Add a 12-volt power source

If you need power for a low-current accessory or an amplifier's remote turn-on, this Dual Add A Fuse adapter from InstallBay will provide a convenient and safe alternative to running a new wire all the way to your vehicle's battery. You simply pull out a fuse from your vehicle's fuse box, then plug the Add A Fuse's blades into its position in the box.

The Add A Fuse has two fuse holder slots: one for the original circuit fuse, and another for a new fuse for the new circuit. The original fuse will still protect its circuit while the new fuse protects the positive voltage provided to your accessory via the red wire. (You'll provide the accessory's ground connection to your vehicle's chassis.) The ATM Dual Add A Fuse fits into an ATM slot in your fuse box. Warranty: 60 days.

Installation note: The new fuse and accessory should have a current rating well below the original fuse, otherwise the current draw could overwhelm the original circuit and blow its fuse.

The gauge of this wire has not been published by the manufacturer. If you would like to obtain that information, you may reach out to Metra at 800-221-0932.

Q
can this fuse tap handle 15 amp load?

A
Hi Andreas, I don't recommend the possibility of a 15A load with this add-a-circuit / tap. The tap is something like an 18 gauge wire; safe up to about 10A from my investigations. Good luck!

I was unable to use this particular fuse tap. The KIA Sorento I was installing the dash cam used a new configuration where the prongs that plug into the fuse box are spaced closer together. I called the Crutchfield tech rep and he was very helpful and walked me through a work around.
