The ASWC-1 adapter from Axxess allows you to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to almost any brand of aftermarket stereo, including Alpine, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, and more. (Note: your new stereo must have a 3.5mm steering wheel control or wired remote control input.)
Installation is a straightforward process. You usually have to connect a few wires to your factory wiring. In most cases, the adapter automatically recognizes the vehicle it's been connected to. If not, you can manually program the adapter for your vehicle by following a step-by-step process with LED confirmation. Once connected, the adapter's memory retains its programming even if battery power is interrupted. A USB slot allows you keep the ASWC-1 current when updates become available. Warranty: 1 year.
Installation Note: This adapter will not retain your vehicle's factory Bluetooth functionality. Please identify your vehicle or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to see if the ASWC-1 adapter is compatible with your vehicle.
Wiring Advisory: You'll usually have to tap or splice into one to three wires in your vehicle at the radio location to connect this interface. If you're using a Metra Axxess OEM integration adapter to connect your new car stereo to your vehicle, then it most likely will have a prewired connector for this Axxess ASWC-1 adapter. In these cases, no additional wiring in required. Axxess does provide custom wiring instructions for all confirmed compatible vehicles on their website.
Instructions were a little sketchy, wiring diagrams weren't the best, but the unit works as it should

everything works, but there is a hiss at zero volume. not sure if it's this harness or the stereo. still trying to figure it out.
I gave this product 3 stars only because I'm not sure if its my fault or the modules. I purchased this module with the other recommended install items for my vehicle per Crutchfield, the instructions for install were vague, but workable and I followed them to the letter as it was put forth in the instructions, hooked it up, nothing! double checked my connections, all is good. So through the good fortune of Youtube, I found an install that mentioned the "Magic Modual" that allows the stereo to play nice with the vehicles "Brain", the iDatalink Maestro RR. Hooked it up with the CH1 harness and "SUCCESS"! it would have been nice to have this little tidbit of info!
Pros: Seems well made
Cons: Vague install instructions
Instructions were a little sketchy, wiring diagrams weren't the best, but the unit works as it should
Pros: Ability to keep steering controls
Cons: directions weren't the best
Excellent product. Easy installation, and works flawlessly. Installed in my f250, and it instantly connected, and started working. Very nice
Works great, but the instructions are useless. We called Crutchfield customer service and found that we had to strip the factory wires in the car to attach this, which is not what the instructions said.
Pros: Works fine once it's installed per proper instructions
Cons: Need new installation instructions
So far works as it should, easy hook up with aftermarket radio. Want to remap a few keys for push to talk, but as far as working out of box, all seems well.
Pros: Quick add on , plug and play. Easy
Cons: Have to pull box out /apart for updates / modding of key mapping, if not using default key setup. But is working fine as advertised.
Very flexible product looks like it will work with just about any vehicle with steering wheel controls. For the SLK it's not perfect because some of the buttons also control the vehicle display and would only control the radio when it was in the display. With this unit installed changing vehicle display mode will also change stations/tracks if programmed for those functions.
Pros: Works great
Cons: Documentation is confusing No online instructions for this vehicle Unit must be visile to program
No issues, works great.
Pros: Works perfect
Easy to follow directions made install a breeze
When I first installed the Axxess steering wheel control adapter with my new Pioneer stereo it didn't work and I wasn't a happy camper. I didn't like the idea of having steering wheel controls that didn't function. Then I pushed the reset button on the adapter and it detected my vehicle and stereo and started working fine. The steering wheel controls now function just like they did with the factory radio.
Pros: Keep steering wheel controls.
Cons: Wiring directions weren't the best.
I purchased this as an add-on to the aftermarket head unit I got in the same sale. Installation was easy once I watched a couple YouTube videos (one from Crutchfield, and another from a user). For the splicing, I recommend getting tap splices, which make installation easy for those of us without much experience in wiring. The controls work just like they did with the factory unit!
Pros: Easy installation (after picking up tap splices from hardware store)
Programmed immediately. Hooked it up to a new Kenwood. I had to connect the blue/yellow remote wire to the brown wire and then insert to the plug into the female end with the brown wire. Nice to have my steering wheel controls back!
Pros: Programs immediately. Calling their customer support is excellent too
Cons: dodgey instructions but it's a breeze.
Amazingly quick and simple to install. All I had to do was connect the blue/grey wire and the ground wire. Once I plugged it into my stereo, it automatically set itself up in about 10 seconds and was ready to go. I looked at the installation diagram on their website and found which wire/pin needed to be spliced on the factory harness. Since the Metra harness I had didn't already have a steering wheel controls pin, I removed a pin/wire from a second metra harness, lined up the correct pin with the factory harness based on the instructions, and added a pin to my Metra harness. Then I was able to solder the Metra harness wire to the ASWC-1 wire without having to cut any factory wiring. Works just like I wanted with no configuration required.
Pros: - Easy to install (just two wires to connect) - Configures itself automatically in about 10 seconds - Small enough to tuck away behind my stereo - No need to cut factory wire if you're willing to buy two harnesses and make a Frankenstein harness
Cons: None so far.
I found the package very easy to set up install and use
Pros: Automatically finds stereo and sets itself up
Cons: Volume control on the steering wheel is too sensitive and sometimes starts song back over
I was thinking this was going to be a difficult task to accomplish, but it was not, the instructions were clear and easy to follow, it took me about ten minutes to pair the device to the steering controls and have them operational.
Pros: Easy access from the steering wheel to all of the stereo system functions without losing focus of the road.
I installed this adapter to a basic Pioneer head unit using the wiring adapter from Crutchfield. I only had to connect power and ground outside of the wiring adapter. Once I turned the power and the ignition on, this thing automatically detected the radio and programmed itself correctly. Easy. However, I decided that I wanted to change up the factory buttons to answer and hang up phone calls. This, too, was easy.
