With its striking, full-color display and array of entertainment options, Pioneer's DEH-P7800MP CD/MP3 player puts just about everything you'd want from a car stereo into one compact package. You can customize the 65,000-color Organic EL display with your own photos and animations, use the built-in Digital Sound Processor to tweak audio performance, or connect an entire audio/video system to the host of inputs and outputs — whatever you want for your car.

Press a button and the motorized faceplate slides down to accept your CD, CD-R, or CD-RW disc — the DEH-P7800MP can even handle discs you've loaded with MP3, WMA, and AAC music files. Radio fans will dig Pioneer's powerful Supertuner IIID AM/FM tuner. It'll pull in your favorite stations with ease, ensuring static-free reception even in crowded urban areas.

Want hands on control? You can adjust 16 different frequency points to fine tune your sound, while the time alignment feature maximizes your system's focus and impact. You can use the rotary control knob on the faceplate to make quick adjustments, or let your passengers control the party with the full-function remote control.

Pioneer's advanced "Auditory User Interface" lets you keep tabs on the stereo without lifting a finger. Four different alert tones tell you what the stereo's doing, making driving safer and adjustments more convenient.

Three sets of high-powered preamp outputs ensure plenty of clean signal for your external amps and subs, while an auxiliary input is on hand for your portable music player. You can add Pioneer's iPod adapter, satellite radio tuner, or CD changer to expand your entertainment options.

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

CD Changer Controls

Full Color OEL Display: The full color OEL (Organic Electro-Luminescent) display features 65,000 colors for incredible brightness, clear readability, wide-angle viewing and full-motion 3D graphics. In addition to the built-in images and graphics, you can download software from a special Pioneer website that will allow you to edit and create your own graphic displays from JPEG, BMP, or PNG images. Because OEL creates its own electro-luminescent light, its brightness is resistant to washing out in sunlight. The display is 256 x 64 pixels.

Entertainment Display Modes: You can choose from the following Entertainment Display Modes:

  • Standard: moving lines and boxes with changing background color
  • Visualizer: In Visualizer mode, you can select one of the following backgrounds: Visualizer 1 (palm trees swaying), Visualizer 2 (bubbles), or Visualizer 3 (moving bars with changing colors), Visualizer 4 (rotating starburst), Visualizer 5 (passing scenery from a vehicle), Visualizer Random (repeating Visualizers 1-5)
  • Level Meter: dual VU meters
  • Spectrum Analyzer: vertical 13-band spectrum analyzer
  • Vehicle Dynamics: Vehicle Dynamics 1 (Battery voltage, Tachometer, and Level gauges), Vehicle Dynamics 2 (analog and digital tachometers with moving pistons in the background), Vehicle Dynamics 3 (analog and digital voltmeters with digital tachometer)
  • Movie: looping 6-second "Space Elevator" movie
  • Clock: clock and calendar graphically displayed
  • Slideshow: rotating slide show with different transitions

Multi-language Display: The screen displays and menus can be displayed in English, French, or Spanish.

Ever Scroll: When Ever Scroll is set to On, CD text or iPod information scrolls continuously in the display. When turned off, the information scrolls only once.

Display Brightness: The display brightness can be adjusted from 0 to 31.

Burr Brown D/A Converter: The DEH-P7800MP uses 24-bit Burr Brown digital-to-analog converters for superb sound.

Auto Dimmer Feature: When the Dimmer Feature is activated, the display will automatically dim when the vehicle's headlights are turned on. The orange/white wire labeled "Illumination" must be connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit in order for the Dimmer Feature to work.

Demo Modes: This unit has a Reverse Demo Mode and a Feature Demo Mode. In Reverse Demo Mode, if you do not perform an operation for a period of 30 seconds, the display begins reversing colors. It continues reversing colors every 10 seconds. When the unit is turned off with the ignition on, the Feature Demo Mode is activated. The Feature Demo Mode displays the unit's different features and capabilities using moving graphics. Both demo modes can be temporarily canceled with a single button push, or turned off in the Initial Settings menu.

Rotary Commander: The large rotary knob on the front panel is a 7-way control that can operate about 90% of the unit's functions and features. The knob can be rotated clockwise and counterclockwise, pressed in, and tilted up, down, left, and right. This feature allows you to easily scroll through files and folders on your MP3/WMA/AAC CDs as well as a connected iPod (via the optional iPod adapter).

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): BSM lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band.

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: This unit can play MP3/WMA/WAV files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps, WMA files with a constant bit rate from 48-320 kbps, and WMA files with a variable bit rate from 48-384 kbps are supported. The unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name, plus comments. Up to 8 directories, 99 folders and 999 files per disc are recognized by this unit.

iTunes AAC Playback: The DEH-P7800MP can play CDs with AAC files ripped using Apple's iTunes Media Player Version 4.8 and earlier. This unit can play AAC files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. AAC files with a transmission rate from 16-320 kbps are supported.

Note: This unit can play "unprotected" AAC files ripped into iTunes, but it cannot play the "DRM-protected" AAC files downloaded from the online iTunes Music Store.

