Overview

Our take on the Pioneer DEH-1300MP

Some people don't need all the bells and whistles. Pioneer built the DEH-1300MP CD receiver for anyone who wants a simple, inexpensive CD receiver, but doesn't want to pay for a bunch of features that'll never get used. You get the same high-performance MOSFET amplifier that Pioneer puts in their top models, and you can tailor the tone with a 3-band equalizer.

Some people don't need all the bells and whistles. You get the same high-performance MOSFET amplifier that Pioneer puts in their top models, and you can tailor the tone with a 3-band equalizer.

Slide in your CDs, including those loaded with MP3 and WMA files, or tune in your favorite radio stations. Superior Pioneer electronics and construction means they'll all sound great. You'll even find an auxiliary input on the front of the stereo in case one of your friends wants to play an iPod® or satellite radio.

If you decide you need some bass, a set of preamp outputs makes it easier to add a powered subwoofer at a later date. You'll also appreciate the handy little remote control that Pioneer includes with this stereo, and so will your passengers.

I am happy with this product.

Like 90% of all stereos/headphones etc these days, this unit artificially pumps up the bass to make it unaturally punchy and 'impactful'. I personally find it distracting but I guess alot of people like the affect. In addition, the midrange (even with e/q'ing) is a bit too cold. Overall I much prefer the more laid back and natural sound of my 2000 tundra's stock old stereo but it didn't have an aux in for my mp3 player so I installed this. Otherwise, this seems like a nice unit.

Good radio if your looking for just a very basic radio. Not good for using with subs and amp. Very small buttons. Not real user friendly. But if all u want 2 do is listen 2 the radio its a good one. I will b sellin mine shortly to spend a few more bucks and get a better one.

Pros: Cheap, easy to use, very basic

Cons: Small buttons. Doesn't work well with amp and subs.

The Radio was easy to install following the steps that were supplied from Crutchfield. The only sticking point was that when installing it in a GMC 1990 Serria pick-up truck, this radio is a very close fit. I could not get it to seat and lock into the cover tabs. It was necessary to trim about three- sixteenth of a inch from the air duct tab, which you can see when you have the radio and trim panel removed. Simply use a pair of diagional side cutters and snip off the plastic lip. This allows the heat sink located at the rear of the radio to have enough clearance to allow the radio to fully seat and lock into the tabs.

Pros: Easy to install, and the sound is simply superb the the factory installed radio, using the stock speakers. Wish I had done it sooner.

Cons: Radio a close fit. Necessary to trip the plastic lip from the air duct. The clock is hard to set, and the red illumination blurs the writing on the button selectors, causing you to have to look very close to find the right button to press for what you want to do.

I bought this radio not to go in a car, but I use it for my backyard music around the pool. I needed four speaker output plus a line out for a subwoofer and a line in for a ipod, and this fit the bill. Its not a fancy radio by any means, but it does a good job powering four speakers around my pool and a sub in the shed where the radio is located. Keep the book handy because its easy to forget how to set channels and other features. Overall, it works perfectly.

Pros: Good sound, nice display. line input.

Cons: Keep the book for accessing features like strongest channel setup and equilizer setting.

I've had this unit for a few months. I bought it because I wanted to listen to my MP3 player and this was a cheap stereo with an auxilliary input. It was easy to install in my Mazda Miata, especially with the kit from Crutchfield. I noticed an immediate improvement over the sound of the base stereo that came with the car. Also, the Pioneer has far better reception and pulls in radion stations I never heard before. On the downside, it took a long time to figure out how it works. The buttons are not intuitive and the manual was little help. In the end, I found one dead button and the auto seek function does not work. Most of the buttons are small and hard to press. I give it a low score for operation.

Pros: Great sound, loud enough to hurt my ears. Excellent radio reception.

Cons: Tiny buttons are hard to push and easy to mistake.

Excellent replacement to stock radio in my '04 Nissan Senta. I have always went with Pioneer and the DEH-1300MP is an awesome reminder why they are my brand of choice. Crutchfield's installation guide made the job easy and smooth. This is a great, inexpensive player.

Pros: Sound quality, Tuner works great! and it has the external plug for media player.

Cons: Only comes with an installation book.....No operators manual...... And the scorche face plate I ordered to go with it needed "modification" and it still doesn't quite hold to the dash correctly, but, is not overly visible or cause issues.

