Overview Details Customer Reviews Category Info Our take on the Pioneer CD-IU51 by Ken Nail Why would I need an iPod® adapter? An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. One, you can scroll through your song titles on your stereo's larger display, instead of squinting down at your iPod. Two, you can route the adapter cable to your glove compartment or center console, so your iPod stays safely out of sight. Three, the iPod adapter keeps your iPod fully charged, so it's ready to rock when you leave your car. And last of all, some adapters bypass your iPod's internal digital-to-analog converter, using your stereo's superior DAC to turn your files back into music. Why worry about carrying your iPod cable with you when you head out to the car? Use this CD-iU51 cable to connect your iPod to your Pioneer car stereo and leave your original iPod USB cable in the house. And you'll enjoy optimal charging speed when your iPod is connected, since this cable will work with newer Pioneer receivers with 1-amp USB outputs. This cable only supports audio playback — it will not transfer video to your receiver. Warranty: 1 year. Hands-on research from the Crutchfield Labs (what are the Labs?) That's about it. The details page for this item say it's 22.5" long - it most definitely is not. 12.5" is more like it. For the price, you would be far better served going to the store and getting a real iPod cable - one that actually reaches somewhere you'd want your iPod to be! Pros: Connects the iPod to the head unit, and transmits the signals like it's supposed to. Thicker wire insulation, cover on iPod connector Cons: Extremely (almost unusably) short. Wouldn't reach from my stereo location to the glove box! Good thing I got a mounting kit with my head unit that has a storage compartment built-in, because that was literally about as far as it would reach. Way to expensive for what you get. Crutchfield response on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 Thanks for your review. Your comment about the length of the cable made us wonder whether something had changed since we first measured it. So we asked our product research team to grab one from our warehouse and measure it again. The sample they examined was indeed 22.5" long, measured from end to end. Pioneer measures it at 20". Apparently they don't include the plugs when they measure. If your head unit did not come with a USB extension cable (as some Pioneer models do) you can use this one. Was this review helpful?
