I was a little concerned with the limited documentation but it worked great.
Wiring harness is plug and play but poor wiring instructions. Even Crutchfield's tech help guys were unclear how the two red wires are wired.
Pros: Plug and play wiring harness.
Cons: Poor wiring diagram.Crutchfield response on September 8, 2015 Our Tech Support team reached out to help clarify the wiring instructions. We'll either help him get the receiver working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.
Trouble with the first unit, Crutchfield immediately shipped out a replacement
The amplifier interface and communication electronics were literally plug and play. Sound in the C5 is more robust and clarity is 2X the improvement over the factory radio.
Pros: Easy to use. Plug and play. Sounds great.
Cons: Hard to fit in tight places but two fingers with two hands and cable ties gets you through.
Definitely worth the money. Works as advertised. No real explanation as to the recommended process for dialing in the sound at each speaker. Takes a bit of effort to dial in the sound for best full range performance.
Cons: The instructions included are poor at best. very minimal information.
So far this product is working like it should, it is good that I do not have to replace the front speakers on my Corvette.
Pros: It is a money saver.
Cons: Instructions are very minimal.
Pros: Simple plug and play to retain the use of the factory Bose set-up
Installed this in a 1999 Corvette along with a JVC KD-310BT stereo system. This wiring interface does the job and works like it says. Just remember for the initial startup, turn on 30 seconds, than turn off for the system to sync up. If you want to retain your bose speakers, this is the way to go! Highly recommend!!
I was a little intimidated when I first looked at this part. I thought that I might have taken on more than I should have done. The directions said connect blach to ground, red to this and yellow to that. No need to worry. Just connect the color coded wire to the same color coded wire. Plug in the jacks to where they fit and you have done it.
Pros: Easy to install.
Cons: Had 3 wires that I couldn't figure out after connecting all those that marched other from the car receiver. I thought they might be for steering wheel controls. I capped them off and all was good. Should not have had to guess at this.
Do not attempt to install your radio WITHOUT THIS ADAPTER!! It will save you time and effort ! LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!! THANKS to Crutchfield for the great service! !!
Awesome! Works perfectly in my 2003 Z06
Pros: Easy to install, easy to adjust
2000 Corvette.. Easy to install, works perfect as designed.
Pros: Easy to use.
Easy to wire and install, works perfect. A well known Stereo install company told me that I would have to remove my Bose speakers since the built in amps would not be compatible with my new stereo. They were wrong, this adapter does it easily.
Pros: Easy install, saved me a lot of money not having to change speakers.
Cons: Can't think of any.
this product was and is helpful.
Pros: I like the ease of install and the fact that I could retain my factory Bose speakers
Cons: The only thing that I don't like about this product is the lag in initial startup.
One of the great advantages of doing business with Crutchfield as that they have done all the research for you. If you are planning on installing a new head unit into a factory system, there may be additional accessories that you will need to make everything work together. That is exactly the case with this product. For my new Kenwood to function correctly with my factory Bose system, this Axxess XSVI-2004 Adapter is required. It couldn't have been easier to install, and works perfectly.
Pros: Comes with everything you need to have your new stereo work with the factory amp(s) and speakers.
Made the install a snap works great. The only product that I know of that allows you to install an aftermarket stereo without rewiring the rest of the system. Kudos for making an adapter that works!!
Pros: Makes for an easy install that works.
Cons: Could use a little more information with kit.
Very easy installation on My 2003 C5 convertible. Just follow the instructions. I soldered wire connections to insure connectability. I think that those that have issues use a crimp connection. I don't trust the crimp method. Works great with my new Alpine and the factory Bose system. I have very sensitive hearing and no adjustments were necessary.THANKS Crutchfield!
Pros: Simple wire connections. Plenty of wire length for easy accessibilty.
This harness made the instal a cinch. Just connect color to color and plug it in. The Bose system never sounded so good.
Pros: greatly simplifies the instal. Crutchfield's tech support was great.
Cons: little info with product. I had to call tech support to find out I just need to connect color to like color and plug it in.
Works great I only wish there would have been a little more information on the hook - up available.