Pros: Easy to install and program. Quick response to button pushes.
Cons: I could not figure out how to reprogram the buttons to scan through radio stations rather than presets. I believe it is a weakness in the Pioneer head unit (or the installer). However, I am still 100% happy with this device.
Product works great with truck and the radio. Instructions are vaig. I called crutchfield and they walked me through setup and answered any questions.
Pros: Works great.
Cons: Instructions vague.
I bought this in conjunction with my new Kenwood receiver. The instructions were fairly straight forward but I ran into some issues with the Metra harness I used (70-5520) for my 2006 Sonata. The harness doesn't have pin 18 or 19 so I had to tap directly into the corresponding wires on the factory harness. Once I did that, everything programmed right away and all of the functions from the steering wheel (Volume, Mode, and Mute). Very pleased to have my controls with my new Kenwood. A great deal as part of the discounted installation accessories from Crutchfield!
Pros: Retains factory steering wheel convenience, Programs itself
Cons: May have to work around wiring harness adapter depending on installation
Have used this on multiple vehicles. Easy to install and use. Best part, it AUTOMATICALLY Programs itself to the car and radio. Worked flawlessly every time. Costs a little more but definitely worth it. And is smaller and takes up less space than other interfaces.
Pros: Easy to use/install, AUTOMATICALLY programs, multiple vehicles, user friendly instructions
Cons: Price slightly higher than other units
I was mentally prepared to be tearing things apart a few times to get this to work properly. I did the firmware update before installing. (always update firmware first on modern electronics!) I put it in for the test (along with an adapter for the aftermarket head unit to the factory amp). It worked perfectly. When I did the final install, it didn't work. I thought "OK, here we go with the headache." TUrns out I knocked the 3.5mm plug loose sliding the head unit in. I plugged it in and took extra care not to bump it too much and 'voila!', perfection.
Pros: Works perfectly in the 4Runner
(I want to start by saying that yes, I have updated the unit through the website) The adapter works well enough. I can change volume and tracks via my steering wheel, which is awesome. The issue for me is whenever I turn my car on, the adapter changes the stereo from one source to the next. For instance, if I leave it on Bluetooth, it will change to radio when I get in the car. If I leave it on the radio it will change to Aux, Aux to CD and so on. This is annoying to me because I was especially looking forward to picking up right where I left off with audio books, whether on my phone through BT, or on an actual CD. If I unplug the adapter, the issue goes away but I have decided I would rather have steering wheel control and live with the inconvenience of changing sources when I get into the vehicle. I know it might seem like a small thing, but it is quite annoying and I am hoping that Axxess will fix the issue in a future update; at which point in time I will revise this review to reflect a 5 star rating.
Pros: Auto detected my car and stereo, allows me to maintain use of my steering wheel controls.
Cons: Forces the stereo to change sources upon startup of the vehicle.
Got tired of fussing with it after four hours Built a box from scratch for my suburban carpeted it in less time than adding this box tap negative wire 50x Left it connected and just put new stereo in said fk it
I tried to get this to work spending over six hours over two days. Contacted Crutchfield technical support, they confirmed that according to the information I provided, the unit was installed correctly. I tried their suggestions and was not successful in getting this to work. I have now put the unit in a drawer until a day with lots' of spare time i will disassemble the dash, take out the radio and contact AXXess support and see if they can get this to work. According to the instructions it should be a no-brainer, just wire it up, turn on the power and press the up volume.
This product works great using a Kenwood X399 head unit in a 2011 Subaru Outback. I updated the firmware before I even got out to the car. One weird thing was the software said it was updating from version 0.00 to 4.11 (the label on the back of the unit said it had version 4.09 installed). Either way, it works and that's all that matters. I would recommend updating the firmware straight out of the box. The instructions were a bit lacking, Well, let me rephrase that. The instructions are a bit lacking if you're not exactly sure what you're looking for. The vehicle has two different wiring harnesses that plug into the stock head unit. Like any one who knows everything about everything I assumed the 2nd harness was for the steering wheel controls. After a lot of head scratching, and Google searching, I figured out that the ASWC-1 wires splice into the primary harness and the secondary harness is no longer used. Once that was sorted out it took about 10 minutes to install. The ASWC-1 correctly identified the stereo brand, and all steering wheel controls work perfectly.
Pros: Fairly easy install. Lots of 3rd party documentation online. Doesn't take up a lot of space. Crutchfield would have walked me through it had I just broken down and called.
Cons: If you've never installed this, or something similar, before read as much as you can before going in. If I learned anything from watching cartoons as a child it's that "knowing is half the battle."
Got this as part of the kit to install a radio in my 2005 Buick Lacrosse. All worked well until I tried using the temperature controls also located on my steering wheel. After attempting to manually program it a few times, I called the manufacturer at the 1-800 number listed in the aswc-1 installation booklet. I was advised that vehicles with climate controls on the steering wheel are "hit or miss" due to the nature of each vehicle. we discussed my issue and unfortunately, I can program the temp buttons to do radio functions, but not any climate controls. If I would have know about this upfront, I wouldn't have been so disappointed since i wasted a good 2 hours rechecking things. The manufacturer needs to state this somewhere for the record, the loss of my temp control buttons isn't a deal breaker for my overall radio installation, but I am disappointed by the situation.
Pros: Easy-ish install, easy to manual program if you need to customize buttons, tech support was knowledgeable when I encountered an Issue
Cons: Not fully compatible with my particular vehicle due to loss of the temp controls on my steering wheel, which isn't stated as a possibility in any of the literature that I saw
The product worked fine easy to install. However it did not work with the deck I bought it for I had to buy a different deck .after that it was almost a plug and play install and works great in my truck.