Rear Mounted Auxiliary Input: This unit has a 3.5mm mini jack auxiliary input located on the back of the unit. This AUX 1 input must be turned on in the Initial Settings menu before it can be selected as a source. Once AUX 1 is selected as a source, you can change the source display of the input to any 8 character name. A second auxiliary device can be connected to this unit when an optional adapter is connected to the IP-Bus connector on the rear panel. This auxiliary input (known as AUX 2) must also be turned on, and an 8-character name for the input can be stored in memory. See below for more information on the 2nd Auxiliary Input.

Time Alignment/Seat Position: The receiver has a built-in DSP (digital signal processor) with time alignment for optimum imaging. You can select the Time Alignment mode depending upon the type of vehicle: Sedan, Wagon, Mini-Van, SUV, or Custom. When custom is selected, you can enter the distance from your seat to the front left, front right, rear left, rear right, subwoofer left, and subwoofer right speakers. After the selection is made, the DSP aligns the output of each speaker so the audio reaches your ears at precisely the correct time. For best stereo image, you can also select a seat position of front left, front right, front or all.

EEQ (Easy EQ): The DEH-P7800MP is equipped with a 16-band graphic EQ with the following center frequencies: 20Hz, 31.5Hz, 50Hz, 80Hz, 125Hz, 200Hz, 315Hz, 500Hz, 800Hz, 1.25kHz, 2kHz, 3.15kHz, 5kHz, 8kHz, 12.5kHz, and 20kHz. In addition, there are 5 preset EQ settings: Powerful, Super Bass, Vocal, Natural, and Flat, plus Custom 1 and Custom 2. You can adjust the equalizer curve of the Powerful, Super Bass, Vocal, and Natural presets between -6 and +6. With Custom 1 or Custom 2, you can independently adjust the level of each band from -6 to +6. The Flat preset cannot be adjusted.

Loudness Levels: Loudness compensates for deficiencies in the low and high frequencies at low volumes. When activated, Loudness applies +10dB @100Hz and +6.5dB at 10kHz.

BBE: BBE can reproduce sound very close to the original through phase compensation, high-frequency delay, and amplitude deviation during playback. It makes your music sound like a live performance. You can set the level of BBE from -4 to +4.

Compression and BMX Functions: Using the "COMP" (compression) and "BMX" (Bit Media eXpander) functions, you can adjust the playback quality of the CD player. Each function may be set to one of two levels or off. The "COMP" function compresses the audio signal to eliminate distortion caused by the imbalances between the loudest and softest sounds when played at high volumes. The "BMX" function controls sound reverberations to give playback a fuller sound.

High Pass Filter: If you do not want low frequency sounds to play from the speakers, you can independently turn on the High Pass Filters for the front and rear outputs. The HPF has a selectable cutoff frequency (50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz,100Hz, 125Hz, 160Hz, or 200 Hz) and slope (-6dB, -12dB, or Pass). Only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output through the speakers. You can also vary the output of the front and rear channels independently from 0 to -24.

Subwoofer Output: The unit has a dual RCA subwoofer output which can be turned on or off. When turned on, this output has a low-pass filter with selectable cutoff frequencies (50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz,100Hz, 125Hz, 160Hz, or 200 Hz), phase adjustment (normal/reverse), output level (+6 to -24), and slope (-6dB, -12dB, or -18dB).

Rough Search: You can switch the search method between fast forward/reverse and "Rough" in which the unit searches every 10 tracks. If there are less than 10 tracks on the disc, the unit will jump to the last track.

AGC (Automatic Gain Control): The CD mechanism has a built-in Automatic Gain Control, which adjusts 7 different settings each time a CD is inserted to prevent the disc from skipping.

Auditory User Interface (AUI): Confirmation tones alert you to what the receiver is doing without you having to look at the display. The AUI has 4 different sounds (for ON, function, select, and, when used with the Bluetooth wireless technology, a ring alert.) You can adjust the volume of the AUI from 0 to 12.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

Disc Naming: You can use the disc title input feature to store up to 48 CD titles in the unit's memory. Each title can be up to 10 characters long.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the Source button turns off audio output, but the clock display remains on. When the Clock Display has not been turned on, pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely. The unit's button illumination is only on when the unit is on.

Detachable Face Security: This unit features a motorized "flap-face" front panel with Detachable Face Security. If the front panel is not detached from the head unit within five seconds of turning off the ignition, a warning tone will sound, and the face will fold down. The warning tone can be turned off in the menu, if desired. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired. A hard plastic face case is included with this unit.

Muting/Attenuation: Sound from this unit is muted or attenuated automatically when the signal from a device with the mute function is received. Sound returns to normal when the mute/attenuation signal is canceled. The muting feature must be turned on in the initial settings. You can switch between muting or attenuation, whichever you desire. Note: The yellow/black wire in the wiring harness must be connected to the cell phone or other automatic muting device.

Wireless Remote Control: The DEH-P7800MP comes with a wireless remote control (CXC5717). The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. In addition, the numeric keypad on the remote allows you to select tracks and radio presets directly. The attenuator button allows you to quickly lower the volume by about 90%, a function that cannot be performed from the front panel.

Optional Wired Remote Control: The head unit has a 3.5mm minijack on the back panel for connecting an optional wired remote control, such as the CD-MR70 or CD-MR80 (130CDMR70 or 130CDMR80). You can also plug in the PAC SWI-PS adapter (127SWIPS) to interface the factory steering wheel or rear seat radio controls of many vehicles to this receiver. Please consult "What Fits My Car" to find out if your vehicle is compatible with the adapter.

