You'll gain the advanced features of your aftermarket car stereo, while keeping desirable factory functions. Warranty: 1 year.

Features

Overview: The PAC TATO JBL amplifier turn-on interface for Lexus and Toyota CANBUS vehicles is designed to retain the use of the factory JBL amplified audio system when the factory radio is replaced with an aftermarket radio. When installing an aftermarket radio with a 4-channel RCA output, the TATO will retain the factory functions of balancing and fading through the factory JBL amplifier. The TATO is also compatible with Synthesis 5.1 and 7.1 surround systems.

Note: Be sure both the front and rear RCA outputs from the new radio are full range.

Vehicle Compatibility: The TATO is designed to work with select Lexus and Toyota CANBUS vehicles that feature a JBL audio system; please confirm fit with theCrutchfield vehicle selector.

Gain Control: For the best sound quality adjustable gains are provided on the TATO for optimal listening. When initially connecting the TATO to the vehicle's JBL audio system, the max output might not meet that of the factory radio. If the volume is low you can adjust the output using the integrated dip switches on the side of the module. It is recommend to use a 4 volt RMS capable aftermarket radio.

Installation: The interface is installed behind the radio, with plug-and-play audio signal connectivity to the factory JBL audio system. A hardwired constant power, accessory power, ground and dimmer lead connection are also provided.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatible: The PAC TATO can be used in conjunction with the PAC SWI-RC steering wheel control interface (541SWIRC, sold separately).

Had to get this because my 2004 Toyota Sienna came with the factory JBL system. (I couldn't just hook up to the speakers. ) This adapter was a snap to use & made this simpler than any other car audio install I've done. About 20 minutes total.
Pros:
Simple, Fast

This gadget has worked perfectly for me thus far. Maybe a little larger/more cumbersome than I'd like, but I had plenty of room so didn't matter. For what it's worth, I needed the output using a Sony head unit and the car's built in JBL amp (Prius), so the dip switches were appreciated; I went straight to +7 and it sounds entirely adequate.
Pros:
Easy, inexpensive, works as described.
Cons:
None

No big problems with installation or execution

Written By JonS, Denver, CO on Monday, June 30, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in a 2004 Toyota 4Runner along with a Pioneer head unit. After a call to a very helpful tech support guy at Crutchfield, installation went perfectly smoothly. I am no stranger to working with my hands or with electronics, but I have to admit some intimidation heading into the project. This adapter really helped, though the instructions could have been better. The only problem I had - and it was minor - was stuffing all the components into the dashboard in a way that allowed the new head unit to fit correctly. The various parts of this adapter are relatively large (I'm surprised they couldn't be made smaller), and there's only limited room back there. In the end, everything fit, though, and it's working just fine. Make absolutely sure to turn the factory head unit's volume way up and to center the balance and fader controls before pulling the factory unit. That's supposed to avoid the fading in and out and low-volume problems some have reported.
Pros:
Easy installation.
Cons:
Printed instructions that came with the adapter could have been better. It's pretty large and was difficult to fit in behind the head unit.

worked but faded in and out between rear and front speakers when using fading. Also dip switches to increase volume hardly did anything. After trying to get it to work for serveral weeks replaced it with the metra axess jbl adaptor and that worked perfectly first time. maybe I had a bum tato unit i was really rooting for the pac tato but it sucked.

Perfect...almost.

Written By Eric, Kansas City on Wednesday, March 19, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This factory adapter works perfectly. All the connections are solid, everything works as expected. My only complaint is that there were actually two complete harness assemblies included. One that specifically fit my Toyota Sienna's factory plug (which only used 3 out of the 16 pins/connectors in the plug) and another which didn't terminate in a plug at all, just 16 color-coded wires. As it turned out, while I was opening all my packages - stereo, wiring harness adapters, dash kit, steering wheel adapter - the Sienna specific harness got hidden under some other packaging. My own fault. However, the instructions did not reference the Sienna specific adapter. They referenced the other generic adapter with all the wires and simply said to insert connections into slots 6, 7, and 8 in the Sienna plug. It was clearly illustrated which slots to connect to and which color-coded wires went where, so that's what I did. It took a while to figure out how to insert stripped wires into a pin/plug, but I struggled through and with a little electrical tape, got it done. Connections all worked fine, just like they should. Then, after I get everything installed, dash put back together and I'm cleaning up, I come across the Sienna specific adapter. Well THAT would have been a lot easier! So again, mostly my own fault, but the confusion of including unnecessary parts and referencing them in the instructions loses one star from me.

