About the Metra GMRC-04 Wiring Interface

Zak Billmeier
Problem: Installing an aftermarket receiver in some 2000-up General Motors vehicles means losing audible safety warnings.

Problem: Installing an aftermarket receiver in some 2000-up General Motors vehicles means losing audible safety warnings.

Solution: Metra's GMRC-04 GM data bus interface lets you replace the factory receiver in these vehicles while keeping the door chime and audible safety warnings. Hook the GMRC-04 to your aftermarket radio, mount the module, and plug it into the existing factory plug. Get the great sound you want, and keep all important safety features intact.

Also, once you turn off the ignition in these GM vehicles, the radio continues to play until you open the door. This interface maintains that function with your new aftermarket radio. This interface is compatible with select 2000-up GM vehicles. If you haven't done so already, please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if this item is compatible with your vehicle. Warranty: 1 year.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The AXXESS GMRC-04 lets you replace the factory radio in select 2000-2005 GM vehicles. The AXXESS GMRC-04 is designed to be used in non-amplified 2000-2005 GM vehicles without Onstar that have the "Dock-n-Lock" style harness (the radio harness that stays mounted in the dash when the radio is removed). The GMRC-04 retains the warning chimes that will normally be lost when the GM factory radio is removed through the use of an on-board speaker. It will also provide a 12-volt switch accessory wire for proper radio operation

Note: The radio itself is held in by two spring loaded clips, one on each side.

Vehicle Compatibility: The AXXESS GMRC-04 is compatible with the following 2000-2005 GM vehicles (without Onstar), that use the "Dock-n-Lock style harness".

  • 2000-2005 Buick Lesabre
  • 2001-2003 Oldsmobile Aurora
  • 2000-2005 Pontiac Bonneville
Note: The GMRC-04 can be used in the vehicles listed above that come with a factory amplifier; however the factory amplifier must by bypassed. If the vehicle has Onstar, that feature will not work.

Retained Accessory Power (R.A.P.): The ignition power source of most GM vehicles keeps the radio on until one of the doors is opened. This feature is called the R.A.P. (retained accessory power). The GMRC-04 is designed to retain this feature.

Q
It appears my wiring harness is wired incorrectly. Looks like the pins were inserted with the plastic connector upside down. Pin A1 ended up as B16 I think. Is this a common manufacturing problem?

A
The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
