    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like this unit, has great sound, lots of features, easy to install (with wiring kit) in 99 Wrangler. Drives two front speakers directly and 50W amp for two rear 6x9's. Lots of sound for the small space of a Wrangler. Only dislike are buttons on four quadrants of volume button - see picture. They are in the way of turning volume control - cumbersome.

    so far so good

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

this unit looks good and sounds pretty good too. i just finished installing this head in my wife's '99 miata along with some polk components and i think it sounds pretty dam good. i was worried that i'd need an amp to really drive the polk components, but everything seems to sound pretty good, at least for casual listening. i'm sure it would sound better with an amp but that'll be next xmas.

also, this head first directly into the stock position with no modification and no adapter kit. i had read that the adapter kit for the miata was really cheap. mine actually broke during shipment so i just tried to install the head without an adapter and it worked fine!

    Good value

Written by: Eli from Cotati, CA on January 13, 2009

A refurbished unit was actually purchased for me, however I've previously done some shopping around on my own and this is probably the one I would have bought. Pioneer awalys makes great equipment and I've had especially good luck with anything of theirs that plays discs. Installation was easy with the Crutchfield wiring adapter and no problems fitting it with the mounting brackets in my '98 Camry.

It has a nice set of features, various audio EQ and other adjustments that let it get a bit more bang out of my un-fantastic factory speakers. The "BSM" function that automatically grabs all the strongest radio signals and programs them to the 1-6 presets is really cool, as is the "Local Tuning" that lets you only tune in stations with sufficiently strong signals. If prefer not to listen to a lot of the stuff that's on the radio, but these will be helpful tools when the situation arises.

My only complaint so far is that when using the CD player random feature, it will not skip tracks randomly when you press the next/ff button, instead progressing to the next track in linear order. This is a problem with MP3 discs if you come across a track you want to skip. With regular audio CDs I probably wouldn't be using random so it's not a big deal then, and since my primary use of the stereo is with the AUX input, it's a non-issue then. But, it's a bit frustrating. If there is a way to manually skip tracks randomly I have not found it.

Get your clock setting instructions right here!!!

Written by: Dave from Moses Lake, WA on December 14, 2008

The instructions for setting the clock in the owner's manual are wrong!

Pressing "Function" doesn't bring up clock adjustment.

Clock adjustment is performed in the "Initial Settings" menu. Before setting the clock do the following:

Press and hold [Source], which is the big round button, until unit shuts off.
Press and hold [Source] until clock appears, keep holding until you see the hour flashing. Then use the up-down-left-right buttons to set the clock.

Hope this helps. I got this information from Pioneer's website.

    Excellent for radio listeners

Written by: Dave from Santa Clarita, CA on November 30, 2008

We bought two of these - one for my wife's car and one for my truck. Both of us listen primarily to radio (my wife uses the CD player sometimes) and I listen almost exclusively to AM - talk shows.

The tuner section is superb - we live in a mountainous area where the radio reception is notoriously bad, yet the DEH-2000MP gets strong, clear reception, with little interference noise. This is particularly impressive in my truck, which only has an in-windshield antenna and no mast.

The tuner, CD and amplifier sections on all of the Pioneer CD Recievers appears to be the same, only the features are different with each model. This means that each has the same high quality radio, CD and sound. You only pay more for features you need or want, and not for better sound or reception.

For people like us, who mainly listen to radio, it's great to get the same tuner that is in the top-of-the-line model, but in the least expensive variant.

The DEH-2000MP is perfect for our needs.

P.S. We're going to buy one more for our Explorer.

This product is great. I purchased this product for my wife's Chevy Venture to replace the factory unit. With the help of the provided kits and instructions from Cruthfield the installation was a snap. This unit has a lot features for the price. I would definately recommend this unit. Thanks Crutchfield.

    Pioneer DEH-2000MP reciever

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this reciever knowing that Pioneer makes very very good audio accessories. I have this head unit hooked up to a Profile HA700M amp which is powering 2 10" Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 1 subs. I couldnt have asked for a overall easy to use and better system for my car. This deck is very easy to use and i can even play my WMA/MP3 discs OR plug in my MP3 player to the AUX unit in the front.

Pioneer does it again and i also want to give props to Crutchfield for all their great products and help. 5 starz hands down.

I've always been a fan of Pioneer products and this stereo no different. Great product at a great price. My only complaint is that the controls are a bit cumbersome. The buttons surrounding the main function know are difficult to get at, especially if you have larger fingers and/or hands.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You can't beat the price with this one. The features this thing has is awesome. You can hook up your MP3, or IPod into the AUX Jack in the front of the player, which is great. I replaced my old Kenwood CD player with this Pioneer, and I am NOT disappointed. Installation was a breeze. I was playing music in less than half an hour, and the sound quality is great. Oh, and the remote is a handy feature as well. And all for less than a hundred bucks. WOW!!!

