Product Research

Features

Radio Replacement Interface: The PAC C2R-FRD1 is an essential installation accessory for select 2005 and up Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and Mazda vehicles with MSCAN databus radios. Using this interface will enable factory features such as rear seat entertainment (RSE), rear seat controls (RSC) and the THXII amplifier when the original radio is removed. Other features of the C2R-FRD1 include data bus driven retained accessory power (RAP), vehicle speed sensor (VSS) output, illumination, reverse output, parking brake output and a 5-volt regulated amp turn-on for factory installed subwoofers. The C2R-FRD1 also makes use of the factory AUX input jack (if available).

Notes: Does not retain Ford SYNC.

Compatible Vehicles: The PAC C2R-FRD1 is compatible with select versions of the following Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and Mazda vehicles:

  • Ford
    • Edge: 2007-2010
    • Escape: 2008-2012
    • Expedition: 2007-2014
    • Explorer: 2006-2010
    • Explorer Sport Trac: 2007-2010
    • F-150: 2009-2014
    • F-250/350/450: 2008-2012
    • Five Hundred: 2005-2007
    • Flex: 2009-2012
    • Focus: 2008-2011
    • Freestyle: 2006-2007
    • Fusion: 2006-2012
    • Mustang: 2005-2013
    • Taurus: 2008-2012
    • Taurus X: 2008-2009
  • Lincoln
    • MKS: 2009-2012
    • MKT: 2010-2012
    • MKX: 2007-2010
    • MKZ: 2007-2012
    • Navigator: 2007-2014
    • Zephyr: 2006
  • Mercury
    • Mariner: 2008-2011
    • Milan: 2006-2011
    • Montego: 2005-2007
    • Mountaineer: 2006-2010
    • Sable: 2008-2009
  • Mazda
    • Tribute: 2008-2011

Notes:

  • If the vehicle is equipped with the Sony factory stereo system, adjust the fader to your preferred front/rear setting before the factory radio is removed. Neither the aftermarket radio nor the C2R-FRD1 interface has the ability to adjust the factory amplifier's fader. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm compatibility.
  • 2008 F250/350/450 with XL trim package are not compatible; these vehicles do not have the necessary CAN bus signals.
  • Does not retain RSE in 2006-2007 Ford Freestyle.

Optional Steering Wheel Control Adapter: If your vehicle has steering wheel controls (and the aftermarket radio is compatible) they can be integrated using the optional PAC SWI-CP2 steering wheel control interface (sold separately).

Note: Does not retain steering wheel controls in 2011-up Ford F-series trucks.

Optional Ground Loop Isolator: The audio signal coming from the RSE in Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles is a differential output. Some auxiliary inputs on aftermarket radio have a common ground input that causes distortion in the RSE audio. The audio distortion can be fixed by PAC's ground loop isolator (SNI-1, sold separately) between the RSE output from the C2R-FRD1 and the aftermarket radio's auxiliary input.

Customer Q&A

Q
I am getting this for my 2006 Mustang to install a Pioneer 2660NEX. In the cart is an option for a Ready Harness. Is that needed? It's this, is there further wiring to do that the Ready Harness eliminates the work for?
jeffrey  Jun 01, 2023
1 answer
A
It would be necessary to connect wires between the harness included with the Pioneer radio and the harness that is part of the C2R-FRD1. Our ReadyHarness service would cover the connections between these two harness.

Q
My Ford Expedition didn't utilize one of the plugs in the harness, because there were only two wiring plugs attached to the factory radio. I installed this it seems like everything is working as expected, but I just want to make sure that there wasn't something I was missing with the third plug in the harness? It wasn't specifically mention in the Crutchfield provided instructions.

It is not uncommon to have an unused harness when installing an aftermarket radio. Nevertheless, our tech support team is happy to review the installation to ensure nothing is amiss. Our toll-free Tech Support number is printed on your invoice, and is also available under the "My Orders" tab in the "My Account" section of our website.

Will this let me keep my steering wheel controls for my 2010 escape with built-in navigation?
anthony  Nov 29, 2021

A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

It was used in my 2008 MKZ ... works there ... I would encourage use of Crutchfield's installation team if possible - well worth the cost.

Q
Will this interface work in my 2011 mercury mariner with sync?
brandon  Dec 15, 2020
1 answer
A
This interface can work in those vehicles that also came with factory installed navigation. If your Mariner came without navigation but with the SYNC system, then a different wiring interface is needed and can vary depending on the audio system. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to discuss all the necessary details on your Mariner to get a personal recommendation on an interface that will work to install the new radio

Q
Will the factory steering wheel controls remain usable with this on a 2006 Mercury Milan 8-Speaker (Premium Package)? If not, what product can make these usable in association with Pioneer DEH-150MP?
garrett  May 03, 2016

A
Thanks for your question. The Pioneer receiver you listed does not support steering wheel controls and neither does this harness. For your vehicle the harness that retains steering wheel controls would be : http://www.crutchfield.com/p_541RP4FD11/PAC-RP4-FD11-Wiring-Interface.html?search=541rp4fd11&avf=N&skipvs=T You would also have to select a different receiver. When you are viewing receivers look under the details tab and the specs will tell you if the receiver is compatible with SWC. You can also check to see what fits your vehicle by using our Outfit My Car tool: http://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx For additional details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