Cons: When I orderd the product I did not give the model JVC deck I had and salesman did not ask .after I got it and called back tech support was very helpful asked model number and we got it all figured out.
I got it because I thought it would be easy to install in my 2007 nissan titan by myself (who knows nothing about wiring in vehicles). I read the reviews and thought it was going to be real easy to install because the axxess website has installation instructions. I'm not saying anything bad about the instructions but they were not as easy as I was hoping to follow because the color of the wires in my titan did not match the colors in the instructions. I bought the truck from a dealership and it had an aftermarket stereo in it so I have no idea if the original wires were even still there. I had a shop install mine and it works great. It took the shop about 45 minutes to install it and they used the same instructions I would have used from the axxess website. If the wire colors had matched or if I knew which wires were which then I think this product would be very easy to install on your own and it works great in my 2007 nissan titan and with my kenwood dnx572bh.
Pros: Works great and seems easy to install.
Cons: I could not install using the instructions from the axxess website but I think that was because of my lack of knowledge in vehicle wiring.
Was going to go with the PAC alternative, but the Crutchfield Advisor gave me this cheaper alternative. Connection was a breeze,,,and programed itself. You just need to follow the directions for you vehicle.
Pros: Steering wheel controls kept exactly as they were
Cons: Slightly bulky but it fit behind the dash. With Technology nowadays you would think they could make them smaller.
All of the functionality of my steering wheel still work and illuminate like they did before I went with the after marker radio.
Pros: Works as described.
Easy install and got all my steering controls back.
Pros: Easy instal
I have mixed feelings about the Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Controls. I have a 2015 Tahoe LS and I installed the Pioneer AVH-4100NEX along with the Axxess GMOS-LAN-09. On one side, I'm happy to have what limited controls I have, but on the other side, my phone buttons don't work and I lost my back lighting to my steering wheel controls. I called Crutchfield tech support and no one had a clue how to fix the issue. They said they'd never heard of this issue and would check with Axxess, but no one called me back. Very disappointing. But like I said, at least I can turn the volume up and down using my steering wheel controls.
Pros: I can control my volume
Cons: I can't control the phone Lost back lighting for steering wheel controlsCrutchfield response on March 21, 2016 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
I had read a lot of reviews on the AWSC-1 before purchasing and I was a little nervous on if it would "just work" or if I'd have to jump through hoops to program it. Well, for me, it just worked! For starters, I downloaded the update from the Axxess website and "flashed" it using a USB cable I had laying around. The software downloaded and installed on Win. 10 with no issues and then flashed the AWSC-1 and done! I followed the directions and wired it into the Crux SOCGM-17 wiring harness with a Pioneer 380BT head unit. Plugged the harness in to the truck (2004 Silverado), turned the key and voila! it worked. My steering wheel has MUTE, PROG, VOL Up, VOL Dwn, Source, and Seek. All the buttons mapped to the correct function on the radio. There really isn't much else to say. It just worked. But if it didn't, there are detailed directions on how to manually program the unit for your vehicle and radio.
Pros: Everything worked!
Cons: none, for now.
Works grate and very simple to instal if you know your car wiring diagram
Pros: Easy to install and also to program
Just enough information to get it done. Appears to work.
Pros: Steering wheel controls still work.
Cons: Wiring instructions vague.
The diagram provided by Axxess for my 2011 Suzuki Kizashi was inaccurate and made a two hour job quite a bit longer. Luckily Crutchfield customer service was able to steer me in the right direction and get the unit working correctly.
Pros: Retains volume, mute and backward/forwards.
Cons: Sometimes retains mode button.
The steering wheel adaptor works like a champ. It was easy to install.
90% of the steering wheel controls work. The most important controls work. The mute does not. The radio automatically mutes for the phone, but when speaking with someone while pulled over hitting mute was handy.
Pros: The important stuff worked, installation was easy
Cons: it didn't control the mute button
the volume controls work well but nothing else does what it is suppose to. I have gotten use to the new functions.
Pros: keeps the steering wheel buttons working.
Cons: directions are a little fuzzy, and the auto programming didn't work for all buttons correctly
Green wire? This did not successfully connect to steering control.... And GPS? Fughettabout!!,,
Pros: Might work for correct application
Cons: Did nothing
This was a very simple installation, instructions are ok, unit auto detected car and radio and configured itself and it just worked.
Pros: Decent instructions. Auto program mode worked, no fussing required.
Cons: Note at this time.
This is a good product to have for your vehicle only problem is it didnt work on my truck the instructions where pretty easy, but it does not state that it will not work on all stereos after talking to a tech support from Cruthfield i was told that my kenwood stereo was not compatible with this product.
Pros: good if you have the right kind of stereo
Very easy to install No issues
Pros: Regain use of steering controls
This made installation easy. Take time read instructions. Plug n play. Great product and if you run into trouble you got Crutchfield and access for tech support.
Pros: Easy to install
Easy to wire up and works perfect. Had one issue getting it to learn my truck , but one quick call to Crutchfield and I was up and running in no time.
Pros: Works good. Easy to wire.
Cons: Not really a con but I couldn't get it to learn my truck. Quick call to Crutchfield and I was walked through how to set it up.
Product works great it was a simple and easy install all I did was plug and play
very easy to install and didn't take much time.
Everything was Crutchfield was very good regarding this product, however, not all the wire colors matched the instructions from the manufacturer and Axxess tech support on the issue could be improved (the rep was pretty short tempered and not easy to talk to). I became confused talking about 4 different dual-colored wires (green-red and green-gray, etc) and the tech got irritated with me.
Pros: works great. Easy to connect if the wires are colored correctly.
Cons: Did have to splice into 2 wires on vehicle. Axxess tech support not 100% customer friendly.