Satellite Radio Ready: You can connect and control an external satellite radio tuner. The head unit is compatible with the GEX-P920XM (130P920XM) Pioneer XM receiver. In addition, it is compatible with the XMDirect XM Radio receiver when used with the XMDirect Pioneer Smart Digital Adapter (700XMPIONE). For Sirius, you can connect the Pioneer Sirius Satellite Radio tuner (130SIRPNR2). A subscription to XM or Sirius, plus the proper antenna is required in order to receive satellite radio programming. The satellite radio tuners connect via the IP-Bus connector on the back of the head unit.

iPod Adapter Ready: The Pioneer CD-IB100ii iPod adapter (130IB100ii) allows you to play and control your iPod, iPod mini, or iPod nano, and view album, artist, and other information on the head unit's display. The adapter allows you to perform multiple search functions, including playlist, genre, artist, and album searches. You can switch between the following displays: Album title, Song Title, Artist Name, Artist Name with Artist Title, Song Title with Artist Name, Song Title with Album Title, and a Simple display. While connected, the iPod adapter also charges the iPod's battery. The adapter works with all "Dock Connector"-equipped iPods, and connects to the head unit via the IP-Bus connector.

2nd Auxiliary Input Ready: In addition to the rear mini jack Aux input (AUX 1), you can connect a second auxiliary component by connecting an IP-Bus/RCA connector. The CD-RB10 lets you connect one auxiliary component, and the CD-RB20 lets you connect an auxiliary component and a CD changer via the IP-Bus connector on the back of the head unit. The 8-character name of the connected auxiliary component can be entered into memory, and will appear as you cycle through the sources.

TV Tuner/DVD Control: You can connect and control with this unit an external TV tuner, or a single or multi-disc DVD player, through the IP-Bus connection. It is compatible with the Pioneer GEX-P5700TV TV Tuner (130P5700TV), the SDV-P7 single disc DVD player, and the XDV-P90 6-disc DVD/CD changer.

CD Changer Controls

IP-Bus System Controls: The DEH-P7800MP is equipped with IP-Bus control, which allows you to connect and control other Pioneer components. You can add a multi-disc CD changer, a satellite radio receiver, an auxiliary input adapter, or an iPod adapter.

CD Changer Controls: You can add an IP-Bus-compatible 6-disc or 12-disc Pioneer CD changer, and control it from the head unit. It is also compatible with Pioneer's 50-disc changer.

  • ITS (Instant Track Selection) Programming: The ITS function can be used to program automatic playback of up to 99 tracks per disc for up to 100 discs. With changers sold before the CDX-P1250 and CDX-P650, up to 24 tracks can be stored in the playlist.
  • Disc Title Memory: Titles of up to 8 characters each can be entered into memory for up to 100 discs.
  • Disc Title List: This feature allows you to display disc titles that you have entered. From the list, you can select a disc for playback.
  • Direct Disc Selection: You can directly select discs 1-6 by pressing the corresponding button number on the front panel or remote. Discs 7-12 can be selected by pressing and holding the corresponding button number, such as button 1 for disc 7, etc.

CD Text Display: When used with a CD Text-compatible Pioneer CD changer, this unit will display the titles of CD Text encoded discs that are played in the changer. When playing a CD Text disc on a CD Text compatible changer, you cannot switch to the Disc Title Input mode. CD Text disc titles, artist names and track titles longer than 8 characters may be scrolled to reveal the entire string of text.

CD Sound Quality Adjustment: Using the "COMP" (compression) and "DBE" (dynamic bass emphasis) functions, you can adjust the playback quality of the changer. Each function may be set to one of two levels or off. The "COMP" function compresses the audio signal to eliminate distortions caused by the imbalances between the loudest and softest sounds when played at high volumes. The "DBE" function boosts bass frequencies to give your music a more full sound.

Note: For these functions to work, they must be supported by the Pioneer CD changer.

Great Sound and Looks

Written By john, Greenille Texas on Monday, July 21, 2008

Pro's It has a lot of nice feature ,the 16 band E.Q is Great for ajusting the sound .It has a great Display (BUT) It will play everthing MP3 ,ACC and more .Sound shapeing is great from the Time alignment to the E.Q.
Cons-They could have made the Display Larger and that one little bitty knob that controls everting should have been bigger ,Or not have it controlling everthing and add a few more buttons,That was my biggest complaint that the little joystick Volume control is just to small or my hands is just to big.It hard to set things because you accidently bump it the wrong way and you have to go back and find where you were.Other then that it looks good but it would have looked so much better if thr display was 352x128

Not Enough Bang for the Buck

Written By Glenn, Northfield, NJ on Sunday, June 03, 2007

I purchased this to replace my DEH-7700 and thought it would blow it away. Needless to say, it didn't or I'm just too used to the 7700. I love the color display, but that's not enough to sway me over. I love the ASL feature on my current unit to compensate for road noise, the separate bass & treble controls along with the 3 loudness settings, all missing from this unit. After plugging it in the sound was just okay; I could never get it adjusted to the way I wanted and had been listening to with my Infinity powered sub and Pioneer 6x8's. The instruction manual was no help at all in explaining all the many features, in fact, it was a hindrance. Being frustrated by it, I gave it to my son, and he seems pleased with it. I guess it's just personal taste, but I love my DEH-7700 so I'll just stick with that for now.

