About the Axxess GMOS-LAN-03 Wiring Interface

Ken Nail
The Axxess GMOS-LAN-03 wiring interface lets you replace the factory radio in select OnStar-equipped 2006-12 GM vehicles using the existing wiring and connectors. Even if you don't subscribe to OnStar, you'll need this interface to connect an aftermarket stereo.

Connect the GMOS-LAN-03 to your aftermarket radio, mount the module, and plug it into the existing factory plug. Get the great sound you want, and keep all of the important safety features intact.

You can adjust volume settings for OnStar as well as the safety chimes. In addition, this interface lets your new receiver work with any existing factory amplifiers. This interface gives you convenient plug-in connections for the Axxess steering wheel control adapter (not included) that works with most aftermarket stereos – that means less wiring work for you. This interface even includes a relay that enables you to keep the audible "click" for your vehicle's turn signal.

The Axxess GMOS-LAN-03 is compatible with select 2006-and up General Motors vehicles. If you haven't done so already, please enter your vehicle information or call a Sales Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if this item is compatible with your vehicle. Warranty: 1 year.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The GMOS-LAN-03 Interface is designed to retain the ONSTAR emergency services function and retain the warning chimes that are normally lost when the factory radio is removed and replaced by an aftermarket head unit. It also provides a 12-volt accessory output for proper aftermarket head unit operation and supports your vehicle's factory R.A.P. (Retained Accessory Power). In addition, the GMOS-LAN-03 also provides a Mute, Parking Brake, VSS or Speed Sense, and a Reverse Output to make installation of an aftermarket navigational head unit simpler and less time consuming. The GMOS-LAN-03 supports the Axxess Steering Wheel Control Interface (sold separately).

Compatibility: The GMOS-LAN-03 is compatible with the following Chevrolet, Pontiac and Saturn vehicles.

Make Model Year
Chevy Cobalt 2007-2010
HHR 2006-2010
Malibu 2008-up
Pontiac G5 2007-2008
G6 2009
Solstice 2006-2009
Saturn Aura 2006-2009
Sky 2006-2009

Note: Not compatible with factory amplified sound systems. Please consult the Crutchfield Car Selector for your vehicle's compatibility.

Connections: The GMOS-LAN-03 consists of a single interface with a 16-pin connector on one of the module and and 18-pin connector on the other end; plus includes two harnesses. One harness includes a 16-pin plug that plugs into the 16-pin connection on the interface (beside potentionmeter) and its bare lead wires are hardwired into your new radio's harness. The other harness also includes a 18-pin plug that plugs into the other 18-pin connection of the interface and includes bare wires that hardwire into your new aftermarket radio's harness and GM factory plugs that plug into the factory side plugs behind the radio.

Chime Volume Adjustment: The GMOS-LAN-03 interface features potentiometer located on the 10 pin harness of the module, to adjust the chime volume of your vehicle. Rotate clockwise to make the chime louder and counterclockwise to make the chime softer.

Navigation Compatible: The GMOS-LAN-03 also provides Mute, Parking Brake, VSS or Speed Sense, and a Reverse Output to make installing an aftermarket Navigation radio simpler and less time consuming.

Retained Accessory Power (R.A.P.): The ignition power source of most GM vehicles keeps the radio on until one of the doors is opened. This feature is called the R.A.P. (retained accessory power). The GMOS-LAN-03 is designed to retain this feature.

OEM Steering Wheel Control Compatible (optional): The GMOS-LAN-03 features a right-angle 3.5mm connector that lets you keep your vehicle's OEM steering wheel controls via the optional Axxess Steering Wheel Control Interface (120ASWC1, sold separately).

Note: Your vehicle must have factory steering wheel controls to retain access to the factory customization menu, once the factory radio is replaced with an aftermarket head unit.

Optional RSE Retention Harness: The Metra GMRSAV (120GMRSAV, sold separately) is an RSE retention harness designed to retain the rear seat entertainment system in these select GM vehicles. The GMRSAV provides an audio/video input to the factory overhead video screen from your new aftermarket radio, and provides the audio/video output from the rear seat control panel to the aftermarket head unit.

Q
I am having a problem finding a data interface that retains the OnStar chimes and dask information for a 2008 Chevy HHR. I don't have steering wheel controls. Can you please tell me which?

A
If you have the Pioneer premium audio package originally Bill, you can use the Axxess GMOS-LAN-04 wiring interface in the first link below to keep Onstar features. If you do not have the Pioneer premium audio package you will use the Axxess GMOS-LAN-03 in the second link below. Neither harness lists any info display retention, sadly. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120OSLAN04/Axxess-GMOS-LAN-04-Wiring-Interface.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120OSLAN03/Axxess-GMOS-LAN-03-Wiring-Interface.html

Q
Is this part mandatory for the radio itself to work? Or is it only necessary to regain the chimes?

A
It is mandatory for the radio itself to work their is no other adapter that will work with this radio besides those
garrett  Jul 21, 2014
A
It is not necessary for the radio to work. However if you do not use it you will loose some factory features like door chimes, turn signal on too long warning, and other audio warnings. I guess these systems are all integrated.
clement k  Jul 19, 2014
A
Just to regain the chime. In my car it only restored the seatbelt safety noise and other warning noises. I have no blinker noise.
terry m  Jul 19, 2014

The place that installed it for me said it's only necessary for the chimes and onstar.
clifton  Jul 19, 2014
