Pioneer puts HD Radio™ right where you want it — built into the tuner of the DEH-33HD CD receiver. You'll enjoy the unparalleled sound quality and extra features that distinguish HD Radio from regular broadcasts. And this stylish receiver covers almost every other base in the digital media ballpark too, with simple controls that can whip through your music files and menus in a flash.

HD Radio sounds better
You'll hear the difference when you tune in a station that's broadcasting HD Radio signals — FM broadcasts approach CD-quality sound, with no static or audio distortion. But that's just part of the story. You'll also have access to the additional programming offered on the extra channels broadcast by HD Radio stations, choices that aren't available to regular radio listeners.

Great versatility
The DEH-33HD also includes auxiliary and USB inputs on its front panel, so you can enjoy your music from a variety of sources. And it's compatible with your iPod and iPhone — just plug them into the USB port for direct control.

Pioneer's famed MOSFET amplifier delivers high-fidelity performance with plenty of "real world" power. You'll experience better sound when you listen to your MP3 and WMA files, as the Advanced Sound Retriever reverses the compression process to add back some of the sonic info that's lost in the digital conversion.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

    Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: This unit features Detachable Face Security. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

White OEL Display: The DEH-33HD features a bright white OEL Display (1-line/10-Character) that can display upper- and lower-case characters. This display makes it easy to read and cycle through song titles, artists, and other texts.

Ever Scroll: When the Ever Scroll feature is set to On, recorded text information scrolls continuously on the display. It will auto-scroll up to 64 characters. Set this feature to Off if you prefer the information to scroll only once.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the Source button turns off audio output, but the clock display remains on. When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the clock button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

    Audio Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-33HD is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the DEH-33HD are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the DEH-33HD are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

3-Way Rotary Commander: The Pioneer DEH-33HD features a 3-Way Rotary Commander for easy control. You can scroll through your music and audio settings with greater ease using the 3-way rotary commander.

Sound Retriever: The Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Sound Retriever effect.

EEQ (Easy EQ): The DEH-33HD is equipped with a 3-band EQ with 6 preset EQ settings: Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom, and EQ Flat. The Custom band can be adjusted as follows:

    • Bass: +/- 6dB at 100 Hz
    • Mid: +/- 6dB at 1 kHz
    • Treble: +/- 6dB at 10 kHz

Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

Dual 2.0-Volt Preamp Outputs: The Pioneer DEH-33HD features two pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs (Front & Rear/SW). The unit's rear preamp output can be configured as a fading rear-channel output or a non-fading subwoofer output with a low-pass filter, phase adjustment, and output level control.

Subwoofer Controls: When the subwoofer output is activated, you can select the frequency of the 18dB/octave low pass filter (50, 63, 80, 100, or 125 Hz), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Switchable Rear Channel/Subwoofer Speaker Output: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

    Radio Functions

HD Radio: The Pioneer DEH-33HD's built-in HD Radio tuner lets you listen to the radio with the same fidelity as your digital music. HD Radio features high quality audio, FM multi-casting, and data services. With HD Radio, your FM stations offer near CD-quality sound, AM stations provide FM-quality sound, and there is crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion. The unit's tuner also supports analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to HDRadio.com to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 3 multicast programs (HD1 to HD3, and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible analog or HD AM/FM stations.

Reception Blending: If a digital broadcast reception condition gets poor, this unit automatically switches to the analog broadcast of the same frequency level. If this function is set to "On", the tuner switches between digital broadcast and analog broadcast automatically. If this function is 'Off', reception will be conducted within an analog broadcast.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest analog or HD stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those analog and HD radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

Name/Track Title List: The Name List feature displays a list of MP3/WMA folders and tracks on a loaded CD or connected USB device, so you can easily access your music. Track Title List will also display the list of track titles on a CD Text disc.

Off Insert/Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback.

Auto Off Eject: When you eject a disc, the unit will automatically power off (unless you switch sources before ejecting the disc).

