Add a 12-volt power source

If you need power for a low-current accessory or an amplifier's remote turn-on, this Dual Add A Fuse adapter from InstallBay will provide a convenient and safe alternative to running a new wire all the way to your vehicle's battery. You simply pull out a fuse from your vehicle's fuse box, then plug the Add A Fuse's blades into its position in the box.

The Add A Fuse has two fuse holder slots: one for the original circuit fuse, and another for a new fuse for the new circuit. The original fuse will still protect its circuit while the new fuse protects the positive voltage provided to your accessory via the red wire. (You'll provide the accessory's ground connection to your vehicle's chassis.) The ATC Dual Add A Fuse fits into an ATC/ATO slot in your fuse box. Warranty: 60 days.

Installation note: The new fuse and accessory should have a current rating well below the original fuse, otherwise the current draw could overwhelm the original circuit and blow its fuse.

Q
Will this work on 1992 Merc Cougar fuse box?

We don't test them to check to see which style fuses are in the panels. If you are not sure, you might check with a car parts place like Advance Auto parts to see what they are recommending as replacement fuses. If they are offering ATC style fuses, then this should work! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
Trying to see if this add a fuse is my answer. Trying to run the remote wire for the amp.. The only fuse I'm finding to use is for the day time running lights. If I use that one then I can't sit in the car and listen to music. If lights are on it works fine but with them off the amp goes off. So does this add a fuse need to replace a fuse that only turns on with the engine on or will it make one that always has power into one that turns on with the engine?

A
As far as I'm aware: The "add a fuse" replaces an existing fuse and turns it into a 2 slot fuse location. The existing fuse will plug back into the "add a fuse" and then you will plug in the fuse for the amp. Therefore, as long as you pick a fuse slot that powers when the car is turned on (e.g. radio, windows, lights) it won't drain your battery unless the key is in the ignition or the car is on. If you plug into a fuse location that is always powered (e.g. interior lights, power locks, power seats, security system) then the amp will always have power but will drain the battery when not being used. It will not make a fuse that always has power turn on/off with the engine, its not a switch, merely a splitter.
