Add some color to your ride with the AVH-270BT's touchscreen display.

Bluetooth® adds your media to your drive

Sure, we all know you can make hands-free calls with Bluetooth, but it also gives you quick and easy wireless access to the media on your smartphone. Once you've paired your phone, Pioneer's AVH-270BT DVD receiver will allow you to enjoy music files, streaming music and Internet radio stations, your favorite podcasts, and more. If your smartphone plays it, you can listen to it without having to fumble with aux inputs and cables. And, with most sources, this Pioneer offers touchscreen control over your music too.

If you enjoy your music from other sources, never fear. This receiver covers the bases with CD and DVD playback, an aux input, and iPod® and iPhone® control via USB. And if you want the added attraction of video playback, you can watch DVDs when the parking brake is engaged, or send the video output to optional rear seat screens so your passengers can enjoy their umpteenth viewing of "Frozen" during that long road trip.

Great sound? That's a given with Pioneer

Slap this Pioneer in your dash, and you'll hear the difference in sound quality as soon as you turn the key. The AVH-270BT rocks out with a powerful MOSFET amplifier, and gives you a versatile 5-band equalizer to tame the acoustics in your vehicle. If you're looking for a little more punch, connect an amp or powered sub to the two sets of preamp outputs and kick things up a notch.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Touchscreen Display

LCD Touchscreen: The AVH-270BT features a 6.2" TFT Active Matrix, 16:9 widescreen touchscreen display. The resolution of the display is 800 x 480 (RGB), for a total of 1,152,000 pixels. The touchscreen display allows you to control this unit and a connected component such as an iPod/iPhone or USB mass storage class device. Menus appear on screen for making function choices, audio adjustments, and setting up the system.

    • Favorites: You can register the desired menu items on the AVH-270BT's "Favorites" menu screen. Registering your favorite menu items allows you to quickly jump to the registered menu item by a simple touch on the favorites menu. Up to 12 menu items can be registered as a "Favorite".
    • Color Customization: You can choose between 3 display colors - Red, Blue, or Green.
    • Widescreen Modes: You can choose from the following widescreen modes when playing back video - Full (4:3 picture is enlarged in the horizontal direction only; enabling you to enjoy a 4:3 picture without any omissions), Zoom (4:3 picture is enlarged in the same proportion both vertically and horizontally; ideal for a 16:9 screen), Normal (4:3 picture is displayed as it is).
    • Picture Adjustments: You can store numerous video settings for the head unit's video source and rear-view camera; including brightness (adjusts the black intensity), contrast (adjusts contrast) color (adjusts color saturation), hue (adjust color tone), and Dimmer (adjusts brightness).
    • Dimmer: To prevent the touchscreen display and button illumination from being too bright at night, the display is automatically dimmed when the car's headlights are turned on. The automatic dimmer function only works when the orange/white illumination wire in the wiring harness is connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit.
Note: The Pioneer AVH-270BT offers English, Chinese, French, Portuguese, and Spanish text.

Front-Panel Controls: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons along the left edge of the screen with blue illumination. Controls included Eject, Volume Mute, Source, Display, Previous/Next Track, and Fast Forward/Reverse.

Parking Brake Interlock: This unit has a parking brake interlock system that prohibits viewing of video programming and operating certain controls when the vehicle is in motion. In order to watch video on the in-dash monitor, the vehicle must be stopped with the parking brake engaged. The head unit's light green wire must be connected to your vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. The head unit's touchscreen will display "Attention! Viewing of front seat video source while driving is strictly prohibited", if you try to watch a video when your vehicle is in motion.

2-DIN Chassis: The Pioneer AVH-270BT has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is also an optional double-DIN sleeve (130ADTV133, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to Euro-mount or custom mount the Pioneer head unit in your vehicle. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The AVH-270BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 3.0, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. Audio & Tuner Section

24-Bit/96kHz DAC: For superb quality audio playback from DVDs, CDs, and flash media, the Pioneer AVH-270BT is equipped with a 24-bit/96kHz digital-to-analog converter.

MOSFET50 Internal Amplifier: The Pioneer AVH-270BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power specifications for the AVH-270BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)
Note: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

2V/4CH Preouts + Sub Control: The Pioneer AVH-270BT features two pair of 2.0-volt preouts (Front & Rear/SW). The unit's Rear/SW preouts can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or a non-fading subwoofer output with a low-pass filter, phase adjustment, and output level control.

Crossovers: The AVH-270BT employs high pass and low pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speakers.

    • HPF: The head unit's 12dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
    • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features an18dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.

EEQ (Easy EQ) w/ 5-Band Graphic EQ: There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2. The Custom 1 and Custom 2 EQ modes allow you to manually adjust the level (+/- 12dB) of each band of the head unit's 5-band graphic equalizer (100, 315, 1.25k, 3.15k, & 8k Hz).

Audio Settings: The head unit provides further sound adjustments for your car audio system.