Pros: Works fine
Cons: More installation info.
The unit is very well made. After wiring the unit allow it the 30 seconds for the unit to integrate and it works great.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: a little bulky
After doing some research on methods to upgrade the Bose system my 99 vette the AXXESS products seem to fill the bill . The unit is very well engineered and I like the fact the the wires are pre-stripped. I always solder any wire splices rather than use the crimp connectors as time is not an issue for me. After wiring the unit in I allowed the 30 seconds for the unit to integrate and it works flawlessly. I used it to facilitate the install of a Kenwood XS-597 head unit and Infinity speakers. Sounds most excellent! Will recommend Axxess products to anyone
Pros: Easy to wire in-well engineered-value (I got it 50% off).
The best easiest way to really make your bose system in these gm vehicles work as designed!
Pros: makes the bose system work as it should!
Cons: not completely plug and play
This solved a problem for my C5 I didn't know could be dealt with. The reason the instructions are so simple is because words would be wasted. If one works slow and follows the instructions this item fires up out of the box. There is plenty of room in a C5 to put the boxes in the dash. I really couldn't see how one could install this incorrectly.
Pros: Ease of installation, period....
Cons: Couldn't find any.
Was a little apprehensive replacing the factory radio that was connected to a Bose system in my 2000 Corvette; however, the installation was literally "color to color" connecting the new radio wiring to the adapter, and then plugging the rest together. I followed the directions exactly, including the "30 second initialize", and happy to say the adapter works 100% with all the Corvette functions (turn radio off when ignition off and door opened) as well as retained the factory Bose speaker system.
Pros: Ease of installation and retains all factory features
Cons: Would have to take console apart if I needed t adjust the adapter settings
Pros: Great fit
Purely plug and play.. I hooked it up according to the instructions. Powered it up and had sounds. Sounded real good as shipped with minor adjustments..
Pros: Worked as described.
Cons: Finding space to put it in a Corvette dash.
Makes replacing factory C5 Bose head unit possible. Intructions are inadequate, but wiring is color coded & everything pretty simple to plug & play. Works great !
Pros: It works.
Cons: Poor instructions.
This is a rather bulky set of items to try to find room for, not have rattle AND be able to make adjustments to. I assumed that I would not have to make any adjustments so velcro'd all that I could to the top of my receiver and installed it. The sound is great. What this unit is actually doing or supposed to be doing is pretty remarkable, but either it or the cars own computers do not always allow it to do what it is supposed to do. One of the features is that it retains the ability for you to shut off the ignition, remove the key and continue to listen to the receiver for up to 15 minutes or until a door is opened. To do that, it is obviously interacting with various systems. Some of those systems have been affected on occasion in ways that have never occurred before (in 9 years of driving this car). Very weird things that make you wonder whether you are losing it. One day, I got in and started to drive and the interior light (passenger side) was on and stayed on. The exterior lights have not flashed as they should upon arming the alarm. The receiver has not turned on a few times, under circumstances where it normally would (i.e., turn car off with it still on, get back in car and start it, the receiver will be on - most times, but sometimes won't, as if there is a delay introduced). There have been a few other things, some of which have only happened once.
Pros: Makes the receiver work well with existing speakers and retains some features of old system.
Cons: No automatic adjustment of volume level for different speeds. Quirky behavior (which might not be the fault of the system as much as it is the car not wanting the system to insert itself into its circuitry). The instructions were lacking. Online, I found a more up to date set that provided more detail
Apparently the older versions of this unit were problematic to install while the latest versions are not. I installed a new head unit in my 1999 C5 and I had no difficulty with the installation using this unit. The device plugged right in to the stock wire harness and the loose wires were easy to match and connect to the head unit wires. The Bose speakers work perfectly. No problems at all.
Done waste time and money like I did on the other bose interface products, This is plug and play and works great with my aftermarket headunit. The factory bose speakers sound great..
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: none so far.