Great Head Unit

Written By James, Milton, NH on Sunday, May 27, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this head unit a few weeks ago as the first piece in my new audio system setup, and I must say I have not been disappointed. After my old unit bit the dust, I was looking for a upper-end one to drive a new system, and the 7800 gets the job done.

The sheer amount of tunable features on this are amazing. From the time-delay, to the 12 Bands and 8 preset EQs it's great. You can even tune the ones that came with the system if you like for added customization. The High Pass Filters work well too, especially with my lower grade speakers. There's so much power that this thing puts out to just the speakers it's made them so much louder.

The entertainment features are fun, and make the head unit look real sharp. The design is great, as almost everything is controlled with the knob, giving it a much cleaner look and gives more room for the OEL display. I enjoy the Tachometer that you can setup since my automatic does not have one.

Overall I've been very impressed with the setup and capability of this stereo. It's a great centerpiece to build a system off of.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There are so many different sound variations I could not be more pleased. The supertuner IIID is awsome at picking up even the faintest signals from far away. Plenty of power for my unamped speakers and the display never gets boring.

Very nice product.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent product. Plenty of power and highly customizable to the vehicle's interior acoustics. The display is nice and bright and easy to read. The display does have a little bit of a short coming in bright sunlight with glare, but that's a small annoyance compared with all the features you get. At first all the menus and choices can be a little overwhelming and confusing, but the more you use it the easier it becomes. This is a nice, clean looking, clean sounding unit, and it looks great in the dash! This is my first Pioneer unit after having peviusly owned Clarion and Kenwood. The feel and the quality of the Pioneer is much better. The FM tuner is great! I can pull in more stations with this unit than with the others. I don't get the annoying "picket-fencing" effect on distant FM stations either becuase the tuner is so strong. The CD section is top shelf also, very clean and clear. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who wants a lot of bang for their buck.

Great Again

Written By Carl, Jacksonville,FL on Friday, April 06, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield again is tops, recieved the unit today, installed it(used the wiring and bracket from the DEH-P4800,unpluged the old reciver and slipped in the new one, total time, about 25-30mins the only thing(not bad)is the motorized detachable face plate,it would have been nice if it was the flipout kind like the other past units, but the reciver is just cool, have a pioneer 5.1 audio sound processer,my vehicle is a 2005 Dodge Caravan, and the mobile DVD player connected to it makes it sound like a high end system. I removed all the side panels and spayed noise subpression foam. The reciver is nice for the price, pioneer is a winner.

Great system

Written By Mike, Fort Knox, KY on Tuesday, February 20, 2007

I upgraded my old Pioneer system to the 7800 and I couldn't be happier with my decision. With my old unit, I had to run my Sirius and iPod through FM modulators and the sound quality suffered, not to mention the pain of switching stations everytime I dove through a different city. Now I can control both my Sirius and iPod through my head unit. Also the sound coming through my speakers is so much cleaner and my sub is hitting notes it has never been able to hit before. I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking for the best sound.

Pioneer Quality

Written By Shannon, Atlanta, GA on Tuesday, January 30, 2007

I just installed this unit into my BMW and could not be happier with the sound. I initially had a Blaupunkt installed to match the car's amber lighting, but it sounded horrible. The Pioneer has a greater ability to craft the sound spectrum to your own preference, and the electronics are much higher quality than other products in the same price range. You have the option of selecting different entertainment screens, some of which can be customized to even match your dash lighting. The only drawback is I'd rather have red or amber key buttons, but I compromised and went with sound quality over trying to match. Otherwise, the unit also blends very cleanly with the BMW interior.

This Radio Is the Best.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio for my 2006 Ford Explorer. I just installed it and it is nice. The features on this radio are great. I like the fact you can adjust the radio for your specific vehicle (SUV, MINE VAN, SEDAN, ETC). I think this radio is great. Everyone I know likes this radio so much that they are thinking about getting one for them self’s.

Great Buy, Hand Down

Written By Steve, Ontario, Canada on Wednesday, January 10, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

To start, i want to first say that Crutchfield's service is second to none. They are by far the easiest, most friendly company to work with that i have personally ever dealt with. It doesnt get any better than lifetime tech support for your gear.

Now for this headunit, its simply astonishing. The SQ definately tops my previous DEH-P7600MP in every category and my 2 Alpine Type S 10's sound are producing lows ive never heard before. The 5V Pre-Outs make a difference over the 2V on my 7600MP wihtout a doubt. The display is simply astonishing as well, although i am more of a SQ guy than one who boasts over a fancy display, so im saying this because i really do enjoy the display. My favourite feature is the RPM of your vehicle displayed right on the screen with a choice of three different modes and yes you can calibrate it so that it is dead on accurate. The sound is incredibly customizable from LPF (Low Pass Frequencies) and HPF (High Pass Frequencies) adjustment all at your fingertips. It is also handy because you can tell this unit where you are in the vehicle and it adjusts the sound accordingly. My system is much more well rounded now and i would definately reccomend this unit to anyone. You wont find a better one for the price, or at all for that matter.

