Must-have for novice installers

Written by: Jmofunk from Norman, OK on April 29, 2016

2007 Honda Pilot

I just completed my first installation of an aftermarket head unit, and purchasing these tools as part of my Crutchfield package was a great recommendation by the Crutchfield Advisor. It was super easy to get the trim out of the dash with these tools, leaving no marks or scratches. It looks like a pro did the install!

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: none

The right tool

Written by: AlexAloha from Kaneohe, HI on April 28, 2016

2002 Toyota Highlander

I have one of these tools with a screwdriver like handle and metal fork end, but I like the all plastic quality of not scratching the car's plastic trim. Seriously considered the set of 6, but found these 3 have thus far, been all I really need. One could make do with a plastic putty knife or large flat head screwdriver with a taped end, but it is much easier to do the job right with the right tool.

Pros: Well designed, plastic/nylon material less likely to damage door and panel trim on cars. Blue color makes it easy to find in a tray full of tools.

Cons: Seems to require a bit more volume to reach optimum sound. Maybe a function of location/placement, but car audio speakers should be designed with this in mind.

These tools need to be made out of metal

Written by: Drew from Southington, CT on April 25, 2016

I broke one of the three tools I received, I ended up buying metal ones! At any rate I still used two of them and they did the job but using the metal tools were easier to get the door panels off

Pros: Convenient to get with your order of replacement speakers.

Cons: They are plastic and may break easily

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Id give this six stars if there was a place, This tool made it nice and easy to remove my dash face plate. I had a brake light burn out and needed to replace it. I used this tool to remove the pop pins that hold the panels in place. Normally the job was done with pliers, screw driver, whatever would work,, Id always leaves scratches behind,,, not with this tool. I never knew these existed until my crutchfields rep recommended it to me. I think every house hold and garage should have a few of these for those pryie, pokie, pushie moments lol. Oh, and for putting in car stereos too. The material seems pretty tough too, I was thinking about letting my dog try one out just to see how tough it is.. If i do, ill do an update here.

Pros: six stars

Cons: none,

Written by: Mark P from greensboro, NC on February 15, 2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had hopes for using a modern product for trim removal. I've upgraded equipment in most of my previous vehicles, (at least 14 of them). In all that time, I used a Tupperware orange peeler to wedge apart trim pieces and loosen fasteners. With my recent purchase, I thought it might help to use current tools to ensure I didn't damage anything. The tools looked fairly sturdy and flexible. The one with the angled head was too thick to slide into most gaps. The flat on with a single tip was used the most. On the four doors there was on piece of trim which was notoriously stubborn based on feedback from fellow F-150 owners. I removed it successfully on the first three doors. On the fourth, however, the tip snapped off the tool. Overall, I'm not very impressed .

These tools do the job for removing trim pieces. No damage to the trim or other pieces of the car as you pry the pieced off. I suppose you could use a screw driver with electrical tape on the end, but with the price of car parts I'd err on spending the money on these tools.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Boy were these helpful. I'm glad the crutchfield representative recommended that I get these. I used these tools to install my head unit, front door speakers and rear door speakers. The 45 degree angle pry was especially helpful. Only thing I can think of is to maybe to include a 90 degree tool as well. Could've used it for more leverage and awkward angles. The 45 degree pry tool sufficed though.

Pros: Worked like a charm and weren't cheap and flimsy. 3 different tools that help with different panels and trims.

Cons: Need to include a 90 degree pry tool as well.

great quality Trim Panel tools but missing a knife edge tool

Written by: Dave from California on December 11, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These tools can take a beating. I torqued, twisted, bent, pushed, pulled, and overall abused the heck out them and they are more or less unscathed. Great quality. Only criticism is that there is a missing tool. You need to have a thin knife edge tool to pop up the nylon body panel insert clips high enough to get the other Trim panel tools under it. I had to make one out of some spare nylon I had lying around the garage. I took a piece of nylon and used a file to put a knife edge on it. Until I made this tool I was spending 5-10 minutes getting each nylon body panel insert clip out. After I had the knife edge home made tool it only took about 10 seconds. Pop the knife edge under the nylon clip, pop the Trim panel tool under the knife edge, pop out the nylon clip; done.