Installation Angle: Optimum CD playback performance is obtained when the unit is installed at an angle of less than 60-degrees.

    USB/iPod/Aux Connection

Front-Panel USB Input: The unit's front-panel USB type-A input allows you to connect a USB portable audio player or USB flash memory that is USB Mass Storage Class compliant.  Up to 8 directories, 1500 folders, and 15000 files per USB device are recognized by this unit. Excellent all around HD radio, nothing to spectacular about any one feature but the fact that it has them all (HD, iPod, Mp3 CD, Aux and USB) for a great price in a very selective fm radio is amazing.

Pros: Excellent reception (even in back woods Kentucky), HD "links" quickly and fills with analog when needed

Cons: Integration could be better, it's red and white and does not dim at night

Great unit but the unit broke in the first two months. Not to mention the hd radio fades in and out and I live just miles from the station. The hd radio sounds good but there is a "blending feature"that pioneer added to there radio, makes it so when the hd signal is weak it goes automaticlly to standard radio. So the whole time you drive, youre just hearing standard and hd radio mixed and it sounds bad.Other reviewers have said the same thing but I dismissed it because I live close to the radio station I listen to.unit now turns on and off by itself.goodbye poineer,Hello sony!!!!

Bought this stereo to replace the broken stock stereo in my wife's G6. Installation went smooth and the product seems well constructed. My wife is not super tech savy and the stereo is perfect for her. It has all of the functions she wanted: (USB, AUX, HD radio). It is very easy to use and understand, however I will say that the integration with her iphone is not very intuitive and somewhat clunky at times, but it is not really an issue. Overall this is a good product for a good price.

For the value, you cannot beat this product. I was looking for HD radio & front USB output mainly. It was either this unit or the Dual. I chose this one because it came with all the free gear and has RDS. Installed it in about 2 hours. Main problem was getting an old Panasonic unit out without the right tools. I cut my hand and wanted to break the old unit, but I didn't and will probably sell it on Ebay. The new Pioneer unit sounds great. I read about the complaints of it being hard to use. I found it just like all aftermarket units in functionality. So, I was set the clock and turned off demo mode pretty quickly. Still learning about the HD radio. Have not tried the USB yet, but will soon.I will probably look through the manual tonight.

Pros: Value, RDS, HD radio, USB

Cons: A lot of button presses to view the RDS, but what do you expect from a single DIN.

After looking at the instructions for the Acura, I bailed on it and took it to a pro. $75. Main problem - Pioneer is no Apple. The user interface is deplorable. Read the manual several times and experiment with settings until you get a feel for it. It just doesn't make sense. From setting balance to changing iPod functions. The remote is silly unless you want someone in the back seat in control. You need to point it at the thing to work so mounting on console or something is a no go. The main knob is too small and slick and there is no mute button on the unit, just the remote. Red lights and moving lights are never welcome in the drivers view. The HD radio in blend mode constantly switches between the HD and FM bands with a very noticeable gain/volume change when it does.

    Pros: General good sound quality

    Cons: see above.

i like the sound and power, but it is kind of hard to figure out how to use, even after reading the manual. i've had two other pioneer stereos, and this is by far significantly harder to use. i will probably return, and get the hd ready jvc instead.

Pros: hd radio, more power than stock, usb and 3.5 mm inputs

Cons: hard to use, even with manual. took me a bit to figure out the hd radio.,

I am partial to this unit because I love Pioneer units, but this one is great. I put it in my old 97 Powerstroke and it works amazing. I am always afraid of the skipping factor since my truck is older and doesn't ride like newer truck but this unit has not issues with skipping.