Thanks Crutchfield,

A great unit!!!!!!!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this unit installed since Aug. It took me a couple weeks to figure everything out, but once I did, WOW! This unit sounds great. I highly recomend it. I'm using it with a "Punch P450.4" amp and Polk Components up fron and Polk 950's in the back. All music is Crystal clear, Loud or soft, and tons of Bass

Pioneer DEH-P7800MP

Written By Dave, Ukiah, CA on Tuesday, December 12, 2006

I got this unit for the features (AAC playback, three RCA outs, etc.) and I thought the OEL display was just a ridiculous luxury I'd rather not spend on. Well, I loved the deck from the get-go. Good sound, good customization features, EXCELLENT MP3/AAC navigation, good remote, etc. The fancy screen still felt a bit over the top for a while. Now though, I get in other people's cars and wince at the old school displays. I don't use the animated visuals very much but the rich display of song information and the like is now welcomed. My two-year-old daughter loves to see herself on the stereo when she gets in daddy's car too!

The installation was very easy. The sound quality instantly increased on the stock speakers I have now. The amount of settings you can adjust to make your music sound how you want it is amayzing. The "Entertainment" stuff is really cool to see instead of just seeing a clock like on the stock radio. I would recommend to anyone that is picky about how your music sounds, because you can customize with front and rear filters and it has a 16band equalizer.

Good overall product, some minor issues!

Written By Jerret, Folsom, CA on Friday, December 08, 2006

Fairly easy install with included harness and adapter. Used mini-jack aux output to run hidden Mp3 connection to the glove box. Works and sounds great with the direct connection instead of FM mod. Screen is excellent and the Tach feature is pretty cool. Software for creating your own videos/backgrounds is pretty horrible. Pre-outs really make the most of the 4 way amp to the speakers. Sounds great and the audio adjustments are excellent. Huge improvement. MAJOR FLAW: The face of the deck, when attached, is loose and shifts up and down when using the rotary dial for adjustments. Feels cheap and makes me nervous that it will eventually break/lose connection. Time will tell. Better off using the remote. Rotary adjustments are awkward. Overall great pioneer product as usual, but I would not purchase this deck if given a second chance.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I first installed the 6800 and then sent it back for this unit. The 6800 was too bright and would not show the artist and song title at the same time when playing an ipod. This unit is much less bright and because the track time is fixed on the screen it gives more options for displaying information (including artist/title). I have installed with this unit the CD-iB100ii. The ipod interface on it is just amazing. There are 3 lines displayed while browing and its really easy to get around. I do not find the browsing speed to be an issue at all. If you try browsing really fast, the display will take a second to catch up but in normal use it is fine. I was also impressed with how customizable the display is. It has a front and back to the visualizers so you can have a background with another image fading in and out with the music on top. You can also download video files and images using a CD-R disc. I also like how this unit does not have any buttons lit up that show the perimeter of the unit so at night it really blends into the dash, almost looks like it is floating. There are a ton of audio features on this deck. You can even tell it where you are sitting in the car and how far you are from each speaker. This deck has great sound, looks and functionality. It is the nicest single din cd player i have personally seen.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this to replace another Pioneer that was on third OEL Face plate as they burn up really quick so be prepared for that, i must say love the graphic quality of this unit as really cool and should last longer but must say the sound of this unit not that great as music sound like it trapped in a soup can but that normal for radio in this price range but does sound better than the stock headunit in cars,if your into high end stereo equipment this will not be for you by any means ,other people might love the sound of this unit but very picky here so was not for me ,i will sale this one soon and buy something else the quality of the sound much more important than looks.

Awesome head unit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was installed in a 2007 G6 using the Metra GM adapter, which did a seamless job of retaining the GM Driver Info Center functionality (and which Crutchfield offers at a GREAT price when you buy the head unit).

The best part about the 7800 is the extensive EQ. Even without replacing the factory speakers, the 16 bands allow you to tweak the frequency response to perfection. With the original GM head unit, the mid-bass was artificially boosted (presumably to impress the "typical consumer" who mistakes that for a "big bass" sound) but with the Pioneer head unit, the speakers now sound superb. I was able to cut out the mid-bass boominess, accentuate the deep bass (and I mean DEEP bass), and also correct for a harsh peak around 3khz. To further enhance the bottom end, I bought a sub from Crutchfield, but now I'm not sure it was even necessary -- I'm getting great low bass down to about 35hz from the factory speakers with the sub turned off, again thanks to the Pioneer EQ.

That having been said, the Pioneer head unit does a great job integrating the sub into the system thanks to its multiple options for crossover frequency, slope, phase, and sub volume -- so if you want that extra "thump," you can dial in just the right amount.

The time adjustment feature also has a surprisingly big impact -- tightens up the sound nicely for the specified seating location, but you can easily override it when multiple people are in the car so everyone gets a good overall sound.

I could go on and on. Bottom line: if getting custom-tailored, top-notch sound quality is your chief objective, this is the head unit for you.

