The AM20 is perfect for folks who want to connect in-wall speaker cable to a wall-mounted speaker. It includes a metal mounting plate that can attach directly to a standard single-gang junction box. Just install a J-box where you'd like to mount your speaker, and you'll have a safe, clean way for your in-wall cable to exit your wall. You'll enjoy a clean, uncluttered appearance with no exposed wires.

They support my rear Polk TL250s. Good look and are versatile. Very happy with them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought three of these mounts to mount my L, R and Center speakers. They're Polk, 2 of the OWM5 and 1 TL3. The OWM5s are in corners, which made adjusting the mounts a little frustrating, but I got through it. On the speaker on the right hand side, which had to pivot to the left, I couldn't fine tune my adjustments with the speaker in place. I ended up adjusting the mount to exactly where I wanted it, loosened and turned the end piece that holds the speaker, so that the allen screw was facing down, retightening the piece and then attaching the speaker. That was the only way I had enough clearance for the wrench and my hand, with the speaker in position. Be careful with the screws that hold the face plate to your existing box/mud ring, they are WEAK. I had one snap in half while I was tightening it with a screwdriver. These mounts are the only mounts I was able to find that had all the features I wanted, and I like them a lot. I was able to get the speakers pointed exactly where I needed, and so far there hasn't been any drooping. Crutchfield has the best price, and the free shipping was super fast. I will definitely be ordering from here in the future.

Pros: works perfectly for standard metal j-boxes with metal mud rings hole for wire integrated into cover plate sturdy look fantastic can pivot and point speaker in almost any direction needed

Cons: weak screws for attaching cover plate a little pricey

Great concept, poor design

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love the idea of incorporating the speaker mount into the electrical box cover. It's the perfect solution for those of us that have wiring run through the walls. But these mounts do not live up to their promise. The manufacturer claims these mounts will hold 11 lb. speakers. I have Def Tech ProMonitor 800's, which weigh only 4 lbs. These mounts can't keep them upright for more than a few days before beginning the slow descent into what I have now titled "sleep mode", which is what I say to friends when they come over and find my speakers facing the ground. Do yourself a favor and skip these mounts. I purchased a pair of the Definitive Tech ProMount 90's at the same time and they are solid as a rock. I'm returning the Pinpoints and picking up more of the ProMounts.

Pros: -Combines speaker mount with electrical box face plate

Cons: -Can't support 4 lb speaker, let alone the 11 lbs. that the manufacturer claims -The strut that attaches to the face plate wobbles, so it's difficult to get the speaker angle correct

Easy to install if your ceiling & wall is pre-wired with electrical boxes. Mounted plate and long rod to ceiling, mounted adapter to speaker, then connected the two units.

Pros: Easy install, I used with Klipsch surround speakers. Installed two on wall, and six from ceiling using long post set up off pre-wired electrical box.

Cons:

OK, but can't handle the weight

Installed as wall mounts. My speakers weigh only two pounds and these mounts have difficulty holding them without sagging. They are difficult to adjust and the allen screws are hard to tighten. I would not recommend for a heavy speaker.

Pros: Look good.

Cons: Hard to adjust and secure.

Our home had been per-wired for surround sound and we used the AM20 to mount the Bose Acoustamas single cube speakers. The AM20 was the perfect solution since it offered the option to mount directly to the single gang box. Very straightforward installation, and provides a very clean, professional installation.

Pros: Simple, quick and easy.

Cons: A tad bit pricey.

Excellent brackets

Chad from Atlanta, GA on 9/18/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent product. I used these to hang my Polk TL 250 Blackstone speakers. They are very solid and hold the speakers well. The only issue I had was that the bolts provided weren't the right length (like some other reviewers said), but I went and bought new bolts (machines screws that were 1/4-20X1-1/2) for about a buck and they are snug as can be now. I cut out drywall and installed a single gang box to work with these speakers and am extremely pleased. The clean look and cable management also are a huge plus for me. If you are installing on a single gang box, look no further than this product!

Pros: Look, stability, cable management

Cons: Screws didn't work that came with product, but easily correctable.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These worked great for some 6lb speakers with a threaded connector. I had to toss half the hardware once done since it's a generic kit. Seems like they could make some specific kits and save a few dollars and some parts for those who are sure of what they need. But still, they worked out great for my install.

Over rated

Gene from Hilo, HI on 8/20/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a pair of these with NHT Superzero 2s which weigh less than 6 pounds. These mounts have difficulty holding these speakers without sagging. There is no way they will hold a 12 pound speaker. The little allen head set screws strip out when trying to apply enough tension to keep the speakers from sagging. The omnimounts are likely a better option.

