which means the unit just lays in there held in place by a couple bent over tabs. The whole thing rattles around quite a bit unless you use a lot of foam or other means like a metal strap. Also without those mounting brackets there is only one screw and a few clips holding the center console in place. Also a previous review was correct, the paint rubs off very easily. I handled it very gingerly while mounting and when finished I wiped it down with a terry towel and windex and two pieces of paint flaked off right above the HU. One more thing, I had to file down the cutout for the defrost button. It was a little tight and the button would stick. And another thing, the storage tray bows which leaves a gap in the middle. If it weren't for that and the paint coming off it would look pretty nice but still insecure.
There's not too much to elaborate on - worked great with JVC nav system and looks stock. Had someone install it for me - they didn't report any issues
Bought this Nissan Frontier kit for my 2010 Suzuki Equator it fit like a glove. Looks great and it was and easy to install.
The trim kit that came with my order made me look like a pro. The dealership
where I purchased my 2011 Xterra could not get over how nice the radio
looked. When I told them I installed it myself, they we really impressed. THANK
first of all, the fact that crutchfield throws in all the necessary install gear
for free is AMAZING. while price shopping both online and locally, i found not
only they had the best deal on the deck i like, but also saved me about $60 in
install gear. to top it off, of the available kits i found locally, NONE of them
fit as perfectly and looked as good as this one. i am amazed that they can
provide this gear for free, and very grateful! i will recommend all my friends
to crutchfield for their purchases of electronics!
if you are wondering if this kit fits well and still retains a factory look, the
answer is yes, absolutely!!!!!!!!!! i am using a single DIN deck, so the
additional storage cubby is also VERY nice to have, and it is sloped at an angle
the NOTHING you put in there will fall out. i use it for my cell phones and it
is the most convenient addition to my vehicle interior since ive owned it!
fits 2011 xterra with ZERO modification
Kit came with detailed instructions for my application. Made the installation a
no brainer! Fit and finish were very good and, although not quite as sturdy as
the factory console, appears to be more than adequate. Original console had
more of a textured finish, which given the choice, I would prefer. However I am
very pleased with the kit which enabled me to have an installation I am proud
of. Thanks Crutchfield!
This install kit is cheap. The brackets that screw into the sides of the stereo so you can can slide the stereo into the din did not even hold the stereo in place. The weight of the radio alone unclips the tabs and it comes out by itself. The pocket does not fit flush with the stereo trim piece that the kit comes with either. And there are also gaps around the lower pocket piece because the pocket bows in on the top and bottom. I'm going to buy another brand kit and re-install it all.
I agree with most other comments, the factory metal brackets that suppported the factory head unit were much more substantial. I actually felt the need to use metal flex-strap I bought to mount the DIN chassis to the torx screws near the ECU controls. Otherwise, the only thing holding the DIN cage into the adapter is the dog-ears on the DIN cage.
As pointed out by another reviewer, there were three screws mounting the factory unit to the metal chassis, but with this adapter there is now only screw and about eight panel clips holding the entire assembly to the truck's chassis. I also used foam placed between the bottom of the DIn unit and the cubby-hole portion of the adapter plate.
My suggestion is to have Metra make a kit that can secure the DIN unit and entire assembly to the truck chassis, more closely to the grade/quality of the factory unit. If Metra is unable to do so, recommend Crutchfield select another vendor to make this adapter.
This kit will also fit a 2009 Suzuki Equator Sport. Too bad the kit itself is
mediocre. There are gaps around the edges where the head unit fits in and around
the edges where the kit fits into the dash. This is a common complaint with the
Metra kit for the Frontier, Equator, and Xterra. I will probably replace it
with the Scosche kit, but for now it at least holds everything in there.
not much to say, does the job and fits well.
This kit is okay, but would be better if you could use the Nissan metal brackets
to mount the unit. My 2010 Frontier has three screws that hold the dashboard
pieces in place, but without the metal brackets, only one screw can be used. The
plastic mounting plates lined up okay with my Clarion CX501 double DIN receiver,
but some of the mounting holes were recessed, and the screws supplied with the
receiver were barely long enough to screw in securely. The black actually
matched up half decently with the factory dash, although you lose the cool
textured pattern on the factory dash piece. I didn't have problems with gaps in
the faceplate the way the single DIN units did. I think the installation looks
pretty good, I'm just more worried about the durability. Not sure how many other
options there are to this kit, but unfortunately the factory dash has custom
openings for the two factory stereos available, so it can't be used.
I bought this dash kit to install my new pioneer double DIN navigation unit. I thought because it was from Crutchfield that it would be High Quality, I was wrong. I received the dash kit and took it to the installer and they wouldn't even use it. It is very poorly made and you will have to custome make some sort of trim ring otherwise you will have a gap on both side of a normal double DIN unit. I will have to agree with the other reviews too, the quality of the material looks like the bottom of a plastic Soda Bottle. It did not match my dash at all. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this product. Spend a little more and go with the Scoshe unit.
I bought this for my 2010 Frontier and I have to say that reading the one review I was
worried. Not the case, the part is just as good as the original. Everything lined up perfect.
The one thing that I would have like to have seen is to have been able to use the original
metal brackets to give it more of a solid feel. From pulling the old system out and installing
the new it took about 20 minutes.
For the price, you get ALOT of installation pieces including the complete dash
faceplate. There is no doubt that this kit would work with any of the year and
model Frontier it states.
I got this piece for my 2010 xterra, now this piece looks great and fits well, but is terribly made. It scratches almost by itself. Its basically the same piece in black, but spray painted grey to match the interior color. The paint however is so poor, that by even dragging your finger across the surface will smudge and scratch the finish.
This product serves its intended purpose but doesn't look great doing it. The fit and finish of the interior hole (i.e. where the HU goes) is pretty poor. I wish metra had just molded an entire plastic sheet over the HU opening with pop outs for signal and double din. The thin center strap does not support a signal din unit well. The HU cage can be seen even with the supplied trim rings installed. The seam match up between the dash and the kit was actually pretty good. I had no issues with sticking heater or ac controls that often occurs when molders get excessive flash in those areas. Overall, I think this unit will work for most but if your doing a show vehicle or are really picky about interior looks you may end up paying for someone to build a custom fiberglass trim ring.
I think the product overall serves its purpose. However some of the parts are cheaply made or don't look very good once they are installed. The main faceplate looks pretty good but the flat finish does not match the glossyness of the pocket insert when using the single DIN configuration. The pocket is not completely straight on all sides which makes it looks like it's bowed in and also creates ugly spaces between your receiver and the receiver. Finally, I wanted to switch to a double DIN receiver I would have to physically cut out the divider. This divider should be removable and replaceable.