Great Value

This unit is great. It Offers everything you need to fine tune your stereo. I am running two 6x9 and two 6.5 with the power on this head unit. Also one 10" sub with an amp. It sounds awesome for what little money I have invested in my system. The display is incredible and you can download your own pictures into it by going to Pioneers website and downloading a program. The program also lets you download MP3 folders so that the unit will display a picture of the album cover, the band name, and the song title. You cannot go wrong with this unit. For the price you will not find a stereo with more options. I am very happy with my purchase.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, I would like to say that I am a soldier stationed in Germany. I was kind of skeptical about purchasing this product thinking that it would take at least 3 to 4 weeks for shipment but I received my radio in 8 days!!I fell in love with this radio while I was in the field during the month of August 06. After alot of comparing and reviews, I finally decided to purchase this head-unit. I am very happy with this product as it seems that everytime I take a ride I find some new feature that I hadnt noticed before. With Its sexy colors and astonishing graphics this unit is well worth the money. The only thing that that took my cheese smile to a grin was the fact that the my tv's(3 in total) could not hook directly up to the unit(the dvd accessory sold seperatly) which needless to say ticked me off.I have 2 a 1200 watt amp hooked in the back of the unit as well as a 250 watt amp(for the door speakers) and the musik sounds brilliant. You can even download new graphics and put pics of whoever on the display which is outstanding. I would recommend this to anyone who is serious about sound and beauty.

just beautiful!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this head unit.. I bought it from Crutchfield but i couldnt instal it myself. the instructions were to hard i didnt want to break my 04 civic. so i took it to a stereo store and paid to have them instal it. even with the extra to instal it was still cheaper than buying from the local store! it is a lil hard to see when its sunny especially with the moonroof down. The best feature is by far MP3! i can fit 5 cd albums on to one cd! it is so easy to scroll through aswell. also if your getting XM it shows 2 lines of text instead of just one like other head units. One thing i dont like is that if you skip toanother song you have to be carefull not to push the knob in otherwise it would take you to settings.. kinda annoying just hard to get used to the knob. the RPM thing works pretty well. i think its kinda useless but it is kinda cool. This unit is very customizable! looks amazing! and 3 5volt pre amp outputs.. havnt taken advantage of those yet but you know i will! also i forgot to mention this unit sounds as good as it looks.. replace your stock head unit with this and you will be amazed at how well your stock speakers sound.

Great head unit. I also bought the sirius direct connect and ipod controller. The sirius works great but the ipod is slow to scroll with the multifunction button. If you unplug the ipod go to whoever you want to listen to, press play and then plug it back in it works and sounds great! The only other issue I have about this is that I drive a convertible and you cannot see the screen at all if the sun is directly on it. Other than the screen issue its an amazing head unit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had my head unit in for 2 wks now. I bought it to replace my factory one that crapped out on me. I did alot of research on head units myself, asked some advice from friends, and in the end, the Pioneer DEH-P7800MP was the choice I made. And am I glad I did. I never knew how many options 1 head unit could have!!! This unit is simply amazing. I like the remote control as well, I hardly ever use the knob. I downloaded pictures into the slideshow area and it blew my boys away, they loved it. The sound quality is just as impressive. Very clear, powerful sound. I cannot say enough GOOD things about this Head Unit other than if your looking for a great unit at an even greater price, this IS it. You will NOT be dissapointed.
What I liked even more than the Head Unit itself is the fact that CRUTCHFIELD sent me everything to convert my stock HEAD UNIT opening to fit my new HEAD UNIT, for FREE. I like that price!!! It looks factory, sounds great, and is easy on the wallet. WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR!!!
I have already reccomended 3 of my friends to order from CRUTCHFIELD. I will continue ordering all of my stereo supplies thru them, they are the best!

For making it so easy, keep up the good work!

Extremelly Nice Head Unit

Written By Michael, Burlington, Vermont on Wednesday, September 13, 2006

I had this unit for about 2 months and absolutely loved it, I had it pushing a full alpine Type R system and it sounded phenominal. Shortcomings included the dreaded no ATT button on the unit and the odd navigation of the MP3's, however it sounds and looks phenominal. Unfortunetly it was robbed from my car, but I can honestly say I will be buying this unit again.

Nice upgrade

Written By ryannumber9, Livonia, MI on Tuesday, September 12, 2006

A big upgrade from an 6 year old head unit on my gti. I was debating about getting new speakers but this head unit really makes things clearer. The DSP system works wonders. The backgrounds are pretty slick too. Crystal clear screen is also a plus.

The only thing negative about this is that it doesant supoort HD radio.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this deck a few months back after thorough research. I also added the Ipod adapter and Sirius satelitte. The 7800 has excellent specs across the board. Preamps are 5V, the amp is 22 watts RMS and the tuner is 8 dBf. You also get an OEL display, 16 EQ bands and BBE. The only missing feature was HD radio compatibility. I installed everything on my own with no previous experience, in about 6 hours. Ipod and Sirius adapters fit nicely in the glovebox.
Overall everything performs well. The Ipod scroll has some display delay and the Sirius only displays one line of text. The sound quality is very good and the OEL screen is great except in mid morning sun.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had high expectations for this unit based on the reviews here. I would say this is a C+ piece of hardware. Heres my list of pros and cons:
1) Nice display (which is what you pay for here), visible even in daylight.
2) 5V preouts (compensate for noisy preamps in amps)
3) built-in aux-in.
4) the little joystick commander is actually quite nice.
5) the internal crossover is pretty flexible.

1) connectors. the outputs on the back are not hard-plated in gold or nickel; my RCA connectors stripped off some of the metal on the connectors. no excuse for this.

