Please welcome the AVIC-N2 Pioneer's all-in-one mobile video/navigation receiver. This electronic jack-of-all-trades packs a 6.5" touchscreen monitor, a DVD/CD/MP3 player, and a GPS navigation system in a single DIN-sized receiver chassis you get the best of all three worlds without having to install multiple components. Heck, this incredible receiver will even monitor and display some of your vehicle's performance specifications!
The AVIC-N2's receiver/monitor fits most standard dash openings. The system also includes a hideaway box (which you can mount under a seat), which houses most of the system's inputs and outputs. When you're parked, you can use the 6.5" screen to watch DVDs. If you connect an optional backseat monitor, you'll be able to take advantage of tri-zone capability. You can listen to the radio up front, send DVD signal to the back, and keep the navigation system running!
The AVIC-N2's two map DVDs cover the entire U.S., plus major metropolitan areas in Canada. They're bursting at the seams with highly detailed street maps and over 11 million points of interest, such as restaurants, gas stations, hotels, and more. To navigate, you simply enter your destination (by address, street name, or point of interest), and the system finds the best route for you.
The built-in memory lets you remove the map DVD once your route has been programmed, so you can enjoy CDs and MP3s while you get visual and audio turn-by-turn directions. The system monitors your position using its GPS antenna, internal gyroscope, and the connection you make with your vehicle's speed sensor. It guides you using a combination of on-screen maps and a series of voice prompts that tell you exactly when you need to make turns.
With the AVIC-N2 you also have several system-expansion options at your disposal. Not only can you can add and control a Pioneer CD or DVD changer, you can connect a separate A/V component (a game system or videocassette player) to the audio/video input. Add a compatible XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio tuner, antenna, and subscription for over 120 channels of coast-to-coast music, news, sports, talk, entertainment, and much more. And you can use the Pioneer iPod interface adapter to control your iPod right from the AVIC-N2's touch screen.
And here's a major part of the AVIC-N2's appeal: connect it to a compatible tuner (see our Accessories), and for an extra $3.99 per month with your XM subscription, you can take advantage of XM's premium NavTraffic system. You'll receive continuously updated traffic information in many major metropolitan areas, including traffic accident alerts, road closure info, plus the average speed of traffic on the roads along the route you're navigating. You'll be prepared for traffic snags well in advance, and can adjust your route accordingly. The necessary compatible XM/NavTraffic tuner is sold separately.
You'll also get a Roadside Assistance package. You can store emergency contact information and access it simply by pressing a single button. The map shows you exactly where you are, including latitude and longitude readings. And the receiver comes with an offer for a year's worth of free Roadside Assistance Service.
When you're driving, you can also have the AVIC-N2's screen display several vehicle dynamics specifications. These include acceleration, lateral G-force (which measures how tightly you're taking a turn), speed, angular velocity (how fast you're moving during a turn), and vehicle slope angle. If you want to show off just what your car can do, the AVIC-N2 gives you a great way to do it!
The AVIC-N2 is also brimming with four-way high power, so your music and movie soundtracks will play forcefully. It lets you adjust the sound to fit your vehicle's acoustics with its three-band parametric EQ. And if you really want to drive your speakers and add subwoofers for even more gusto, you can connect amplifiers to the three sets of preamp outputs.
If you need to keep the monitor retracted while you're driving, you can still control the system a ten-character secondary display keeps you in full command, even if the monitor's closed. The AVIC-N2 definitely gives you the best of all possible electronic worlds!