Pros: nice clean look, great sound, easy to use

Lot of features! 100x better sound and options than factory radio. I found it easy to install and it has a lot of room for future upgrades. HD is fair, it really depends on the HD content in your area. Cheap USB door on front... kinda ripped that off :(

The receiver sounds good and has enough power for me. It is equal to or better than the stock unit it replaced in my 1999 Nissan Altima. The main reason I swapped out was the fact that the stock unit did not have an aux jack. This unit added that and the usb port as well as an extra compartment to store stuff (the old unit was a double DIN). The Pioneer has HD radio, which I thought I would use and don't. It works well with my Ipod Touch for listening to podcasts through the usb port. That is the main thing I use it for. I would use the aux jack to listen to music because the interface is more difficult to use to find a song or album. It works great for podcasts and playlists. If I used it more, I would probably get to learn it better. The usb port does charge my iPod while I am listening. I tried to use the usb port to listen to music and podcasts on my Android phone. It was very frustrating and I gave up and used the aux port. This unit does not retract the antenna when you are listening to modes other than radio. Because I seldom listen to radio, I installed a separate switch retract the antenna. For what it is, it is a great unit and I would recommend it to someone looking for an inexpensive replacement.

Pros: Great sound USB Port HD Radio Generally easy to use

Cons: Antenna does not retract when you switch from radio mode.

Replaced my OEM AM/FM cassette in the old Ram, so I guess anything is an improvement. But this sounds at least as good as my VW's touch screen. Installation was no-brainer from back in the day when I would need to fabricate everything. Replaced the speakers too, so all went together nice. It is a little difficult to adjust, one dial navigates down through the menu's, but most aftermarket seem to have left simple back in the seventies. HD nice around Philly, most stations have no commercials, USB nice feature to have.

    Pros: good sound and quality

    Cons: complex controls to adjust

The Good. I put this into my daily driver / and not a show car and my concern is for fidelity, clarity and not "booming bass" and on these points, the Pioneer 33HD works great. It can do / read every format I want it to and at a reasonable price. This is the reason I gave it such high marks on most of the attributes.

The only downside is also where I lowballed it ... .

The Bad. UI & Ergo. Only late model BMW drivers can understand such poor UI design. Instead of having buttons dedicated to specific functions, most of the buttons on the dash are multifunction buttons that change based upon what mode the radio is in and whether the radio is "on" or not. If you buy this radio - you will both love the flexibility and sound & hate the maddening buttons and finger twisting you need to get to where you want to go.

Even reading the manual won't solve all your problems (I'm a voracious manual reading freak and my questions weren't answered, I can only imagine the frustration other non-readers will feel) - and to top it off, some questions, such as setting the time, require you to go to the website and watch a video FAQ (I kid you not) to learn how to do it.

Oh and don't think of trying to change any settings while driving ... seriously ... I don't want to be hit by any other 33HD users while on the road :-P

Pros: This head unit has it all, CD/FM/AM/MP3/HD/USB/iOS+App mode. Great sound quality.

    Cons: The UI and ergonomics.

I would revise two things about the installation instructions. First, they tell you to connect the wiring harness to the stereo unit before removing the DIN sleeve, which is just making work for yourself: do it the other way around. Second, they never explicitly state to put the trim ring back on after you take it off. It looks a lot better if you do. :-)

    Pros: USB/aux/iDevice input options

Cons: The display is *really* bright.

Pros: Great sound even from the factory speakers, much better than the factory radio. Much better FM reception. I like being able to use a USB thumb drive. Some minor modifications of the mounting adapter was required to make it fit properly.

Cons: Manual has very small print and is not clearly written. Luckily the colors of the radio wires and the adapter pigtail matched so I didn't have to try to figure out the Pioneer schematic.

I've had several Pioneer in-dash units since the time of cassette tape. My mistake when I recently purchased a non-Pioneer unit when I thought it had newer and superior features. Not only did that unit not meet expectations, the faceplate lights were dying out.

This is my first in-dash unit that has HD radio. FM quality was already good before HD, but I was impressed with how much of an improvement there was in AM quality. I am puzzled that HD reception does not seem stable, even in open areas. I may look into special HD antennas as I am using the factory installed car antenna.