When I pulled this out of the box, I scratched my head. But after looking at the directions and when I removed my old radio, it made sense. Would recommend to have it mostly hooked up before you try to when installing.
Pros:
Made simple to retain everything. Steering wheel controls work great.
Cons:
There is a delay when you change a setting, but not that bad. Should include a little more for steering wheel instructions. Maybe a universal type.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well, this product does pretty much what it says, as long as you follow the installation instructions exactly. There are some minor glitches with the sound fading in and out a bit. It's not significant, but you can hear it occasionally. It is worth it if you want to keep using the OEM amplifier with an after-market head unit. Combined with Crutchfield's outstanding tech support, a really good product! Thanks, Crutchfield!!
Pros:
Keeps factory amplifier functions (volume, balance, fader, etc.)
Cons:
Occasional minor volume fluctuations, bulky

Was easy enough to install, however I was not really satisfied with the power output. The instructions were relatively clear, easily installed in about 45 minutes (including replacing the factory deck). Sound is still good, but would like a little more volume (I did play with the dip switches, but not quite enough volume for my liking).
Pros:
easy to install
Cons:
not really a lot of volume

For 2006 Tacoma Sport

Written By Peter, Orange on Monday, January 06, 2014

I purchased this product along with the new Pioneer stereo I purchased for my 2006 Tacoma Sport with JBL audio. First of all when I purchased the product, they forgot to give me half of the harness so I was trying to attach wires that didn't exist! Then when they gave me the right product I was easily able to install the harness, however my speakers now sound terrible. I am completely dissatisfied with this product and don't recommend it to anyone.
Pros:
Easy Install, kinda.
Cons:
Horrible audio sound.

Excellent adapter for factory JBL system.

Written By JCjr, Indianapolis, IN on Thursday, January 02, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked perfectly with my new Pioneer HU and the factory JBL system in my Toyota Sienna! No issues making all the wiring connections. However, it would've been much nicer and easier for non-professional installers like myself if there was a specific harness for the HU that didn't need splicing and connecting wires - just snapping harnesses together! I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for that option (if there was one ;)) since I don't do installs everyday.
Pros:
Works perfectly with JBL system and makes for better sounding music in the vehicle.
Cons:
As I said in my review (which is not so much a Con), it would've been nicer if there was a specific wiring harness that would just snap in place for the HU.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave this 4 stars, it does as advertised but I think it is expensive for what it is. It allows me to use existing amp and speakers
Pros:
Works great
Cons:
Some splicing was required, that wasn't clear to me at purchase and I thought it was all plug ins. It did make me call Crutchfield support and they were fantastic. So a con for the product equals a pro for Crutchfield :)

I bought this to install a Pioneer AVH4200 in my truck with the JBL system. I read through the instructions even though I felt I didn't need to. Luckily I did because you need to set your level before unplugging the old radio and learn how to easily set the dip switches. A very easy install and worth every dime just to be able to utilize the rest of the system.

The main problem I had and it was no fault of the adaptor was being able to stuff all of the connectors and the adaptor into the dash behind the radio. Toyota doesn't give you much room.
Pros:
Easy to install and set up.
Cons:
none

Junk

Written By Chris, Houston, TX on Saturday, July 13, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked terribly for a few weeks, then just got worse. I installed this to integrate with a 10-speaker JBL system in a Toyota, and the results were awful. The sound quality was quite poor. It sounded like the music was being played inside a can, or with old speakers. Adjusting the pins on the unit and the equalizer on the HU helped a bit, but not much. The factory HU sounded worlds better.

Also, there is a delay when the HU tried to fade speakers and when the factory amp responds. So the navigation, which is supposed to reduce the volume of the music for route instructions, sounds really weird, and sometimes the music gets loud along with the nav voice. Sometimes it wouldn't mute the music at all so you couldn't hear it. Depended on the length of time it was talking.

Then, after about a month, it started going wonky and random times. It would start cutting speakers out randomly, so the music would fade to the back, then to the front, then to the right, obnoxiously. And it started putting static in the front left speakers.