Pros: Great quality. Will last a long time.

Cons: Missing a thin knife edge tool to pop the body panel insert clips up high enough so that you can get one of the other Trim Panel tools under it.

Using Bojo Trim Panel Tools

Written by: garye from California on September 26, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the Bojo Trim Panel Tools to assist with door panels to install new speakers. There were no instructions include the tools so I had to figure out how to use them. No Big deal since their use was fairy straight forward. The two with the forked ends were used to pry up the panels retaining clips, the flat one was used to find the hidden clips. I did just that, found a clip and used a forked pry tool to lift the clip out of it's hole. I was surprised that the tool promptly bent. So I then had the idea to lift then panel with one hand while using the pry tool on the retaining clip and viola the clip popped out. I then used that technique to remove the rest on the clips on that panel. And the panel lifted off.

Pros: They did help remove the door panel

Cons: They easily bent No instruction for use

Never really needed them although I did use two out of the three just for fun... but I would say they're good to have. If you have the extra couple bucks, might as well throw 'em in your cart. They don't seem 'unbreakable', but they seem sturdy enough to do what they're meant for. Just use them gently and don't force too much. Overall a nice package to have around.

Pros: Inexpensive, Easy To Use, Strong Enough

Cons: None really

If you're a DIY installer, these are a "must" for your toolkit. With these three tools I was able to not only remove interior dashboard panels, but was also able to route cables behind and in between panels without removing the panels. These are also perfect for removing door panels quickly and easily for things such as speaker replacement, replacing a window motor, door handle, or weather stripping.

Pros: Versatile and well made; makes interior work with dashboard panels and door panels a breeze

These tools are easy to use and are critical to avoid destroying your door panel. Before starting my DIY project, I watch a video in internet on how to remove a panel door. I felt like a pro with these tools and what I learned watching the video. My advice to readers is, first to expose and remove bolts before starting removing the panel. And, second, work the panel from the bottom to the top.

These trim panel removal tools are quite useful in helping to remove various types of trim pieces and they perform exactly as expected. They are not designed to remove trim automatically - they are designed to help you remove trim without scratching up the surrounding areas or the trim itself. Besides installing a head unit, speakers, and an amp, I have found these tools useful in several other applications around the home.

Pros: The quality of the tools seems to be pretty good. They do exactly what they are designed to do.

Useful Tools

Written by: Damon from Naples, FL on July 1, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these tools specifically for speaker installation in my 2014 Ford Mustang. I installed speakers in the door and the rear deck. The straight, non-forked pry bar was ideal for removing the plastic pieces of trim from the door without scuffing or scratching the materials. Also, the angled, forked prybar was ideal for removing push-pins which hold the rear deck in place. So, I was quite happy with my purchase. The tools are the right size and sturdy enough for multiple uses. I highly recommend them. Do not use a flat head screwdriver to remove the panels/trim. Use the proper tools, like these.

Pros: Safe to use on plastic door panels and pieces. A variety of heads for the job. Solid construction.

Did the job, but...

Written by: Ruben from San Jose, CA on April 19, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave this product 3 stars because I couldn't have done the job without it. However, it didn't work as well as I expected. I removed the stereo from a 2006 Honda Accord - middle dash section, center console fold up pocket, trip around shift lever, etc. The gap around trim panels is very tight and the blade tip seemed to be about twice as thick. Trying to insert the tool between the dash panel was far more difficult that I thought and required lots of force to get the tool into the gap. As a result, several marks or impressions were left. Since the dashboard is someone soft, I'm hoping those impressions will eventually rebound or have a memory effect. Someone disappointed since I'm a bit of a perfectionist. The tools themselves appear to be very durable.

Pros: Tools appear rugged and durable enough for the average job.

Cons: The bladed or thin edge of the blade was not thin enough.

While these may seem like just fancy pieces of plastic, they're well worth the money. I have an older vehicle, and the trim pieces can be brittle.
