Find what fits your car

This PAC iPod adapter sends the music signal from your iPod to your Alpine car stereo. You get the best possible sound from your playlists, and your iPod gets a fully charged battery. Your iPod stays powered up while connected, so you'll use the iPod's controls to select your tunes.

This 50" adapter cable works with any dockable iPod. Your Alpine car stereo must have Ai-Net bus protocol for CD changer, satellite radio, or other optional Alpine equipment. Warranty: 1 year.

Note: This adapter does NOT provide control of the iPod from the stereo's faceplate and song titles are not transferred to the stereo's display. If you prefer to have these features, check out PAC's iPod control interface for select 2006-up Alpine stereos.

Alpine also offers two iPod control interfaces: the KCE-422I control interface for 2006-up Alpine stereos, and the KCA-420I control interface for older Alpine Ai-Net stereos.

Compatibility Note: Be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this iPod adapter.

Why would I need an iPod® adapter?

An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. One, you can scroll through your song titles on your stereo's larger display, instead of squinting down at your iPod. Two, you can route the adapter cable to your glove compartment or center console, so your iPod stays safely out of sight. Three, the iPod adapter keeps your iPod fully charged, so it's ready to rock when you leave your car. And last of all, some adapters bypass your iPod's internal digital-to-analog converter, using your stereo's superior DAC to turn your files back into music.

PAC iPod® Adapter for Alpine

Written By DJ, Crown Point, IN on Thursday, February 10, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

PRO: Works well with the Alpine Radio(CDA 9827). Gives me the ability to charge
and play my iphone 4 through the AUX setting in the radio.
CON: 1. I cannot use the radio head to search or play media, (music or podcasts
etc..) on the iphone.
2. I had to modify (sand down the physical size) of the male iphone connector
jacket to fit through the after market iphone protector. The connector needs to
be made to the same physical dimensions as the brand name iphone connector.

Just what we needed.

Allows my wife to listen to her i Pod in her car. Easy to install. I just wish
she could control the i Pod from the stereo. That's due to the stereo though,
not the adapter.

The price was good, too. Alpine's adapter for her stereo was nearly $100.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Simple install. First cable didnt work at all. I Troubleshot it to death. Bad cable. Crutchfiled's awesome customer support replaced it free of charge. New cable worked flawlessly... Then stopped working out of all the speakers. Needs to be re connected multiple times to work out of all speakers. All connections are great to the rear of HU. This cable is installed on a car that gets driven VERY RARELY. So I'm not connecting my ipod daily to it so the reciever to ipod plug isn't used a lot. The cable and connector are just poorly made.

Bottom line, Don't purchase this cable becuse the ipod connection piece will wear fast, then will not work properly. The headphone jack is the only part that will work, then you cant charge ipod.

Crutchfield stands by the product, eventhough PAC audio isn't a quality product.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The audio jack works great, perfect sound (w/ settings correctly set on ipod) but will not charge this way while playing. The Ipod cable works intermittently, I believe it loses its connection for a split second and pauses the audio, very frustrating! I can only play about 5-10 sec. of a podcast before it pauses again, basically renders this portion of the cable useless, except for charging. Wish the ipod cable played and charged properly and this cable would be perfect =(

Still glad I can at least play my ipod again in the car. =)

Hmmmm.... Good and bad.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this cable about 8 months ago. I was happy with it, completely, until I started getting interference... I guess the iPod connector cable has become loose. The iPod jack is great, since it will charge as you listen. I can still use the headphone jack plug, but will have to charge the iPod separately, through the cig. lighter plug. I'm not sure I would rate this product excellent...only because I feel it should be able to withstand wear and use and it hasn't--although comparatively, it's better than most I have seen (as far as construction goes). I get in and out of my car a lot, and always unplug my iPod and take it with me (theft is pretty prevalent in Atlanta parking garages, mall parking lots, etc.). I keep my iPod in a hard plastic case, which interferes with this plug's construction, due to it being wider than the standard white Apple charging plugs for iPods. I imagine the "tighness" of this plug against the case is what caused the problem with the interference in the plug. Guess it's time for a new plug... =( There's no other economical way to use my iPod without buying a new headunit...