Very simple and foolproof installation! I saw mixed reviews before i got this but I had absolutely NO issues with the installation. I also read complaints regarding instruction quality, but yet found absolutely no issue with those either. Anyone that has ever installed a stereo before understood the wiring colors and where they went without failure. I guess the only thing to be done would be to write the directions in Charlie Brown and Snoopy English to help those that didn't understand. It worked just as advertised in my 99 Corvette and allowed an aftermarket head unit to out-power and out-sound the factory one with the Bose subs still installed. Everyone must take note of the initialization process that is in the directions.
Pros: Simple to install Simple installation Basic directions easy to understand Default Gain settings were perfect and needed no change Perfect integration between Kenwood BT/HD unit and Bose speaker system
Cons: Well, I did have to pay for it. It wasn't free...lol
Ordered this to go with my sony head unit for my C5 corvette, and they sent the wrong output cables. Called crutchfield and was told that its a manufacture's mispackage, their sending the right one but still waiting on it so buyers be aware that this might happen to you. Not only that but for the most part the instructions are hard to understand and not detailed enough.
Cons: mispackaged/wrong output cable was sent to me and the instructions were not clear
I needed this device to install an aftermarket stereo in my 2000 Corvette. It was easy to wire and install, but at first it didn't work. I have read some bad reviews, but before I threw the thing into the woods, I started over, including completely unhooking my battery and going back to step one. Come to find out, it didn't initialize properly. Once I finished the install completely, for the second time, it worked just fine. You gotta follow the directons exactly, do not try a shortcut, and make sure it intializes, (mine beeped). Overall, it was kind of a pain, but I had to have it, and it was cheaper than bringing it to a "pro".
Pros: Maintain that Bose quality sound with an aftermarket stereo in GM vehicles
Cons: bulky / didnt work right at first, and even when it worked, the red light never lit, / kinda pricey, even at a discount, / induces foul language
I would not recomend this product for any Corvette user it will not fit 2001 C5 with Bose system.... Harness will not work tried 2 Kit's and same results with other brands kits
Cons: The fit
Once installed, the module works as it says! Let's me adjust the input gains to all speakers individually, turns the stereo off when the doors opens...I love it. I would definitely recommend updating the instructions on it and when it's shipped, ensure it has ENGLISH instructions in the package, not just Spanish!
Pros: Let's me use the factory features of my Bose system
Cons: Bad instructions and extra wires. Crutchfield's link to info about the new "extra" wires didn't work, so I spent several hours researching Corvette blogs about how to make it work and what the additional wires were for.
i did not get the crome one? and i got another box with wires going to it . It plug in good but i have a third harness from factory and no place tto hook it up. the light on the box never came on and my speakers sounded bad turn the srews to adjust but nithing happen. spent alot of time trying to make it sound good gave up sending it back.plus i did what they said turn key on then off 30 sec. stereo never shut off when i open door had to shut it off before you get out . i had bad luck spent alot of money
Easy install, good directions for electrical connections, and works!
Works well, could be smaller to facilitate much easier installatin. I am happly with the
performance when used with my Dual ZHD7714
I used this unit in my 1999 Corvette convertible along with a Sony DSX-S300BTW head unit. The documentation provided by Metra is abysmal - considering that this unit is specifically for the Corvette, there should be much more detail. Finally getting it to work (after two solid days of working on it) was the result of my trial-and-error, Crutchfield tech support, and info I got on one of the Corvette forum sites. At this point, I have got it working but it appears to have a bad harness as moving the harness causes the bass to go out (or come back in, depending on how you move it). Crutchfield has been responsive and is sending me a new one. I would suggest to Crutchfield that if you are going to sell this item, and you are aware of the terrible documentation that the manufacturer includes, you should go ahead and provide supplemental documentation for your customers.
I really do want this one to work as the other options out there lack some key features that this one has. While I did have bass, they seemed to be solid when I made adjustments.