Pros: Comes with electrical box wall plates that I was able to use without the electrical box for a nice looking install.

Cons: Will NEVER, EVER hold a 12 pound speaker at any angle other than fully collapsed. Instructions aren't very good.

High quality and very nice finished look

JohnR from Bellevue, WA on 7/10/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently retrofit a room with a home theater and used these mounts on the ceiling for book-shelf sized speakers. Each speaker weighs around 7lbs and these are solid. There are multitude of adjustment options and any angle is posible. The kit included an extension bar which I did not need, although I did mount the speakers horizontally. There are also a number of screws and mounting options contained in the kit. Overall a great option for just about any mounting requirement of smaller speakers.

Very pleased with the mounts. Wanted something that would mount directly to en electrical box. Was using these mounts in conjunction with Sony home theater speakers. MK from Danville, PA on 3/30/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product Design is good. The bracket that connects to the speaker actually broke in two pieces as I was tightening the screw on the back of Bose 100 series speaker!! The part is made of cast iron and is actually very brittle. Crutchfield was very understanding and shipped a complete new package. Thanks Crutchfield! Will have to see how the product stands-up in the Basement Home theater.

Pros: Good Looking, well designed.

Cons: Pictorial Instructions that came with the product are very confusing and disorganized. I recommend the user perform a trial run to see how the parts all fit to gather first before getting up on the step ladder! Cast Iron parts. Even 1/8 turn to tighten the screw broke the bracket in two.

Great for pre-wired installation

Aaron S from Chattanooga, TN on 3/15/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are great for pre-wired installation. They fit right over the standard electrical box. If you don't need them for that feature, I imagine you could find a less expensive product that would meet your needs, but I am certain these would work in other types of installation as well. I am using them with Mirage Nanosat Prestige (excellent fit) and a couple regular Nanosats (not as good of a fit). The instructions were a little hard to follow.

Pros: Fits over a standard electrical box, versatile mounting options and speaker pointing.

Cons: The provided screws work perfectly with the Nanosat Prestige, but the short screw is too short for the regular Nanosats, and the long one is too long for them. I ended up using the too long one. The speaker sticks off the mount due to this, but it seems secure and it is at the ceiling, so it is pretty much impossible to notice it. If you are using it to mount Nanosats, I suggest trying to get a mid-length screw, or using a bunch of washers or something to make the long screw work.

The Pinpoint AM20 mount is very well designed and easily installed. Well worth the money. Speaker wire is almost unseen. I used 2 of them on electrical gang boxes. Worked extremely well.

Cons: Maybe a little better installation instructions.

Gang Box Cover

Beastdog from SD on 2/3/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good looking mount to cover the in wall gang box. Hardware supplied made it so no drilling into my speakers. I can't get them to hold up my 9 lbs Klipsch as designed. I was able to get them to hold the 9 lb speakers but only in one position "facing Down".

Pros: Looks

Cons: Not able to hold 11 lbs as advertised.

Ball-and-socket joint faulty

Colin S from Cleveland, OH on 1/20/2012

Probably more of a design issue than a complaint, but the ball-and-socket joint is secured by 2 screws. Unfortunately, in my case, the screws failed to lock onto the ball causing the speaker to droop towards the floor. In fact, the screws can be tightened through the guide hole causing the screw to become lodged in the joint. Maybe it was just a defective item, but annoying nonetheless.

Finally, a good look for speaker wall mounts!!!

Susan C from Olathe, Ks on 9/16/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I could not believe my good fortune in finding these speaker wall mounts. They look so clean cut on the wall without the wire showing. Before we had the wire going from the electrical box on wall to the speaker mount close by, and I couldn't stand the look. (Tacky!!). Now with this product the plate and speaker mount fit over the electrical box. You feed the wire through the plate and then to the speakers. Believe me you won't be sorry, you will really like the new look.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased a new home theater system and was told by the sales people that my Definitive Technology speakers required proprietary mounts. However, I have a brand new house, pre-wired for surround sound in the living room. Those mounts would not fit on the electrical box already in place. These mounts were exactly what I was looking for and were compatible with my speakers. The only comment I have (which is both good and bad) is that they came with every possible mounting/install option possible for both wall or junction box mount. This is great as it allows many options, but also makes me wonder if I paid for tons of extras I don't need. Overall, I highly recommend these mounts for small speakers.