This worked perfectly for my 2003 Pathfinder. The auto program feature detected my new Kenwood stereo and the steering wheel controls work the same as they did with the factory system.
This kit worked perfectly on my 2006 Volvo V70 Very easy to install. I recommend visiting their site to ensure proper wiring. Must buy
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: instructions are a little vague
This product is sold without the firmware update for 2012 and up Ford Focus. NO ALERT is provided to customer, prior to purchase. It will NOT interface with the steering wheel controls (if installing an aftermarket stereo), without the firmware update.
Cons: Stated in description.
Installed this into my 2002 VW Passat along with a new radio. Took me 7 hours to complete installation, but it works in the end. Well, it depends on you car, to find ignition wire, battery, ground and steering wheel controls. In my Passat everything was not marked so it took me a while to figure it out.
Pros: Does the job, you can program buttons by you desire.
Cons: Installation is ugh..
directions were confusing, but after speaking with tech support from Crutchfield installation went very fast product works great works sons car
Pros: works great with sons car
Cons: directions were very confusing
Works as intended.
It worked the first time I installed it without any setup. Went online and read the instructions and wired it up wasnt hard just took a couple of times to read twice wire once.
Pros: worked without setup.
Cons: lots of unused wires. Didnt retain aux input.
A big part of replacing our stereo was making sure the steering wheel controls work. This was easy to connect and install, did not have to change any of the auto program settings.
The module worked flawlessly fairly easy to install being 90% completed on a work bench the only thing that should be added to the kit are the pins for the plug that will prevent any splicing of wires under the dash
Pros: Plug and play baby
Cons: Needed pins included with kit to complete connections needed on the bench instead of under dash
This product is very important if you're going to use it inside of a Cadillac without it you can not be able to turn your radio up or down on your steering wheel very important easy to install
Pros: Keep the volume control at the tip of your finger
Cons: No real cons just what you need if you're driving a Cadillac
Easy to install, did exactly what it was supposed to. I can now use my steering wheel controls with my Kenwood Double-Din DVD Receiver.
Pros: Easy install, works as advertised
Cons: I wish it had been plug and play
Instructions were a little vague, no explication of where the reset button is. No note explaining that the harness is already in the adapting wiring harness.
Pros: Nice to keep steering wheel controls
Cons: Needs better instructions
Let me start with the application-an aftermarket generic Android head unit in a 2005 Ram pickup. The instructions are clear and concise for the wiring, but re-programming.resetting the ASWC-1 is a little sketchy when not dealing with major-brand aftermarket radios-nothing too bad, though. Ultimately, the ASWC-1 didn't work in this instance. However, the few that seem to have made them work with the Chinese Android units don't tend to elaborate how they got the ASWC-1 to work or there is just sufficient difference in the various head unit models/vehicles to make for literally unique success and failure. I confirmed with Metra and a Crutchfield tech I had wired correctly and tried the re-program options, to no success.
Pros: Simple install-power/ground/steering wheel control trigger wire(s).
Cons: I'd like to see Metra research these Android head units so that more would have success getting the steering wheel controls to work. That said, that's not a defect.
Confusing and complicated. In theory this piece of equipment should be great to have, but found the install to be a real bear. Couldn't tell which wires to install. Called Crutchfield tech support twice. The first time, the tech sounded like he didn't want to help, giving me only short answers. The second time I called the tech spoke way too fast, and I'm not even sure he had the directions for my car because he began referencing colored wires that were different than the instructions from Metra, so that was no help. Called Metra and that kid did nothing but laugh and offer zero advice at all, other than, "You just follow the instructions." I'm about to take the stereo out and put the stock one back in. Either that or i have to spend another $50 to have a pro install the ASWC. This is my first poor experience with Crutchfield.
Pros: In theory, sounds like a good piece of equipment to have
Cons: Install instructions hard to understand. Not as easy to install as everybody is saying (at least for my car). Crutchfield and Metra tech support were not very much help at all.Crutchfield response on February 2, 2016 We forwarded this review back over to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
It was very important to me that my 2004 RAV4 steering wheel controls work with my new head unit -- all I had to do was figure out the wiring harness and power it up.
Pros: Works perfectly
Cons: Wiring was a bit confusing
I installed in a Pontiac Solstice 2008 and the unit was not easy to make it work. Finally after working on it on the second day of installing this unit, with my head clear I make it work . The auto detection did not work ..... I have to do it manually ....
Pros: the controls on the steering wheel work.
Cons: hard to make it work.....
Unit integrated well w/ all my steering wheel controls as expected. No problems w/ it.
What can I say. I tried installing the unit per the directions, which were quite confusing, but I managed. When that didn't work, I tried every conceivable wiring configuration. Nothing. Finally I tossed it, so now I have no steering wheel controls. Whatever.
Pros: It's a box.
Cons: It's a useless box.Crutchfield response on January 20, 2016 Whenever you encounter a problem with anything you purchase from Crutchfield, especially a situation like this, please contact our customer service or tech support teams right away. They can help you solve the problem and get the adapter installed and working! Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
Installed in 2008 F 150 with Kenwood deck. I followed install directions and everything worked without even having to program it!
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Directions are only OK.
easy install and it does what it's supposed to do, first time
This product worked fine after having to reset it twice to recognize the steering controls.
Cons: Instructions could be better, half of the instructions are included, the other half you half to download online.
It was very easy to install.
Update unit first and then its off to install. Fast, easy, an a saves alot of time. You must have
Pros: Easy quick
The adapter works as advertised, but it didn't auto-detect my radio, a JVC KD-X320BTS. Instead of the five red flashes for a JVC radio, I got three flashes for a Clarion type one radio. It was easy enough to manually program the radio type, and now most of the steering wheel controls all work. My phone control buttons in the steering wheel didn't work prior to the install, and require additional programming steps. So they probably still won't work.
