Crutchfield has the best tech support over anyone though. I had to call Metra to get a little support because the steering wheel control did work at first but then stopped working. They gave me several suggestions to try which none worked. Each time, I had to call back and wait. The last tech support person belittled me. He told me this was way beyond my skill level. He doesn't know me but when he tried to explain what he wanted me to try, he explained as if I was a professional installer. He finally hung up on me even though I was being polite with him. He just got frustrated with me. I finally figured out the problem on my own, no help from Metra tech support. If you have a problem with this product, don't call Metra, call Crutchfield. Crutchfield has never let me down.
Pros: Works great on my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. I can control my new aftermarket stereo with the steering wheel controls.
Cons: Don't call Metra/Axxess tech support!
Easy to install and does what it's supposed to do
Product was exactly as ordered and works perfectly. I would order from them again!
The unit was installed in a 2004 Ram 2500 with the Infinity sound system. It would not supply power to the radio. Crutchfield sent a replacement unit with the same results. Strange since other reviews said it was plug and play. There was power to the unit but not out to the radio. After talking to the service tech I ran a jumper 12v wire around the unit to the JVC head unit and everything worked fine.
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Did not work as advertised
Harness is of great quality, just wish it had fit.
Pros: Nice Quality
Cons: Didn't Fit
Easy to install and set up. Works great
the sound quality is terrific after the install, and the install was was very easy. color coded wires matched up perfectly with my dodge ram. Crutchfield and their products are top notch!
Pros: easy easy easyy
Cons: not the best instructions but thats why you have the amazing people at CF to help us out
Harness came in as promised. I had a couple of questions that customer service answered and made sure I understood. Harness works great.
Pros: Ease of installation
This fit perfectly into my car and it worked great. The directions where a little bit lacking. They tell you what each color is, but you are on your own figuring out what to plug in where. It is pretty simple though. I had the little harness plug left over. Don't see anything that it will plug into to. The most important part is the Radio is working great.
Installed the CHTO-02 to interface my new head unit a Pioneer DEH-X6700BT with my Infinity 7 speaker system. Everything matched up perfectly. Instructions easy to follow. All functions work perfectly and the sound is excellent. I also added the ASWC-1 at the same time to retain my steering wheel controls. A little extra work, but well worth it. I am very pleased with the whole package. I took the time to solder and shrink wrap my connections. It would be nice if they included an inline fuse.
Pros: Easy to follow instructions.
Cons: None other than I believe they should include an inline fuse for the power in, which I installed just as an insurance policy.
The wiring harness was very easy to install and the instructions are very clear and easy to understand. Everything on my install was color coded and match up, but always read the instructions first.
Pros: Easy to install Matched color coded for my install (yours may be different) Very clear instructions
Cons: I found none
So easy to use. Install was flawless paired with the steering wheel controls. Great product
Pros: Easy to install Tidy wiring
Cons: Poor instructions
Instruction are a bit confusing
I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but wiring and electrical hookups are definitely not my forte. This harness kit made it super easy. I had a bit of momentary confusion until I realized I didn't need some of the other harnesses supplied with the other pieces I bought because of the pre-wired one. After that, it was a piece of cake.
Easy install, works great
Pros: Easy install, works great
Took some time to connect all of the wires but directions were good and works perfect.
Pros: Clean and easy installation.
I have a Ram 1500 with a stock Infinity speaker and amp setup. After I installed this with my new head unit, the sound quality improved dramatically. I don't think my stock stereo was even using the subs. If it says you need it, get it, you won't be disappointed.
Pros: Easy to use.
A few extra wires. but after a phone call to tech support I cut them off & install was a breeze. Best buy tried to tell me I would lose factory amp & front speakers if they installed, plus pay them 105$ for it. Do it yourself & get better results with Crutchfield,
the product worked great
They say it's needed. Can't say different. Pretty poor instructions for an interface that still requires wire splicing.
Pros: Truck still starts and runs while radio plays?
Cons: Poor instructions. Lots of loose wires with nowhere to go.
I purchased the product for a 2004 Dodge RAM 1500 for the convenience of not having to rewire the speakers. The device was packaged well and the instruction were adequate, at best. However, I also ordered the Axxess device to keep the stearing wheel controls, but the lack of clear instructions to integrate the two Axxess components provided me a problem. If it wasn't for the great and patient support of the Crutchfield team, I'd still be scratching my head. End result is the product does what's advertised, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired.
Pros: Works as advertised.
Cons: The device feels a little flimsy and I noticed a slight clicking sound as through the board was loose inside the plastic housing. I really couldn't tell what was making the noise, but after a month in operation no problems have been detected.
1st time installer here, easy to install and the tech help was great too. No long waits on the phone either!!!