Nice heavy duty mount. Mounted Sony rear surround speaker. Suggestion: I figured out which pieces I would need before mounting. Set it up on a table then mount. Had no issues with the hardware that was supplied. I would recommend to anyone. I don't believe this is worth the price, more like 18.99 or 15.99 but I would purchase this again.

GK from Hampton, NJ on 2/8/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had to buy srews because the package did not fit the Polk Audio TL2 speaker connection. Disappointed that the plate allowing wire penetration does not combine with the plastic cover plate hiding the wall screws; the plastic cover can only be used with the bracket, but then a separate solution is needed for wire penetration through the sheetrock. Unfortunately, I have not found a neat solution to install and hide the wire in an aesthetic package. I still have second thoughts if it was worth it.

I used these with my Energy RC 5.1 micro's and they worked very well. The only problem was that the screw provided by the Energy Micro's was a little long and the washers provided by the pinpoint am20's weren't thick enough so the speaker shook a little when the screw was completely tightened. This was easily fixed by getting some thicker washers but should these have been provided by pinpoint or the speakers? I don't know. Set up requires attention but the final outcome was very good. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase and the guys @ Crutchfield are great!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the bracket that is used without an electrical box, there does not appear to be a conduit, hole, etc. for speaker wires. I went ahead and used the other plate instead. Also, one of the allen head screws disappeared into the hole it was in when I tried to tighten it and I could not retreive it. I went ahead and used another screw on top of it (rather than sending the bracket back for another one), which is not ideal but got the bracket sufficiently tight to hold my Energy micro speakers. These speakers are very small and light. I doubt this "jury rig" would have worked with speakers that weighed several pounds. Otherwise, the brackets come with a lot of hardware for securing different types of speakers and are OK.

Ceiling mounters be ware...This does not appear to be a true universal mount from the "key hole" sense. The "key" from this mount was to thick for my Def Tech ProMonitor 800s therefore could not "slide in place". I will not have to attempt to use the screw mount which is located towards the bottom of this speaker. I am concerned there will not be enough clearance for the speaker at this point. I have not moved into the new house just yet so i cannot validate this screw mount will work yet, but i definitely felt compelled to share with potential buyers that the keyhole method does not appear to be universal.

I have larger Onkyo speakers from one of those complete "Home Theater Systems" that include 5.1 speakers and a pretty entry level receiver. The speakers weigh within spec of what these mounts are spec'd to hold, but I was worried none the less. I installed my mounts to the j-boxes that existed in the ceiling for my surround sound pre-wire. The mounts are holding my speakers with no issues. The installation looks clean and impresses my friends. Over all this product is awesome. I would not hesitate to buy these again.

I needed speaker stands or mounts for the rear surround sound speakers for a Panasonic SC-BT100. This is a wireless rear speaker system, so this installations did not involve prewired junction boxes. The speaker brackets mounted easily into available wall studs, the speakers have standard threaded mounting holes that fit perfectly with included machine screws, and the 'ball and socket' connections between the mounting parts allow for infinite orientation the the speakers. A snap together cover completed the installation to look as though it was a cover on an electrical box...very clean look. Thanks to Marie for helping me select these mounts.

Tom from Wayne, PA on 1/29/2009

I prewired the house for surround sound while it was being built without any predetermined idea about mounting the speakers. The electrician suggested I use junction boxes to identify where the wires terminated in the walls. It was a great suggestion, it made mounting the brackets and speakers a piece of cake. The brackets have infinite adjustment so you need to study excactly how you want to use them. They easily attached to my Polk speakers. If I were doing it all over, I would plan on using these mounts again.

My home came with the ceiling prewired for surround sound. I got the Onkyo HT-S5100, which have keyhole mounts. These brackets are great! They fit perfectly over the junction boxes. The only complaint I have is that there isn't a bracket designed to ceiling mount the center speaker which has two keyhole slots (one at each end of the speaker). I had to get creative to mount this.

Gary from Yorkville, IL on 1/23/2009

I purchased these mounts since my house was pre-wired for surround. There are junction boxes where the speakers should be mounted. The hard part was making sure that I found speakers that would be compatible with the mounts. My old surround speakers were on stands and very heavy. I ended up purchasing the Polk Audio RM6751 speakers from Crutchfield at the same time. These speakers will work with either the single threaded insert or the keyhole. The illustrations in the instructions are not very clear but once I figured it out, the mounting was a piece of cake. There are small screws that tighten and loosen so that you can turn the speakers the way you want which is pretty awesome. The only problem is that after moving the speakers in different directions several times, I think I stripped one of the screws. Anyway, I will try a home improvement store to see if I can find another one. Overall, I thought this was a great product for mounting to a single-gang junction box.