The only downside of this unit is the menu navigation. Not intuitive at all. I mentioned there is no custom equalizer setting, but it may just be that I haven't found it yet. It is not clear what buttons on the faceplate should be used when navigating the menus. I must have kept pressing the wrong buttons as I repeatedly wound up at the menu start.

Pros: HD Radio. USB MP3 capable. Actual button radio station presets.

Cons: Menu navigation confusing and tedious. No custom EQ setting. HD reception fades in and out even in open areas.

This player does the basic job as a tuner and CD player but it is the most annoying car radio I have ever used. There is almost nothing to like about it. The buttons are too small and too dark to even see the buttons at night, much less be able to tell what they do. The volume knob has a hundred settings or something, far more than are audible, requiring multiple rotations of the dial to change the volume. Why???

The menu structure is inscrutable. It is almost impossible to change the balance or fader control without consulting the manual. This is from someone who work with electronics a lot and usually has a good intuitive feel for how things work.

There is an annoying animation on the right side of the dial that is impossible to turn off.

The single most annoying thing though, has to be the automatic strongest station preset tuning feature. It is very easy to select the BSM function by accident when scrolling through the menus and zap all of your presets are changed.

Others have mentioned the long time lag when changing from analog to HD, but it is also annoying that when I use the right arrow to tune up from the final HD subchannel to the next station frequency, the left arrow takes me to the analog station instead of back to the HD subchannel I just left. IN other words, it goes 90.7.1, 90.7.2, 90.7.3, 90.9, 90.7.1.

    Pros: Easy installation

Cons: User interface Tuning speed Lighting Controls

    Great VALUE

Written By Jim, Kalamazoo, MI on Thursday, October 13, 2011

I purchased this unit to replace my OEM 6-disc changer that failed. I was drawn to it for the iPod/iPhone/USB interface with the primary intent to get a nano-usb flash drive and dump my iTunes collection on it for endless hours of my favorite songs. . . mission accomplished! The user interface (controls) are a bit cumbersome, but with some repetition it becomes easier to operate. I immediately noticed an improvement in sound quality even though I kept my stock speakers. **Pioneeer has some useful tutorial videos available on this unit to make using the controls easier to understand. The installation instructions are vague, with the exception of the "existing stereo removal" portion which was very accurate and detailed. I called Crutchfield support and a Tech picked up right away and answered a few of my installation questions. For example, none of the instructions described NOT using some of the existing harness connections because they would not be needed for the new unit-so you just ignore those connections and everything works fine. All of the mounting kit and connection kit parts that were ordered for my specific vehicle made installation smooth, but be prepared to do a few "wire-to-wire" connections that do not simply connect with a harness. Everything about this purchase has met/exceeded my expectations, thanks to Crutchfield!

    Awesome Tuner!

Written By Dan, Gloucester, MA on Friday, September 16, 2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I namely bought this for the HD tuner, USB in and RDS and it has definitely delivered. The tuner is very selective, meaning when I'm next to an FM translator at 101.5 that I pass frequently, I can still hear 101.7, one of my favorite stations that is only 2kw and at least 30 miles away. The digital AM is amazing since I can pick up WBZ-AM all though my 80 mile commute and it sounds like FM. The USB in is awesome too since I can dump a song that I have stuck in my head onto a flash drive, then hop in the car and go. I also have an Olympus 710m Voice Recorder that I can plug directly into the USB port on the radio to listen to class lectures, audio books, or study guides that I have recorded for myself. (This was my excuse to buy the radio in the first place!) The interface takes getting used to, but it makes sense once you do. HD radio is inherently flawed, so you can't blame this radio on that one. The broadcast engineer for the radio station needs to tune their audio so the switch from HD to Analog isn't terrible. This means both the audio itself (many HD stations sound 'brighter') and the timing, since it takes a second for the transmitter to encode the digital signal, so the analog has to be delayed enough so the both signals come out at the same time. So if this is a problem, complain to the radio station, since HD radio isn't that popular yet, the station engineer might not even know there is a problem.