Pros: Works as advertised
Cons: The USB port cover wouldn't open, so I could not update the firmware. Programming requires being able to see the LED and possibly push the Reset button - which means that you have to take the dash apart to do it. I moved it behind the trim to the right of the radio so I only have to pry off that trim panel if I need access.
Unit did not work as delivered-it was part of the adapter wiring harness. I had to cut the ground wire ASWC-1 and run it directly to a ground under the dash then it worked as advertised.
Pros: Works as advertised
Cons: Had to rewire it to make it work
It was nice to have my steering wheel controls back after replacing my factory system.
Pros: Works good with my 2001 Honda Accord and JVC KD-R870BT radio. Easy to program. For my car and radio it auto programmed itself. Turned the car on and 30 sec later it was working.
Cons: I wish the factory harness adapter had the steering remote wire so that there was not a need to tap into the factory harness.
Through the stereo I installed not only does it control the stereo, but also controls my phones audio output in both media player and Spotify via Bluetooth.
Pros: Easy Install (after learning the adapter harness included a plug for the box) controls work 100%
Cons: None yet.
I chose the Axxess adapter for its auto-detection. Together with the wiring harness recommended, it performed as promised with the new JVC radio for my daughter's 2005 RAV4.
The set up of this was amazing, the only downside was I had to tap into the car's wiring harness, not the adapter provided by Crutchfield, because not all pins are connected on the Crutchfield connector, so there's no wire to tap into on the adapter. However, in my car it was only 3 wires that I had to splice into. Once it was connected, it took about 10 seconds for the unit to identify which car it was connected to, and auto program itself. I was worried that because the steering wheel controls for the channel/volume/mode are separate (built into the steering wheel) and the controls for Bluetooth is a bolt on dealer option to the steering wheel that it wouldn't control both. But all functions were retained.
Pros: Easy to set up (auto programmed), retained all controls, even dealer add on Bluetooth controls
Cons: Due to the provided wiring harness from Crutchfield not having a pin out for each connector from the car's harness, I had to tap into the wiring harness in the car, not the adapter.
I was relieved when the unit 'recognized' my car's steering wheel. It works perfectly. Installation was a bit tricky - I definitely needed the help of the Crutchfield advisor over the phone when installing. Fifth star withheld only because it would be too easy to make a mistake in the installation. Separate elements of this kit not identified clearly enough with instructions - needs a diagram or two.
Pros: Works perfectly when installed correctly.
Cons: Tricky installation, instructions not explicit enough.
Great product, easy to install once you get the correct directions. The directions that came with it & the Axxess website were not clear on installation directions. I called Crutchfield support at 6:30 pm (CST) on a Saturday and they immediately knew my problem. I didn't need the wiring harness that came with this. I simply plugged it into the other wiring harness (GMOS-LAN-01). I did need the 3.5 mm female plug with the two brown wires. You do need to ground this to the vehicle by itself. The directions said to do this. I did not on the first attempt, but figured it out and it worked just fine.
Pros: Great support from Crutchfield. As soon as they answered the phone, they knew who I was and my order number. Immediately answered my questions. Once installed it did auto detect and worked fine.
Cons: Directions for my vehicle were not clear. I even went to Axxess website and printed off specific directions for my vehicle. This is the only reason I did not give it 5 star rating.
Easy to install, but included instructions were useless. I found installation instructions on their website. Won't auto detect, does not work, I checked all connections, ran through their troubleshooting steps, checked power and check resistance on the ground (I used 2 different fluke multimeters and one craftsman). Only thing left is defective component.
Pros: Inexpensive and wiring was easy enough.
Cons: Never worked. I dunno.Crutchfield response on January 6, 2016 Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to help the customer. We'll either help him get this working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.
Works great. Programmed easily.
Everything works as it should. Only issue that I have is that once in a while the controls stop working until I turn the car off and on again. I don't believe this is due to connection problems since I soldered everything together and also it happened once when I was parked (no movement). It's been fixed every time so far by restarting the car and everything resumes to working as normal.
Works great with my setup
Pros: Automatic programming, easy hookup to the axxess harness
Looked a little intimidating at first, but after watching a couple of videos and studying the instructions further it was easy to install. Works like a charm.
Pros: Easy installation and seamless integration. All steering wheel functions retained.
Cons: Price, maybe, but glad I spent the money.
Spent Hours figuring out which wires to use, calls to support team, only to discover the part is probably defective. A week later, radio still not in, part on order
Pros: If it works it will be cool
Cons: Poor instructions
Simple to install, simple to use with with the Jensen VX7020
Pros: Access to online instructions
Cons: Must have access to a computer to get the installation instructions
Pros: easy installation, auto detected my 2009 honda accord and pioneer head unit.
I heard these things could be a pain so when I saw that this could auto sync with my particular car, I decided this was the one for me. First off let me warn you that the kit that Crutchfield puts together has a wiring housing that is missing wires for section 4 and 14. These are the wires that the adapter wants you to hook it up to. Because they do not exist with what Crutchfield packages it with, you need to hook these directly to the car. This wasn't that big of a deal but it is good to know in advance so you don't think you have the wrong parts. Once we hooked this up and provide power, the adapter synced with the Steering Wheel immediately. It was a lovely thing after trouble shooting so many other issues.
Pros: Syncs for you!
Cons: Crutchfield's wire housing doesn't provide the wires to hook up but that isn't the products problem and it is and easy fix if you know what to expect.
I am impressed. Thought that some of the steering wheel functions would be lost (12 year old truck) with an after market radio install, but after the installation all the steering wheel functions still work. There was not enough length of wire to mount the unit where the update connection can be accessed with out having to pull the radio.