Nice addition to my Alpine head unit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The installation was quick and easy. I was able to route the plug down through
the dash and out just above the cupholders of my 1997 Cabrio. Once its
connected I had to turn on the AUX input in the setup menu on the radio. I did
have a
slight issue getting a full connection initially and would only get partial
sound. I was able to get everything working perfectly. Works great with
my iPod Touch 3G. I also bought the Scosche IFWA passPORT which I only use if
the iPod is running low on battery power.

Ai-net terminal needed some modification

Written By George, Lillington, NC on Monday, March 15, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this harness to connect my ipod Classic to my Alpine CDA-9831. The iPod
charges great with the power and ground spliced to existing radio lines. The only
problem I had was I could not figure out why no sound was coming from the radio.
Come to find out the Ai-net terminal on this harness has a "collar" on it which prevented
the plug from being inserted all the way into the Ai-net connection on the radio. Lucky for
me the harness is not of top quality (meaning, I would normally expect to see this whole
terminal encased in hard rubber) and I was able to unclip the "collar" and it works fine!
The only thing lost by taking off the collar are the two pins which apparently lock the male
terminal into the female, however mine was very tight as it was. I am not sure whether
all Alpine radios are designed like this, so just a heads up.

Works well

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The installation was easy and the cable works well. Although, there is a somewhat irritating buzz if the volume is turned-up on lower volume music. Not sure if that is related to the grounding in the vehicle, the connection on the stereo, or the power connection. The connection is a little touchy as either the left or right channel speakers would stop working (had to disconnect and reconnect the iPod to get them to work).

I saved money and I got my iPod working in my car.. it is awsome, because with my iPod installed I have more of 6000 sounds available to leasing... it is GREAT!!!

Great product for the price

Written By Christopher, Atlanta, GA on Monday, March 23, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

1. Cost
2. Easy to install
3. Sound quality much better than FM radio transmitters.

1. Short cable length may be a problem for some
2. The part that connects to the ipod dock port does not stay in very well so I use the headphone jack connection

All in all a great product for the price. I would recommend it to anyone. I took a star off because I have to use the headphone jack instead of ipod port but its not a huge deal.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in my 2006 Acura RSX Type-S My setup includes an Alpine CDA-9835 and Alpine Amp powering 4 polks

I bought this to interface with my Iphone 3g and it works as it should It does not charge, but I knew that before purchasing the cable I currently have a Griffin Charge Converter on its way so that this cable will be able to charge my 3g AND play music

Important notes if considering this cable for your Ai-Net Alpine Deck

1 You can splice the black ground wire directly to the ground coming off your harness into the headunit instead of locating a spot on your frame to screw it into
2 When receiving a call on my iPhone 3g the music will fade to mute, the ringtone will play over the cars speakers, but I cannot hear the person's voice over the speakers when I touch to answer the call I have to put the phone on speaker phone and attempt to hear the person over my iPhone (This is my only complaint aRrrrrrgggg) Soooo close to having a fully capable in car solution for my Iphone 3g
3 Using the headphone jack that comes with this cable to hear the person's voice over the car speakers, seems to work, however their voice is so low that it's not even worth the effort (or the look) of having both the headphone jack and the bottom of the Iphone plugged in at the same time

Just installed this a few days ago to connect my ipod touch 1st gen. to Alpine 9855. Installation was easy. just plug in the connector on back of the HU, and splice the red power wire, ground the black. Sound is very clean, no other noises whatsoever. Charging is very stable too. Cable was long enough to use in my 350z.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed this today and tested it out. Works great! Only issue/complaint I have would be that the package this comes in states: "refer to instruction manual on how to select channel" Well, there is no instruction manual. For someone who is not good with car audio, this could be very frustrating. There is no direction what-so-ever on what to do or where to hook up the red and black wire coming of the AI-Net plug.