    • Loudness: The Loudness function compensates for deficiencies in the low- and high-frequency ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness to High, Mid, Low, or Off.
    • Bass Boost: You can easily boost the subwoofer bass level by using the Bass Boost function. The Bass Boost feature allows you increase the subwoofer level from 0 to +6 (12dB).
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the unit's FM volume level, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation.

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID AM/FM tuner features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): BSM lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.
    AV Connections

AV Input: The head unit has a rear-panel 3.5mm minijack AV input for connecting an external audio/video device. The rear-panel 3.5mm minijack input also serves as the A/V input for your USB-connected iPod/iPhone (using the proprietary Pioneer cable).

Video Output: The AVH-270BT features a rear-panel composite video output that allows you to connect an external display to the unit. You can play back the same video source which is being played on the head unit. You can select the unit to output a 16:9, Letter-Box or Pan-Scan aspect ratio to match your external display's screen size.Your vehicle's parking brake must be engaged to use this feature.

Rear-View Camera: The AVH-270BT is equipped with a composite video rear-view camera input for the addition of an optional backup camera (130NDBC6, sold separately). The unit features a function that automatically switches to the rear camera image. When the vehicle's transmission is put in reverse, the screen automatically switches to the rear view camera (violet/white wire of the harness must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.0 seconds. Pioneer recommends using a camera with a mirror image (reversed) output. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

    Remote Control

Optional Wireless Remote: The AVH-270BT is compatible with Pioneer's CD-R55 wireless remote control or CD-SR100 steering-wheel mount IR remote (both sold separately).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Can you voice dial with Bluetooth? If so how does it work? Does it use Siri? How is it activated? I don't see anything in the manual pertaining to this question.
    jason  Dec 26, 2015

There aren't any voice-dialing features on this model and it also doesn't support Siri controls with iPhone. You can make an outgoing call by entering the phone number using the head unit's touchscreen keypad, or by finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit and selecting the entry to make the call.

After connecting the emergency brake wire (light green wire) from the radio to the actual emergency foot brake wire to clear out my blue tooth memory, I am now getting the AMP ERROR message every now and then. Every connection is right as this just happened after connecting those two wires. I would assume you connect any device that uses composite video, but keep in mind that the composite ports are on the rear of the deck so you would need to run a video cable to the back and have the other end somewhere accessible.

How can you access the USB and aux ports? I don't see any on the front of the radio only on the rear. If I need them will I have to take the radio out? I would like to charge my phone through USB.
    katrina  Dec 05, 2015
    5 answers

The USB and aux ports are located on the rear of the receiver. It's easier to figure out how to run the wires around your dash to your center console and leave them set up like that permanently.
    torrance  Dec 14, 2015
    A
You have to run the cords before you install the stereo. You cannot plug them in without pulling the stereo out otherwise. We ran ours into the car ashtray when we installed the stereo. Not an ideal set up- no idea why they would make it like that, but you can work around it.

It brings a USB adapter that you plug into the back of the radio is like a 5 feet cable that u can put it like in your glove compartment
    nicholas  Dec 06, 2015

There is no USB port on the front of this radio. Mine came with a USB cable which had be attached to the back of the radio before installation. I ran the cable under the dash and just laid it near my console. It works fine with my phone and iPod. I actually like it better there than having cords plugged right into my radio. The radio I had before this had the plug in the front and I did not like the visible cord going to the radio. The cord was always in the way of something. It may not have the USB in the front but this is one great little radio. I tried two others before I settled on this one. The controls are easy to use compared to others and the sound is great.
    stephen  Dec 06, 2015
    A
The ports are located on the back only. The stereo comes with a very long usb extending cable in the package. You can buy a long stereo extending cable (male at both ends) online or at a large electronics chain store. Both of these can be plugged into the back of the stereo and then snaked around the dashboard to a convenient location. I was told someone at Crutchfield cut a hole in a change drawer underneath the stereo to push the cables through. I found that there is a lot of space behind the dashboard so I routed the cables into my glove compartment (no cutting required). Now I simply put my ipod/iphone in the glove box, plug in the charging cable and go from there. I have full control of the music via the usb cable, use bluetooth to make/recieve calls and the device is charged. I can't text, but I shouldn't be while I drive anyways.

Is there a Maximum Size USB that this unit will recognize? Does it recognize a portable HDD or only a thumb drive?
    mark  Nov 30, 2015
    1 answer
    A
I have read the manual looking for an answer. There does not seem to be anything written about maximum storage size of a usb drive. I would say try the size you want before committing to putting tons of music/videos on it first. If you get an error, then you know the device is too big. I would assume the device can handle a 512 BG memory stick. As of 6 Dec 2015, that is a $300 investment for a memory stick. -- The device MAY handle a portable HDD, but I would think you want an external power source to handle it. Spinning disk HHDs usually have so so results when bounced around and without external power. Safer might be to go with a SSD instead, but still I would run external power.