2) eq. although the 16 band graphic eq is better than most, at this price point i would like to have 3 good parametric bands.

3) time delay. There is no explanation of how it works in the manual, and every setting makes all the speakers just sound strange.

4) no way to turn the internal amp off. the chassis is very deep, and theres large heat sinks touching cables in my GTI. Im not using the amp, and id prefer it off to limit the possiblilty of melting things.

5) usability. its not very well thought out.
a) when selecting eq settings, you have to cycle through every one every time. It would be nice to be able to skip ones you never use (i have 2 settings, one for talk and one for music).
b) theres a button that displays or hides a little icon on the display. that is its only function. why not make this useful (like engaging -20db att), or get rid of the button altogether?

As a recording engineer this was the most reasonable, flexible audio deck i could find. i would prefer better SQ and no spaceship movies

Very good radio. Excellent customer service.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the DEH-P7800MP this weekend to replace the factory radio in my Mercury Villager. I chose it for it's ability to display two lines of info, as well as it's two auxiliary jacks.

So far, I'm very pleased with the unit. MP3 CD's show artist and title. I don't like the list browse function, it starts and the top of the list of songs each time you hit "list" instead of at the song you are playing. I also don't like the fact that if you random play an album of MP3's, if you skip the song currently playing it plays the next track on the list instead of a random track. I have the ipod adapter but not yet an ipod, so I can't assess whether it applies to the ipod as well. I'm hoping that the XM add-on will show both artist and title as well as displaying what is on other channels without changing channels. I may stick with my SkyFi2, but the ability to have XM, Ipod, Radio, Aux inputs one and two, all display on the screen without wires and other dash mounted devices is the most valuable feature of this unit.

To Brandon, I too was irritated by the beep with every key press, but Crutchfield customer service showed me how to turn it off, much better now! (Hint, turn AUD1 down to 0).
The screensavers and wallpapers are very nice, but they obscure track information.

I also added the optional steering wheel remote, and I highly recommend it, great to have controls on the steering wheel.
All in all, a very good head unit, with some reservations.

Best head unit ever

Written By mdj180, Philadelphia, PA on Sunday, August 20, 2006

I installed this unit into my chevy truck about 2 months ago. I have a 12" sub running off a bridged amp and 4 4" coax speakers in the stock locations running off the head unit (nothing too fancy). This head unit made my system sound 100% better easily. With programable crossovers for each set of outputs and a 16 band equalizer, this thing can make ANY set of speakers sound like a pro setup. Easy to use, looks great; I can't find a downside to this thing. If you are looking for an audiophile class unit, this one was made with us in mind.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just bought this cd player and I love it already. Im a huge fan of pioneer head units and they have never let me down. I first had the DEH-P6600 but then I soon sold and bought a DEH-P750mp which I loved then I bought a DEH-P7700mp which I was dissapointed in (pioneer droped the pre out voltage from 4V to 2.2V and couldnt add own images) so I put the older one back in my car and used the 7700 in my home stereo. This 7800 has a ton of features and the best sound quaility of all of them that i've owed. Only one dissapointment is the dinging in your speakers when you do an opperation I don;t know if you can turn this off yet but its still an excellent choice. The 3.5 mini jack AUX in is a really nice feature as well as the same old IBUS. I like the lacking of blue or green buttons that pioner liked to plaster all over their units. This is a very clean, few button face which makes it look outstanding. I noticed they put a cooling fan in it so youll never have any problems with your unit. Theres to much to say about this unit if you like pioneer head units or need a really good sounding and looking unit buy this one now!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this for my 1998 acura 2.3 CL. It made a immediate improvement in sound quality and ease of use. i got the ipod adapter for it and it is really easy to use. The control knob works just like the ipod click wheel. the screen is really cool too. My friend has a alpine unit similar to this one, but i like this one a lot more. also, the ipod adapter from pioneer is 50 bucks cheaper and is much easier to use than the alpine one. I would recconmend this unit to anyone and would give it 10 out of 5 stars if i could.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The DEH-P7800 is an excellent stereo and Pioneer included a lot in its engineering. There are maybe just a little too many setup and configuration options to customize its output for you speakers and its graphics and interface for you. You will want to spend some time getting to know all the settings. Downloadable Windows software allows you to relatively easily (the on-line instructions are a little terse) create mp3 or wma CDs with album art for each CD folder. The album art is displayed on the 7800 while each folder is being played. The IR controller is full-featured, but I use my Honda Ridgeline's steering wheel controller (with a PAC SWI-PS interface) more.

Disappointed with the Sirius feature in this stereo

Written By Trish, Texas on Wednesday, August 02, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love the OEL Display on this stereo and the different screen selctions and colors. I am totally unhappy with the Sirius in this stereo. It can only display one line of Text and one source of information. It can either show artist or song name and not both on the same line. The Text size is too small. I even emailed Pioneer to make sure that I had the settings right. They said I was correct. Seems strange the portable units you can buy can give you the information, Channel, song name and artist. For alot less money. My other car has a Kenwood and it can display 3 lines of information from Sirius. Pioneer needs to redesign this option.