Awesome for Junction Box mounts

Arthur from IL on 1/23/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Our builder pre-wired for 5.1 surround so we needed a mount that would look clean on the wall and attach to the junction boxes that they used for the pre-wire. I was a little concerned because the junction box was installed horizontally rather than the traditional vertical mount. However, the mount is so flexible, it can directionally handle any angle mount. I can't imagine a junction box mount that it couldn't handle. I used the mount for a Bose Accoustimass 10 Series IV. I couldn't be happier. And the even better news is that my wife is happy with the look. Trust me, that is quite the accomplishment.

Best Solution for Junction Box Mounting

Jesi from Charlotte, NC on 11/15/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Our builder pre-wired for 5.1 surround so we needed a mount that would look clean on the ceiling and attach to the junction boxes that they used for the pre-wire. I have Mirage Nanostat satellites mounted to the ceiling with these AM20's. There was no problem with the mounting angles and options (360 degree spin as well as 90 degree tilt from the bracket). The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the three small screws (as seen on the description picture) used to tighten the various swing arms of the mount are easy to strip. They are tightened with the supplied allen wrench, but are easily stripped when tightening enough to keep a 4 pound speaker in the desired location.

Great Speaker Mount

Dan from AZ on 11/9/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to mount my Klipsch XL-12 (Left/Right) and Klipsch XL-23 (Center) speakers for my home theater system. The XL-12's use one mount and the XL-23 used two. They were very easy to mount to the wall and then attach the speakers. I used the "electrical box" style wallplate for all of them and ran the speaker wire from behind the wall directly through the hole in the wallplate and it looks good. You can hardly see the wire. It is very easy to move the speaker to any orientation you want and lock it down. They have no problem holding the XL-12 @ 7.5 lbs in a vertical orientation with one bracket. I used two on the XL-23 since it is 18 lbs and it is rock solid. The only issue I had was that the ¼" x 20 screw to attach to the speaker wasn't in the package so I just went down to the local hardware store and bought some, no problem. I looked for quite a while to find the right brackets to let me mount these speakers to the wall and hold them away from the wall a few inches while holding this much weight. These are working great and are very solid.

Before reading, please understand that I knew BOSE had a speaker mount available, but I liked the way these mounted on the wall better... continue. Okay, I purchased this product thinking it would truly be a universal product. I thought it would allow me to fit my Bose lifestyle 48 speakers on a single gang box rather than having multiple holes in my walls for a "simple" speaker mount. 1. The hole in the plate wasn't big enough to pull the giant hole through, so I drilled a 3/4" hole to give me room. It worked perfect, easily sliding the ridiculous tip of the proprietary BOSE speaker through. 2. Found out this wasn't the biggest problem. After "damaging the plates" (not returnable) I realized the product doesn't come with a way to mount these speakers to the arm either. Even if I found a screw that fit my Bose speakers, the end of the arm is too big and covers the speaker connection. That was an expensive lesson I taught myself. The quest continues.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to mount some Polk R150 bookshelf speakers on my walls. I was able to use the included two-point adapter to mount the speakers on these brackets by removing two of the screws in the speaker binding post plate and replacing them with longer ones. I had to mount the adapter vertically on the speaker cabinet and off center. But this still worked. Due to the sideways angle that I had to use to mount the speakers in my room (using the 100mm posts), this put a lot of excess torque on the mounting post. The posts are secured from turning in the j-box plates by use of an elongated hole. The excess torque put on the posts caused them to start to turn in the metal plates (since the plates are just a standard thickness j-box plate). They started to turn in the holes. This did not happen when using the direct wall mounting bracket that also came with the AM20s. The wall/stud bracket is a thicker metal than the j-box plates. I ended up fixing the problem with the plates by putting some epoxy on the end of the 100mm shafts prior to securing them to the j-box plates, and using a larger backing washer under the post nut. I know that my setup was a little unorthodox due to the mounting angles of my speakers, the weight /size of the speakers, and that I was using the 100mm posts for wall mounting, even though they are meant for ceiling mounting. All in all, these brackets are well engineered and manufactured. And they look great.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased a new home that I had pre-wired for surround sound. The builder installed single gang boxes with cover plates to conceal the wiring. I purchased these mounts because they easily installed right to the box. I couldn't be happier with the final outcome. I have bose accoustimass speakers and mounted them to the ceiling. I love the way these speakers can be directed practically anywhere. I would highly recommend this product if your house is pre-wired like I mentioned above.

