Pioneer CNDV-1000HD Reviews

Upgrade procedure works, but takes a while
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Updated my AVIC-Z1 with these DVDs. I started the update the evening after I got the shipment then obtained the password from the website. Then don't forget to change the head unit to FM or AM because the Library, CD and DVD are not available and when I was driving for 3 hours I had no tunes whatsoever because I forgot to do this. I drove around for about 90 minutes. The next day, I took another drive and as documented it did take about 3 hours to do this. After it starts and the database is being updated, the second DVD was requested at 53%. Then after the update completes, wait a couple of minutes to reboot, then update the operational software - DO NOT turn off the car during this time! I did it this way because my diesel truck guide says I cannot idle for more than a few minutes, so 3 hours was out of the question. I couldn't do this without the engine running because the truck has a sensor that prevents running down your battery if it finds you are using the radio for a long time (about 10-15 minutes) without the battery being charged by the engine. Rather than risk a power outage, I went for a drive. Add the cost of fuel to the cost of the update... LOL.
Music on my disk library is now updated with the proper names, and I can now find new stores being put up in my neighborhood and best of all, I can now find the addresses of friends and family who had moved to brand new neighborhoods that were not on the prior map version.
Pros: Like the new maps, updated POIs and new Gracenote database. Some new features (I won't be using, but they are there).
Cons: Takes a long time to update so plan a long trip to allow the time for this to happen (and don't forget to change to radio so you have something to listen to while it's happening).
