Our take on the Pioneer AVD-W6200

Pioneer's AVD-W6200 6-1/2" TFT active-matrix LCD monitor features a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, five selectable viewing modes, an anti-glare coated screen, and an auto dimmer control — your rear seat passengers will have a great view!

Pioneer's AVD-W6200 6-1/2" TFT active-matrix LCD monitor features a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, five selectable viewing modes, an anti-glare coated screen, and an auto dimmer control — your rear seat passengers will have a great view!

Two sets of audio/video inputs let you connect multiple outboard sources (such as a video game console or DVD player), while the audio/video outputs make it easy to add a second monitor to your setup. All audio/video connections are made to the extremely compact hideaway box (mounts under your seat), and one cable supplies power, ground, and signal to the monitor.

And no worries about mounting the monitor: the AVD-W6200 includes a convenient mounting bracket that attaches to your front-seat headrest for a painless installation. It adjusts to the proper viewing angle, and provides a quick release mechanism so you can remove the monitor from your car for security. The mounting bracket folds out of the way when not in use.

Features

6.5" Widescreen Monitor: The AVD-W6200 features a 6.5" Widescreen 16:9 TFT Active Matrix LCD Color Display. It has an anti-glare and low-reflection coating for best visibility. The screen has a total of 336,960 pixels (1,440 pixels x 234 pixels), and is compatible with NTSC sources. The monitor features a small 1.375" diameter speaker on the back panel with a front-panel volume control. You can also turn on/off the speaker in the setup menu.

Adjustable Mounting Arm: The monitor can be mounted on the supplied adjustable mounting arm, giving you added flexibility in positioning the monitor. The mounting arm attaches to a dual-shaft adjustable headrest. Since the width between headrest shafts varies for different vehicles, the shaft guides on the mounting arm can be adjusted between 4.75" to 11.625" for best fit. Once the monitor is mounted to the arm, you can tilt and swivel the monitor for best viewing angle.

Hide-Away Unit: This monitor has a small hide-away unit containing the system's inputs and outputs, power connections (harness supplied), and an attached 9-meter (9.9 feet) monitor cable.

Inputs/Outputs: The AVD-W6200 features 2 audio/video inputs (with stereo RCA and composite video jacks) on the hide-away unit, allowing you to switch between two sources such as the AVH-P6500DVD and a VCR or Video game. The Source button, located on the monitor's front panel, lets you choose which source to watch. The audio/video outputs allow you to send the signals from the selected source to another video monitor.

Remote Eye: The front panel of the monitor has a small IR eye to receive signals from a remote control.

Dimmer Function: You can select the brightness level from High, Medium or Low settings. Furthermore, if the Illumination wire is connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit, the display will automatically dim when the headlights are turned on. You can store different brightness/dimmer settings for each source.

Monitor Adjustments: You can make the following picture adjustments to the monitor:

  • Brightness: You can make black appear darker or lighter (-24 to +24).
  • Contrast: You can narrow or widen the gap between black and white (-24 to +24).
  • Color: You can make colors appear lighter or darker (-24 to +24).
  • Hue: You can adjust the red or green of the picture (-24 to +24).

Note: These settings are stored by the source (Video 1/Video 2) and the lighting switch (Car lights on/off)

Location Designation: When using the monitor for the first time, you must set the mounting location to front or rear. If you set the monitor location to "Front", neither the video or setup screen can be viewed while the vehicle is moving. The parking brake must be engaged before video is viewable. If you set the monitor location to "Rear", the video can be viewed while the vehicle is in motion.

Wide Screen Modes: This unit allows you to select one of five methods of viewing a normal (4:3) picture on the 16:9 screen: Full, Just, Cinema, Zoom and Normal. Different settings can be memorized for each video source.