I've had nothing but trouble with it. I'll be pulling it out and just replacing the factory amp and manually connecting some of the speakers to it. It's a shame there isn't a real solution for what is a fantastic factory system. Waste of $.
Pros:
Easy to install
Cons:
Sounds like garbage

OK, does what it is supopsed to but mixing does not seem smooth

Written By JC, Seattle Area, WA on Friday, June 28, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works just fine and does what it's supposed to r/e integrating w/my OEM JBL system. One issue and I'm not sure whether culprit is TATO or Kenwood 990HD deck I installed it with, but when adjusting the mix/position of sound field, the audio transition is choppy and uneven vs. gradual and smooth. This does not prevent you from achieving a great mix however. Also the volume is not optimal (seems output is lower than it should be even with the designated dipswitches engaged).
Pros:
Works and sounds good
Cons:
Mising seems "choppy" and volume output seems low

Having done personal installs for nearly 20 years, this unit made this round the easiest yet. Truly plug & play, factory amps working seamlessly. The only downside is the large control boxes that have to be stashed somewhere.
Pros:

Cons:
Bulky control boxes use up a lot of limited space

PAC TATO Design Problems

Written By SteveB, San Antonio, TX on Monday, March 18, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased the PAC TATO to assist in the installation of a new sound system in a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner with a JBL sound system and ten speakers. TATO caused the speakers to cut out and stay off. After much investigation, it was discovered that two of the TATO outputs were too hot (4.75 volts) for the JBL amplifier, which caused it to shut down. Replaced the TATO but the replacement unit did the exact same thing. The problem could be associated to those vehicles with nine or ten speakers.
Cons:
Two outputs on the TATO overloaded the amplifier and consequently caused the amplifier to shutdown without any sound from the speakers.

2004 Sienna XLE installation

Written By Erik, Maryland on Monday, February 25, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When i bought my Sienna XLE brand new in 2004, I did not get a Navigation because it only came with leather seats. I'm not a leather seat fan so I planned to install an aftermarket. I looked for a navigation to install that will work with JBL during that time but none were available. Recently, an adapter came along, which was PAC Toyota and worked with my JBL system flawlessly.
Pros:
Ease of use
Cons:
Long wires. A lot of wires are not necessary if an adapter for the adapter is bought.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great product, easy to install. My Kenwood BT645U sounds great with the JBL system in the Corolla now. My only complaint is that the volume can't quite crank up as high due to the 2V head, but the manual does state that it recommends 4V. Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone looking into installing an aftermarket deck in their Corolla with JBL system. I don't have steering wheel controls, so I cannot comment on that aspect of it.
Pros:
*Easy to install *Sounds great *Fade/Balance settings still work for all speakers
Cons:
*Price *Needs a 4v deck to really take full advantage

Installed in an '05 Sequoia with nightmare JBL Nav system. Works well, but depending on the head unit you are replacing you may need to wire it differently. On the Pioneer DVD-2300 only plug in the front right and left RCAs and all four channels will play but you will not have fader control. If you plug in all four RCAs, the audio will fade in and out. Had to surf the web to find that out and almost returned it before giving it a try.

Thanks to Crutchfield for the professional service and after sale service. The unit was missing from a badly mangled box on the original shipment. Replacement was received the next day. Thanks to the Cruthcfield crew.
Pros:
Greatly simplifies new installation.
Cons:
None

PAC TATO Wiring Interface

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to install and works great with my new clarion stereo. My only issue was not being able to use the steering wheel audio controls. The plug did not fit....Maybe there is an adapter, but I didn't look into it, as my radio came with a remote control anyway.

My system sounds GREAT. I would not have ordered this item but the site recommended it and so I bought it and again, the proof is in the sound. My new system sounds a lot better than the original system.

PAC TATO Wiring Interface

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a problem in my 04 4Runner with low volume. I ended up having to add line drivers to
the front and rear channels to make the volume equal to what the factory stereo had. Other
than that, the sound is great!

Tight fit, but works

Written By HappyCamper, Montgomery, AL on Tuesday, February 22, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used the TATO harness to install a new head unit into my 05 4Runner Ltd. with
6 Disk RDS system. The TATO unit was easy to connect. I followed the
Crutchfield instructions to the letter and had no problems at all. (I maxed out
my volume on the old unit before shutting down and beginning install; no low
volume problems for me)

It all went together, but I agree with some reviewers that it is a tad big and
cumbersome to install behind the head unit. Not a ton of space back there. That
is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Once installed, HU works perfectly and
install kit fits like OEM (Scoshe). After two weeks, TATO unit still works
perfectly. I've tried, but I can't hear any buzz or noise from the TATO or any
other components. Seems well built.