First, I'd like to say the shipping was super fast. Installation was easy, although I did not use the wiring adapter that they sent because I did not use the car's amplifier. I installed this in a 95 Celica and it was very simple using another company's adapter to bypass the amp. Yes this radio is a bit complicated and the instructions are vague, but there are several good videos on youtube that helped a lot. The sound is much better than stock. I replaced the stock speakers with aftermarket ones and this radio makes a big difference. I bought this for the HD radio feature, but I really don't hear any difference in sound, just the fact that a station might have 2 broadcasts on one station. Overall I'm happy with this model, expecially since I took advantage of a great sale that was going on.

I replaced the stock radio with this Pioneer head unit in my 2002 Jeep Wrangler about 2 weeks ago. This is the first Pioneer deck that I have owned and I like it quite a bit. The HD radio is a nice novelty but I don't use it very much. I mainly play music through the iPod usb connection on the front of the deck. The Pioneer controls for the iPod are ok, but I prefer controlling them with the iPod itself. The sound is clean and it has enough power to drive 4 polk audio speakers at speed with a soft top. I think this is an excellent deck for the price. If you aren't going to add multiple amps and don't need bluetooth I'd recommend this deck. The only minor annoyance is that there are 3 graphics on the deck that continually move. I confirmed with Pioneer that they don't represent anything and are just there for looks. The red buttons and white display work just fine for me. They do get a bit washed out in direct sunlight but it's not a concern for me. I am looking to upgrade another car and will be purchasing another Pioneer.

Installation in 2000 Prizm was easy, used the harness sent from Crutchfield and soldered the wires then heat shrink. The radio adapter needed some plastic removed as indicated in the instructions as well as the top trimmed so the car trim would snap in around it.

So far it performs as expected and sounds good with stock speakers. Selecting songs from the USB drive doesn't seem to be alphabetical, but some other random organization. The HD seems to fade in when it locks on. I notice a difference, but it's not significantly better. Reception overall is better than the stock radio.

Far too complicated for intuitive use. Multi function control is not easy to use. I have been installing automotive sound systems for 31 years & am very happy with Pioneer components. Great value. Loaded with features for the money. Easy install with Crutchfield's free antenna adapter, wiring harness, and dash-panel adapter. Sounds great to me, but I had no complaints with the factory unit. User Interface could be better - it is not very intuitive and it is difficult to read button labels - but after a couple of days I have most everything figured out. However, I pity my wife the next time she has to drive my car. Manual is not very well written and printed very small, do your eyes a favor and download the PDF. Totally useless display animations (as far as I can tell) on the right and lower left of the display. Only real complaint I have is that when playing from USB in random mode, hitting the next button skips to the next song in disk order, not a random next song. If I don't feel like listening to a particular album (or artist), I have to skip forward all the way through to the next.

Really minor complaints overall. My only requirements were an AUX input so I can listen to podcasts from my BlackBerry (I was using an FM transmitter with the factory unit) and RDS, which I grew to love in my factory unit, but most receivers don't have. The added bonus of USB input, HD radio, and iPod control make this a steal, in my opinion.

I live in an urban area and the HD radio is awesome. Takes approx. 5 seconds for it to switch from analog at which time you often hear a "skip" in the audio and then all the static vanishes. It's hard to say if the analog radio has more static than my factory unit; I believe I had learned to tune out the static from my analog factory radio. The ipod control function is pretty good. I spent about an hour in the drive way with the manual in my lap, getting to know the ins and outs of this head unit, and a week later, I can navigate the various options relatively easily. I've owned Kenwood, JVC and Pioneer - while I had features and "nit-picks" with each one, I'd be hard pressed to say any one is superior to the other. I'm very pleased with the features, sound and options of this unit. Get the time to know the unit's functions and menus and I don't think you'll regret purchasing this unit. My biggest complaint is that the lights don't dim with the headlights (but as it's night-vision-friendly red I don't find it a real problem).