Features

Overview: The Pinpoint AM20 Universal Home Theater Speaker Wall/Ceiling Bracket is suitable for all home theater satellite speakers with the following types of mountings - Single Threaded insert, Dual threaded inserts, Keyhole. This bracket is a complete mounting solution for home theater speakers and will work for both wall or ceiling applications. This speaker bracket also comes with a steel adapter plate that allows the speaker bracket to attach directly to a single ganged electrical box if your home is pre-wired. In addition, the bracket comes supplied with a short-arm (45mm) and an extension-arm (100mm) to place your speaker closer or further away from the wall or ceiling. The AM20 speaker bracket supports speakers up to 11 lbs. Once your speaker is mounted the AM20 allows you to rotate your speaker 360-degrees and pivot the speaker 90-degrees for precise positioning of the speaker in your home theater system. The AM20 comes supplied with all the necessary hardware to mount your speaker to the bracket and the bracket to your wall or ceiling.

Note: The AM20 is sold individually as a single speaker bracket; not in pairs. The AM20 is available in the following finishes - Black, White and Silver.

Speaker Mounts: The bracket works with the following types of satellite speakers mounts:

  • Single Threaded Insert: If the speaker has a single threaded insert, one of the supplied long screws (M5 x 25mm, M6 x 25mm, 1/4"-20 x 1", or 1/4"-20 x 1.75") can be used to attach the speaker to the bracket using the single point adapter.
  • Dual Threaded Inserts: If the speaker has dual threaded inserts, you must first attach the dual point adapter plate to the bracket, then use the shorter screw pairs (M5 x 12mm, M6 x 12mm, or 1/4"-20 x 1") to attach the speaker to the bracket. Screw spacing for the dual point adapter plate is 1.9375" to 2.625"
  • Keyhole Slot: If the speaker has a keyhole slot, you must first loosely attach the M5 threaded screw-cap to the M5 x 12mm screw through the single point adapter. The head of the screw is then inserted into the keyhole slot and tightened to hold the speaker firmly.

Wall Mounting: The speaker bracket's metal mounting plate is first mounted to the wall in a vertical position. There are 2 mounting holes with a screw spacing of 1.875" to 2.625" for the supplied wood screws, plus a raised lip for routing the speaker wire through the wall. Once the metal mounting plate is secured to the wall, the cover plate snaps over the metal mounting plate for a clean and professional look. In addition, the speaker bracket comes supplied with a steel adapter plate that allows the AM20 to attach directly to a single ganged electrical box if your home is pre-wired.

Mounting Requirement: It is recommended that the bracket be mounted to a wall or ceiling stud. If the only location is drywall for ceiling or wall mounting then it will necessary to use the supplied drywall anchors for a speaker up to 5 lbs. If your speaker is over 5 lbs, it will be necessary to obtain high quality drywall anchors like Buildex E-Z Toggle or toggler Anchor available at most hardware stores in the US.

A junction box would be optimal but is not required. If you are to mount in drywall make sure you use the proper anchor screws and verify the drywall can support the weight you plan on holding. [ Paul  Jun 02, 2016 ]
I suppose that you could mount them right to drywall as long as you are using some hefty anchors. They recommend mounting to studs for stability purposes. I am using junction boxes for mine due to the location they have to be in and the weight of my speakers (they are older Infinity satellites). [ Robert  May 20, 2016 ]
I specifically selected this mount because it mounted on a junction box and it works very well. I see no reason why it would not mount to wall given the correct mounting hardware. You can also use an "old work" junction box. If not using a junction box, there are other options that would have a smaller footprint. [ MICHAEL  May 19, 2016 ]
As long as the speaker is light enough, you probably could mount it in drywall, but you might want to invest in some drywall screws or put it where there's a stud. [ Jeffrey  May 18, 2016 ]
No do not need a junction box. Can mount directly to a stud [ Geoffrey  May 18, 2016 ]
They are not recommended for use with the Acoustimass 10 series V speakers, no. The Bose UB-20 II are the recommended mounting brackets for those speakers: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_018UB20IIB/item.html I hope that helps! I have these for both ceiling and wall mount with the Polk TL's. They work great in both applications. [ David  Jun 11, 2016 ]
I have these mounts and love them. Once I get home and check the box I'll see if ceiling mount will work. Btw, I have the speakers and love them. Just make sure you pair those with a good sub. [ DAVE  Jun 11, 2016 ]
I have mounted some Polk surround sound speakers not sure the model but they worked well. [ BRADLEY  Jun 10, 2016 ]
