PAC's ANS-80 noise filter installs on your alternator output lead to suppress alternator whine (a noise that varies in pitch with engine RPM). This high-quality part is sealed for long-life. Two 10-gauge cables connect to your vehicle's alternator and battery. It's suitable for marine use. Warranty: 30 days.

TIP: Sometimes alternator whine can be cured just by topping off the fluid in your battery or properly grounding your in-dash stereo.

Don't waste your money.

Written By Timothy, Boston, MA on Wednesday, October 19, 2005

My first impression was not very good when I recieved the product. My stock alternator cable is at least 8 gauge, and this thing uses 10 gauge cables. I was a little bit skeptical of how it would help since it seems that all it was going to do is restrict the flow of electricity from my altternator. When I installed it on my alternator, I made sure all the connections were solid. I solder everything since those crimp-on butt-connectors come loose. Within 24 hours my battery, an Optima Yellow Top, was dead. I did not notice any difference in the level of the alternator whine, only the fact that my battery was dead. I cut the thing out and jumped my car and everything was okay again.

My suggestion to anyone would be to avoid this cheap short cut and spend the time and money on getting a better alternator, better cables, and make sure that you have a good ground. This was a complete waste of time and money and a pretty much useless piece of equipment.

Application: The ANS-80 is used to remove noise induced through the power lead of your audio system. It is wired between the alternator and battery, designed to eliminate the noise at its source. The mounting tab of the ANS-80 serves as its ground point to shunt noise. PAC suggests the effectiveness may be increased by adding a capacitor in parallel with the output (4700, 10000, or 50000 micro farad). Note: The power supply isn't the only potential source of noise in an audio system, noise is commonly caused by insufficient grounding, so the ANS-80 will not solve all noise problems.