Suffered with the factory "fleet vehicle" radio in the 2007 Impala for years. Not even RDS. Decided to try this Pioneer, but not mess with the factory speakers because removing seats and trim panels is a pain. Also, wanted single DIN instead of factory double DIN for use in my other vehicles when Impala goes away.

HUGE IMPROVEMENT! The factory sound is improved by about %150, the AM now sounds like FM (when the signal is reasonably strong), the HD is great, and the USB is a real treat - no CD's to fidget with.

Installation was a breeze, including the GM chime adapter, and the DIN adapter assembly with cubby hole looks and fits perfect.

The manual is terrible The Menu is bad No HD indication so you know if you are listining HD or not No way to dim the red buttons or the display at night The Balance and Fader control are done together with one setting and after many tries and trying to read the maual, I am still guessing how to adjust the fader. The manual says somthing about setting the Subwoofer (which I don't have) to either SW or FUL or else you cannot adjust the Fade. Tried both, Turn the knob one way and the number goes up or down until you get to zero then the letters change?????? Example: "If you switch to REAR-SP:SW, you can connect a rear speaker lead directly to a subwoofer without using an auxiliary amp. Initially, REAR-SP is set for rear full-range speaker connection (FUL). 1 Press M.C. to display the setting mode. 2 Turn M.C. to change the output and press to select. REAR-SP-PREOUT 3 Turn M.C. to change the setting. REAR-SP: FUL-SW PREOUT: SW-REA ! Even if you change this setting, there will be no output unless you turn the subwoofer output on (refer to SUBWOOFER1 (subwoofer on/off setting) on this page). ! If you change this setting, subwoofer output in the audio menu will return to the factory settings"

im very pleased with the unit. I installed it myself, I only had to make one call to technical support and they were phenomenal. The Pioneer manual isn't as organized as it might be but after a week or so, I had all of the controls down.

Easy as pie to operate, simple controls. Love the USB drive on the front of the unit and how easy everything is to work. Picks up station great in my area, (most station are at least 60 plus miles away) and this baby pulls them in like they are next door. Music through the USB drive is unbelievable to say the least! It's crisp, clear and you can get a thumb/flash drive and carry all of your music with you. I have a 4gig thumb drive with well over 500 songs loaded at CD quality and still have nearly 1 gig left! I LOVE IT!!!!

    Very Happy

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love my new radio. Sound is great. I bought a memory stick with 8 gigs and only used 3 gigs for 49 albums. The HD radio is the reason I bought it. Thanks to the great guys at Crutchfield Support for walking me thru the procedure to load stations. The owners manual was not real clear or I can't read well. My favorite right wing talk station is AM and is poor quality, but on HD radio is FM digital and clear and clean.

my whole mp3 library on a micro usb drive

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Finally have my whole .mp3 library on a single micro usb drive. Replaced the head unit because the music cd's were skipping but now I don't have to swap disks. The micro drive plugs in the front and just looks like it's part of the unit - barely sticks out. Up / down button navigates folders which are organized the way I want to listen to them.

New speakers, amp, 7-band equalizer, and this head unit sounds really good in a Dodge Magnum. Thanks to Crutchfield support, youtube, installed this myself and learned a lot about car audio on the way. Tried many built-in tunable settings in the head unit combined with the 7-band equalizer and found the right mix.

Pros: RDS - You can see the song title & artist on a very clear large display that scrolls. Visible with sunroof open (bright) and at night.

Cons: Very small buttons and no backlight when it's off making it hard to push the on-button in the dark.

