About the Tsunami HCAP-40

Buck Pomerantz
If your headlights dim every time your subs deliver a big bass hit, you could use a Tsunami power capacitor to stabilize the power between your amps and your car's electrical system. Tsunami makes high-power, competition-level capacitors that store up power, then deliver it to your amps when they need it most, during moments of peak demand. Your amps will maintain maximum performance even under extreme conditions.

Tsumani's HCAP-40 40-farad capacitor is suitable for systems totalling up to 20,000 watts RMS. This hybrid capacitor uses the latest battery technology to store more energy per cubic inch than a standard cap, and this reserve power gets delivered instantly to your amps whenever they need it. An LCD readout shows how much voltage is pumping through your system, while the amp-style chassis makes this cap look right at home with almost any amplifier setup.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The overall response of your car audio system will be enhanced with the use of capacitors due to their ability to store a large amount of current and discharge it quickly to supplement your amplifier's power supply during high current demand (bass note). The Tsunami digital hybrid capacitor is a logical addition to your system due to the fact that automotive batteries aren't designed to deliver the current to satisfy the requirements of high powered audio components. It can also filter AC voltage induced in the system by the amplifier's power supply which could cause objectionable noise.

Note: One Farad of capacitance is recommended for each 500 watts of amplifier power, but you can never have too much capacitance for any system.

Digital Hybrid Capacitor: The Tsunami HCAP-40 is a 40 Farad high-performance digital hybrid capacitor with digital volt and amp meters. It provides two 1/0 or 4-gauge inputs and six 1/0 or 4-gauge outputs for installing a multi-amplifier system (up to three amps), totaling up to 20,000 watts RMS.

Styled Casing: The Tsunami HCAP-40 digital hybrid capacitor features an extruded aluminum case with chrome plastic accents. It also features a hinged cover to hide the capacitor's terminal connections.

Digital Volt and Amp Meters: The Tsunami HCAP-40 features a blue digital LCD volt and amp meter. Hi/Lo voltage is indicated by flashing red LED's.

Note: The Tsunami HCAP-40 has an operating working voltage of 20-volts (24-volt surge).

High-Current Terminal Blocks: The Tsunami digital hybrid capacitor features 1/0-gauge nickel-plated high-current terminal blocks with 4-gauge reducers. The HCAP-40 features one positive input, one negative input, 3 positive outputs, and 3 negative outputs.

Customer Q&A

Q
Do i need to charge this specific capacitor? And do i connect the amps directly to this capacitor and just hook up the capacitor like an ordinary amp?

Hello Nick, I hope I am able to answer your questions. I had my Tsunami HCAP-40 installed by a professional. But by looking at the way it is hooked up in my car all 3 of my amps are connected directly to the Tsunami HCAP-40. And the Tsunami HCAP-40 is then connected directly to the car battery. I asked my installer if there was anything that I needed to do to charge the Tsunami HCAP-40 and he said I didn't need to worry about it. As far as I can tell the Tsunami HCAP-40 charges itself once the car is turned on. I hope this information helps you. When I took the Tsunami HCAP-40 out of its box it did not have any instructions to go along with it. However, it does work I have had it in my car for 11 months and no matter how hard the bass kicks the lights on my car do not dim.

yes you need to charge the capacitor before using it with the supplied resistor. yes you hook up your other amps to the capacitor. it basically takes the place of a power distribution block. as for hooking up the capacitor it self, run a fairly heavy gauge wire from you vehicles battery, with an in line fuse of course, to the capacitor, then a ground wire.

Yes the cap needs to be charged first. The amps go directly to the cap and then cap goes to the batt.

Thank you. So i can install my capacitor like i would an amp and then just run the positive and negative cable straight to the capacitor from the other amps, correct?

It's charge from manufacture and I used mine for distribution block for power. I ran 1gauge into it and ran amps off the HCAP-40