Pros: Performed and advertised
Cons: Length of wires to allow mounting of the unit where it is accessible
seamless integration with steering wheel controls. perfect really as good as stock
I am not a stereo installation genius, but I have done about a dozen in my day (mostly 20 years ago and most on 80's Japanese vehicles). Installing this into my 2004 C240 was a snap. Waaaaaay easier than expected. Admittedly, I have not tried to re-program this unit, but it works well with my car and Pioneer MVH-X380BT also bought from Crutchfield. The volume up/down, FF, RW, and answer buttons all work very well. However, you need to keep in mind a few things. 1) The screen on the car that used to display the radio station now displays dashes. Also, if you are in the car's menu system and are pushing buttons that control the radio.. the radio with change. So I'm in setting my clock on the car and the radio is changing stations and volume, etc. But I did find a work around...long press. To the unit, a long press is different from a short one, so if you want to control the car's system without affecting the radio, long press. If you want to Just control the radio, put the car's system on radio (not system check, or speedometer options, etc.) and use short press.
Pros: - Very easy to install, instructions were Excellent!! - Ability to program individual buttons (which I have not done) - Worked the first time I programmed it
Cons: - Make sure you have a mini USB cable and update the firmware first!! - Do not expect feedback into your car's display system (although this may be a radio thing)
Worked fine after I overcame an obvious deficiency. Instructions said to connect to the wire on pin 14 of the car's existing wiring harness. After identifying the correct wire I found that there was no corresponding "spare wire" in the adapter harness on pin14. I had to move another wire in the harness to pin 14 to avoid having to cut and strip the wire in the car's existing harness. The manufacturer of the adapter could have simply provided a spare wire on pin 14 of the harness and avoided this extra work
Pros: Works fine once you get it installed
Cons: Installation could have been easier had the mfr. provided a spare wire on pin 14 of the adapter
Love this option!! Easy install. However it did take 4 times to reset and vehicle to find it.
Once installed correctly, works very well. THe instructions were clear except for the connector wasn't clear as to which side the view was from. Took the Crutchfield guy 10 minutes to clarify before we worked it out....and if he was confused I can't be the only guy.
Pros: Ended up with full functionality and thats all I could ask for. Autoprogram worked awesome.
Cons: Instructions were good but not great
Very easy to install, I followed the instructions step by step and it worked at first try with Altima 2003 and radio Kenwood DPX301U. Instructions are clear, simple and easy to fallow.
Pros: Autodetect the car and the radio.
Cons: Instructions are only in english and maybee in spanish (I'am not sure) but not available in french.
Works great! I love being able to control the Pioneer Stereo with this adapter in my 2010 Highlander.
Pros: Almost all the controls work (Volume, Skip, Mode, and Speech buttons work with my iPhone).
Cons: The phone answer and hang up don't work but not that big a deal for me.
I have used Axxess products before and the ASWC-1 worked perfectly
Pros: Works well and ease of installation
Easy install and easy instructions on website...........controls work great on my 08 Silverado
Pros: Easy instructions on website and only a 3 wires to connect cant get easier than that
Cons: none I can think of at this time
After axcessing their website installation was quick and simple. Works as well as the in car radio controls, I highly recommend this product for anyone with a vehicle requiring aftermarket installation accories.
Pros: Works great,
Easy installation, great customer support.
Easy to install!
Pros: Very easy to install. The directions are what made it easy. Love being able to use steering wheel controls with a new head unit!
Really wanted to use my steering wheel controls with new Kenwood, but I could never get this to work. Lots of assist from Crutchfield but no luck. If I really want this to work I will probably go to a professional installer.
Pros: Crutchfield techs tried to help, even contacted Axxess for me.
Cons: Axxess customer support was hit & miss, first tech I spoke to was No Help (sounded like he did not want to be there), second time I called the tech was helpful but his suggestions still did not get the ASWC-1 to work in my car.
This unit installed simply and easily with the separately supplied harness. The Axxess ASWC-1 Controller integrates both the Stereo controls on the left side on the steering wheel and the Bluetooth controls on the right side of the steering wheel on a 2013 Tacoma TRD O/R with Non-JBL Factory Stereo previously installed.
Pros: Seamless Integration for Steering Wheel Controls in today's vehicle with added bells and whistles everywhere except the factory stereos.
Have not even gotten it to work as of yet. I am not a novice at installations or wiring. I Know that I have it connected to the proper wires according to the Axxess site and I soldered the connections. It will not program and has failed every time. I am at a loss as to what to do. It is a total waste of money to me at this point. I even had them send me a new one thinking the first one was defective. Same result. Again, I Know it is connected correctly.
Pros: supposedly programs itself
Cons: can't get it to work at all
Works as intended. Installation easy. My 2006 Tundra steering wheel controls have the same response time as the factory system. A seamless transition.
Pros: Easy Install, good response. Programs itself.
Cons: Once in a while will display a re-connect message, but you push one button and it automatically does.
Love my steering wheel controls and they still work great after the install
Pros: Works exactly
This was included in the purchase of a Jensen VX7020 unit. Instructions (to me) weren't the easiest in the world to understand. Spoke with Crutchfield a few times for help with installing this device. For about a day after installing, it worked fine. I set what each button did on my steering wheel and it just worked. Next day it worked for about 50% of the time. And now it doesn't work at all. I doubt its the device. Probably something I did wrong, and I've also heard that its difficult to get steering wheel controls to work in my car (2013 Subaru STI. I'll probably end up paying to get it installed because I don't feel like messing with it anymore. 3 stars for when it worked as it should, took 2 stars because it doesn't now ):
Will work with 03 silverado pickup truck.