    Worth the Money

Written by: Shawn from Charlotte, NC on April 22, 2008

I bought this for my Saturn Ion and installed it my self. It went in within a few hours, and looks great. Very little modification (to the cars interior) was needed to make it fit. I noticed it had RCA outputs in the back for a sub, which ill probably get later. I love how I can actually take the face plate off and bring it inside so no one steals it from my car. The included remote is also a great thing to have. It sounds way better and is much more tunable than the stock radio. Radio is Crystal clear, So is Ipod through the AUX input. It plays CD's very well and never skips too.
The only thing I dont like is that its difficult to pause, rewind, and fastforward. Also, I wish the remote could make the I pod switch songs and pause. That would be awesome.
This radio is definitely worth the money, expecially if your on a budget. The radio and wiring harness were only $125 total.

Id give it a 4.7 out of 5

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this deck for my RV, and have always been a fan of the Pioneer Supertuner performance. The MP3 jack was the feature that made the decision, along with a very reasonable price. It took an hour to install, and the sound and performance are just what I was looking for. Except now I need to upgrade the speakers....

I was very impressed with this low-budget reciever. I replaced the stock HU in my tacoma and it fits like a glove, looks great, and the sounds is very good for a 100$ unit. MP3 capability and the IPOD jack are a nice bonus for such a cheap unit.

    1997 Mercury Tracer
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the Pioneer DEH-2000MP CD player to replace the factory cassette
stereo in my '97 Mercury Tracer. I didn't want to spend a ton of money and
just wanted something attractive, easy to use, that would match my
interior as best as possible. Overall, I think this unit will fit my needs, but
wish more thought was put into the design. I bought this unit because it
was low-priced, offered the features I wanted (green lit buttons and white
display), and was a reputable brand that I trust. I also purchased this unit
because it has a very clean, uncluttered display with bright-white
illumination, a volume knob (as opposed to volume up and down buttons,
which I can't stand), and clean, simple organization of all the buttons.

The downside to this unit is that there is no illuminated entry point for CD
insertion, so I end up jamming a CD into the face plate trying find the slot
to stick it in. Another downside is the type of display this unit has. The
angle of viewing causes distortion in the display, making it more difficult to
read. This was a poorly thought out in display design. Even being a low-
priced unit, I have seen good brands with better features and functions for
the money. My Mom's aftermarket CD player unit that she purchased
from Crutchfield a few years ago was actually a few bucks less and offers a
much better display consisting of a white lit characters on a blue lit
background, a lit entry point for CD insertion, and more features, like
    a "loud" on/off button.

This Pioneer DEH-2000MP CD player has a clean, simple design which led
me to purchase it and should offer good reliablity for the price, but I can
only give it 3-stars due to the dissapointingly distorted, hard to read
display and lack of a lit CD entry point. It seems cheaper and not as good
a value in comparison to my Mom's.

    Instructions to set clock wrong??

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just a small thing. Everything else about my installations went great. But when it came to setting the clock, the instructions are completely wrong? The process for clock setting must have changed between models and the manuals were never changed. The "source" button not the function, must be used to set the clock, go figure?

    Product Research

Overview: The Pioneer DEH-2000MP is an AM/FM/CD receiver that can also play MP3 and WMA files on disc as well. It has a front panel 3.5mm auxiliary input for portable devices.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the DEH-2000MP are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the DEH-2000MP are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-2000MP is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: This unit can play MP3, WMA and WAV files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps, WMA files with a constant bit rate from 48-320 kbps, and WMA files with a variable bit rate from 48-384 kbps are supported. The unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name, plus comments. Up to 8 directories, 99 folders and 999 files per disc are recognized by this unit.

Compression/BMX: The Compression and BMX digital enhancement functions let you adjust the sound quality of compressed audio file playback. You can set up to two levels of COMP and BMX, or turn each function off.

Rough Search: During MP3/WMA/WAV playback, you can switch between Fast Forward/Reverse method of searching to Rough search. During Rough search, you can skip every 10 tracks of the current disc or folder. This can speed up your search when you have discs or folders loaded with hundreds of files.

EEQ (Easy EQ): The DEH-2000MP is equipped with a 3-band EQ with 6 preset EQ settings: Powerful, Super Bass, Vocal, Natural, Custom, and EQ Flat. The bands can be adjusted as follows:

    • Bass: +/- 13dB at 100 Hz
    • Mid: +/- 12dB at 1 kHz
    • Treble: +/- 12dB at 10 kHz

Auxiliary Input: The DEH-2000MP is equipped with a front panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player, DVD, or VCR. AUX must be turned on in the setup menu in order to be selected as a source.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

LED Display: The DEH-2000MP features a black background with a one-line, 8-character white LED display.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the Source button turns off audio output, but the clock display remains on. When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display be pressing the clock button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

Detachable Face Security: This unit features Detachable Face Security. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (item #142DFC2C) can be purchased for this unit.

Remote Control: The DEH-2000MP comes with a wireless remote control (CXC5719). The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. The attenuator button allows you to quickly lower the volume by about 90%, a function that cannot be performed from the front panel.