Long story short, this head unit was installed just two weeks prior in my old
vehicle, which is no longer with us. One call to Crutchfield, and I had a super
deal on what I needed to move it to the Toyota. Most retailers would have said
sorry, but not Crutchfield. That is why I keep coming back. I wish I had a
retailer like this for each of my hobbies.

Good Product

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This went into a 2006 SE 4Runner non-nav JBL/six disk. I was very skeptical
about how the PAC TATO would work and sound after Googling but it was cheaper
than a head unit AND amp install. Man, am I glad I tried it. The unit was
simple to wire (only four connections for me) but a major pain to fit due to the
non-existent room in the head unit cavity of the 4Runner and the size of the
TATO. But, remarkably, it sounds better and plays a tad louder than the stock
JBL system. This is more from the Kenwood HU I installed but the TATO
didn't introduce any noise or other audio anomalies and works as advertised.
Just remember to set the DIP switches as per the manual for your vehicle before
you install it. OIther items from Crutchfield for this install:

Kenwood DNX-6960
Kenwood Sirius Cable
Sirius SCC1 Radio Receiver
Kenwood iPod adapter cable
PAC SWI-JACK (steering wheel control interface that plugs into the TATO)

I didn't give the TATO a 5 star rating because PAC should make the durn housing
smaller.

Simple Wiring Connection

Written By Keith, St Louis, MO on Saturday, June 26, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the PAC Toyota Factory integration adapter to connect my new Kenwood 545 receiver to the factory amps. Wiring was easy, although I studied the diagrams for a while and connected everything up on my kitchen table before moving the receiver with adapter to the car.

One recommendation -- check the maximum volume with the radio connected to the car but not mounted; I had to adjust the gain on the integration adapter after installing the radio, but it was an easy 2 minute job to pull the stereo back out and adjust the dip switches.

Overall, easy installation with good sound.

PAC TATO Wiring Interface

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put the PAC TATO in a 2005 Toyota Sienna. I had no problems with the wiring. In fact this product worked easily with the SWI-Jack from PAC as well. This allows the steering wheel controls to still work with the aftermarket radio. I have had no problems with either of these PAC products and ample room to place them behind my receiver. I only wish the PAC TATO and SWI Jack were a little cheaper. I did save money installing it myself though.

Works great. I have a 2003 toyota 4runner sport with the JBL upgrade. Had it installed with my new head unit and it sounds even better than the old sound system. No problems yet.

PAC TATO Wiring Interface

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product worked (somewhat) for about a week. Produced poor quality sound, and gain adjustments didn't do anything. Failed hard at that point. Put OEM radio back in and system sounds as good as it ever did. Will be switching to a stand-alone amplifier and running wires parallel to the existing wiring harness (bypassing OEM amplifiers). That way I can upgrade the system and still be able to quickly revert to the factory system when I sell the vehicle...

Check your Pre-amp voltage

Written By maragocho, Phoenix, AZ on Sunday, January 10, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Make sure your head unit pre-amp output voltage is AT LEAST 4V. I bought a unit with a 2V preamp voltage and the gain was GREATLY affected. I had to order a different head unit. Luckily Crutchfields customer service is supurb and they swapped the unit out no problem.

Bulky and can't tell the value

Written By Eric, Deerfield, IL on Saturday, March 14, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A lot of plastic to jam into your dash. Had to use plastic tape to keep the large black cord plugged into the unit. Made inserting the receiver a real challenge.

Makes hooking up the stereo easy.

Didn't help the i100 work in the 4Runner. I suppose it is working for the CDA-9886.

Works Great!

Written By NoKz, Los Angeles, CA on Friday, March 06, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this for my 2005 Tundra Doublecab with the JBL upgrade. It took literally 3 minutes to hook it up to the factory harness and aftermarket head unit. My stock speakers sound better with the new head unit and I keep the factory amp performance. The downside is to keep my steering wheel controls, I have to purchase another unit on top of this one for the same price. Lame.