Only four stars, because, while it works and does what it is supposed to, I found the Axxess tech support line to be a bit snarky. Not at all like Crutchfield, who are willing to bend over backwards to help the clients.
Pros: Works right
Cons: tech support
Wasn't sure about using this, but I wanted mt steering audio controls back, hardly any work except soldering the wires that was needed.
Pros: Easy hook up and to easy instructions to follow
Very easy installation and programming. Functions very well! No delay between steering wheel buttons and app radio 4 unit.
Pros: Work well as designed. Vehicle specific installation instructions are available online, so you can review and print them before the unit arrived
Pros: Easy to install. Programs itself.
Be sure to include this if you have steering wheel controls. Easy to install, but the first one I got didn't work. Crutchfield techs checked it over the phone and were very helpful. They sent me a new module, I plugged it in and it worked just fine.
Pros: You really need this. Your steering wheel controls won't work without it.
Cons: best if soldered in, no problem if you know soldering.
Works well like it should.
Unit works good, as expected. Install isn't horrid but it isn't the best. Better instructions would have been nice.
Pros: Small - Fits anywhere Retains Steering wheel controls
Cons: Pain to wire up Even worse to install with other harnesses
.. But then I followed the instructions. The gizmo auto-sensed the car and works perfectly.
Pros: Was easy to install. For my jeep, three wires and 5 minutes.
Cons: Nothing, except written instruction in the package are quite lengthy and intimidating.. and they come in TWO volumes, no less.
Program, Install, and the interface does the rest when interfacing with major stereo manufacturers (JVC, Kenwood, Bose, etc.)
So glad to still be able to use my steering wheel controls!
Pros: Simple to install, and works great!
It was pretty straight forward to install. It works great and would buy it again.
Pros: Easy installation instructions.
Axxess fails to mention that when used on a 2005 Buick LaCrosse that the temp controls on the steering wheel are lost as in they do not control the temp anymore. I wrote to them but that was their reply. The mute button also fails to work. It would be nice if they told people the limitations of their adapter up front before investing the money and time to install it.
Cons: Incomplete disclosure of adapters abilities, poor support from Axxess.
Works good. A little confusing because the wiring harness that is included is also part of the GMOS-04 wiring harness as well. Also, have to read the instructions carefully in order to correctly program for your vehicle. Took me two tries, but worked great after that. Recognized my 2003 Silverado and the steering wheel controls still do pretty much what they did with the factory radio. I was really glad to be able to keep these because they are very convenient.
Pros: works great
Cons: tricky to understand wiring and programming instructions
Does what is says
Pros: works good
Cons: have to update firmware
Easily installed. Working great with aftermarket stereo upgrade.
Directions are very straightforward and customer service/technical team was awesome helping to troubleshoot over the phone!!
easy install and does as advertised
Pros: retains functions, easy install
Pros: Works flawlessly with auto programming to steering wheel for my 07 Tacoma
Cons: Install instructions are a little weak
This steering wheel adapter helped me to regain my radio steering wheel controls after installing a after market radio in my car works great easy programming thks Crutchfield!
Pros: Awesome product
Works as advertised. Instructions Stink. This is especially true when combined with Metra 708114 harness.
Pros: Identifies car and radio like a charm. Works well.
Cons: Instructions stink. Lots of initials and no defining words.
Works exactly as it is supposed to (after a bit of troubleshooting). I installed this in combination with Axxess HDCC-01 Wiring Interface (which has a plug pre-wired that hooks directly into the ASWC-1) and a new head-unit. If you want to keep your factory steering wheel bluetooth buttons, you will have to splice in the wiring harness that comes with the ASWC-1 so that the Grey-Blue wire (which isn't on the pre-wired HDCC-01 plug) can be patched into your vehicle's existing wiring for it's bluetooth module.
Pros: Easy to install, auto-detect worked well (helped greatly in troubleshooting the bluetooth button issues). Works easily with the HDCC-01 wiring harness.
Cons: Read the instructions carefully to maintain functionality of bluetooth calling buttons.
Works great. Very easy to set up.
The adapter never self programmed. The led never lit up and hen connected to the radio would drive the radio volume to the max and wouldn't work. I'll see what happens with a replacement.
Pros: Ease of install with metra harness
Cons: Would not work as advertised.
Pros: quick and easy
Unit worked great. Instructions were not clear to me, so I called the company. Excellent tech support. They walked me through what I needed to know and after that, the installation went perfectly.
Pros: Unit works exactly as advertised.
Cons: Instructions are sketchy.
Plug and play so can't complain at all.
Pros: Auto detect is great.
Great product - easy to install - works great
Pros: Easy to install - auto learn, plug-'n-play - worked first attempt. Never know this was an after-market product.
easy enough to install but difficult to program. I still can't get it to work right with my Kenwood. Still trying, maybe I'll return?
Pros: installation is easy
Cons: Hard to program and get to work!Crutchfield response on August 18, 2015 Whenever you encounter a problem with anything you purchase from Crutchfield, especially a situation like this, please contact our tech support team right away. This module is super easy to setup! It auto-detected my car and stereo perfectly! Even if it wouldn't have, the instructions show exactly how to configure each button. Highly recommend this one over the other options!
Pros: Very straight-forward to install. Just call Crutchfield with any questions! I did, and they cleared up a simple misunderstanding I had in a couple minutes.
I used this to connect my Mazda RX-8 steering controls to a Kenwood headunit. Instructions were a bit difficult to understand. I had to do some searching on the internet for some clarity. There are many wires but it depends on your vehicle as to which wires will be used. But once I figured out the correct wires and what pins had to be connected it worked as advertised. Most people online spliced into the wires behind the factory connector because the Metra adapter used to connect to the factory radio does not include pins for steering controls. So instead I built my own pins and wire and inserted into the adapter plug at the matching locations for the factory controls. No need to splice into factory wires. After hooking it up to the car and the radio, it automatically sensed both the car and the radio and I didn't have to tweak any of the settings. Very happy with how it turned out.