Poorly made, fails quickly

Written By Peter, Huntingdon, PA on Friday, July 11, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to install, works for awhile, but the poorly made snap-together connecter fails rapidly. Shorted out, upon inspection, the wires inside the connector are crammed in and poorly soldered, the snap-together end allows too much play and finally a: the sharp shield cuts through the wires and b: some of the soldered connections come loose. I used this product gingerly for only about five months before it failed.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

i am very happy with this product! Since i wired up my own stereo, installation took a matter of minutes. With the system I have already in my car, sound is great! The only thing I don't like is when I shut the car off my i-pod does stop charging, however does not shut off the i-pod. Just got to remember to turn it off before i leave the car. I knew before that i'd have to control my i-pod through the i-pod, and not through the deck (due to having an older unit). Other then that i am a very satisfied customer! Also Good price, could be lower....but can't they all?

This cable does not work with the Alpine CDA 7894 and 3rd Gen Ipod (Video Ipod.)

Additionally, it does not work with the iPhone. The iPhone at software version 1.4 ignores this cable completely. I'm returning it.

One of the best investments ever made

Written By GrkDrewsky, Castro Valley, CA on Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is one of the greatest investments I've ever made. After spending 3 times as much money on 2 different FM transmitters, one especially made for the iPod, this cable is the perfect solution for those without a big wallet to spend on a control unit or a new head unit. Installation of the cable was fairly simple, and didn't take long either. There should have been installation instructions included, but luckily a friend of mine who knows car audio helped me out. The only con I could give is to the Acura engineers of my '91 Integra since they should have made it easier to install an aftermarket stereo and peripherals.

PAC iPod Adapter for Alpine CDA-9833

Written By James, Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, February 05, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This adapter is great. It allows me to do 100% of what I can do hooked up to expensive headphones in my room and it charges the iPod while being used. I usually set up a playlist for my short drives but I can easily shuffle the entire list and drive for 20 hours or more without touching it. No need for a CD changer now. If I want to change a song, I simply touch the iPod feature on the face to move to the next song. It took 20 minutes to install and worked right out of the box. Well worth the money.

And Crutchfield impressed me on how well their website steered me to what I needed based on my specific car and stereo and shipping went well also. Great all round.

Good for the price

Written By Steven, Chicago, IL on Sunday, February 03, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me start off by saying this didn't work with my iPhone. Then again, I'm getting used to that. The incompatibility is what made me break down and get the new iPod Classic I've been eyeing. Volume level is good, even with SoundCheck enabled in my iPod. Despite Crutchfield's tech support saying this hasn't worked well in daisy chain, it worked fine with my XM Direct kit. The negatives for this product: You get relatively short power and ground leads and they're thin (20 ga or so), so disassembling your stereo harness is a MUST; Removing my iPod while in Aux mode on my CDA-9831 sometimes causes a loud POP; and the cable on this is somewhat inflexible, especially in the cold. It all adds up to a very cheap feel for the PAC kit. In my case, that's ok because I have an aging Alpine system that will be sold once I can afford a new car. Overall, I'm happy with the PAC kit because it works and it's cheap. To each his own, I suppose. Thanks for reading!

Short and to the point! Money well spent! Installs easily. Wiring the power cables is not necessary, but nice to keep your i-pod charged. The cable length is short, but still worked well for application in a 2001 Jeep Wrangler.

These guys are 100% on the money...EASY to install (even with my Sasquatch hands and very limited mechanical talents), and works like a charm. No noise at all; any deviation from CD quality is imperceptible by me.

Cord may be a bit short for some, but I am using it in an Accord sedan and there is plenty of slack.

This product is a perfect upgrade to annoying FM trannys, and C-Field will get it to you fast, well before the ADD takes over.

Installation Instructions Please

Written By Steven, CT on Saturday, October 13, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works very well, well made, cord is long enough for my use but I see how in a larger vehicle 4' might be short (mine is an Altima). But, the instructions are a joke, and not a very funny one.

Lack of instructions gave me pause especially where best to wire the positive lead - splice it (yes), find a place to put it where it has its own power wire (also would work). The ground wire is pretty skimpy, too, I would have liked to see at least a 22 ga. wire if not an 18 ga.

