Jeff Miller

High speed, high performance

High speed, high performance

Designed as a companion piece to the Elite series of A/V receivers, the Pioneer Elite BDP-80FD Blu-ray player makes a high-quality addition to any home theater. Movies, concerts and TV shows on Blu-ray will wow you with their saturated colors and pinpoint detail.

Pioneer's Stream Smoother feature cleans up YouTube® clips and other Internet videos, while optimizing them for larger screens. Advance internal processing loads discs and streaming content quickly, so you're watching your favorite show or movie in no time. You can even scan through rapidly — the "1.5x View Scan" function breezes past boring scenes on Blu-ray discs with voices still understandable, getting you right to the good part. Along with exceptional picture quality, your movies and music will sound great, too.

Focused on sound

True to the company's recording studio roots, Pioneer packed this player with audio capabilities. The BDP-80FD has built-in support for the highest-quality surround sound formats, like Dolby® TrueHD and DTS Master Audio™. It plays Dolby Atmos®-encoded discs — set the HDMI audio output to bitstream when connected to a Atmos-capable receiver.

For music, it includes a 2-channel 192kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter to handle high-resolution discs and lossless FLAC files from a thumb drive. It sports both front and rear USB ports. Connect wirelessly to a compatible networked PC or smartphone via DLNA and play your downloaded tunes. For lower quality music files, the Sound Retriever feature restores harmonics lost in the compression process.

Blast your phone display to the big screen

Phone screens keep growing in size, but some tasks still require "the big picture." Maybe you want to share a video or photo with a group of people. Wirelessly "push" the display to your TV's big screen. Miracast™ technology mirrors the screen of your compatible mobile device, tablet, or computer screen for everyone to see. The BDP-80FD also works with YouTube's "Send to TV" feature. Push a button on your mobile device to send YouTube clips right to your TV.

Easy control with your smartphone or tablet

Download the free iControlAV5 app to your smartphone or tablet for touchscreen control of this player's basic features. The app is available for Apple or Android™. If you have an Elite receiver in the mix, you can control it with the same device.

In order for you to enjoy this new functionality, you will likely be required to update the firmware in your player. These firmware updates will become available for downloading from the Internet. SACD: Super Audio CD use a technology called Direct Stream Digital (DSD) to convert music into a digital signal that can be stored on a disc.