Pros: Senses the car and the radio so you don't have to manually set each control. Very responsive with no lag between button and change on the radio.
Cons: Difficult instructions clearly intended for professional installers. Call Crutchfield if you get stuck.
Plugged it in, followed every step from the installation guide for my specific car. The unit recognized all of my buttons but coukd not see the stereo. Even when i used a different stereo it regustered a pioneer as a kenwood. Even after manually programming the unit, it still wouldnt work properly. So now i dont have steering controls
Pros: Instructions are straight foreward
Cons: Mine doesnt workCrutchfield response on August 11, 2015 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
Item worked great for 1 year. After 1 year it only works half the time
Have your radio turned off when you try to auto-program the unit.
After I connected the wires and powered the system on, this little guy did exactly what the manual said it would. After a few seconds, my steering wheel controls worked with the new radio, and I didn't have to program anything.
The instruction booklet seems to be written by someone without a good command of the English language. Diagrams TOTALLY confusing. Downloaded instructions from Axxess INCOMPLETE.
Pros: are there any?
Cons: Poor diagrams, INCOMPLETE/WRONG instructions. NOT all features work from my steering wheel.. Too many phone calls to Crutchfield.
I bought this months after buying the radio. I realized I wanted my steering wheel controls back. The instructions were so so and I began to worry. A single phone call to Crutchfield and I knew exactly what to do. It works well, all the funtionality is there.
Pros: It wasn't hard to install, it works as advertised.
Cons: Installation instructions are lacking when you don't buy it with the radio, at the same time.
Works well once installed. I found instructions a bit confusing, but Crutchfield Tech help made it work and easy to install.
Once Devin in Tech Support diplomatically advised me to RTFM, I got it properly wired. The controller auto detected my '06 Mazda3 and JVC receiver. All the SW controls - MODE, CH, VOL, and MUTE work as expected. For internet radio, MUTE pauses the stream. It's nice to be able to listen to Pandora and TuneIn via Bluetooth on Android and skip tracks from SWC.
Pros: Dead simple to install.
Cons: You'll have to deal with unused wiring.
This SWC system is great! It is the third brand I have installed and by far the easiest. The self learning feature is great and saves allot of time and effort to get it up and running.
Pros: Very easy to install, the unit did all the programming for me with the learning feature.
Good product works well directions could be a little clearer.
Pros: Works good
Cons: Directions unclear
This adapter was very easy to install. It auto-detected my vehicle on first power-up
Pros: Easy to install
Happy to have this steering wheel controller makes it easy to change music turned up the volume or turn down the volume I have a newer car so didn't want to lose any of my controls the install guys did a great job and I'm happy I purchased it
Pros: Works as it should
There's no real help in the instructions or website but it doesn't really need it. On a 2006 BMW 3 series it just plugs and goes. Make sure to hold down the volume up button after install and it will automatically map the keys. Just works
Very easy to install only needed three wires and the jack plug to get it working in my Honda Odyssey.
Pros: Easy set up.
After hours of surfing this companies website and looking at online vids I still could not get a clear picture of which wires should be routed into the head unit. Not a user friendly product.
Cons:Crutchfield response on July 6, 2015 Whenever you encounter a problem with anything you purchase from Crutchfield, especially a situation like this, please contact our customer service or tech support teams right away. Based on a video I watched from Crutchfield, I thought this unit was going to AutoDetect as soon as I flipped the key. unfortunately it did not. with very vague instructions, I called Crutchfield support and they were great. I had press the reset button and as soon as I did, it programmed itself in less than 15 seconds. Would have been a lot faster if the instructions had more details.
Pros: Auto program and very easy to do with Toyota Adaptor Kit
Cons: Vague instructions.
Bought the Path for my son to drive while in college. Installed a double din with nav to help him get around. Never gave much thought about the steering controls when I installed the deck but since I was on Crutchfield ordering stuff for my other truck anyway, I figured I'd check it out. Found this one and with hundreds of stellar reviews how can I go wrong right? Well, since I'm a caveman I read directions but don't really read directions, you know? Had some wiring issues so I called Crutchfield for some help. Don't have the guys name but I think he was a Crutchfield imposter. I could tell he was tired of listening to dumb questions asked by dumb people like me and that being on the phone was the last thing in the world he wanted to be doing. Anyway, I wasn't calling to make friends, just needed some info which I got so it is what it is. Now I got all the wiring done except the 3.5 plug in. looked in the back of my deck and nothing. checked the instructions (which you have to get online, they aren't in the kit) and of all the brands listed, Jensen is not one (no Audiovox either). Called Crutchfield but I was out of luck, closed for the day. So, having only a few wires not used in the harness I found the 2 that it should be. Took a couple tries but I finally got it wired and synced. BTW, the reset button is the other little hole next to the LED. You need to shove a pin in there to get to it. There's nowhere in the kit or instructions that tell you where it is.
Pros: Crutchfield fast free shipping.
Cons: Only volume and channel change work, other buttons did not sync. I guess that's as good as it's going to get but it's the 2 you really need. To the tech support guy, this is what you may do everyday but for the rest of us it's not. Don't group us all in the same gene pool. We're not the same person calling you over and over again. I hope you're having a better day today:)
Hooked this up to my Honda CR-V 2005 along with my Pioneer AVH-X4600BT. Works like a charm, no delay and auto detect setup took less than 10 seconds.
Pros: Auto setup, easy setup
Worked very well. Was a no hassle install, auto-programmed exactly as the instructions indicated, and has functioned in my car since I installed it.
