Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works okay. Only allows for one programable function for each button. Directions are very confusing for programming. Word of advise take this to your local stereo installer and pay them to install and program it. Instructions are incorrect and sometimes incompatible with your wiring colors. It will work just have it professionally installed. Cost me $10 to have my local shop do it. Now it's installed and works great in my 2001 Mercedes Eclass.

Pros: Adds functionality for steering wheel controls on aftermarket stereos.

Cons: Expensive Hard to install Limited functionality

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great little product. Programming is detailed, but fairly easy to understand and connect once you spend some time studying the instructions carefully.

Pros: Works great

Cons: A little difficult to program. Had to call and get some help from Crutchfield tech support but they are FANTASTIC and we got it solved in no time.

SWI-CAN2 Interface Module Review

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very worthwhile upgrade to have when installing an aftermarket radio. Programming was quick and easy thanks to Lloyd at Crutchfield tech support. Once programmed, 90% of the original operational features of the steering wheel controls were restored.

Pros: With the PAC SWI-CAN2 programmed for my vehicle and aftermarket stereo, the original convenience of the steering wheel controls have been quickly restored. This appliance restores the safely and convenience of the original functions provided by the steering wheel control buttons drivers expect to find on newer vehicles.

Cons: The manufacturer's programming instructions were not 100% applicable to the installation in my vehicle. The tech support line at Crutchfield was always available to troubleshoot the issues, ask the right questions and provide advice to help complete the successful installation.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a PAC SWI-CAN2 and an SWI-JACK to keep my Mercedes-Benz steering wheel controls functional with an Alpine head unit. Both items are required and they perform exactly as advertised.

I had to place one call for wiring assistance, but the Crutchfield technician was able to answer my question.

Overview: The PAC SWI-CAN2 Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface is an add-on module for use with the PAC SWI-RC steering wheel control interface (541SWIRC, sold separately) when installing a compatible aftermarket radio into select vehicles that feature steering wheel controls. It allows you to keep steering wheel controls that use a dual wire CAN bus to control the factory radio. The SWI-CAN2 interprets and converts steering wheel control data to signals the SWIC adapter can use, allowing you to replace your factory stereo with an aftermarket deck and continue to use your factory steering wheel controls.

Rotary Switch: The SWI-CAN2 interface has a rotary switch that needs to be adjusted to match the vehicle it is being installed in. The rotary switch has settings from 0 to 9.

Connections: The SWI-CAN2 interface comes with a 7" harness. One of eleven-pin connectors of the harness plugs into the SWI-CAN2 while the other eleven-pin connector plugs into the optional steering wheel adapter (which is sold separately). There is also a 6-pin connector that plugs into an optional C2R interface (sold separately) which attaches to the vehicle's factory harness. If you do not use the optional C2R interface you can also hardwire this connection to your vehicle's factory wiring.

Wiring Advisory: You'll usually have to hardwire this adapter into your vehicle's wiring. In most vehicles, the factory radio plug does not have a wire dedicated to the steering wheel audio controls, so splicing & soldering is often required. PAC does provide custom wiring instructions for all confirmed compatible vehicles on their website.