Pros: Keeps my factory amp running and really quick install
Cons: A bit high on the cost but if you have a car like mine you gotta have it
A wonderful product. easily installed and kept my controls fully functioning after the radio was upgraded to have more modern features.
Pros: easily installed and fully functional.
Cons: you need clearance for the module in the area around the radio wiring.
very simple to install works great
Pros: instructions were easy
Not doing the job properly, Bought bypass harness and sound is better now!
Cons: Installed properly and my dashboard BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS blink on suddendly! Rechecked install, problem continued! Uninstalled problem solved!
worked absolutely perfectly as described. directions were simple and explained.
Pros: worked flawlessly
Cons: would be cool if they added a line for steering wheel controls
I read the reviews on the Access CHTO-02 and was kind of scared of the actual operation and quality of this adapter. Discussed this with Andy (advisor) online and he said they had sold thousands of these and people only make an effort to review if they have issues, self induced. Makes sense to me. I purchased this adapter, followed the instructions exactly without rushing the wiring and it works beautifully. Note, that the instructions stated that if you have a high voltage output of your receiver, that you need to turn the gain down. I did that before startup and it is excellent. Instructions cover alot of wiring connections and just take one at a time and make sure you are working with the correct wires and all will be good.
Pros: Works perfect with my Dodge Ram with Infinity 7 speaker system.
Cons: Lots of connections and make sure you have the correct wires. Do not rush at this hookup.
The interface was really easy to wire up and install, I really like the per wired plug for the steering wheel interface, just plug it in and go.
Pros: Steering wheel controls pre-wired Easy install
Cons: The control box and wiring is a little large and tough to tuck behind the stereo in a Dodge ram
This is a great product. Its easy to install in no time at all.
Pros: Easy to read instructions
Cons: Looks complacated but just follow instructions
In case anybody is looking, like I was, to purchase and install one of these. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with 7 speaker Infinity system with navigation and recently purchased the CHTO-02. I was skeptical after reading some of these reviews. I only used the ACC (red), constant power (yellow), ground (black), turn on (blue/white), and RCA inputs and it sounds way better than the stock deck did and no problems. Volume goes way louder, also. My Pioneer DEH-P780MP goes to 63, I think, on the volume and I've only made it up to about 55 and it was extremely loud and still no distortion. It is as loud as the factory deck at about 40-45 and this is with the 16 band EQ flat. Always had treble all of the way up on factory deck to try to get as much out of it as possible. Much better, fuller, and louder all the way around. I set the input adjustment all of the way up, as recommended by a review that I read somewhere. The date of manufacture on the unit that I purchased was 3/08 and it did have the RCA inputs.
Pros: Works great and sounds even better.
Cons: Expensive, but you have to have it to retain factory amp. With the way that it sounds, it was worth it.
2005 Dodge Ram 1500 BigHorn w/o uConnect - Gave my son a new Kenwood stereo w/ bluetooth and aux before realizing the need for a non-standard harness due to Infinity sound. Instructions were poor... lists RCA jacks for the speaker connections (they're dual wires, not RCA's) and the instructions have the 14 and 16 pin connectors reversed. Also, there are 3 additional wires on the 16-pin that are not even addressed. That being said, we connected the 8 speaker output wires and all others identified in the diagram, capped the three "bonus" wires and plugged it in - worked like a champ! We followed another reviewer's advice and found the best sound quality was obtained by turning the potentiometer to nearly the top end of it's amplification and keeping the head unit output low.
Pros: Quick to install once you figure get past the poor instructions.
Cons: Poor instructions, and it costs more than the stereo! However, the only other choices were bypass the Infinity amp (whether adding a new amp or not, you'd probably have to replace at least the 3 dash-mounted speakers) or just stick with the factory stereo. Son is happy now... bluetoothing his iTunes without a hitch.
This was needed with my 2005 Ram 2500 to continue use with the factory amp (Infinity Audio System). The instructions that came with it were flat wrong and did not take into account a recent change to the harness. The on-line version from the manufacturer's site is also wrong. The Crutchfield tech assist was superb in talking me through the new process, however after installation neither fade nor left/right balance was operative.
Cons: Poor documentation
Didi not work and had to return it.
works as describes, no problems, easy to install
The unit is easy to install, but in my case it supplied constant power to the head unit regardless of ignition switch position. Additionally, once it was installed in my 05 Dodge Ram 2500 with Infinity system and no uconnect, many of my truck's accessories remained powered up even with the key out of the ignition - windshield wipers, door chimes, dome lights. I called Crutchfield and they walked me through a couple of troubleshooting steps that didn't work so they sent me a new one. The new one had the exact same issues. Ultimately, I returned both and subsequently bought a Metra factory amplifier bypass harness from another retailer (Crutchfield doesn't carry it for some unknown reason). Plugged that new unit in today and now everything works great. Of course, I also had to buy new speakers because the stock speakers are 2 ohm and therefore not compatible with my HU.
