Enjoy your music and stay on track with Pioneer's AVIC-U310BT navigation receiver. This double-sized receiver sports a CD drive for your favorite discs, whether store-bought or loaded with music files, and features a 4.3" touchscreen for viewing navigation maps and controlling the system.

Easy, accurate navigation
The receiver gives you access to maps of Canada and the entire United States, and its easy-to-read display lets you take in map info with a quick glance. Its text-to-speech function will announce actual street and landmark names to you, so you'll be certain you're on course. You can even detach the navigation screen, take it inside, and plot your course in the comfort of your easy chair.

The SD card slot provides a portal for upgrading and updating your nav information (no music playback). Pioneer's optional CNSD-OP003 upgrade card provides over 12 million points of interest. Got an iPhone®? Pioneer has an app that lets you find a location with your iPhone, then transfer it to the receiver for turn-by-turn directions. Search for "AVIC feeds" in the iTunes app store.

Packed with cool features
Built-in Bluetooth® allows hands-free calling with compatible phones. The USB input input lets you plug in thumb drives loaded with music files and control most iPod® models as well. You'll find your favorite playlists, artists, and albums in a flash with the touchscreen controls.

Sound quality doesn't take a back seat to convenience, as a powerful internal amp, 24-bit digital-to-analog converter, and a 3-band parametric EQ ensure excellent audio performance. Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever (ASR) replicates high-frequencies lost in compression, so digital music files won't sound flat and listless.

System expansion
Add a satellite radio tuner or HD Radio™ tuner for even more variety in your entertainment. Use the two sets of preamp outputs to add external amps into your system.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for the iPod adapter for specific iPod model compatibility.

    Display Features

Illumination Color Adjustment: The color of the button illumination can be set to virtually any color you desire. You can select from 8 preset colors, or choose a continuous scan of the 8 default colors. You can also create a custom color using Pioneer's AVIC Feeds program and load it into the unit using an SD card.

    Navigation

Navigation Module: The navigation module on the AVIC-U310BT is removable and can be used as a map when detached (although it's not a standalone portable GPS unit).

Flash Memory Navigation: Pioneer has taken the entire TeleAtlas database, which previously required two DVDs, and compressed it into a 2 GB internal flash memory. The maps cover the entire United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) and Canada. The database provides over 400 thousand points-of-interest (POIs) in various categories throughout the coverage area. With the addition of an optional POI SD card (item number 130SDOPU03), the POI database increases to over 12 million. You can search for a POI near your current location, near your destination, or near a specific city, or you can spell the POI name.

Positioning Technology: The AVIC-U310BT accurately measures your current location by the Global Positioning System, a network of satellites orbiting the earth to give you time and position information. The accuracy of the GPS information depends upon how good the reception is. The unit has a 20-channel GPS receiver with a magnetic antenna included.

Voice Guidance/Text to Speech: In addition to graphical on-screen directions and maps, the AVIC-U310BT provides voice guidance and turn-by-turn directions. You can choose English, French, or Spanish guidance. Text-to-speech is available in English, announcing the street names along with the turn directions. Note: The TTS file may be on the supplied CD-ROM and must be copied to the SD memory card.

AVIC Feeds: You can create custom Points of Interest (POIs) by using the AVIC Feeds utility program, available on the Pioneer website (pioneerelectronics.com). Once created, you can store the POI on an SD card and upload the information to the unit. Other AVIC Feeds applications include Driving Report and Picture Editor.

    Audio Section

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the AVIC-U310BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the AVIC-U310BT are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N), 91 dBA S/N (reference: 1 watt into 4 ohms)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

3-Band Parametric Equalizer: This unit includes a 3-band parametric EQ with selectable Q factor. You can adjust the low frequency (40Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 160Hz), midrange (200kHz, 500kHz, 1kHz, or 2kHz) and high frequency (3.15kHz, 8kHz, 10kHz, or 12.5kHz) from -12dB to +12dB. The Q factor (slope of the boost or cut) may be selected from 0.35, 0.59, 0.95, or 1.15. Selecting a narrow (steep) Q factor results in frequencies around the center frequency being affected less by the boost or cut than they are with a wide Q factor. This feature is useful for taming frequency response problems caused by the dimensions, materials, and speaker locations of a vehicle.

