Lousy AM/FM reception from the cheapest Pioneer stero they make.
2005 Acura RSX
We have now owned this stereo for one month. The CD player is fine...however the FM radio reception is worse than the stock Acura Stereo and the AM reception is Much Much worse. Even when driving within 5 miles of the largest AM radio station transmitter in the Midwest (KMOX 1120 AM) radio reception was nearly nonexistent and variable. If you listen to talk radio on AM when traveling.... this tuner is worthless. I first thought the antenna cable must have been dislodged so I removed the radio a second time (not an easy install due to limited access) to check it.... and the cable was firmly in place. The CD player seems to work well however the controls are not intuitive and overly complicated. In addition, the daytime illumination is far too hard to see. It is only acceptable at night. I would not recommend nor buy this stereo again. If we still had the original box I would return it to Crutchfield for an exchange ... however we did not expect any problems and ditched the original shipping container and packaging. So we now have a Pioneer stereo that performs worse on the tuner side than the original factory stereo. Also....the Metra installation Kit #99-7867 supplied was totally unnecessary. The Pioneer fit inside the original factory enclosure without modification. The Metra wiring harness #70-1721 supplied worked very well and was a real time saver.
Pros: -The CD works -The red illumination matches the Acura RSX gauges
Cons: -Lousy FM reception -Unbelievably bad / non existent AM reception -Complicated / confusing controls -Poor daytime illumination that is Much too dim -Only average sound quality at best -Poor minimal instructions on operationCrutchfield response on May 30, 2016 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up.