$70 to the door? Wow. Installation was easy using crimp connectors and a tool available cheap from Radio Shack. I'm fairly knowledgable about EQ and audio having a home recording studio for many years. The 3 band EQ here does a great job with the stock speakers. Sound is much better than I had hoped for at this or any other price. The AM tuner is exceptional, I listen to Sports radio a lot and this pulls in stations that my stock reciever wouldn't even locate. Everything works as advertised. $70 to the door? Anybody not giving this straight 5s got a bad unit shipped to them or can't count to 70.....

If it's good quality sound at an affordable price your looking for, without all the bells and whistles that you don't want or need, then this product is what you are looking for....combine this with 4 descent speakers ( I went with 2, 5 and a quarter duals P-52's and 2, 6x9 duals P-69's from Sound Ordnance...Again no bells or whistles, just great sound to suite my need's...and they are also quite affordable...Installation of both the speakers and stereo/cd player was a breeze with the aid of the Crutchfield master sheet which is matched to your specific vehicle, pardon the infringement, So easy a caveman could do it...great Brand name stereo and speakers for well under 200 dollars, can't beat that with a stick...In all I am very pleased with my purchases from your company to date and will most likely be using you for most if not all of my future audio need's and I have no trouble at all with passing your good name around...If you have an older model vehicle such as my 99 grand prix there is no need to listen to sub standard noise from the factory, listen to music again the way it was meant to sound and Clutchfield was the way for me...THANK'S...P.S. tech support was great, they called me after reveiwing my order and found that I needed a couple of accessaries that I did not order at the time of purchase (my fault) for the proper install of the unit, this was easally fixed and I still recieved my order in the 2 day free shipping anywhere in MASS. deal that company offers...

Pros: Sound is fantastic, ease of installation, cost, tech support, shipping VIA U.P.S. all around good experience...

Bought this radio for my Mexico Nissan X-Trail. Since this car is not available in US, Crutchfield did not have an installation kit for it. Bought for Nissan Xterra, hoping for a fit. Face plate was not even close, but electrical connections worked exactly. Overall, the installation went OK, and the performance of the radio is outstanding.

Cons: Instructions are marginally acceptable, but online info is readily available.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Recently purchased this unit for a custom install project in a friend's car. I needed an affordable unit with AUX in capability and this more than fits the bill. It's powering a Boston Acoustics component set up front and a pair of old Alpine 6x9's in the back. Sound quality is great and there's more than enough power. Interface is relatively easy to use. Net-net this unit does exactly what I want it to, without being overly complicated or expensive.

Great sound as usual from Pioneer. Simple install with Crutchfield kit & harness. Usage is not simple however. You have to read or experiment to figure it out. Reception in Southern NJ was poorer than with the factory radio, which was weak to begin with. Stations in the same town went in & out. Probably due to antenna, but as mentioned before, the factory unit was better. If reception is not a problem in you area, this unit is great!

What more can you say about a nice-sounding stereo that does all you need it to do very well, nothing more, and costs so little? Unbelievable value for the money! It's a nice looking unit, with no silly lightshow blinking and flashing away at night. Worst thing I can say about it is the user manual for it is as minimal as one can be. Crutchfield, as usual, supplied all that was needed in technical info and parts to easily install the unit in about an hour.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very pleased with the quality of the product for the price. The controls are somewhat tiny and the Pioneer manual requires a microscope to read it. I guess they are trying to save paper. I copied the pertinent pages and enlarged them. This is critical in having a reference nearby to understand what controls govern what functions. I placed my copy in my glove compartment. The installation was relatively flawless and the radio fit perfectly in my Toyota. Make sure you order the extra wiring harness connections that Crutchfield recommends. Without those connectors, it would be almost impossible to match up all the wiring from the Toyota harness to the Pioneer harness.

I got this as a replacement for my cousin's 1992 BMW 325i. He said the stock radio lost its FM, but it turns out it didn't, but I replaced it anyway. Couldn't be happier about it! I didn't need a mounting kit to install, and soldering the wires was a piece of cake. Does wonders with the stock speakers, and the red lights are a nice touch! Def would recommend!

Great radio at a great price. Installation was a bit tricky at the start as I thought the extra wiring harness I bought would allow for a plug only installation. I did have to marry the wires but it was all color coded and the support team was VERY helpful. My kids have enjoyed listening to CD's and FM radio again. Our old radio had only AM and I listen to sports talk all the time and I think it was making their IQ's lower by the day. Anyway the Pioneer fits in just right and sounds great. Especially for the price.

This is very good for the price I also bought the dash kit and the harness. Very good explanation on how to install it and it was very easy. And this is a 2011 model!