EQ Presets: There are 6 preset EQ curves: Super Bass, Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Flat, and Custom. The Custom curve allows you to create and store EQ settings in memory. You can create a separate Custom curve for each source.

Adjustable Loudness: You can select one of three different levels of loudness compensation. A Low loudness contour provides +3.5dB boost at 100Hz and +3dB boost at 10kHz. A Mid boost is +10dB at 100Hz and +6.5dB at 10kHz. A High loudness contour is +11dB at both 100Hz and 10kHz.

Note: These Loudness contours use a reference volume level of -30dB.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. There are two available levels of the Sound Retriever effect.

High-Pass Filter: When you don't want sound in the subwoofer frequency range output from the front and rear speakers, you can activate the built-in high-pass filter. You may select a filter frequency of 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 125Hz with a slope of 12dB per octave. The high-pass filter effects the line and speaker level outputs.

Rear/Subwoofer Preouts: In addition to the front preamp outputs, a second pair can be used as rear or subwoofer outputs (switchable). When set to subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading, and may be set for normal or reverse phase. The built-in low-pass filter frequency can be set to 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 125Hz. The level of the subwoofer output can be adjusted between -24 to +6. The low-pass filter has a slope of 18dB per octave.

Bass Boost: The Bass Boost function raises the level of low frequency sounds; select the desired level of bass boost between 0 and 6 (Gain: 0dB to +12dB).

    AM/FM Tuner

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono.

    DVD/CD Playback

Disc Compatibility: The single CD slot is compatible with prerecorded audio CDs, as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs. Recordable discs can contain MP3, WMA, AAC, or WAV files. Discs should be recorded in ISO9660 Level 1 or 2, Romeo, or Joliet. The unit will accept up to 255 folders and 999 files.

Compressed Audio on CD-R/RW: This unit can play the following types of compressed files recorded on a disc:

    • MP3: bit rates of 8 to 320 kbps (CBR), VBR; incompatible with MP3 Pro, MP3i, or m3u
    • WMA: bit rates of 48 to 384 kbps (CBR), VBR; incompatible with Windows Media Audio 9 Professional, Lossless, and Voice
    • AAC: bit rates of 16 to 320 kbps (CBR only), incompatible with Apple Lossless and files encoded with VBR
    • WAV: LPCM and MS ADPCM formats; LPCM sampling rates 16-48 kHz, MS ADPCM sampling rates 22.05 and 44.1 kHz
    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Solution: The AVIC-U310BT is equipped with a built-in Parrot Bluetooth system. You can make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver. When a call is received, the caller ID information appears on screen and you can choose to answer or reject the call. There is also an Auto Answer feature set in the menu. To place a call you can access the on screen number pad, call from call history (dialed, received, and missed), dial a phone book entry, call a POI (if the phone number is in the database), or call home (one your home number is programmed).

Note: Not all Bluetooth-capable phones are compatible, but Parrot compatibility updates will be available periodically.

Microphone: The included microphone has a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. You'll hear the other party through the vehicle's front speakers.

Phone Pairing: Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible cell phones can be registered to this head unit (one connected at a time). If your phone supports the feature, you can transfer your entire phonebook to the head unit at once; up to 400 entries per cellular phone.

GOOG-411: You can dial the free GOOG-411 business phone listing service with one touch.

Echo Cancellation: The receiver offers an Echo Cancellation feature to keep phone calls sounding loud and clear.

    External Device Connection

Auxiliary Input: The unit has a rear panel 3.5mm mini-jack input which can be used with auxiliary audio devices.

USB Input: The AVIC-U310BT has a USB input on the rear panel for playing music files on a USB storage device, such as an iPod, USB thumb drive, or USB-based MP3 player. The unit is compatible with MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV files. The input is USB 2.0 Full Speed, supplies a maximum current of 500 mA, and accepts USB drives with a minimum size of 256 MB.

iPod Compatible: You can directly control your music from the AVIC-U310BT's touch screen with the optional CD-iU50 iPod adapter (item number 130CDIU50) or the iPod dock cable included with your iPod. The cable connects the iPod to the unit via USB (the iPod transfers digital audio signals to the AVIC-U310BT, bypassing the iPod's D/A converter). The Pioneer AVIC-U310BT is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model functions when connected via the optional CD-iU50 iPod adapter cable (as of Dec. 2009):