Received the unit in no time. Previously, Crutchfield had them on back order due
to the fact that the supplier who made particular part(s) for the previous
version of the unit had stopped their operation and the unit had to be
redesigned. Now that the factory is up and running again, this new version now
in stock went in without any difficulty and preserves the Bose sound system to
work as it is supposed to without the need for a complete dismantling and
rewiring. I used it on my '04 Vette and integrated it with my new Jenson VM
9214 (a flip up DVD/CD/USB player). It is totally "plug and play" and the pins
made good electrical contact with the old wiring harness. The new unit I
received is black and not the silver/chrome one as depicted in Crutchfield's
ad. This really does not matter though since it tucks away behind the stereo
system and hopefully, you will never see it again. I would definitely
recommend this unit and "Crutch." BTW, I understand there is another version of
a Bose wiring harness adapter available elsewhere but is does not have all the
features that this unit has. This unit preserves all the features as (e.g., the
stereo will not shut off until you open the door). I would do business with them
again should the occasional need arise.
Good: The adapter was easy to install and plugged into the factory harnesses as described. It allows use of the factory subs in the doors (which was my goal) and also adjustment of the signal level to them. I bought a Kenwood H/U also and the adapter was half price because of the combo purchase.
Bad: The first one I received didn't work so I returned it & Crutchfield sent me another (great customer service btw!). The 2nd one didn't work at first either, so I messed with the connectors and found that they snap together with the factory harness OK, but since they aren't from the same manufacturer the tolerances allowed the pins to not connect completely. I bent them just a little before snapping it together to help ensure contact. The real problem I have with the adapter is that it never disconnects power to the H/U. Forget RAP, I can turn my H/U on and off anytime w/o the key. It's not a huge deal for me to turn the H/U off every time I get out because the car is not a daily driver, but still it shouldn't be that way. I contacted Metra and they did have suggestions to try and fix it, but I'd have to take the console back out and I don't really want to do that. The documentation that comes with does leave some to be desired also.
Overall I'm OK with the purchase because I was able to keep the door subs, but I wish the power function worked right. I guess I should have called Metra before I buttoned it back up, but I didn't realize the problem until it was too late.
I found this product very easy to install, no wire splicing required. I did have to hook up a chassis ground, but that's is to be expected. It works great! The RAP (Retain Accessory Power) feature is awesome.
The only downside is the sparse documentation, I had to figure things out on my own.
I wasn't sure about using this unit to keep the Bose speakers in my 2002 Corvette. I thought if it works I save money over buying more items so I gave it a try. The unit was a lot smaller than the picture (a good thing since the corvette doesn't have much room to hide this unit). The wiring was right on (had 1 additional wire, the orange wire for a dimmer, but the Pioneer unit I purchased didn't have it, would of been nice if the instructions would of said something about it, but I was able to figure it out).
When I ordered this they were out of stock and when they got them in I bought one. Everything worked great except the red power light did not turn on. No big deal because the unit worked perfectly. The speakers sound awesome and work like they did with the stock stereo, but only better. I was glad Crutchfield had this unit on sale or I would of attempted re-wiring everything to install new speakers. I would recommend this unit if you want to keep your stock Bose speakers. It's easy to install and works as designed.
Overview: In the 1997-2004 Chevy Corvettes there are not 12-volt accessory wires currently in the factory harness making the installer run an accessory wire to the fuse box or underneath the steering column when installing an aftermarket radio. The Metra Axxess XSVI-2004 Amp Interface is designed to provide a 12-volt, 10-amp switched accessory output along with the rest of the wires needed to install an aftermarket radio.
R.A.P.: The R.A.P. (Retained Accessory Power) function, where power is supplied to the radio after the ignition is shut off until one the doors are opened is retained by the XSVI-2004 Amp Interface module.
Differential Line Converter: The XSVI-2004 will also retain the amplified door woofers through the use of a differential line converter. This helps eliminate turn on/off pops and allows you to adjust the level of the doors woofers. The XSVI-2004 Amp Interface module features four potentiometers (Front left/right and Rear left/right) to increase or decrease the audio level of the door woofers.
Installation: The Metra Axxess XSVI-2004 installs behind the vehicle's factory radio and connects between the factory radio's plug and vehicle harness. The XSVI-2004 Amp Interface module provides plug-in connectors as well as hard-wire connections.
Initialization: Once all the connection are completed, turn the vehicle's ignition key to the "On" position for thirty seconds and then turn the key off.