    DEH-33HD Review

Written By Michael R., Tulsa, OK on Monday, June 20, 2011

First, let me say that the DEH-33HD has great sound. The factory default put more sound to my rear speakers than my front speakers which was an easy tweak. Now let's get into the install details. You should add the "Posi-Products Connector Kit" for $6.49 (current price) to your order from Crutchfield. That way you can make solder free connections between the Crutchfield supplied wiring harness and the wiring harness that is inside the DEH-33HD shipping carton. The Crutchfield installation instructions are top notch. I connected my wiring harness, preassembled the Crutchfield dash kit, gave my local aftermarket car stereo shop $49 to pull my old radio and install the DEH-33HD and I was done. Well almost done. I printed out the Pioneer web site owner's manual which is substantially easier to read than the Pioneer furnished manual, went to HDRadio.com to get a list of my local HD stations, went to radio-locator.com to get a list of all of my local radio stations and I was ready for the programming part. You will need first to program the main menu. This wasn't hard but it also wasn't easy. One thing you must do in the main menu is turn the demo menu off and set the clock. I quickly learned that you can't mix AM and FM stations in the same memory bank. I never could get the display scroll to continuously scroll forever but that's no big deal.

Everything I hoped it would be

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had two concerns about buying this system. 1) I never even considered installing a stereo myself until I visited this site and was not sure I would be able to do it. 2) I needed to replace a broken speaker and was not sure if this would have enough power to handle the new speakers I would be getting.

Installation turned out to be so easy I could not believe I almost paid some $130 to install a stereo and two speakers. Using the steps I received with my order I installed the stereo & speakers in about two hours...Could have been quicker but I really took my time.

As for enough power to handle my new Pioneer TS-A6874R speakers, more than enough. Once you play around with the settings, you can get this thing to rock...no amp needed. Only had this thing for two weeks but I am very pleased and would highly recommend.

My only minor complaint, the manual is worthless. You just have to play with it for about a week to figure it out.

    Great unit

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm enjoying this unit as a replacement from the stock in my 2007 Escape. iPod/iPhone input works great, and you CAN play the sound from any music apps you might have (Pandora, MOG, etc.) Wiring and the install is fairly easy with the extras Crutchfield gives you. Sound quality is good and the unit "feels" solid. As others have mentioned, the manual is terribly disorganized, but everything is there (even the instructions on how to set the clock and turn off Demo mode) so just give it a complete read, it's not that long.

The only reason I give it 4 stars is the red lights on the preset buttons that show the numbers are impossible to see during the day and the menu system is a little clunky and takes some getting used to. But now that I know how to use it, it's fine. If you're looking to replace your stock stereo with something that will work with your iPhone, this is a fine choice.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this head unit as there was a 10% sale if I purchased the speakers that I wanted to get anyway so I got this head unit.

So far I'm very pleased with this head unit. Works much better than the OEM head unit on my 2004 Toyota Corolla. Having HD Radio and access to my iPhone 4 music is really nice.

Not giving it a 5 because it could be easier to use. There are different entry points for menus and sometimes menus don't act the same way (depending on what menu you are, if you turn the main dial, it may change a setting or it may change to another setting, very confusing).

Great head unit! With the Crutchfield-provided installation gear, installation
was a breeze in my 2007 Caliber. The sound has punch, and although the manual
is doo doo, the head unit has plenty of features.

CD quality is amazing...orders of magnitude better than my stock HU. I haven't
been able to test out an HD station yet, but regular FM and AM reception are
still slightly better than before. iPod sound is great, especially with the
"sound retriever" function turned on. Also, you don't have to buy the "iPod
adapter" that they advertise to be able to control the iPod, a regular one will
    do the trick.

Because the manual is so awful, there is definitely a learning curve to
controlling this beast. (Pioneer, if you're looking for a new technical writer,
shoot out an email :p) After a couple weeks of using it, I've pretty much got
    the features down.

Great head unit, great price...especially with all the included goodies from
    Crutchfield.