If you have your phone connected as a bluetooth audio source and you are listening to it (IE for music) then the directions from navigation will be played over the stereo. If you are not actively listening to the phone as an audio source it will not.

can I use the internal amp to hook up my subwoofer directly to the deck without an amp?
    jasonmc  Sep 02, 2015
    3 answers
    A
Yes, but the deck might not produce enough power for you to experience the true worth of your subwoffers unless they are the amplified version. I suggest you from the deck to the amplifier to the subs and make the necessary settings from the deck. The music is much sweeter when you have a balance blend. Trust I have helped you out here.
    clement  Sep 04, 2015
    A
I am sure you care about good quality sound, connecting your subwoofer is not recommended. you will only produce hidious low sound without the boom. AVH270BT has only 15 watt RMS per channel (about). At least the most acceptable set up to get the best sound quality out of this unit without using any amp is a pair of full range 6x9 with a custom box for the rear and a full range front speakers. Depending on the type of vehicle you have, this set up is more ideal than connecting your subwoofer.
    richard  Sep 03, 2015
    A
well it depends on how many watts your subwoofer is that your trying to hook up. an amplifier helps the overall sound quality tremendously. when you hook up an amp to the deck that you have. i have the same one. so you can control how many hz the sub gets. i keep mine on a mild setting. nothing to high or too low.

It's average. I keep the dimmer setting on auto so that I can see at night without being blinded. I haven't found a dimmer setting that allows the brightness to be adjusted in increments. Dimmer setting is either day, night, auto or a time can be set to dim the unit.

    Q
Maximum number of folders/files 300/15,000? What if I have more? All my music in iTunes is organized via artist folders, and then subfolders for each album. I have over 700 artists. Does the iPhone maintain this file folder structure, and if so, will this head unit not find all my music when hooked up via USB?

I could not get the Bluetooth menu to come up. The only way I got it cleared was by pressing the reset button with pin. It's located on the top left beside the eject button. It's a factory reset so it resets everything.
    james  Jun 01, 2015
    A
Yes. You may need to hook up the emergency brake wire from the wiring harness to the emergency brake wire going that originates down by the brake if it wasn't done already. If (when) that is done, the Bluetooth menu will be accessible when (and only when) the emergency brake is on.

It has 2 stereo aux outputs in the back. That is two for the left and two for the right. One set is front only, the other set can be selected as rear or subwoofer. If you set it to subwoofer you can control the output. You should be able to use the front pair for a subwoofer also....hope this helps

Can I watch video from my S4 if I use a micro hdmi to rca converter cord? Or does someone else have a better idea on watching videos from my S4.
    andrew  Feb 17, 2015
    1 answer
    A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: If you can find a converter that will do digital to analog conversion from HDMI to RCA then you would be able to watch video through the A/V inputs on this machine. We do not have such a converter at this time and there is no other way that I'm aware of to watch video on this Pioneer. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Yes, there is a small wired mic included. Not sure how long the cable is but it seems long enough to go up the side post and into the headliner, my preferred location. But I haven't done the install yet-

It does come with an external mic that can be routed anywhere on the dash or headliner. I am not sure if the exact length of the connecting cord, but it should be more than sufficient to reach any spot you would expect to use.

Does this wire into the factory backup camera and show the video while in reverse? Has anyone successfully used this with their factory steering wheel controls?
    jbeebe  Feb 03, 2015
    4 answers
    A
I don't have a reverse camera installed so not sure on #1. I have the unit in a 2005 Silverado and the steering wheel controls work fine using the axxcess GMOS-04 and ASWC adapter kits. Good luck.
    wade  Feb 03, 2015
    A
I installed the Pioneer backup camera so cannot confirm the factory camera works as desired. However, I can confirm that this unit works with a backup camera and does come on when the vehicle is put in reverse. I would expect the factory camera to work fine. Also, the wiring supplied by Crutchfield does support steering wheel controls. Big warning however, the wiring and wiring modules supplied for my Suburban were insanely complicated and the instructions were a cruel joke. Really. A few calls to to Crutchfield support got me through it, but I really can't believe how bad the instructions were for such a complex install.
    michael  Feb 03, 2015
    A
Can't say about the factory camera, suspect it would need an adapter unless the factory uses the standard yellow RCA cable. The steering wheel controls also require an adapter but work perfectly once you plug it in line.
    matthew  Feb 03, 2015
    A
It depends how the factory radio receives the video signal. The input needs to be a rca style input. I would call the support line at crutchfield.

    Q
Does this stereo show the pictures of my albums from the iphone when the album is playing? If so, what is the quality of the picture? how does it display the songlist from an album? Does it have a fast response when the screen is touched when switching from album to album? or song to song? Thanks for any help
    andrew  Jan 02, 2015
    2 answers
    A
When you are plugged in to USB, you get album cover art within about 5 seconds of a track starting. Bluetooth audio gives just the track/album info. In either, switching between songs is about as fast as it is on the phone. No problem with that. It works well for me.
    bennett  Jan 06, 2015
    A
While I haven't had the stereo show pictures of albums, I have had it show a video. The video looks very good, and the picture quality is good. Albums and songlists are shown in list format, and traversing through them is like traversing them through a computer - by folders. The response time of the touch screen is very good - it quickly recognized a touch and goes to the album or song. When using an iPhone or iPod, the artwork is shown on the screen, and looks pretty good. This is the same through bluetooth or USB.