While it does not allow control of the iPod from my older Alpine CDA9813, it works well - just remember you may have disabled AUX input and have to enter setup on your HU to re-enable it or this won't work. Once you enable the AUX input and select it, it's all good.

Perfect Solution

Written By Richard, Bay Area, Ca. on Monday, February 26, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have the older Alpine head unit CDA-9827 and a 30g iPod. As everyone else, I wanted to use my iPod in my vehicle in place of cd's.

Initially I was going to get the FM radio/iPod adapter, but after much research I decided that the FM radio adapter would offer inferior sound and spotty reception.

The other Alpine accessory that allows you to control the iPod via the head unit looked like a good alternative unit I noticed you needed space to place the unit and the interaction between the iPod and the music was slow. Additionally, this unit was a bit pricy for me.

I then read about this simple adapter – easy to install, charges the iPod, good music selection response (no delays), the sound is excellent (as long as you have a good sounding audio system already), and is easy on the bank account.

Well, after ordering from Crutchfield, receiving the adapter in two business days and installing in less than 30 minutes, all I have to say is, this is the perfect solution.

PAC iPod® Adapter for Alpine

Written By Kevin, Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Saturday, January 27, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The PAC iPod Adapter for Alpine was the best choice for me. After researching the different options I had to listen to my iPod in my truck, the PAC iPod adapter was the best fit. It was very easy to install even though the istallation instructions aren't very helpful.

The sound is very near CD quality and it keeps my iPod charged at the same time. The 4 foot cable is a bit short but I was able to manage. Would definitely recommend this to someone who has a slightly older Alpine head unit (I have a 2004).

Good alternative to KCA-420i, others

Written By younger72, Dallas/Ft Worth, TX on Tuesday, January 09, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After reading the reviews for the Alpine KCA-420i and its clunky navigation, I decided to give this thing a shot.

The Good:
Sound quality- No white noise or feedback coming through. Even the best FM modulators and cassette adaptors dont come close to this (and I've tried both). Audio is superb; pure and crisp.
Charges the iPod - Not much else to say, just make sure you unplug your iPod so it doesnt drain the car battery.
Clean Installation - No hideaway box or module to deal with. Just a single cable running from your HU to the iPod.

The Bad:
Wire length. While I can easily access the cable and my iPod, I'm sure for some vehicle setups, 4 feet might not be enough length to comfortably control the iPod.
Installation Instructions - The instructions that come with the cable are the same as on PAC's website, and it is an almost entirely useless single paragraph. Fortunately, it is a rather easy install. For those that dont know, the red wire splices into the power lead and the black wire into a ground lead. That may be common sense to most but for novices (like me), I had to figure this out entirely on my own.

Also, make sure you go into the Setup (or similar) menu on your HU and turn the AUX input to "On". The HU wont recognize the iPod until you do. Took me hours to figure that out!

After a couple of days driving around, I am extremely happy with this setup. The sound is well near CD quality, it keeps my iPod charged, and it looks great as the cable runs under my center gear shifter and right up to where I need it on my center console. Highly recommended!

Product Research

Overview: The PAC iC-ALPA allows you to connect select Apple iPods to any Alpine Ai-NET and JVC J-BUS headunits. It has an iPod dock connector on one end and a proprietary plug on the other. Select iPods with a dock connector are compatible; the cable will also power the iPod and charge the battery. This adapter does not allow control of the iPod by the Alpine or JVC headunit, nor does it transfer artist/song text information to the Alpine or JVC display. The iC-ALPA plugs into the CD changer port on the headunit, so it cannot be used in conjunction with a changer. The cable also features a male 3.5mm connector and female RCA jacks for connecting an external audio source other than your iPod to your compatible Alpine or JVC headunit.

iPod Compatibility: The PAC iC-ALPA is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features when connected to a compatible Alpine or JVC headunit (as of July 2010):

Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the aftermarket radio and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to revert to the older software version or wait until an newer software update is available.