This unit is really great. It fit great in my BMW, and the color matches my interior nicely. I usually hate the look of after market stereos and inside my car this looks perfect. Great feature and great price. Installation was super easy with the help from crutchfeilds installation tools. Save your self some time and buy the optional wire harness. Its allot less headache and fits perfectly. Oh and the shipping was super fast, I live over seas and it reached my APO address in about a week. Thanks.

Great stereo for the price. I bought this stereo for my daughters 2006 Jeep Liberty and decided to install it myself. I found by using Crutchfield's installation guide, Jeep wiring harness and Jeep mounting kit, an extremely easy install. A good Pioneer stereo with lots of nice features

Picked this HU up to put in my 2006 nissan xterra because the stock HU was not cutting it. Crutchfeild said it would fit, and it did but just barely due to the huge metal beam located in the dash right behind where the HU fits in. I had to loosen the fit kit a little bit to get the HU to lock into the sleeve then tighten the fit kit down. Overall the sound quality is great, its loud and it blends in with the car's dash very well. The red lights are subtle and dont light up the car too much.

I picked this over the other 4 equally priced models because it is the only one that does not look like a christmas tree when it is turned on. There are some red lights, but it is all very subtle looking. The sound quality is "ok" for sure. The downside is that the volume button is the source-select button. So if you are not careful, you will change from AUX to tuner when you are trying to adjust volume. Annoying. Same problem with turning it off, you will have to "press and hold" the volume button for a second or 2. Not very safe when you are in an emergency situation. This thing needs an "immediate off" button. There is a "mute" button on the remote of all places, but I don't see why Pioneer thinks the remote is a quicker reach than the button right in front of me. For the money, this is not a bad deal.

Purchased the DEH-1300MP to replace the factory head unit in my '99 Nissan Altima. Have been very pleased with the sound quality and the ease of operation. If you're looking to upgrade the sound system in an older vehicle, but are on a budget or don't need much more than AM/FM/CD, the DEH-1300MP is highly recommended.

needed a radio for the 1989 corvette I am restoring. This company is AMAZING! They got the right product for the look of the car. The radio is awsome and love the red lights to accent the red carpet in the vet. Its modern technology yet it fits perfectly size wise and look wise to what we wanted. price was great, this radio was $20 MORE at my local big box, delivery was fast and free ......LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about the radio and the service from this company...Thanks

    Pioneer DEH-1300MP

BrettL from Fresno, CA on 11/6/2010

Sounds great for the price, but the front aux input broke after 32 days. Took Pioneer about two weeks to get everything repaired and I haven't had a problem since. Hope this was just a freak thing, however, because if I have to take it in again I will not be pleased. However, it still works for now, so I give it four stars. Seems a bit underpowered as the display dims a little when played above 40 out of 60 volume. All in all this is a very good cheap unit and I would recommend it to a friend.

    Disc Playback

Disc Compatibility: The Pioneer DEH-1300MP supports audio playback of CD-Audio, CD-TEXT, CD-R, and CD-RW discs.

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: This unit can play MP3, WMA and WAV files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps, WMA files with a constant bit rate from 48-320 kbps, and WMA files with a variable bit rate from 48-384 kbps are supported. The unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name, plus comments. Up to 8 directories, 99 folders and 999 files per disc are recognized by this unit.

Rough Search: You can search every 10 tracks of a disc.

Installation Angle: Optimum CD playback performance is obtained when the unit is installed at an angle of less than 60-degrees.

    Radio Functions

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

    Aux Connection

Auxiliary Input: The DEH-1300MP is equipped with a front panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable digital audio player. AUX must be turned on in the setup menu in order to be selected as a source.

    Audio Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-1300MP is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the DEH-1300MP are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the DEH-1300MP are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels

EEQ (Easy EQ): The DEH-1300MP is equipped with a 3-band EQ with 6 preset EQ settings: Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom, and EQ Flat. The Custom band can be adjusted as follows:

    • Bass: +/- 12dB @ 100 Hz
    • Mid: +/- 12dB at @ kHz
    • Treble: +/- 12dB @ 10 kHz

Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to High, Low, or Off.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

2.0-Volt Preamp Output: The Pioneer DEH-1300MP features one pair of 2.0 volt preamp outputs (left/right) fixed to its rear chassis.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: This unit features Detachable Face Security. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

LCD Display: The DEH-1300MP features a black background with a one-line, 8-character white LCD display.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the rotary knob turns off audio output, but the clock display remains on. When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the rotary knob turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display be pressing the clock button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

    Remote Control

Remote Control: The DEH-1300MP comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. The attenuator button allows you to quickly lower the volume by about 90% ( function that cannot be performed from the front panel).