Pros: Allows you to keep the stock speakers and amplifier. Easy to install.
Cons: Causes other problems, most particularly leaving the power to the HU and other accesories turned on even after the key is out of the ignition. Seems like a major risk of running the truck's battery down.
Works as planned, but did have to call the techs to help me with one or two items. You don't have much choice at this point.
I bought this item because Crutchfield said I need it. Being that they do this a lot more than I do I got it. Followed instructions exactly. Hooked it to the stereo and got constant power and no sound. This is a very expensive piece to not work. I called crutchfield and trouble shooter for about 45 min. with no results. Seems factory amp was not working. Crutchfield is sending a new unit. So I have to wait another two days before I can try reinstall. Might jump rating up if new piece works. 2004 Dodge ram 1500 quad cab with infinity 7 speaker system no uconnect.
Pros: None yet
Cons: Expensive feels cheap And did not work
Excellent instructions easy to install
didnt need it, even that costumer service said I need it, dont know if was the radio I bought, so make sure to check ur sistem!!!
BEWARE, THERE ARE TWO VERSIONS OF THIS INTERFACE. THE FIRST ONE I RECIEVED IS NOT WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO. IT WAS A BLACK BOX W/THE SAME WIRING YOU SEE IN THE PIC. THE FIRST INTERFACE (NOT PICTURED) GAVE MY HEAD UNIT CONSTANT POWER AND DOOR CHIME WITH NO SOUND. AFTER CONSULTING WITH CRUTCHFIELD (AWSOME SERVICE) THEY SENT ME A NEW INTERFACE OVERNIGHT. THE SECOND INTERFACE I RECIEVED IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU SEE PICTURED. I NOW HAVE NO CONSTANT POWER, NO CONSTANT DOOR CHIME, EUREKA EVEN SOUND. THIS WAS A VERY SIMPLE INSTALL, WITH CRITCHFIELD ASSISTANCE YOU SHOULD HAVE NO ISSUES. MY KENWOOD KVT 514 DOES NOT SOUND AS CLEAN AS THE FACTORY UNIT DID WITH THE FACTORY INFINITY AMP, IT'S DECENT.
One installation note said that on '05 RAM there would be no fader. I have fader. From all my searches all over the net prior to buying, I think that this may be true if U-connect is installed. But I am not sure. In any case, I do not have U-connect, and I have fader.
It was a perfect installation.
One note... There's a pot to adjust the input so as not to overload the Infinity amp. On initial plug in, I was getting a lot of distortion. I turned the pot down, and it sounded bad all the way down.
Hmmmm.... turns out I had the head unit's volume jacked all the way up.
So, start with the head unit's volume down, and the Metra's pot all the way up. Then adjust the pot from there.
Lots of room behind the Pioneer 7000, so fit and install was easy.
15 minutes from dash off to radio up and running.
It performs most of the functions the old factory unit does, but there's no fade control now, and the balance was backwards. I had to cut a wire to preserve proper function of warning chimes, and for some reason the new head unit had constant power instead of accessory power. I had to run an accessory lead to the head unit, bypassing its harness completely. The case wasn't held together well, either.
That said, once the bugs were worked out, it provides a relatively easy way to install a new head unit using RCA outputs. It beats trying to root out the factory amp, splice speaker wires, etc. and is a better unit than the GM interface I have also used. It is quite expensive, though, so you better have a head unit you REALLY want to use!
Overview: The CHTO-02 interface is designed to allow you to replace the OEM radio with an aftermarket unit and retain the use of the OEM amplified audio system in select 2004-2008 Chrysler/Dodge vehicles that feature a factory amplifier. The CHTO-02 also keeps the Retained Accessory Power convenience features if the vehicle is so equipped. In addition to these features, the CHTO-02 has the required outputs (Mute, Parking Brake, VSS and Reverse) for the installation of an aftermarket navigation radio.
Compatibility: The CHTO-02 is compatible with the following Chrysler/Dodge vehicles equipped with a factory installed Infinity, Boston Acoustic or Kicker amplifier.
Retained Accessory Power: If your vehicle has the Retained Accessory Power (R.A.P.) function, which supplies power to the radio after the ignition is turned off, until one of the front doors is opened, this function is retained by the CHTO-02 harness.
OEM Steering Wheel Control Compatible (optional): The CHTO-02 features a right-angle 3.5mm connector that lets you keep your Chrysler/Dodge vehicle's OEM steering wheel controls via the optional Axxess Steering Wheel Control Interface (120ASWC1, sold separately). The Chrysler/Dodge vehicle must have factory steering wheel controls to retain access to the factory customization menu, once the factory radio is replaced with an aftermarket head unit.