Pioneer DEH-P7800MP

I was looking for a stereo that no one in epping had, they all have alpines, dual, sony or some price of crap stereo i never heard of and the pioneer DEH-P7800MP was just what i wanted. I also choose it because of the its iPOD ready + it has a color screen that i could play around with not to mention o can put pics on it and make a slide show. Another reason i went with this was it looked sick with the polk audio subs i have but not only that it sounds amazing... my neighbores hate me cuz i drive around town n they still can hear me!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My Volvo original CD changer in my 93 Volvo 940 was starting to die, so instead of just getting a new changer I thought Id upgrade to a completely new system and get complete iPod integration.

I had been eying the DEH-P7800MP for a while, but its price always kept me from getting it. Once I saw the price drop, I had to get it and am I glad I did. This thinking is freaking awesome so far.

The color OEL screen really looks amazing at any angle and lighting. I love the clean look of the radio as there are a minimal amount of buttons and there are no preset buttons. Not to mention it still has tons and tons of features. I havent even made a dent into them yet.

The rotary knob was very easy to learn how to use and is a very logical way to navigate everything the radio has to do. Its very quick and iPod like. By far my favorite radio navigation system.

The iPod Adaptor (Pioneer CD-IB100II) was easy to connect and works great. There is virtually no lag when selecting it as a source and the sound is excellent. Not to mention it charges my iPod while connected.

The Crutchfield adapters are pretty helpful although at times I did get lost. Some quick calls to the tech support center and I was back on track. Crutchfield has by far the BEST tech support team I have ever had talked to. Wait times are virtually non-existant and ever representative I talked to actually wanted to help me. Each one gave me their name and extension in which I can directly contact them if I wanted to.

All-in-all its an excellent product. The aesthetics (which are very important to me) are excellent and the sound quality to my ear and on stock speakers is pretty go

Full Featured Deck

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been looking to replace my aging and now defunct DEH-P8400MP and the DEH-P7800MP was the obvious choice. The beautiful color OEL display looks great even on sunny July days. The multi-control and lack of preset buttons make the interface a lot cleaner than my 8400. The controls both on the deck itself and on the remote are easy to use. The selling point for me was the main display that can show artist and track information for MP3s simultaneously. The ability to add custom background images is neat, but not worth the hassle for me. XM works as expected, but cannot display artist and song information simultaneously. (Using XMD1000+XMDPiO100)

The RCA preamp outs are detachable from the unit itself so if you don't plan on using external amps, you don't have to have extra unused wires dangling behind the dash. The audio controls are useful and easy to adjust as expected from a high-end deck. The general sound quality is very good. I am no audiophile, but I can tell the difference between this deck and the DEH-P3800MP I was using as a temp deck. (Note: I do not use the internal amp, so the sound quality improvement might be caused by stepping up from 2.2V to 5V on the preamps)

In conclusion, this deck is easy to use, easy to look at, and easy to listen to.

Best Pioneer to Date!!!!

Written By Tim, Corpus Christi, TX on Wednesday, June 14, 2006

Well, I did have the deh-p6800mp but I returned it for this unit. Best decision I ever made, in the car audio field at least!

Lets start with why I returned the 6800, it was just way too bright. Aside from the ring of blue light, it had a skew of other blue buttons that you couldnt dim and was too distracting at night. The 7800 has the ring of light, but doesnt have a whole bunch of others, only three tiny blue dots instead. Its a lot dimmer at night. You can read my review on the 6800 here on crutchfield too.

The features of the 7800: Wow! What a list! The display is incredible, the pictures give it no justice, absolutely beautiful! The screen is also slightly bigger than the 6800. You can adjust not only the background but the background color as well. And you can adjust the text color too to find the perfect combination! As for sound, the thing has a freaking 16 band equalizer, the 6800 has only 7! You can independently adjust the High Pass Filter on both the front and rear speakers seperately. It has a feature called BBE, makes the speakers sound incredible. Dont have a tachometer on your car? Well the check this out, it senses your engines RPMs and you can have it display a digital tachometer on the display! The motorized faceplate works great and even automatically opens when you turn the engine off so you can take the faceplate off. The seven-way rotary commander ROCKS!

Anyways I havent even hardly touched on the features its so incredible. Its un-freaking-real dude! Spend a lil extra dough and grab this! Youll have the best deck out of anyone you know! Forget the other brands, Pioneer is the only way to go with Car Ster

Great Deck..love the 56k color screen

Written By xiong, Eau Claire, WI on Friday, May 05, 2006

I just brought this HU and all i can say is that it rock..
This deck has all the feature that i wanted..ranging from 22 rms, 50wattsx4, and 5 volts preouts. The 56K color screen make me remind my old JVC SHX700. Like the JVC, you can imput your own image into the HU and display them as screensavers or set it as background image. SQ is pretty good..although it can be better(easier to adjust). It has plenty of Power VS my current cda-9855.

The only thing bother me is that Huge Knob which control the whole features of the deck. its kind like the right knob found on the new kenwood the deck.

Moving the knob back and forth during play back, changes the tracks and up/down changes the folder of MP3 files. Push it..goes to a 3 menu where u can make adjustment (function/audio/ENT)

The knob is so flexiable..which mean that you have to be very careful when pushing it..since you can easily forward track or change folder during MP3 play back

This deck is for those who are into High Quality OEL rather then SQ. If you prefer Easy Operation and SQ then choose the DEH-P880PRS
